We have been asked to test a new interface for Xenforo called ACE. Its supposed to be the next generation of UI's which to me mocks Facebook by adding a feed of posts. Like Facebook you can subscribe to the forums you want to see, and don't see the forums you don't.

There is a lot to it. And it may be a few weeks before I actually finish setting it up. With that said if we do try it the old styles will still be here for those who don't like it. :)

Here is a look at ACE.

They sent me the software, but did not really give me any instructions on how to set it up and use it, so I will be working on it when I can.

Let me know what you think.

BTW the Brief outage we had was due to me installing this...

Will this interface be an option for users or a replacement for the current one? I won't use Facebook but have seen my wife using it and she says she hates the new interface they 'upgraded' to. If it is ANYTHING like the Facebook experience I want nothing to do with it. :(

Well it is different for sure. Willing to give it a go. Hard to judge from a video. Better judged hands on, if one likes it or not.

That didn't last long as I uninstalled it as it was causing issues with MySQL and our search (We use ElasticSearch) which is why we were down for a few minutes.

I believe it was trying to make its own index and to do that was using all the resources available to it, which is not a good thing. :) I submitted a ticket.

Right now it won't be anything as I removed it. :D But when we do move to it, people will have the option to switch back.

Thanks Scott (and KE4EST)! I'm a creature of habit - don't like change! :rolleyes
I don't like change either, but we need to keep up with the times, as we are graded on things like that and being behind harms our ad revenue (greatly) and order to keep the site running we need to pay the bills.

The experts feel this will be the next thing we are graded on and the move to an AJAX based interface will greatly boost our load times thus rate us higher with the ad crawlers who judge us.

It's a real catch 22.

In going through the error logs, it appears there is a conflict between it and one of lesser used addons. So I may try later to turn it on again with the other add on disabled.

I must say I am using the new UI (without the FEEDS feature) and this thing is zippy! I am going to work on it a bit then may put it online for members to test out as well. :)

Never been one for 'keeping up with the pack' but it's your site so you must do as you see fit. As long as it is optional you will still see me here. ;) :D

No silly it makes them faster. :D

BTW here is a site that is running it now. So you can see how it works in the real world. I am still not sold on it yet through.

That is generally fast(er) I would agree though sometimes it is not faster and I see no difference in speed of loading.

Well, I checked out. Not sure what all the hoo-ha is about this interface from the 'experts'. IMHO the site interface you currently have is much better. Just sayin'... :rolleyes

I hate the Facebook look. In fact the only reason I'm on Facebook is because some businesses use it as their sole internet presence. I remember when using free hosting for your business was gauche. Now everybody's doing it.
