Hi guys,

So this is my first post here and I am relatively new to C-Band Satellites and just wanted to share some pics and see if I could get any info on the dish in my yard of the house we recently purchased.

Its an old Winegard guessing at least a 10 footer (haven't actually measured it) in what seems to be pretty decent shape, aside from a bit of rust on the pole and mounts.

Here are some pics:

so I would love to hear if this thing is worth trying to put back into service as the lines are still ran to the house and appear to be in great shape.

Currently I have no cable tv and run all of my TV's off of android set top boxes running kodi/mythtv with a NAS backend and a few SiliconDust network based TV tuners and would ideally love to integrate this into my Kodi environment as well.

But not trying to get ahead of myself I want to see if this is usable as is or possibly up-gradable?

I would appreciate any feedback at all!

Thanks,

Todd

Heavy dish (mount was heavy). I went and picked one up just like it. Sad part about it. The woman I got it from had some one cut the pole and just let it fall over. I asked nicely to leave it like it was on the pole. It got all bent up. I ended up just keeping the mesh and motor off it. Scraped the rest.

Yes worth getting back up in operation. Don't be surprised if you have to replace the wiring. Is worth trying, but I would figure in the cost of running new coax and associated wiring. The actuator may or may not be serviceable, but you can find that out by getting it on a bench using a car battery. But first, I would examine carefully and make sure it is not bound up. There are some threads around here about bring old one's back to life.

Once you get the actuator off, you will know if the dish is stuck in one position or not. If it is, penetrating oil might get it loose. If it is loose to begin with, be sure to secure it to keep it from flopping in the wind while you are getting everything else done up.

Aside from the time of year, should be a fun project.

Wow thanks for the warm welcome and all the replies! Looks like I found the right spot!

Yeah this project probably won't get much time until the spring but I may wind up bringing a battery out and see if actuator is seized up or not. who knows, i may get lucky!

For now it certainly looks like I have ton of research to do!

thanks again for all the replies, I look forward to actually putting this project on track!
