For those thinking 5G will fix the rural broadband gap

Yes it does...assigned frequency bands dont travel through walls very well...thats why they need to be close...i.e.telephone polls with an antenna on roof

If you deploy 5G on 850MHz, like Verizon is planning in my area, that is the same frequencies as the original AMPS cellular service. The new frequencies you refer to, which will offer the best theoretical throughput, do not go through walls well. That doesn't mean 5G won't be on a variety of legacy frequencies as well as 600Mhz spectrum T-Mobile owns and plans to use for 5G (with admittedly slower data rates than the mm-wave spectrum.

That looked so implausible, I looked it up and you are (almost) right! Wikipedia has it as: Southern Pacific Railroad Internal Network Telecommunications.

I thought Sprint's roots were as a landline telephone company in Western Kansas? They have a museum out there. And their corporate headquarters is still here in Kansas (Overland Park).

The Sprint Corporation traces its origins to two companies, the Brown Telephone Company and Southern Pacific Railroad.

And be sure to eat at The Brookville Hotel, which has the BEST fried chicken you'll ever eat in your entire life: Brookville Hotel – Family Style Chicken Dinners

My daughter and I make a pilgrimage out there about once every summer. Awesome old wild west town with an excursion train, Eisenhower's birthplace/library/museum and a bunch of other stuff.

Wife and I did that a couple of years ago, after hearing the same thing. It was pretty good. I think we went to the Eisenhower Library on the same trip.

The whole campus has a very hallowed feeling to it, especially the chapel where the Dwight and Mamie are buried, and their house. But the library has interesting exhibits. It's been under renovation and reopens at the end of July:

These are some photos I took when I was there.

QFT: “Self serving, but probably true”

Yes, clearly a shot at T-Mobile and their longer range, but slower, low frequency bands. Bands that will actually be USABLE outside a neighborhood. MM wave will only be useful in very dense urban areas, assuming they can get fiber to them.

And I loved the comment about “five different unlimited plans, each with their own limits.” HILARIOUS!

Sent from my iPhone using SatelliteGuys App. For now.

Back in 2001 when I was living in Dayton Ohio and getting ready to move to Kansas City, people asked me why on earth would I move here. "Are the streets paved? Do the buffalo roam freely? Why don't you move to LA?" Not joking.

And yet...

You should have told them that "Everything's up to date in Kansas City*."

*Bonus points if they recognize that from the musical, "Oklahoma."
