2019-20 NCAA Football Thread

For the time being ...
I would continue to go about getting ready for the games until they can't ...
Thats what the Big Ten should have done.

I'm really pissed at the Big Ten, they cancelled OOC games so they had flexibility in thier schedule, then less than a week later they disregard that flexibility and call it a day.

This is where its just WRONG when the Presidents just do what they want with no regard to those playing.
Premature probably, but I don’t see a scenario where they don’t all make the same decision based on liability.

ACC doctors came out today and said there No Reason not to play and they would be able to stay safe doing so ...
Well if the donors said it.

They have no financial stake in it at all.
Just saying.

Edit: I read donors. Not doctors.

I still think the same with the words interchanged.
College football and the schools stand to lose a ton of they don’t play.
They do also if they do play and a kid dies.

You do realize that the cartels that run college football absolutely love money, right? So when one of the cartels says, 'we pass on making lots and lots and lots of money' that should mean something to you. It should imply that there is a risk to making that much money, a risk so significant, they said 'pass'. This isn't politics, this is economics with maybe a dash of moral reasoning.

I guess conference championships will be the ultimate goal for those that might play. No need for playoffs now. That would be pointless without all the power 5s involved.
Just rename the SEC Championship to the SEC National Championship game. ;)

Or just pit the SEC & ACC Champions against each other, since that's what the College Playoff Championship Game has turned into. :D

Just wondering ...
Will Big Ten teams Step out from the Big Ten to play this year (it would have to happen fast) .
Bilsby from the Big 12 mentioned that they would be willing to listen if they wanted too ... Nebraska is soon to be scheduling Oklahoma again anyways ...
This would be just for this year ... Unless the Big Ten Commish decided otherwise, but knowing that Ohio State is a huge draw for the Big Ten, I doubt that would happen ...

I have heard that Ohio State and Nebraska are definitely interested (they wouldn't have to join the other conferences.)
Iowa was also mentioned ....
Add maybe Penn State and TTUN ...

If these teams don't play ...
Will Players be allowed to transfer to schools that are playing ?
The NCAA had better not try to stop them now, they haven't stopped anyone yet.

Hmmmm,
Alabama could use an experienced QB ....
Justin Fields would fit the bill ...
LSU would also be a place that should be interested in Fields (if players are opened up and the Big Ten Teams are not allowed to play).

Here is why the Big Ten canceled football ...
The people in charge heard about this as a potential and panicked ...
They didn't wait and read the fact that the DRs have known about this all along and have already been checking for it every year.

Big 10 commissioner slammed Nebraska for even bringing up the possibility. He said if they did play they would be out of the Big 10 for good.
What are the rules to expel a team? Hard to see them getting enough schools on board to boot them. And do Big Ten rules even allow them to prevent teams from playing non-conference games?

I think the Big Ten is just scared that enough conferences and teams will be playing this fall, that no one will care about (or watch) teams playing in the Spring, and that the playoffs will go on without them.

Looks like the Big 12, SEC, and ACC are still set to play.

Nebraska could always ask it's former brethren about playing their teams, as the Big 12 teams are doing a 9+1, the cornhuskers could be that +1 for several of their teams.

I'm curious how keeping games in conference addresses any potential threat regarding Covid-19. Oh... it's okay for a team in North Carolina to fly into Florida... they are in the same conference.

Is there evidence that this notably impacted their decision?

Nebraska will not play football in the Fall. Submits to Big 10 Commissioner.

For now ...

I'm thinking that its not Done yet for any of the teams.

They say Spring, but Day says they need to start as soon as they can after the 1st of the year ... thats the end of Winter (which is the worst weather of all the months, Feb is usually brutal).
He's talked that they could then get in an 8 or 10 game schedule and still have time for the NFL people to evaluate and be done before the draft.

I think Brohm has a plan as well thats suppose to be looked at along with Day's today.

I doubt that would happen if they did go outside for the year ....
If Ohio State went outside, I'm sure hes not going to say, oh well Buckeyes, your not allowed to come back, so he can't just toss Nebraska out.
I also think that type of thing has to be voted on.

I wondered about how that made any difference too ...
If I can get on a plane and be safe for 1 hr, why not 2 ?
Ohio State vs Oregon was scheduled for week 2, before they shortened thier schedule to Conference only ... which was to give the schedule flexibility, yet they went and cancelled instead of using the built in flexibility.

I'm wondering if they can go back and change their mind and play if they see in a few weeks that it would have been better than they thought ?
I'm sure they would look like a$$es, but the players and Coaches and Parents all want them to play.

Umm... things aren't changing that much in three weeks. We might get back to that slowly growing plateau, in many areas in three weeks, but it'll take longer than that for Florida and Texas and Georgia, which are kind of big deal states for college football.

I'm pretty certain the word "all" in there is exaggerated. And college football means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Yeah... ain't that great! It's like they don't learn.
Then again, the football programs are actually doing quite well in most cases ...
Ohio State and TTUN both are reporting well under 5% positive tests.

Your not going to have Zero, its just not going to happen.

Also, remember, just because you test positive doesn't mean your dying or even sick ...
Many people have had symptoms and had no real issues.

1) 5% for a football team is close the doors time. That is wickedly high! The 5% threshold mentioned elsewhere is about the amount of testing in an area for a given population.

2) Do we know what they are testing at?
article said:
In regards to the number of positive cases, Ohio State's announcement said the school is "not sharing cumulative COVID-19 information publicly as it could lead to the identification of specific individuals and compromise their medical privacy."
That is a month old and could be out of date.

Your not going to have Zero, its just not going to happen.
The EPL finished up their season mercifully and Liverpool won the title. The EPL ran 14 rounds of tests. The first week had 8 positives. The third week 4. The last 11 weeks, 8 positives total, or 0.04% positive (roughly 125 times less than 5%).

So that is what is possible, IF the nation involved is taking the Covid-19 issue seriously (at the moment). The EPL was able to do it. Here is the difference.

Since the EPL restarted on June 17:
UK - 41,000 news cases (621 cases per million people)

The State of Texas - 400,000 new cases (13,793 cases per million)

It worked in the EPL because the cases in the nation weren't as bad.

And that leads us to the next issue. The NHL, isolated. NBA... except for getting wings at a strip club, isolated. These are college students... some that are actually trying to graduate college. They aren't isolated.
