Well My take is I love to hate and hate to love my 9000I local. Most of the hate comes from the recording part of the receiver. If it were refined just a bit more Id have zero issues with it. Now if there is a future model that had terrestrial, satellite, better DVR and Netflix, Hulu, Sling, Ect. It would be in every location that had a TV in my home. I dont even care about the 4k part since I dont see 4k becoming a real issue for at least 3-5 more years. (except from streaming, and well call me old fashioned thats what they make the 4k blurays for). Overall I think its a pretty good receiver, but i know Id hate it if it didnt have the local option since I have other receivers that handle satellite only better.

I haven't actually looked to see if there's an app update on their website. It would be nice to have Roku and a couple others. Had a friend show me how it worked in his smart TV, and there's a ton of channels available without a subscription. We look up westerns a couple weeks ago, and it said they were 438 available for viewing. I could live with that.
 
Well the writing is on the wall honestly, tv will be mostly consumed via internet subscribed tv. More and more people are cutting the cord, many of those are purchasing subs to netflix and hulu. Many others are subing to PS Vue, Sling and Directv now. Disney will be launching a web channel that will have an exclusive live action star wars show and CBS has the web only star trek show now. So a box that is in line with what I hoped a Wetek play 2 would have been is probably high in demand. I may get my wetek out and play with it some now that its my slow season but it may end up giving me an ulcer too. Long story short is that the way our setup is now the wife doesnt get the changing HDMI inputs on the tv so the tv stay on which ever input i leave it on during the day. If its on the roku thats what she uses, if its on the linkbox she watches whatever is on the linkbox. And to be honest its pretty handy to have everything in one spot. I have contemplated buying one of the new channel master ota dvr units since it has netflix, sling, ect but no FTA BUT the wife would have her locals and a dvr very much like what we had when we were on the pizza pan dish (means she will be much happier). Bt at the end of the day considering im saving more then 100 bucks a month im personally happy to swap inputs.
 
I've read through this thread 3 times and I don't see a solution to the boot loop problem. Since I can't get a display on the TV I tried reflashing the firmware from the serial port but still have the boot loop problem. Yes, I'm using the ALi editor for the 9000i. I tried calling linkbox for help but no one answers the phone.

Mine has the latest firmware, but it was on it before I purchased it. I'm not convinced that this receiver finds all the channels available. I have a couple others I keep updated in the channel list and they show channels this one doesn't see even with a blind scan. Not quite sure why the LAFF Mux lost signal quality on some channels, and not on the rest. I always maxed out on signal when they were SD.

The ones that are not maxed out, drop in and out pretty often. Grit is the worst. It's almost unwatchable some days, and fine others.

I don't have a problem with those channels, but I have a few, like Grit on SES-1 that scans in, but doesn't have video or audio, but that's not the receiver's fault. I never had a problem with Grit until recently. Not sure what's going on with that. My biggest complaint with the 9000i is missing channels during a re-scan. It's also a bit slow going to the proper port on the diseqc switch when changing channels.

Sometimes I have to switch back and forth between channels to get the one I want. Considering the cost of this receiver, I was a bit disappointed when receivers 1/4 the price outperformed it.

Somehow that doesn't surprise me. :) I'd like to have a 4K receiver, but I don't think it would be a Linkbox, with all things considered. I'm open for suggestions if you have a recommendation. I've seen a few on the internet, but not sure which way to go. I'm staring to see several 4K channels showing up in a scan.

Several NA distributors are running out of stock with the current models at the same time. It appears that the replacement STB for several of the distributors will be based on the Hisilicon chipset, Android OS provided by the same manufacturer. :eeek Was provided a unit with a development kit a few months ago and I will be kind in saying that anyone hoping to distribute a reliable and stable STB based on this SOC has a long and aggravating road ahead of them. As provided, it is :(

Who knows what the NA FTA STB market holds. Kinda up in the air right now.... For now, I am content with the VU+ Zero 4k, purchased out of the UK running the OpenATV release of Enigma2 OS :)

I haven't heard of those. Where can they be purchased and what is the going price on them?
 
Been talked about in several Satguys threads over the past year. We get them out of Europe. Got mine from the UK for approx $175 including 3 day DHL shipping. I chose to run OpenATV OS Enigma 2 release that provides very accurate hardware blindscan and channel logging in about 9 minutes per satellite.

The Enigma OS may be too challenging for casual users, but is great for advanced users,

i believe nasa-UHD is the only free 4k broadcast... pretty sure lyngsat shows no other 4k channels

When I did a rescan the other day, it got one 4K channel on 101W that had audio but no video. I think it scanned in as UHD-1. If memory serves me, there were some encrypted channels that scanned in. I think one of them was called 4K Universe and another scanned in as a fashion channel of some kind.

I can't say for sure what satellite they were on. I deleted them because they were encrypted. No need to clutter the channel guide with channels you can't watch. I was just looking ahead to feel out the market on 4K receivers. I've got a 70 inch 4K TV and it would be nice to have a channel or two to show friends when they visit and show an interest in FTA. I didn't want to get stuck with a lemon that doesn't work right. Thanks for the reply. :clapping

UHD-1 is nasa, along with NASA-UHD

If grit scanned in more than once, just try the other one, justice tv does that on my cheap gtmedia reciever, and did it once on the linkbox

I never had that happen with any of my other receivers. However, the Grit channel on SES-1 no longer works. It scans in just fine, but there a black screen and no audio, and it doesn't come up and say scrambled. A while back Pursuit did the same thing as well as GENX on SES-2 and Cozi on Galaxy 16.

If they still receiver those channels at the other end for their intended customers, they don't need to scramble, what they're doing works just fine. I suppose it could be some weird MPEG format that these receivers won't recognize.

Try grit on 97, next to Laff tv.... justice/buzzr/automotive tv are $17-$21, but are not pay channels, theyre fta despite the dollar sign in the list
