Perhaps a $10 savings off my Dish bill, but that $10 will end up going to Netflix or Redbox, so no real savings. I was a big fan of the Blockbuster@Home package a year ago, and it will be missed.

Blockbuster RIP This is too bad. Adding the Blockbuster service to the old Platinum package was a great deal at the time, but both services have diminished in the past six months. On the disc side, I'm only averaging about two movies per month, and half the time they're ones on the bottom...

I don't think they're actually showing any HD yet. There's an ongoing thread about this over on the AVS forum. Why they aren't showing any HD remains a mystery. It appears they're taking some HD masters, downconverting them to SD, and then upconverting to HD resolution. The station does look...

I hope not either. Adding another SD movie channel is no substitute for dropping HD discs by mail.

For me, the disc-by-mail and extra channel part of the program is where the value is. There aren't any stores near my location any more, and I haven't found much use for the download service; selection is limited and quality ranges from kinda-OK to unwatchable. If they were to pull the plug...

Over the past month, it looks like some of the new titles are not available for rent. This includes Brave, ParaNorman, and The Dark Knight Rises. Has Dish/Blockbuster negotiated new terms with the studios to delay new release titles, putting them in line with Netflix and RedBox? If so, why...

I recorded Dracula Has Risen From the Grave yesterday. According to IMDB, it was shot in 1.85:1 aspect ratio, which is how it looked on TCM HD, with very thin black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. It was not shown in HD, however. There was little detail to the picture, and clearly...

Plenty of the movies shown on TCM have been shown in HD on other stations, or are available on Blu-ray. Just sticking with the earlier post I quoted, they'll be showing Frankenstein, The Wolfman, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, all of which have been released on BD.

It's just too bad that none of those classics (or any of their other movies) are actually HD on TMC HD.

Update: This just happened again tonight. I'd rather not specify the channel, since I don't want to take the chance of this turning into a political debate. Let's just say it's one of the national news/commentary channels. This time, I happened to be watching on delay. Usually I'll skip...

That's what I would have expected, but there was nothing there. That's why I had guessed it may have been stored to the hard drive and then inserted into the stream later.

FWIW, I don't subscribe to locals through Dish.
