For c-band what would you buy? WAF demands that I keep it under six foot, should I go for an offset dish or a prime focus? I see Sadoun has a 1.8 Fortec prime focus that is UPS shippable, and the polar mount fits on my 3" pipe I already have. I am not going to motorize it, I would like to put a hand screw jack on it for now.
Ideas?

I have the Fortec dish that sadoun carries. Really cheap to send (35 bucks to Minnesota) because its in 6 pieces. I have one fixed at G4/G16 and one that I ghetto move :)

I think a 6 foot offset would be a pain to ship because it would be one piece (I assume). I dont know how you would set up the Fortec dish for motorizing but I assume you could set something up. The pieces are put together and when face down looks like a dome :) Put the "O" ring on it and bolt to the frame and voila, done.

well if you are wanting solid dish then the one mentioned above is a good shot .
if you really want my opinion then locating a smal mesh (your going to do just c band on this right) even up to 7 1/2 ft would be good and you can mount it low to the ground for WAF this will keep it out of most peoples view. i will be off the next week i will see if i can locate a smaller mesh dish. plenty around here... :)
i'm cheap and always like stuff as cheap as possible :) will you be able to cajole her if its free and you saved X amount of $$$

If you can't go larger than 6ft, here it is:

1. Offset:
Advantage: more gain than prime focus.
Disadvantage: shipping cost, heavier, hard to find off-set scalar ring, hard to find mount to motorize.

2. Prime focus:
Advantage: cheaper shipping cost, lighter, easy to find mount if you want to make it motorized (either with h2h or actuator)
Disadvantage: Less gain than Offset

I suggest you to consider to motorize it. Save you time to move it around from one sat to the others. Not hard to set it up tracking the arc.

I would choose a Prime Focus dish any day over an Off-Set dish. But that's just me? Like I would choose a Standard Linear LNBF over a Universal Linear LNBF, it fits me better. But I would choose an LNB over an LNBF any day also, if I can make it applicable?

Why not get the Geosatpro 2.4m instead. Much improved over a 6' for signal and quality of it was very good from what I viewed of it. This is if you can get it past the WAF

Wife is adamant about the larger dish. NO larger dishes. She really doesn't like the idea of the six footer, but she is gonna let it pass....I think....:) She's been so cool with the P* dishes I hate to rock the boat.

And also no matter when I do this money will be a huge factor. Yeah I know I can get a 10 footer for free but she just won't go for it. I tried the free angle it got me nowhere. So the Fortec is the upper limit of what I am going to be able to spend. I want to get the polar mount so I can motorize later if I want to, but right now I want it for just a few feeds so a couple satellites hand cranked would be just fine.

But y'all helped immensely...Fortec dish it is. :D

Thanks! :up

C or Ku...hummm...I'd rather have both....if I have both I might be able to put it where my 1m P* is now. If I add another dish I am going to have to go dig the pole up from my Mom's yard...4" galvanized pole concreted in the ground by my Dad 20 years ago that our 10 foot fiberglass dish was on...:( (that dish I still have in 4 petals but cannot use because of WAF :()

I found one place with a 5' mesh online and it was 400 bucks...before shipping..so that was out. I'd actually rather have a mesh dish but I haven't found any that small in the field around here, and new ones are too much $$$$$.

The WAF comes from the fact that she had a 10 footer in her yard as a kid, as did I, she said it was ugly, hard to cut around, ugly, and ugly. Which I don't see why that matters now because its going to be in the back of our house with the two P*'s I have already, but she nicely says no, and when that little Redneck says no, it means NO. :D

Just a thought... Let the wife get something she want's in return you get a 10 foot dish. Tell her it won't cost anything push the saving money issue. Good Luck :)

Won't work. I already tried. :D

I have the rare woman who is frugal to a fault. She HATES to spend money on ANYTHING. AND she is an accountant by trade so you cannot get ANYTHING money-wise by her.

Thanks for the tips though. :)

well give me a couple of days before you lock in , i've got one close by and its mesh in the 5 or 6 ft range. keep looking and making plans. if i can get this small one, i can take a couple of pictures and let you see the size of the dish so she can decide. if its mounted low to the ground it would be easy to hide / camoflague

i can place it beside my 10 fter to show the size difference. or place it under my 7 1/2 fter ( its mounted 10 ft up in the air so i can mow under it, its where the 10 fter used to be mounted.)

I thought that there was going to be a big difference visually between my 10 ft and 12 but in reality not really. When you add a foot it's only 6 inches on each side not that much overall. Someday I'll get a 15 or 20 footer. Then I'll be seeing a difference:)

Thanks. I had to do quite a bit of ground work to get her to go for the 6 footer. And like I said, her family used to have a 10 footer, so she knows about what size it is....and she's decided. Six foot max. Free or otherwise. I asked if I could get an 8 footer free? NO.:D:confused::( Plus I want to be able to handle the dish by myself or with a bare minimum one other person (my wife ;))

So, now I have to figure out how I am gonna come up with the scratch for the Fortec. AND the LNB... :)

I feel bad for you Guys who have these issues with the Wife. Mine does not bat an eye when I drag dishes to the back yard to play with. Her Father even gave me the 10 footer.

I cannot complain too much, she earns the money and I get to stay home, take care of the house, cut the grass, play with the dog....so I try to keep her happy!
