    Dish VIP 722k Bad Capacitors

Having gone through the bad capacitor drill last weekend with multiple 722k receivers, I thought I'd pass this information along in the event that it can help someone else. If you're having problems with your receiver locking up and, like me, own your hardware and prefer to repair it instead of...

Advice Needed - Best Primary Receiver

Thanks guys for all the good feedback. That Sathawk/Openbox does look like a fine unit for the money -- I just worry it would be a little redundant since I already have an AZBox. Was mainly thinking of something for solid/reliable USALS motor control. Seems like some of the folks here and on...

Advice Needed - Best Primary Receiver

Hey guys -- I finally broke down and took the plunge on an AZBox Premium + receiver, thinking that it would be a nice upgrade from the Fortec Dynamic I've been using. Exceptional picture quality, and it's an all around great (swiss army knife) receiver for tuning multiple formats ... but I'm...

Help Needed -- John's "Bring it Back from the Dead" C-Band Project

Thanks guys! :) Will get some better photos of the back side. I was using the BlackBerry that day and my pictures weren't the best. I'm willing to bet that center pole is a little bent as well. It does look like it's sagging down a tad. Will get the string and tape measure out, and make...

Help Needed -- John's "Bring it Back from the Dead" C-Band Project

There are two holes on the frame that you can connect the end of the actuator to, and Dad couldn't quite recall which one he took the old motor came off of. Other than that I think it's ok. Agreed on the button hook holder. I'm told that a tree limb whacked it during one of the hurricanes...

Help Needed -- John's "Bring it Back from the Dead" C-Band Project

It's funny you mention that. Looking at the pole you would swear it was leaning ... but I've checked it out on three sides with a Johnson angle locator and it seems to be ok.

Help Needed -- John's "Bring it Back from the Dead" C-Band Project

That's what I'm saying :up The local BUD guy who came out a while back mounted the scaler ring, turned the feed and went "that looks about right". For some reason I was thinking it needed to be a little more precise. If you plan on making a trip over to Baton Rouge anytime soon, I'd be happy...

Help Needed -- John's "Bring it Back from the Dead" C-Band Project

Well everyone, I'm just about out of ideas about what could possibly be wrong with my old C-Band dish. I've run the gambit without much success. Hopefully someone here can chime in with an idea or suggestion :). Background... Originally installed in the mid 80's, I'm attempting to revive a...

    Commercial DCII Receivers

Thanks TVROPRO -- that would make sense. I guess it's buyer beware if you're looking to pick up one of these commercial units off eBay.

    Commercial DCII Receivers

Hey guys, do you know if the Motorola 4800 and Digitrans boxes have a battery that needs to be periodically replaced ... like the consumer models? I assume they do, but haven't seen anyone mention this ... or what it would take to replace a battery in one of these units. Thanks!

Finally got the FTA dish going... (w/pics)

Hmm... just thought I'd check. I've been working on bringing a 10' back online for a family member but, so far, it appears to be whipping me more than I'm whipping it. I might have to start up a thread in the C-Band forum and see if you guys have any ideas that I might have overlooked.

Finally got the FTA dish going... (w/pics)

Yep ... I suppose it had to happen sooner or later :p Nice to make your aquaint digiblur -- I'm in South Baton Rouge myself. Wouldn't happen to know any good BUD installers in the area would you? :)

Finally got the FTA dish going... (w/pics)

...and learned a lot of lessons along the way :D The first obstacle was to support the weight of the Invacom QPH-031 on a Winegard DS-2076 76cm dish. A big thanks to AcWxRadar for his suggestion to use the "feed arm braces" from a Winegard 1m dish. These are very inexpensive and can be ordered...

    Motor Suggestions?

iafirebuff, I bought the DG-380 along with a 42mm tube and switched out the 55mm that came with it. About a 5-10 minute job. It's a little overkill for my 30" dish, but handles it with ease ... excellent build quality ... and the automatic zero backlash is nice to have IMO.

How Long Have You Had Your BUD?

Here you guys and girls ... straight from the home office in Cedar Rapids, Iowa ... the top 10 signs that you've been in this hobby waaaaay too long. #10 You call your dish a parabolic reflector. #9 Your Videocipher II was made by MA/COM. #8 You used to tune in to Dr. Gene Scott (oh, you still...

    Corotor II Plus Assembly/Install Questions

Thanks for the feedback guys. I did notice that there are two grooves for the gaskets ... one on the feed side and one on the LNB. While it seems a little weird to mate a gasket up against another gasket, I'm definitely getting metal on metal upon tightening things down. Think I'll just leave...

    Corotor II Plus Assembly/Install Questions

Finally got my Corotor II Plus and Norsat LNBs in yesterday. I was noticing that, per the forums here, it really doesn't matter how you orient the LNBs on the feed. Also noticed in the Chaparral instructions that you should take the clear piece of cellophane off the Ku-band LNB waveguide...

    Source for 24" Thomson Saginaw

truckracer those 36" units must not even break a sweat :) I had thought it might have been wise to go with a 36", since they're not much more than what you're already paying for the 24", but was a little apprehensive about the stroke length. Back in the day we used to always worry whenever...

That's good to hear DK_Sat. I think I read the other day that they used to use these things to control wing flaps on the B-29. Unbelievable. :)

FREE 10 Foot Find! Possible BirdVeiw Find?

I'll be real curious to see what you find out about that first dish. It's the spitting image of my 12 foot, right down to the rusted bolts on the back, except that it's white instead of blue. If you figure out who made it do share :)

    Source for 24" Thomson Saginaw

Thanks voomvoom. I had actually narrowed it down to that one, the Skyvison version (Ultra Power 24"), or the Thomson/Danaher unit. Dad elected to go ahead and spend a little more ... try out the latter. I'll have to report back and post a photo once we actually get it in and mounted. I'm...

    Source for 24" Thomson Saginaw

Thanks tvropro. I checked out the Motech, and was real tempted to give it a shot, but ended up going with a ball screw. Switching out a $100 Skyvision jack I'm probably overcompensating a little :) ... but I figure based upon your exp and that of others, it should last a really long time. It...

    Source for 24" Thomson Saginaw

Thanks guys. This particular part is for a 12 foot fiberglass, so I'm concerned that anything less than a 24" ball screw is going to struggle with the setup. The Thomson Saginaw that Patriot (and several others) currently sell as the TS-24BRL looks suspiciously like a Venture Maxi 24" ball...
