I think L446 Broke my OTA Audio

Still hoping for a quick software fix

Just a note for those who post that their audio has returned. My experience with loss of OTA audio since the update is that it's inconsistent. Sometimes I get audio on all OTA, sometimes on none, sometimes on non-HD only. My experience is that it's Flakey.

If anyone hears news from Dish please post an update here.

I assume this is on their radar by now. I've reported it to a senior tech who forwarded it along with a link to this thread to Dish engineering. I've also complained to support via email.

A replacement 722 is on the way but I'd like to avoid hooking it up since I'd have to customize my settings all over again.

I agree, even though they have sent me a replacement 722, I hope they get this problem fixed via software prior to its arrival in 3-5 biz days.

My 722 updated to L446 early yesterday and the OTA recordings made last night have no audio. I tested live view OTA vs short recordings on 4 different stations, and in each case had audio in live view and mute on the recording.

This morning I tried doing a FPR followed by a re-scan of locals and the audio is back on test recordings I've made since.:D
Keeping my fingers crossed, but added duplicate timers for tonight's programs on the sat SD LILs just in case.

no audio on OTA stations...doing a rescan tonight...hopefully they get this figured out as I would hate to hear my wife for EVERY show that doesnt record :)

I recorded Smallville on the OTA CW last night...I was wondering why it had no audio...must be something w/ the optical and 5.1 because some of the commercials came through...just not the show. My receiver was showing only one channel of input...

I have done the FPR and rescanned.
Last night I regained audio on Fox for the world series. The night before the audio was present when watching live but lost when recording. For game 2 it worked live or recorded.
Today I still do not have audio on NBC or its substation weather.

I trust that Dish is going to deal with this and will be patient. I can double up my timers to record on the SD provided by dish while they sort out the OTA audio problems. As long as I know they are working on it I can be more patient.

I emailed a contact in the software engineering dept about this. They are well aware and I was told they are working to fix it as soon as possible.

half of ota channels lost audio and resets not helping.
slow guide operation at times, reboot helps.
slow guide problem sometimes happens after remote popup.
NO FOOTBALL THIS WEEKEND!!!!

GO BACK TO L445!!!!

OTA Problems on 722 Receiver

I just upgraded a few days ago from the 622 to the 722 and discovered that my OTA sound is gone. Never had a problem with my 622 and it just happens to go out with the new 722? Hmm. I thought it was working for the first couple of days, but last night my ABC affiliate's 11 o'clock news had sound coming through in Spanish. Today I can't get any sound on that channel at all. NBC OTA sound comes and goes.

Talked to Dish and they are telling me that it must be my antenna, but the signal strength shows 98 to 100 and the picture quality is fine -- no fading out. I've tried deleting the locals, rebooting the receiver and re-scanning, but same problems keep happening.

I'll call dish and ask them to create a report as suggested, but any other thoughts to get the sound to come back???

Thanks

Welcome. This whole thread is about the L446 software problem. You might want to read through it!!!

I have a 622 which has also lost audio on one OTA channel. I have several other digital tuners that receive all OTA channels from the same antenna with no problem. This problem showed up on the 622 after receiving L446. Signal strength is not a problem. Clearly appears related to L446.

I have a 622 and 722, software updated Wednesday night, heard it and saw it. I still have to hook up the OTA to the 722, but my OTA on the 622 has been fine, audio through optical, component to my Yamaha 861 to upconvert SD. The one issue I noticed last night was after I finished watching Bionic Woman and switched to live TV at 9:05PM there was an error advising me to check switch, I cancelled out, and my wife's Grey's Anatomy is in 2 parts. At least it recorded, sound and all OTA. I am watching Smallville right now and will see if I get a check switch when I finish and Ghost Whisperer will be on the OTA tuner.

I am getting tired of the constant software updates messing with the 622, it is 18 months old and I don't think it can handle much more.

I also have the audio problem.

I did not notice until today that one channel has no sound. Before reading about the problem here, I contacted the station and they said they no one else is reporting a problem and their on test on receiving OTA signal was without problems. I have tried all the resets I know how to do, but I can not get sound on this OTA channel. I hope they either correct the problem, or go back to the previous software level soon. This is a real problem to me since dish does not have this station in HD.

And I was getting ready to call my CBS station, Survivor Thursday had no audio, had to watch it with closed caption. Loves the QA Dish does on their software. Wonder if DirecTV HD-DVR's have as many quirks. No audio to TV or optical, nothing.

I thought it was just me until I saw this thread! Lost audio on the OTA HD channels and had to pull the plug three different times to get it back again. 622. First thing I thought of was a software revision but wasn't sure what version was previously running to know if there had been an update.

Same here

My 722 also lost audio on a couple OTA channels due to L446. Fortunately they're channels I never watch (coudn't care less about the five SD sub-channels on the local religious station) Still, this type of nonsense should never happen. Apparently Dish doesn't have a software audit group to weed out these problems. If this were an infrequent occurance, no big deal, but problems are created time and time again with firmware upgrades. I'm tired of it, and may just cancel my Dish service and stick with cable. My cable system is getting very aggressive with adding numerous HD channels lately, and the picture quality is better than equivalent HD channels on Dish. True 622/722 is a much better DVR than the one supplied by cable, but the overall service is more trouble free.

Update: Discovered that even those OTA channels with audio while watching live have no audio when recording. Way to screw up perfectly good firmware Dish! I called Dish tech support and gave them my 2 cents worth of rant since creating problems like this with a firmware update is inexcusable.
