Another VOIP question: Ooma and 622

Well, I've had it for close to 3 years now, and it paid for itself after the first 10 months. If they fail tomorrow, I'd still call that a good investment!

Another VOIP question: Ooma and 622

Not much response on this, but I went ahead and ordered the Ooma and figure I'll work it out if I like the system. From what I can figure out, the Homeplug system is probably the best bet, although it seems that if it works that well everyone would be getting rid of their wireless routers. Any...

Another VOIP question: Ooma and 622

I have two receivers, the 622 and a 505 in the daughter's room with no phone line. I've been researching this for last day, and have come up with a few alternatives. One is to disconnect the phone wiring from the phone co. and "loop" the house wiring. Supposedly, all my phone jacks would...

Another VOIP question: Ooma and 622

I think I'm going to try out the Ooma setup and dump my landline. I've done some searching around here, and it seems there is some confusion on whether the 622 will dial out over VOIP with Ooma. Anyone with any insight? I don't want to pay the extra $5 fee, and I have a phone jack next to the...

Long time Dish customer, but I'm confused!

Using the 622 for the daughter's room won't work, plus the girlfriend uses #2 in our bedroom. I could pick up another 508, but I think for now I'm in a wait and see mode. Maybe I'll make a change when the new HD DVR from Dish is available.

Long time Dish customer, but I'm confused!

Thanks for the replies. It doesn't look like I'd save all that much by going that route, so I may just hold off for awhile. Maybe I'll drop the HD Platinum part, since about all I care about in that is HDNet Movies. Maybe someday they will actually have a decent all HD package for a...

Long time Dish customer, but I'm confused!

I used to have a pretty good handle on everything Dish, but it seems in the last couple years that things have changed so much that I no longer have a clue. I've lurked here for years, but don't post much. I currently have a 622 in the front room and a 508 in the daughter's room (which might...

622 Didn't record "Heroes" or "24" finale: Argggh!!!

Thought I'd better reply since I started all this; I did check my schedule, and it said "digital service-event skipped" for 24. The wife said she checked it when it started and it said it was recording 24, not "digital service". Then she said she noticed when she went to check on it later, it...

622 Didn't record "Heroes" or "24" finale: Argggh!!!

What is with this piece of @#$% ! I suppose a new software "update" has turned this thing into a devious monster! They were both scheduled to record, one on OTA, the other on satellite, and since I can't stay up that late I don't even know it until I get home tonight full of anticipation to...

    Universal remotes and dish 622

No one ever seems to pay much attention when I mention this, but a One For All 8820 is what I use for all my home theater components, and it can be programmed or taught to do anything! It's not hard to program, has lots of support, several macro's, the only problem most people have with it is it...

    BEV 5900 or Dish 510?

I just picked up what I thought was a Dish 510 DVR (because that's what it says on the front panel!) but when I turned it on, it says it's an ExpressVu 5900 which doesn't seem to like the 119 or 110 satellites! From what I've found on a search, this cannot be activated with Dish, correct? It...

    622 and Harmony Remote

Just to add confusion to your decision, I have a One For All 8820 learning remote that will control every function for my 942, my Yamaha 5890 , Mits. 55807, etc... And it cost about $15. I love these remotes!

Another 622 Upgrade question: What'll It Cost?

Thanks for the reply! So, can anyone tell me if I can actually record HD locals off the satellite while recording HD locals off antenna? That would be a nice advantage over the 942.

Another 622 Upgrade question: What'll It Cost?

I've been lurking here a lot, and I've been considering upgrading from a 942 to a 622. Even more now that I lost my CBS HD east coast feed! With the 622 I believe I could get my HD locals in Seattle, plus I get them from antenna, so I could theoretically record two HD local signals at once? I'm...

    CBS-HD Is Gone!

I've been receiving CBS HD from NY for several years now, and I always figured it was because I was [I]supposed[I]to be grandfathered in from years of getting the east coast feeds (which they cut off a few years back). I know I don't have a legal right to get it, but with my job, the only way...

    942 Install - new LNB's

Thanks for the reply. Now I know what to ask for!

    942 Install - new LNB's

OK, I'm confused now. So you can run a dual tuner 942 with just one cable coming into the house from the dish if you have a DP lnb? I used to be up on all of this stuff, but I've definitely fallen behind. I was assuming they would have to run a second line to my 942 when it get's installed...

942 lease request - was I too nice?

I tried the email thing, and just got a response. I get the $250 lease, though. I've been a customer for over 7 years. I think I'm going to go for it, which means they will release a new receiver within 6 months!

    Darker picture after 811 install

I just had mine installed about 2 hours ago, and I noticed the same thing. I think you are correct; it's something that should be addressed by a software update. Along with the guide, the picture formats, and (oh please) allowing information on the local OTA digital channels. And Dish, if...

Difference between old 8VSB and new one?

I took advantage of Dish's offer for a free 8VSB, although I have had one since they came out almost 3 years ago. I saw a discussion here awhile back about the chip they use in the 8VSB but I was wondering if it has been changed or improved since they first came out? I took the new one apart...

Recording from my 6000; S-VHS or D-VHS or?

Well, I went ahead and ordered the S-VHS deck for $101 shipped. I know it's old technology, but I'm hoping it will tide me over until I can actually record HD at an affordable price. Thanks again for all the advice, though! I'm sure I'll have a DVD recorder at some point. I just wish they'd...

Recording from my 6000; S-VHS or D-VHS or?

I want to get a DVD recorder at some point, but I think I'll wait awhile until the price point comes down some more. I'm leaning towards the S-VHS for now because I have several old VHS tapes, and as I understand it I'll need the S-video capability to archive them to DVD someday. Anybody...

Recording from my 6000; S-VHS or D-VHS or?

I have to record some things from my 6000 occasionally, mostly because I get up REALLY early and I want to see West Wing or CSI or whatever the next day. I've been using my old Toshiba HiFi VCR for this, and it doesn't look too bad, but it'd be nice to have better picture quality. Of course...

Expiration Date and Committment of Dish 6000 Offer?

I'll give a shot at answering some of your questions; 1. I think I heard it ends Oct. 31, but I'm not sure of that. It might be when they run out of 6000's. 2. I don't think there is any programming commitment. 3. They will want to install it in your relative's home. If they activate it and...
