I need info on new hopper plus

Nope. They told me at a meeting we had a few weeks ago.
This is even more concerning to me. You reported an HDR issue 2 years ago and they still chose to release a new unit with a faulty chipset that converts absolutely everything to HDR10?????? Either they didn't test this issue or they purposely made a decision to release these units faulty. Either one is unacceptable.

It is what it is. Ranting about it over and over again is not going to do good, everyone is just going to put you put you on ignore and tune you out.

Work smarter not harder. :D

I have to agree with Scott. Dish is not forcing existing customers to get a Hopper+ or Joey4. Nobody has any patience anymore. I believe that eventually the chip set will release a driver that handles HDR content correctly. Like Scott said a lot of Android boxes have the same problem.
Meanwhile I am enjoying my two Hopper3 and Joey3 receivers. They are working well.

I think Dish is going to find many people will be unhooking their Hopper Plus in the beginning due to the HDR fiasco. Their may be a few that don't care how their pictures look but I have a feeling Dish is going to inundated with calls once these hit en masse.
Have you tried to change your picture settings on the input you use to compensate for some of the dark images? I know when I got my first HDR tv a few years back I had to change all the settings and I had to adjust to the picture. It was either too dark or too light and garish colors. I eventually adjusted all my controls and I got used to it.

But I am sure that DISH will figure a way to give you either options for Natural HDR setting where only the latest HD and 4k will show it / then a HDR where it upconverts everything to HDR even on Sd channels/ and one where you could turn it off entirely in a menu. But it won't be over night. I was with DISH for 25 years and there was always software bugs and glitches and I learned to accept them until they are eventually fixed in a software udpate.

I have had the issue for almost 2 years now. The HDR issue was one of the first bugs (if not the first) that I reported. Again its know and I am told a fix is coming.

PS honestly it is an issue with the Chipset. Remember DISH does not write the drivers for the chipsets.
So when they come up with the correct drivers for this chip set, it will be fixed by a software update or will they have to replace all these Hopper Plus units ?

I am told software will fix it (updated driver)

BTW I should note on my TV's while HDR is always on, the colors are not blown out or dark. In fact the picture seems fine, the only way I know HDR is on is because the TV info banner says its on. Its not like the Hopper 3 where you tune to one of the 4K HDR channels and everything becomes super dark including the guide and menus. I should also note my TV's (Sony X90J and TCL Series 6) do not do HDR-10.

With all due respect I know exactly what is going on. I am one of those video/audio geeks. I strive for a perfect picture/sound experience. With a constant HDR signal being sent it is taking away the ability to use a day and night calibration I have setup for SD and HD viewing. I have some pretty expensive software and equipment that is used for this purpose. This is what I should be seeing on my picture menu of the TV when no real HDR signal is being sent...

When the TVs are being sent either a true HDR signal or an upconverted signal those options are replaced with a series of Factory preset HDR settings.

There isn't a way to calibrate a non HDR upscaled signal correctly. What you may think looks good after basic tweeking is no where near what your picture could look like if done correctly with a proper 20 point grey scale calibration and Gamma calibration.

Scott Greczkowski can both the Hopper and Hopper+ HDMI output cables be plugged in at the same time to two different TV HDMI inputs? If so, I plan on pugging in the HOPPER+ USB cable into the Hopper’s front USB port. This would make it a little easier and faster if I decide to switch watching TV from the Hopper+ to the Hopper or vice versa. I would just unplug the Hopper+ front USB cable, change the TV’s HDMI selection to the Hopper input, and then go thru the 20 minute reboot. Also, will the Joeys be required to be re-booted too after switching from the Hopper+ to the Hopper and vice versa?

I am confused by your comment that the Sony X90J does not do HDR-10.

According to Sony’s specifications the Sony X90J is capable of using HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision.

So I assume you are saying that your Sony X90J does not falsely adjust the color of non-HDR broadcasts despite the fact that HDR10 is being delivered by the Hopper+?

If this is the case it would appear that the implementation of HDR is very dependent on the TV model.

Ahh neat. Well the banner only shows HDR not HDR-10 as I have seen on other TV's.

No.
Once the Hopper Plus is hooked up it is meant to remain hooked up. This is why there is a 20 minute reset period to try keeping people from doing it.

This is why if you use MultiView I do not recommend a Hopper Plus.

Well, I've just been on the sidelines watching this unfold. But first time I've heard that Dish purposefully built in a Day Zero barrier to keep people from switching back for 20 minutes???????????

Hummmm.. Somehow, and I don't know how, I'm not as trusting as much.

I understand the Hopper+ is meant to remain hooked up. What in the setup that I posted that will not work?

You posted...
"Will everything function OK if both Hopper 3 HDMI cable and Hopper Plus HDMI cable attached to TV by two different TV HDMI inputs? And without having to disconnect anything or rebooting?"

No. the Hopper 3 HDMI cable goes into the Hopper Plus, then HDMI comes out of the Hopper Plus to the TV.
