Upgrade Charges?

We have been with DISH and had the Everything Pkg since about 1999.

We recently moved and took advantage of the free movers offer. We also upgraded from a Hopper 2 to a Hopper 3 and upgraded from a Joey to a Wireless Joey.

I always DREAD calling Dish for anything because I am terrible with accents and have a really bad time understanding what they are saying and I have to say 'please repeat that', etc throughout the conversation. I never get someone whose native language is English.

I lost my $12/month 'Loyal cust Hopper DVR (reg $15)' and when I complained she would only give me $5 off each month for 12 months, then it would be $15.

The installer brought in two remotes, with red, thin plastic 'skins'...like a cheap phone case...and did not say they cost extra.

I have gotten my new bill, which includes:
One-Time Charges
2 'skins' $15.99 each
Leased Receiver $100.00
Leased Receiver $25.00

I was not told about any of these charges ahead of time.

The bill is $362.27 instead of our usual $191.70

Is this what everyone who upgrades has to pay or should I call and complain...and will they remove the charges? I DREAD talking to customer service!!!

I would definitely contact DISH and ask for some relief from these charges. You may or may not see some reduction. However, you also have a responsibility to know the terms of a transaction before you enter into it, so you share some of the blame for being surprised by the charges. JMO

I did ask.

Call and complain. Use this number: 1-888-496-1260
This is the Loyalty Department number, and you will definitely get through to someone in America to help you with this. I try to never deal with the regular front-line CSRs if I can avoid it.

Playing Devil's advocate - Were the charges on the paperwork you signed or given before signing electronically? If they were you could/should have refused the install.
If you can prove you were not given that information at anytime and don't want to pay the amount I would still insist they take it all out unless they can prove you got paperwork describing the charges.

The real question - had you known would you not have upgraded? If you would have it's a moot point.

The $100 fee is pretty normal for a Hopper 3 upgrade.
The $25 is the normal fee for the wireless Joey upgrade.
The 2 skins are completely optional and if you didn't approve then it was the tech getting a fast sale over on you which IMHO is over the line.

The skins, they’ll definitely take those off. The wireless Joeys are not negotiable. 1 time 25.00 fee for each

$16 for skins? Aren't the actual remotes around $20?

Definitly, call Dish and complain about what happened. My tech was honest and upfront with me when he hooked up the Hopper 3, and that I needed new wiring. Good luck. I also dread the customer service agents, and that is why I either do the PM on Facebook or on dish.com chats. Again, Good Luck with your issues

I wasn't given anything to sign...just a phone call from me to a customer service rep saying we were moving and would like to upgrade our equipment.

Thank you very much for the information that the $100 and $25 are standard charges. I just really think that they should have informed me.

I have never had to pay an equipment upgrade fee in the previous 19 years.

I agree 100%. IMHO any and all charges should be laid out and explained clearly before the work begins.

All WiFi Joeys are $25.00 and I have never, ever seen that fee waived. I've also upgraded many customers from a wired Joey to a Wireless Joey and never once, ever had a CSR NOT explain the fee. Sorry if I'm coming across a little Salty, but I just found a charge back for a remote skin I sold in March that the Customer complained about almost 90 days later, accusing me of not telling her there was a cost - which is odd since there's a "form" that plainly shows the price when you sign it on my phone and trust me, I have never, ever NOT gone over the cost - with tax - on any sale. No sale is processed without that form being signed unless the tech forged your signature and then, you'd have a legal case

Sounds like your signature was forged then? You sure you didn't sign electronically on a device he had? If he didn't forge it I am very surprised it was processed at DISH with no signature. If you are ok with the charges and don't care at this point if it was forged and otherwise happy sounds like nothing else needs to happen.

Most installers just say sign here to show that the install is completed. Very few ever read the contract, especially if it was on the installers phone. And I have never had any type of installer read the contract to me before installing.

None have stopped you from reading it either

The contracted techs around here always sing with THIER initials. I could back out anytime then at least.
