Has anyone ever received a message thru the messages feature on the hopper other than the welcome message years ago ? Not sure why dish would implement this feature to never use it. It could be used for new channel info, free previews etc. . Thanks in advance.

Probably for the same reason they briefly had the ability to order pizza via the STB many years ago. Which didn’t work.

An idea without legs.

What's really annoying is that newer software versions put it right a the front of the list of apps when you hit the Home Button

The original DISH receivers had messaging capability but since they didn't use it they eventually removed it.
Now they have added it back and they currently "still" are not using. so.........are they going to remove again or will they start to actually use it?
I am sure they don't even know.

Directv had the messages feature on some of their receivers too if I am not mistaken. I think I remember a few messages in the past on the legacy receivers.

Directv still does the messages and pretty frequently. When i went to my mothers last week they had messages about epix free preview, boxing ppv and other free previews.

They used it once on my old machine. It said, “Be Sure To Drink Your Ovaltine.”.

Maybe they will use it for advertising.

Isn't it a coincidence that we got a message on our Hopper 3 today with U539 about Google Assistant. ;)

Dish used the message app last night to announce that they had added Google Assistance to the Hopper. It was the first thing I saw when I turned my tv on this morning.
It also announced a new software, U539, updated last night.
