    Learn Spanish

There are many good suggestions here. I would also say that repeating phrases over and over again out loud helps too. Try Duolingo, learn some vocabulary, practice saying sentences in Spanish, and watch Spanish TV to listen for words you recognize. Also try to pay attention to commonly used...

    Learn Spanish

Don't waste your time trying to find a TV program. I believe that a TV program can only be used as a secondary resource to test what you already know. Use the Duolingo app... it's by far the best language learning app ever. AND IT'S ALL FREE!! Studies show that it's more effective than...

Anyone Got a Dish Pointed at 40.5°W?

Thanks for the info Vondertrenk. Are a lot of these channels on 40.5W just feeds? I think that eventually I'll go all out and install an 8' dish, but this probably won't be soon. I have to be fully committed, so this means cutting down a 60' tall tree in my yard (which I really don't like...

    What brand dish is this?

Here in Ohio Hispasat 30W is just a hair below 20 degrees above the horizon. I used a satellite locating app on my iPhone to see where it is located in order to place my dish in a good spot, and I had to strategically place it so that I can clear the neighbor's house. This is what I'm talking...

    What brand dish is this?

Did you check to make sure the LNB settings are correct on the receiver? I know sometimes that's what has caused me to not get a signal... 'cause I switched the LNB, but didn't change the receiver settings. I have a universal LNB, so that's what my microHD must be set at, or else I get nothing.

    What brand dish is this?

Oh yeah, you're right FaT Air. The skew of the LNB is important. I know if the dish is on a vertical pole with no motor, I need to skew the LNB 42 degrees from center.

    What brand dish is this?

Good luck, you'll find it. It just takes patience. Can you even use a TV as a signal finder? Isn't there a slight delay in how long it takes for the picture to appear?

    What brand dish is this?

Don't pay any attention to the reading on the dish. I never do that. Just remember that your dish should be just a hair above vertical. Are you using a signal finder? I use the Easyfind LNB which lights up green when I've locked onto a signal. Here's my dish pointed at 30W. By the way, you...

    What brand dish is this?

Your dish already looks like it's pointing way below what it should be. You don't need to point it down any farther than that. I live in Ohio where Hispasat 30W is at around 20 degrees, and with this offset dish, it looks perfectly vertical. You're in an area where the dish should be pointed...

    What brand dish is this?

Looks like what I have... the Winegard DS-2076. And I have mine pointed at 30W, no motor here in Ohio.

Anyone Got a Dish Pointed at 40.5°W?

Vondertrenk, I just checked out this list in the channel editor, and I'm surprised at all the channels you're getting. You're telling me that you get all these with just a 6' dish? That list is impressive for 40.5W.

Anyone Got a Dish Pointed at 40.5°W?

Sure, I have the Ali Editor if you want to send it. That would be great, and I would really appreciate that. Thanks.

Anyone Got a Dish Pointed at 40.5°W?

So your setup gets linear & circularly polarized? What birds are you pointing your 6' dish at that would require all this? I would be highly interested in learning what you can receive and on which birds. Is investing my money and time in a 6' dish worth it for anything east of 90 degrees...

Anyone Got a Dish Pointed at 40.5°W?

Thanks Vondertrenk for the valuable information. I don't think many people in this forum have a 6' dish pointed at the C-band birds that far east and can give me their results. So I appreciate it. But I have a good view facing east, and it looks like the footprints cover my area.

Anyone Got a Dish Pointed at 40.5°W?

I'm not far from you... Akron, Ohio. I'm considering pointing a 6' dish at 40.5W, but it looks like 55.5W has a lot of unencrypted channels too. Have you tried this bird with your setup? If so, any luck picking up stuff?

Anyone Got a Dish Pointed at 40.5°W?

Thanks for the information... where are you located? Does this mean you're picking up 40.5W with your circular LNB?

Anyone Got a Dish Pointed at 40.5°W?

You're using a linear LNB? How is that even possible when the signals are circular? What's the diameter of your dish?... 10'? I really don't want a large dish. I can barely get away with a 6' dish. I want to use the minimum size for just this one single satellite. No motor, just a...

Anyone Got a Dish Pointed at 40.5°W?

Does anyone have a C-band dish pointed at 40.5°W? I'm curious what people can receive, particularly with only a 6' dish, and where their location is. These are all circularly polarized.

90 cm Dish Compared to a 76 cm (Or Even Bigger)

Interesting input 77TA!! On a side note, I'm seriously considering buying a 1.8 meter dish for C-band from SES 6 at 40.5W. But my hesitations are from people in this forum who think that 6' dishes are not adequate to receive enough channels. I would really appreciate if I could get more input...

90 cm Dish Compared to a 76 cm (Or Even Bigger)

77TA, your comparison of dish sizes is surprising. I've always been happy with my 76 cm dish. It's brought me lots of channels... like over 90% of what I can possibly receive on Ku. I've never had problems with any of the PBS feeds on 125W when I had a motorized dish. Although I could never...

90 cm Dish Compared to a 76 cm (Or Even Bigger)

Ever since I've gotten into FTA a few years ago, I've always been using a 76 cm Ku dish. Right now, I have it stationary at 30°W. I've seen people highly recommend going to at least 90 cm, but I don't understand why this would make much, if any, difference. Are there signals I'm missing? The...

    SES 2 @ 87°W With a 6' Dish

Thanks for the input Corrado and 77TA. I studied the footprint maps, and I figured that 87°W had a really good signal on C-band where I live. But from what it sounds like, a 6' dish may not give me what I desire even on the strong satellites like this one. I don't want spotty unreliable...

    SES 2 @ 87°W With a 6' Dish

I'm curious if there is anyone in this forum who can tell me what results I can expect with a 6' dish pointed at 87°W. I checked the footprint, and I'm in the 42 dBW EIRP here in Ohio. What channels are available here with a 6' dish?

Which Satellite Should I Point At?

You must mean a 90 CENTIMETER dish (not 90 inch).

Which Satellite Should I Point At?

Maybe, just MAYBE, an 8' dish would be a possibility. I saw a 240 cm dish I could purchase online and have it shipped. That would be a 7.87' dish. It is a solid dish, not mesh.
