Hey All!

I finished the fourth C-Band dish on my roof yesterday to be used by the family with the DSR-922 that I got a few weeks ago.

This is the 10 foot SAMI dish that I purchased a few months ago for $50.00. I repainted the panels, and put all new bolts in. It went together perfectly and a perfect string test off the ring, and after mounting on the ring. :D

I actually built this mount my self. Went to a steel place in my hometown about an hour North of here. (Got to go back up there. I found another 1 Meter Primestar ripe for the taking.)

I had the layout, took the measurements, and went out to where I used to work ten years ago, and borrowed their demo room, cut-off saw and welder. Between me and the store manager, we welded it up. The center mast was already welded up by my friend the welder a while back. (He knows me pretty well :D) Took it to another friend who has a drill press for drilling the holes. If you look closely, I put adjustable bolts on the outriggers to make leveling easier rather than using washers like on the other three.

It is another outstanding dish, and gets great reception of both C and Ku.

Here are some pics:

sami-on-g1.jpg sami-on-mount.jpg 3-of-4-buds.jpg

The bad news is, that after bringing the 922 inside and hooking it up, apparently the power supply has gone bad. I made some length inquiries on another forum that specializes in 4dtv, and that seems to be the consensus.

Here is the email I sent to ATS Electronics this morning.

I recently acquired a used DSR-922. My electronics neighbor and I replaced the battery as soon as I got it.

It had a VCII module in it, and I had both Unit ID's authorized with a subscription with NPS.

I noticed that when I pressed the 9 button under options, the message was that it couldn't find the VCII module, yet the module worked. Used it for two weeks and everything worked fine. Shut it down while waiting to put up a separate dish for it because this unit was intended for the living room. I have a separate 920 for my den.

I used the 922 to setup the dish at the dish junction box yesterday, and everything was working fine.

Brought the unit inside, ran the ribbon cable inside, hooked everything up, the unit came to the warm-up on the front, but would boot no further.

After taking out the VCII module, and unhooking all wires, it did come back on. I verified there were no shorts in the cable with an old analog unit. Checked the LNB inputs for voltage, got 20.4 V DC on both inputs.

Hooked the C-Band LNB up, and tried again. Only got to the warm-up stage again.

I was advised on 4dtvforums to try a rapid plug-unplug in 2 second cycles to see if it would clear it, and if it did come on to do a master reset. It did come back on, I verified the Unit ID was ok, and that I was getting a good DC lock on TP 3, and I did a master reset while on G1, TP 3.

It won't get past the warm-up now now matter what I do.

I am told that it is probably the power supply not putting out a full 5 volts for the micro-processor.

Do you think it is the power supply that has gone bad, or gotten damaged by the VCII module?

Can I buy just a power supply from you, and put it in myself?

If so, what is the price on the power supply?

As you can read, don't know what caused it, but probably the VCII module went bad, and damaged the power supply.

So now, I need to find a used power supply, failing that find out what a new one costs, and I need a used working VCII module. I understand that the power supply isn't too hard to replace.

Needless to say it was a little disappointing.

If someone here has a 922 that the Unit ID is dead, or has gone bad for some other reason than the power supply, I would be interested in buying the PS.

I will post in the classifieds asking for the Power Supply and VCII module.

Thanks,

Fred

It cooled off again a little here last night and this morning and the high was only 87, so I went up on the roof early and made an adjustment to the wave-guide, and set it back to the proper F/D ratio by the book and put on a new servo motor. The old one was making some noise, and I thought I might as well change it now.

I am going to put a couple of washers under the support arms tomorrow morning. (supposed to be 65 F here)

Went back inside to set the skew on a couple of birds, and all of a sudden I lost signal on both C and Ku. I couldn't figure out what happened for a little bit. Pushed the buttons to go to G1 (G15) for a possible Master Reset. Seemed like the motor was working, but when it got there still no signal. Went outside and looked and the dish had gone all the way over to the west side.

The actuator that I had on there was a Von Weise that I got with a dish last fall. When I got it, I took it apart, and it was pretty rusty, so I cleaned it all up, and lubed it good before I put it up. I noticed some small rust/sawdust like flakes in the housing when I cleaned it up but didn't think anything much about it. It has worked fine for about a month now.

When I pulled it apart today, the housing was full of the little flakes, and the fiber piece that is moved by the worm gear was disintegrated. I guess when it was last used without lubrication, the fiber piece had started to deteriorate, and even though I wired brushed all the rust off the worm gear, and lubed everything good, the damage was already done.

We had a big storm go through here Sunday night late with 60 mph gusts, and I noticed Monday morning some of the sats were off, but thought it might have moved on the mast. I checked it then, but the chisel marks were still lined up. I guess the wind pressure was just too much for it.

Anyway, I have 3 or 4 actuators here, so I grabbed an 18" heavy duty Von Weise which I actually got with the SAMI dish, took it apart, and re-lubed it. It was like new and had been taken care of by the previous owner.

Put it on, and did a MR because too much difference between an 18" and the old 24", and got most of the sats reprogrammed in.

It is up there now working like a charm. Everything else on the old actuator is still good. I'll keep it. Might need the motor some day, or I might find another one with the motor bad, and the fiber piece/arm still good.

I am glad that we are finally starting to have some cooler days. :)

What a great setup.

The wife don't want me to add another 10 footer. :(

I feel for you Labgate!

When I first started with a single BUD, I had my first analog receiver slaved to my Pansat, and used the VBox II to move the dish. I had to change channels on the Pansat every time I wanted to watch something different on the analog. It got to be a pain and I hardly watched the analog after that.

When I got the Birdview dish, I suddenly had an opportunity to move the Pansat to it's own separate dish. The analog had it's own dish, and life was getting interesting.

I got the Pinnacle dish for the family and put a Pansat/VBox II on it for them. After they began seeing what I was seeing, the protests started dying down.

Then I found my first 4DTV receiver, and replaced the analog with it. I set it up with a coax for the living room to be able to watch whatever I was watching. After that, the fights began as to who was going to watch what.

So I had to find a 4th dish and another 4DTV receiver. There were no protests against my doing that except how much I was to spend. :)

The rest is history and doesn't even count the Ku dishes and two SG2100s I have, one of which I don't even have hooked up anymore. The Ecoda switch and fixed Ku dishes with multi LNBFs put one of my SG2100s out of business. :D

My wife likes it that this hobby keeps me active so she is very forgiving. :)

I got on the roof this morning and put two flat fender washers between the support arms and the dish which put the 45.6" Focal length just about 1/8" inside the throat of the wave-guide.

I have everything with the F/D, Focal Length, and centering of the wave guide as good as it is going to get.

The next step will be hauling the 920 and the Pansat to the roof for the final fine tuning of Ku.

The C-Band signals are fantastic, but the Ku is just not what I think this dish is capable of producing. I may be wrong about that, but we'll see the first full day when it is going to be fairly cool. At least one day with a low of 60F and a high of 80F shouldn't be but a couple of weeks away. Then I will be done with this dish.

Luckily my DTV stream package doesn't have a rsn fee. Figure DTV that always says is the leader in sports would have come to an agreement by now.

Greenville-New Bern is $11.99 for MASN (Orioles) and Nationals
Raleigh is $11.99 for MASN and Nationals
Charlotte is $12.99 for BravesVision, MASN, Nationals and Reds

The fee in NC also includes the higher in state rate they have to pay for ACCN. Down in SC the fee is $15.99 as they are also a SEC state.
I'm not sure if they're doing it with those teams, but in some markets they also use the fee to cover the additional cost they have to pay for independents and MyNet stations that picked up full season NHL and NBA rights.

If you go to the TVPromise site, you'll likely be able to get a credit for not getting the Hurricanes and additional Hornets games that air on WITN-D2

Figure DTV that always says is the leader in sports would have come to an agreement by now.
Part of the hold out might be the packaging and price for outer areas like how the Thunder needs sports pack for other states. Hopefully they are also pushing for a guarantee from the teams that they would require whoever wins their local broadcasting rights in 2028 to negotiate with MVPDs. Commercial distribution rights are probably a factor too.

I'm guessing they got a deep discount for the Clippers based on how long it took them to officially announce ClipperVision and their KTLA simulcasts after they were basically handed a multi-year draft death penalty.

The Predators and Pistons channels are using feeds supplied by Scripps Sports

The Heat likely depends on whoever they sign for the Fort Myers DMA, as there's no point in paying a high price for the Heat just for that DMA when WPLG is streaming it for free on their app and website for viewers in the Miami DMA, and they already carry the West Palm Beach station.

One thing these five teams have in common is that they all signed exclusive local streaming rights deals with DAZN, replacing their traditional regional sports networks.

I know the Spurs will have 22 games available OTA on KMYS-TV CW35 in the San Antonio market, but they'll still be available on DAZN as well. The CW35 broadcasts are an additional option, not an exclusive arrangement.

With channel 680 now available, we should be able to get all the Spurs home feeds on NBALP again! (as well as the other teams above of course)

Well, the bag can't weigh that much, right? But by law food product packaging must display the actual net weight of the product, i.e., the contents of the container, so by any logic, if not law, a store's stated per-ounce cost should reflect that figure. But since there's not any law regulating shelf statements, a store can say whatever it wants without violating any rules. So I guess the answer is more consumer legislation. Or simply caveat emptor.

But a box can weigh more than an ounce..maybe 2...a can might weigh 5 ounces..a bag...not much

Well, according to the price per ounce on that first bag of coffee he mentions, that would mean the bag weighed over 6 ounces. That bag does NOT weigh 6 ounces. According to Google, an empty bag weighs half an ounce.

You need to weigh the actual bag...a deli bag weighs less than that but a thick coffee bag is gonna weigh around an ounce...an empty tin can has some weight

Products sold by the ounce, pound, etc, should always be priced for the product only. Only the shipping weight should include the packaging.

Unless the specific product or its packaging is known at the time of weighing, estimating the tare weight for a PoS system is a tall order.

I'm pretty sure that produce bags can't get any thinner. ;)

You certainly don't want to put unbagged produce on a belt, scale, or in a clerk's hands (gloved or not).

I would think that all the packaging would already be accounted for ... they weigh the container, subtract that from the scale, then add the product , so its weighing the Product only

You would be thinking wrong when it comes to goods that are sold by weight (meat, produce, nails). Those items typically go on the scale wrapped without an associated tare. The weight only excludes the sticker because it hasn't been printed yet.

Thats ridiculous ....

Thats not how Deli does it, I know your talking pre packaged.
They need to CHANGE that.
Jimbo
A pound of Coffee, does that include the package it's in ?

No, a pound of coffee refers strictly to the net weight of the coffee itself (16 ounces), not including the weight of the bag or packaging. [1, 2]
  • Net Weight: Food and coffee sold by weight are required by law to list the net weight on the label, which measures only the contents inside the package. [1, 2]
    • Packaging Weight: The foil bag, valve, and label add extra weight to the total item when you hold it, meaning the gross weight on a scale will be slightly more than 16 ounces.
    • Watch Out for Bag Sizes: Always check the label carefully, as many specialty roasters now sell 12-ounce (three-quarter pound) bags while keeping the price or visual impression similar to a full pound. [1, 2, 3]
meStevo
The larger discrepancies are likely from a data or sync issue. Digital tags don't cause the error, but they can spread one bad entry across a whole store or region instantly. The small cent differences are probably just rounding in the weight, the price data, or both.

Perhaps only for sliced meat and cheese. Salads and similarly "shifty" or "drippy" items are typically weighed in deli cartons of some sort.

My monster burritos (up to two lbs.) are weighed in their foil jackets or paper mache take-out trays, and the jacket/tray is then "sealed" with the printed label as it comes off the printer.

Precision has to give way to practicality in situations like that.

You mean you were pirating the VCII and entering "Wizard numbers" every month after key change? GI finally resorted to changing out the keys twice as often, then even more often, down to just hours, making it mostly untenable?

When i was a kid, i used to salivate envisioning me having a Cband dish. It wasn't until about 1995, I installed my first Cband dish, and i remember it took me about 2 weeks to get that dish aligned properly.. This was before internet, and i had to call and talk with people on the phone about advice on how to properly tune the dish. I can't remember the receiver, but it had a UHF remote. I had the satellite receiver in the living room, but i ported it to two TV's, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. It was so nice being able to control the receiver with the remote in the bedroom about 40 feet from the living room. I remember watching Rosanne feeds where it would air the entire week in succession. Nice nostalgia.

That is a misnomer. In the old days you subscribed to telephone service. That included the telephone line and one telephone. An extension cost $1 a month extra. So that $14,000 over 42 years was for the service not the leased telephone. There is no way they paid $28 a month for 42 years for a leased telephone.

This piece gets me - the fact that Dish has removed SD channels from satellite completely in the name of "HD upgrades". Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....
