AT&T Plans to End Their Satellite DIRECTV & Focus on Streaming

Did anybody notice during the World Series that they made tons of references to AWS (Amazon) and used their stat services extensively? Wonder if there is any connection there...

It's interesting to me that the Mariners have a 60% ownership of Root Sports, with the other 40% owned by Turner Broadcasting. In my market, Fox Sports Midwest and Fox Sports Kansas City are (or were) 100% owned by Fox. Of course, now that Fox was purchased by Disney then subsequently ordered to divest all the FS networks, who knows what will happen.

A few years ago when I learned they had ownership in Root, the light bulb went on for why they
can make a profit with filling only 20K seats.

If team ownership doesn't invest more in the team, then they'll never improve. Think of the Cubs. They were horrible for what, 100 years until finally some new owners went out and bought themselves a team that could play.

Sort of the same with Mariners. For years they were owned by Nintendo which treated the team like
an expense on the annual report. Nintendo sold to local owners a few years ago and the team is
still trying to recover. They have the worst minor league in baseball.

One possible scenario is that next season it will be possible to stream in-market MLB games through the MLB.TV app two ways: by authenticating with a cable TV package that includes the relevant sports network (as has been the case recently) OR by subscribing directly through MLB.TV (the way you're already able to do with out-of-market games). Just depends how those new contracts get negotiated.

I prefer to record games on Root,ESPN,MLB Network,FS1, and Fox. I can skip through commercials and all
the dead ball time. I can cruise through a 3 hour game in about an hour with the sound muted.

I'm not familiar with the MLB.TV App. Will it let me do that ?

My local team the sucky Mariners don't depend on fan revenue to keep the doors open.

They own Root Sports Network and have been milking the cow for years and that will continue.

This is one of the most dispirited fan bases in MLB but the profits keeps rolling in.

It would take divine intervention to pry that away from the Mariners.
Once subscribers drop and drop...the cash flow stops

I would buy that if the MLB didn't just ink another long term broadcast rights contract just a couple weeks ago.

Fox Sports and Major League Baseball Extend Rights Deal Through 2028

Pretty sure that contract is for the national broadcasts and not the FS RSNs. The Fox contract already allows MLB.TV to stream the games to its subscribers, this contract should extend that. The RSN local broadcast contracts are the ones that require the local team blackouts. MLB has told the teams that when those contracts come up they need retain streaming rights to eliminate the blackouts.

Right now the only national broadcasts that are blacked out are the Sunday night games.

Yes you can FF through the between innings and pitching change commercials. I've got it down pretty well as each between innings pause is 2 minutes.

Can I pick and choose what to watch.

You mean pick and choose teams? If you buy the whole package, yes. If you order the single team package, then you'd just choose the team you want to watch and only those games would be authorized.

IMO, one of the BEST features (and most underrated) of MLB.tv is the ability to overlay the radio broadcast while watching a game. I cannot stand to listen to most of our team's video broadcasters. I like the guys on the radio broadcast. You can choose to listen to them instead of the video guys. Or you can listen to an open stadium mic.

I used to do this a lot whenever the Cardinals would play the Dodgers so I could listen to Vin Scully.

That's helpful,thanks

I don't need to have former player explain to me what I just saw. Especially if he's a "homer".

Wait, I just noticed this is in the Dish Network Forum for some reason. Is there a similar thread over in the DirecTV Forum?

Long before that. I watched the last Woodstock, live, streaming, although it lagged a lot. In 1996, Edenfest in Toronto, a 3 day concert, streamed live, also
