The OFFICIAL DISH / HBO Thread

HD Net Movies is no longer in free preview - I have top 250 and for the first time since maybe last October I no longer have it on 130.

Also, channel 300 says that is now going to be the home of OnDemand content. I thought they were going to move something bigger to that slot.

Yes, this is the change that Dish was preparing for, way back on June 26, as I pointed out in post number 1275. Apparently, Dish was not quite ready to make the change at that time, so they left HDNet Movies on 300 for a little while longer. If I remember correctly, there are supposed to be links in the Guide that go to the On Demand menu on channels 1, 501, and 300, but I still do not see any of those VOD links on my Wally, and the guide info for channel 300 still shows HDNet Movies programming.

Why oh why do we have to have the same stuff in 3 different places?
I hear you. Ever since this dispute started, I have been ranting about having Netflix in two different places. (And now the two channels (370 and 302) have two different EPG labels. Which is it, Dish: NFLX or NTFLX? Make up your mind!)

By the way, since I posted earlier, my Guide must have gotten an update, since I now see the "Coming Soon - On Demand Channel" listed for channel 300.

In the Detroit metropolitan area, OTA is fast becoming an option for hard core cord cutters. I have about 27 usable channels after I delete the home shopping, religious and children’s channels.
Are you able to receive any Canadian channels? 9 & 32 show original programming not found on the U.S. channels. Also, be aware that WHNE (14) is moving to real channel 3 next year and it may not be as easily received as it is now. WHNE carries Retro TV and GET TV.

I am like most folks over on the Windsor side...lol. My two antennas point in the Southfield direction.

One antenna is slightly offset to pick up WADL over in St Clair Shores. I get all the majors and their subchannels in the Detroit metro area. WHNE's signal for me is "iffy" so I usually don't bother with it. Dish has GetTV anyway. With them going to RF3 in the repack, if I get the signal it will be interesting to see what happens when I run my vacuum cleaner :) Low VHF and vacuums never mixed well.

There isn't much that regularly interests me from CICO or CBET right now. I will probably aim there during the 2020 Olympics.

I also aim at Toledo for WTVG and WNWO. WTVG has a Weather Nation subchannel that comes in handy.

CBS News: CBS is blacked out on DirecTV and other AT&T systems – how to watch CBS News.

Yes, and Fox is about to be blacked out on Dish, plus CBS is already blacked out on Dish in some major markets like Phoenix (due to the Meredith dispute) so what's your point? If all of these disputes continue, it looks like neither satellite provider will be a good choice to watch the local NFL team on Sunday in most major markets across the country.

No point really.

I suppose one could say more players are getting into blocking. If continued, this could accelerate cord cutting. It's not looking so good for providers.

Yes, Meredith is blacked out on Dish, Nexstar is blacked on on Direct. The FSN stations may be next, then add to that Fox Networks like NatGeo on Dish. No wonder so many people are jumping ship to go elsewhere.

A slight correction to that is that the NatGeo group of channels is actually owned by Disney now. They are likely facing a possible blackout at the same time as the FSN channels due to them being lumped into the same contract the last time the FSN, FX, and NatGeo channels were removed from Dish, when they were all still owned by Fox.

Hadn't heard about the possible Fox black-out on Dish...when did that begin to be a possibility?
Dish started preparing for this on July 17. Here is the uplink report:
Uplink Activity Updates » Blog Archive » 7/17/19 at 3:16pm ET (v20) – 119 changes seen
Dish removed the OTA guide map-down from the satellite-delivered versions of a bunch of Fox-owned TV stations, and added separate OTA guide data streams for those channels instead. This is a move that Dish typically makes ahead of a pending dispute, in case the satellite-delivered locals get removed, so that OTA viewers still have guide data on their Dish receivers.

I finally got tired of dealing with the wrong guide info on the OTA guide on the vip211k. Now, for all of my OTA guide, I use a Amazon ReCast which gives me a 2 week correct guide for OTA and the 500GB HDD to record OTA. Here there wasn't a guide anyway for KPTV-FOX or KPDX-MYTV, both owned by Meredith.
