Hey guys,

Movin' back to D*. Install is this Sat. Here's what I'm getting

1) HR20
1) H20
1)???? standard rcvr.

As far as the install goes is there anything I need to make sure the installer knows/hooks up? I'd like to be prepared for future channels. Should he hook up a 3lnb or 5lnb system. If I asked for 5 would he install it???:hungry:

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA.

All systems come with a 5lnb now (or they should) but make sure he gets the monopoles on, or that the dish is nice and tight. Other then that just make sure there are 2 lines run to the DVRs and that if you need a multiswitch (which it looks like you wont) you get the one that is compatiable with the 5lnb. Other then that, enjoy Directv we are in for a wild ride as far as HD channels go this year.

Just a quick correction here...all HD systems should come with the 5lnb dish.

SD installs still get the triple sat.

Let us know how it goes..

as i stated in another thread, i just upgraded to mpeg4 thursday and the installer did a yeoman's job. its the cleanest install anybody has done....cable or satellite. he was at my house about 3 hours. took his time, made sure everything was tightly secured.......basically, my instruction from the landlord was put the dish in the best place, with the least amount of damage. i got the installer's id and told d* to make sure his superiors told him what a great job he did!!

If you don't have it, ask him to run an extra coax to your HD receivers just in case you ever need to use an over the air antenna. He'll chage you for it but better to have it just in case then need to do it again later.

Yup. 2 Hd revievers, HR20 &H20. 1 standard rcvr. So....I should be getting a 5lnb install correct??? Also, what type of dish should he install?

just depends on whats in stock, I have seen the AT9 still going up around me (ALOT lately everyone bought a new HDTV and those Directv ads dont hurt either) or you could get the slimline, either way there isnt a big difference, I prefer the AT9.

ICETURKEY,
I know you ment well but swallow this. Some HSP(Home Service Providers) backcharge techs if the customer calls Directv for any reason. They can rape your puppy or do a great install but if you call there is a backcharge in the the tech's future with some companies.

Ya, I know,

Joe

i don't care if things are screwy. it seems to me if an installer/tech is honest with me, then he certainly is well aware of any repercussions and is willing to take his lumps.

i'm sure if i didn't have digital phone service, my phone lines would be hooked up. beside, i'm hearing impaired, which requires me to use special telephones. i would prefer any installer/tech to keep their grubby paws off my (2) phones, valued at $500 each. i had one guy nearly ruin one of my phones, about 18 months ago!!

remember too, i'm in central florida where a group of directv installers went to the local CBS affiliate last year and blew the whistle on D*s practices.

are you asking me stuart? it went very well!! the installer knew what he was doing and was also very customer oriented.....that's a first for either dish or cable!

i was concerned for five days leading to the install too.
