DIRECTV unlikely to keep NFL Sunday Ticket

I too am expecting it to be tied to the App, not hardware.

I just went to talk to my friends that run the High end TV store ... asked about why my TV wouldn't get Apple tv ...
We tried on thier TV's and it showed up each time.
He said it much have something to do with the version of Google OS on my TV ... (It is up to date, most recent for my set).
They said that the update IF thats what it is, would come from Apple.
I would have also guessed its the version of software your set is running. Even if it is the most recent version for your set, it may not be the most recent version that the apple tv app is compatible with. That is often an issue that built in tv streaming software runs into in a few years time.

How much does APPLETV+ cost ? (thinking about $175-200 ?)
Then add the cost of the MLB package and what do we have.
Apple+ is a drop in the bucket. How much ST costs as a standalone, that'd be the question, if Apple does take it.

Personally, I hope that the NFL keeps that streaming service for $10 or so a month, for full replays (commercial free, so about 1:45 long) almost immediately after the game is completed (and just the plays replay by later evening).

I'm glad $200 bucks a TV is a drop in the bucket to you .

This Apple device only covers the TV its set up on, right ?

IF Apple does get it and the Apple Tv hardware is required vs thier app, and the device is $200, I would bet that the Stand alone ST will cost $200+ for starters, and of course go up each year.

So Apple's ST will cost me at least $600 the first year .... way more than I pay for the ST.
Then you have to wonder if apple will get even greedier and require you to have an apple subscription before you can get the ST.

Again, you do not need a Apple device, a Roku is fine, the newest Roku stick from Amazon is $39 and the Ultra is $69.

Most apps that come with a TV get flakey after a couple years because you cannot update a TV with new chips, memory, video card, etc.

It is the same issue with boxes from DirecTV, Dish, etc, they get slower, some cannot pick up certain channels, etc, hence why they get replaced by newer models or a add on unit, the Snap for the Hopper for example.

I have an Amazon Fire Stick. Price normally $35. Price on “Prime Day” ZERO $$. Just download the Apple app from there. No issues.

It is not “greed”, but just common business sense. ST MUST be tied to something. Apple (IF the stories are true) is, like DirecTV before it, paying WAY MORE than it can possibly take in. ST only works as a “loss leader” with the ability to buy it tied to first buying something else.

The issue is Apple TV + is $5. Its worth $5, but $5 is not near what DirecTV was getting from ST customers that also bought their complete linear TV access from them.

My guess? Apple TV + and a substantial price increase in ST. With no “customer retention” BS. Probably get a year free or at half price if you buy a new phone.

And if it was contingent on you owning an F-15, you'd be out millions more!

While true, you had to get a TV Package from DirecTV to get NFLST, but even with that, DirecTV was losing a reported $600-800 million a year on ST even with customers buying a TV package, the main reason why is D* has lost about 10 million subscribers, they no longer have enough customers to help cover ( buy TV packages) the high cost of ST.

Also, who has said you have to pay $5 a month for AppleTV to get NFLST, there are many services you can subscribe to via Apple that does not require that monthly charge, MLB Extra Innings for one example, HBOMAX, Paramount+, Disney+, etc, etc.

I do not know how many TVs you have to hook up, but if 3, that is only $120 for the sticks.

Now, the monthly charge for 3 boxes from D* ( 1 DVR, 2 client types) is $14 ( says DVR is included in the price), that is $168 in just one year, most Rokus last about 3-4 years, so even more savings

Where do you get an Apple TV set up for $5 ? (hopefully it doesn't require hardware)

Apple made 34.5 billion last qtr. if the rumored price of 2.5 billion a year is true apple can absolutely keep the price at 5 bucks and it means nothing

The NFL would never accept such a deal
I really don't think apple would just lose money either

That’s the price that’s been confirmed by multiple sources and is inline with that was expected That’s 1 billion more per season then they make now And apple would absolutely lose money short term

Nothing has been confirmed by anybody of consequence

Its all just rumours

Like I said before, a few months ago it was Amazon that had it all wrapped up.

So, just because someone writes and article about Apple possibly getting the ST, doesn't mean its done.

Has Apple came out and announced it, when they do, then we'll have confirmation.

So, the programming sub is $5 ?

I obviously am not an Apple user ....
Thank God Google/Android doesn't do this.
Neither does Apple! You are confusing the physical Apple TV device with Apple TV+ which is a $4.99/month subscription and is available on almost every smart tv and streaming device. I do not own an Apple TV device but I have multiple Rokus and smart TVs. Every single one of them has Apple TV+ available and active and may I add, that at $4.99/month it is one of the great bargains out there in programming. Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, For All Mankind, CODA... I could go on an on.

Bonus: almost all content is in 4K Dolby Vision w/Dolby Atmos sound.

Apple has cash to burn. If they want to burn it on Sunday Ticket, that's their decision to make.

And once again, neither does Apple, as of now you do not need to subscribe to Apple TV to subscribe to other things, if you want MLB Extra Innings, you pay for that to Apple, just like Google, no extra $5.

All you get for that $5 a month is Apple TV Programming.
