The AM21N I just did was about 5" x 7". I don't remember the size on the AM21 I did 3 years ago but maybe it was a little larger. It definitely had some different caps around the tuner section enclosure.

Yep. This is the second one I have repaired with caps. The first one was an older AM21 that had a couple of bulging caps. Fixed that one back in 2017 and it is still working.

It has been a long time since I have posted here but I wanted to share this for anyone who may have a "dead" AM21 off-air tuner. My AM21 stopped working and the HR24 display showed both off-air tuners as "removed". Tried resetting, different USB cable, etc. but no joy. I decided to crack open...

Well I am a happy camper. The HR34 is installed and working with my AT9 and SWM8, I maintained my grandfathered package with the DVR fee included in the base package, and no Whole Home/MRV charges. The installer did look at my dish and said he was surprised it worked.

Most of my transponders are 95 or higher but a few are 93 and 94. I have never had a signal issue since installing the AT9 back in 2005. I'll post the results tomorrow.

Well a Directv tech support guy convinced me I would be able to maintain my grandfathered package so I pulled the trigger. They will be out tomorrow. Should be quick and easy as I already installed an SWM8 and they should be able to swap the HR34 for one of my HR24s. Fingers crossed...

Has anyone here been able to upgrade to an HR34 and still maintain their grandfathered package?

I was already talking to Customer Advocate Team and even they couldn't verify that I wouldn't lose my grandfathered package.

Oh well, this isn't going to happen anyway. DirecTV could not guarantee I would maintain my package with the DVR fee included if I get this receiver deal. I'll just stick with what I have for now. Thanks everyone for your input.

Wow if that's true this IV Retest thing is stupid. I have never had a signal issue since I installed the AT9 7 years ago. I still get signal readings in the high 90s to 100 on every satellite and I have never had to re-tweak it.

Hmm. Yeah I really don't want those guys messing with my dish - maybe I'll just get a SWM8 & power injector from ebay and do it myself. Then they can come install just the receiver.

I know they can do that on a Slimline - I didn't think they made a SWiM LNB for the old AT9s.

The AT9 has always worked perfectly since I installed it and tweaked it years ago (2005). I just don't see a need to change the dish out when I could just add the SWM8.

Right - I don't care about sharing programming between the boxes so I will do that. You mentioned replacing the LNB instead of using a SWM8 - can they do that with an AT9 dish (not a Slimline) or will they have to replace the whole dish? I would rather use the SWM8 than change out the dish.

If there is no .40 tick mark like on the Chaparral feed then yes, measure .20" (1/5") up from the feed throat to the bottom of the scalar ring.

If I recall correctly the Unimesh 7.5 has an f/d ratio of .40 so that would be the scalar ring setting and the focal distance is 36" to about 1/4" into the feedhorn throat.

I finally got mine from Panarex ($70 with trade-in of old board) It finds the DVB-S2 signals but I don't think there is a way to see the parameters like FEC, Pilot on/off or QPSK or 8PSK. If any one knows how to see this info, please let me know so I can provide the info in the WUT section...

It should work - just make sure the pole is high enough where the motor doesn't touch the ground and set the limit switch to prevent damage to the dish or mount from overextending the arm.
