</td></tr> <tr> <td>Long Pond, PA - Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (Junior), No. 8 Budweiser Monte Carlo SS, captured the pole for Sunday's running of the Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway. It is Junior's first NASCAR Nextel Cup Series pole since Kansas, 2002 and the seventh of his Cup career.

But Junior's pole was not without drama. Scheduled 40th in the order of the 47 cars attempting to qualify for the 21st race of the season, he had rolled off pit road, taken the green flag and started lap one of his qualifying effort when rain started to fall around the 2.5-mile track. Instead of taking the white flag to complete his first lap, quick thinking saw Junior dive down pit road and stop before the start/finish line.

NASCAR waited for the shower to pass, dried the track, allowed Junior's Tony Eury, Jr.-led crew to cool down the car and put a new set of tires on and Junior headed out to attempt his qualifying run in full. He snagged the pole with a lap of 52.949-seconds/169.975 mph.

Kyle Busch, No. 5 Kellogg's/CARQUEST Monte Carlo SS will roll of third for the 200-lap/500 mile race.

A total of five Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS drivers secured top-10 starting positions. Two-time Pocono winner Denny Hamlin, No. 11 FedEx Express Monte Carlo SS will roll of sixth followed by Jimmie Johnson, No. 48 Lowe's Monte Carlo SS, also a double winner at Pocono, in sixth.

Casey Mears, No. 25 National Guard/GMAC Monte Carlo SS, will start in eighth position.

There will be 18 Bowtie drivers in the field when the green flag flies at 2:00 p.m. EDT. ESPN will provide live coverage of the Pennsylvania 500 with pre-race starting at 1:00 p.m. EDT.

Dale Earnhardt Jr., No. 8 Budweiser Monte Carlo SS, pole winner for Pennsylvania 500 transcript from the post-qualifying press conference:

THIS IS YOUR 7TH CAREER NASCAR NEXTEL CUP POLE AND YOUR FIRST POLE SINCE SEPT. 29, 2002 AT KANSAS. TAKE US THROUGH YOUR LAP:
"Well, the car handled perfect. We had a lot of help. First I want to credit Martin Truex, Jr. and Bono (Kevin Manion, crew chief on No. 1 Monte Carlo SS) and the Bass Pro guys. They're car was really good here last time and we learned a lot from that and brought a lot of those things back, mechanically, on our car; and it's been good all day long. So the car handled really, really good. I think we were going to be about anywhere from maybe fifth to 12th had the weather not came. And the weather come and cooled the track down a little bit and obviously that's going to help us quite a bit to be able to go even later in the day. It sped the track up for us to be able to take advantage of that and get the pole. So I was really happy about that. The lap was simple. The car was handling so well that the lap wasn't a whole lot of issues on the lap itself. The weather helped us out a good bit. The track dried fast so they didn't have to use the jet blowers too much. Like any other c ar, the jet blowers burn oil and that oil comes out the exhaust and it films the track up a little bit for the next guy to go. The track dried so fast they didn't have to blow the track for too long. I was really happy."

TONY EURY JR. SAID THAT HAVING HIM BACK AT POCONO OUGHT TO GIVE YOU ABOUT FIVE OR SIX SPOTS. OTHER THAN THAT, HAS IT BEEN MORE OF A RELIEF TO HAVE HIM AROUND? WHAT DO YOU CREDIT, OTHER THAN TRUEX, WITH BEING STRONG ON THE BIG FLAT TRACKS?
"Tony Jr. is a talented crew chief and with him on board I feel I can consistently compete and be competitive. As the technology evolves in this sport, some crew chiefs can keep up and some can't. Tony Jr. is one of the guys that understands new technology. A lot of guys are followers and some guys are innovators. He's an innovator. He comes up with half this stuff. So, it's good to have a guy like that and that's why I kind of hold on to him so tightly now and need him and want to work with him the rest of my career. But sometimes, if you look at our track record, we get off track. If we get off track at a 1.5-mile track, we suffer at all of them, all the 1.5-mile tracks. If we get off track at Loudon or somewhere, we suffer at all the other flat tracks for the rest of the year until we figure out what the issue is or what the problem is. With Tony Jr. being as good as he is, or as he would like me to say great (laughter), it's helped tremendously this year to have Kevin Man ion and his team start bringing that type of innovation to the plate and to the forefront of the company to where when we go to places like this, I'm using a lot of things that they learned and know. That's how we ran so well at Indy, essentially the same set-up here as you run at Indy. We ran really good at Indy and Martin had this little trick they learned and we took it to Indy and we run good with it. So that's helped a lot too. You've got to give credit to them guys and to the whole company for continuing to provide us with great equipment and great personnel and healthy race cars and healthy race teams that come to the race track and work together during practice and produce decent handling and good driving race cars that we can run up front with. It's really a good feeling."

BEYOND THE TRACK COOLING DOWN, WERE YOU ABLE TO PICK UP ANY BENEFIT FROM BEING OUT THERE A LITTLE BIT TO MAKE ANY ADJUSTMENTS OR ANYTHING?
"Well, NASCAR won't let us make any adjustments to the car, I don't think. I was surprised that they let us even put another set of tires on. But when I first went out there it was raining a little bit. I felt I could still make the lap. But as I got going around the track, I got the green and when I went down into (Turn) 1, I couldn't even see it was raining so hard. And we don't have windshield wipers and we don't use Rain-X, which would have worked pretty good in that situation. By the time I got to Turn 3, the track was wet and I lost the corner and I lost the lap completely. And I didn't know; nobody said anything on the radio, but I just decided to come down pit road and not complete the lap. I didn't know what the etiquette was in that situation. Does NASCAR force me to rear? Does NASCAR let me run again? But they let us cool down and run again. Obviously the track wasn't in a situation to run on. That was kind of cool. I was surprised to get the tires. But we didn't m ake any adjustments. We just went right back out there."

DURING THE RAIN DELAY, YOU SIGNED A BUNCH OF AUTOGRAPHS AND MADE EVERYBODY HAPPY. TALK ABOUT THAT:
"Well, I don't know if everybody gets happy because if you walk away some of them cuss at you (laughter), but you've got to walk away at some point, so you just have to get cussed at some point. But we could joke about that all day long. But I think when the fans are there and they are three or four dip on pit wall and it's very uncomfortable. They've probably got somebody next to them that needs to change deodorant brands (laughter) and it's obviously not the best situation to be in. Imagine being in that position without me talking about how bad it can be. But it's sticky and hot and everybody is getting rained on and the blowers come by and blow stuff on you. I can't go back the bus because I'm going to have to get in the car and run at any moment. They have a lot of questions and it gives me an opportunity to hear what they're wanting to know and what their opinions are because you'd like to know what your fan base thinks. You can't get on the internet and read about it b ecause you run across so many other things that are ridiculous that you just have to get it from the horses mouth. So it's good to be able to talk to the fans when you can get them in a crowd like that and really listen to what they're saying. Some of them are congratulating us and wishing us good luck and if they didn't accept it at first, they seem to be excited about it over time. That's a good feeling. That really makes me feel good and makes me feel positive about continuing to work hard the rest of the year and continuing to race hard. Everybody gets their motivation from different areas. But I get a lot of my motivation from my fan base. And I'm sort of dependent on that. It's a good opportunity to get a little bit of an idea about what they're thinking."

ARE YOU SURPRISED THAT IT'S BEEN FIVE YEARS BETWEEN POLES?
"Yeah, I am. We almost got one at Dover. Newman got us there at the end. But I try to get them, but they are hard to get. And it's kind of cool. They're giving these flags out now. So we're going to hang that up somewhere. I don't put a lot of emphasis on poles. I probably do that because I don't get them but every so often. It's good to be able to go and run that Shootout and have gotten in there the right way. You've got all these guys around you who are the same age as you or younger, that you're very competitive with in this sport, and they're in there with poles. And you're standing there like some old man that's a past winner. And so it's good to get out there and get a pole every once in a while just to show you can and that you've still got it. Qualifying and racing are two different things. Qualifying takes a different type of discipline. And obviously we just didn't go out there in the blistering sun and run a lap off. We had a little help today, but I'm still prett y proud of my team."

AFTER THREE CONSECTIVE TOP 10'S, YOU'VE GONE ABOUT SIX RACES NOW WITHOUT A TOP 10. CAN YOU FEEL THE LOSS OF MOMENTUM? CAN YOU FEEL MOMENTUM RETURN? AND DOES THIS HELP?
"Well, the one thing you do feel I guess is more of a loss of confidence. You get to where you're laying in bed at two o'clock in the morning Wednesday night and you're calling Tony Jr. up waking him up and asking, 'Is that car going to be fast this weekend?' So that normally doesn't happen when we're running good. But he said that I had to stop calling him in the middle of the night (laughter). But I'm getting so frustrated. I try really hard to put on a good face in front of my team after we had issues like this past weekend. I try to put on a good face after that happens because they have to go back to work and they have to stay motivated and work hard and if I get out and throw things or cuss somebody or act like a fool, it just doesn't look good. And as bad as I wanted to get mad and be frustrated and be angry at not being able to finish the race that I felt like we were going to finish well in, you've just got to carry yourself with a better attitude. So, I feel like we keep the momentum by keeping the good attitude. We show back up here and we run well in practice as if we never had a problem last week. But the one thing that you do feel is during the week. Whenever I run bad, I want to get back to the race track again the next day. I want another shot. I want to re-do. I want whatever I can get. And you have to wait the whole week. And you sit around, sit around, sit around to wait to find out whether you're going to have another disappointment or some sort of success. So the weeks get long. And that's probably the only problem. I feel like we're not a 12th place team. We're a fifth place team if not, even more successful than that. We've had a lot of bad luck this year. And more bad luck than we normally have. Everybody goes through their little problems and has things happen to them during the race here and there. We've had a lot of things that we've normally not had before in the span of a season. I'm a little frustrated. But I still feel like we'll make the Chase with ease because we're such a good team. If we don't make the Chase, I'll be the most surprised person, not only in this room, but in this garage; because I feel totally confident that we've got control of it and we can get it done."

CAN YOU TALK ABOUT KEVIN MANION AND HOW HE'S BEEN SUCH AN INSTRUMENTAL PART OF DEI AND HOW HE'S NOW BRINING MARTIN ALONG?
"Yeah, a lot of people wouldn't remember or recall that when I ran the No. 31 car in Michigan in 1997 in the Busch Series, it was about the seventh race of my Busch Series career, Kevin Manion was the crew chief. Kevin came with Steve Park. When Steve moved to run with Tony Eury Sr., Kevin was sort of like just getting passed around doing odd jobs within the organization and one of his odd jobs happened to be to crew chief my car one weekend. So we drove to the track in my Late Model gooseneck. And we ran seventh, and I was pretty proud to do that out of the gooseneck trailer. On the way there I told him we had to stop and get some CD's from Wal-Mart, but he refused to stop because he knew he wasn't going to like my taste in music anyway. But he was just so hell-bent and determined to stay the course and this was the job. We're going to race and nothing gets in the way of that. I'm like, come on man, pull her over and let's get some music, you know. Let's stop for a while and get some Sun-Drop. But he was really dedicated. But he was kind about it. When some guys get serious and they get angry when people don't follow suit. But he would get serious and when you didn't go his route, he was pretty kind about it and he had a good attitude. We've stayed friends and I always felt like that he was sort of a guy under the radar that was eventually going to be able to make his break and get on the scene and do some good things and he's doing that now. And he has a lot of talent when he puts his mind to it and stays focused on his studies within his notes and whatever his cars are doing and geometry and so forth; he's quite a talent. Hopefully everything will stay in order for him, personally and professionally, to where he can continue to excel in his career. I think he's got a great opportunity to do great things."

YOU JUST TALKED ABOUT THE CHASE AND SEVERAL OF THE GUYS AROUND YOU THAT ARE TRYING TO BREAK IN, ARE STARTING AROUND YOU IN SUNDAY'S LINE-UP. HOW MUCH DO YOU PAY ATTENTION TO THOSE GUYS AROUND YOU?
"I pay attention to them enough, I guess. Like when the No. 12 (Newman) crashed, I said where's the 12 and they said he'd wrecked. I kept that in the back of my mind for the rest of the race at Indy. I wanted to constantly remind myself, maybe every 20 laps, that I had the opportunity to gain quite a few points on him that day. So, I still took some risk. Me and Tony (Stewart) raced really hard there a couple of times on some restarts. That was a lot of fun. I'll take the risk and have the fun before I'll take it easy, especially when my car was as good as it was. So I do pay a little bit of attention to that. My team has a habit of not telling me that that's happened. If Kurt (Busch) blows up or somebody, they won't tell me about it. Which, I feel like, if I'm a crew chief, I want to tell my driver. Say hey man, this guy is having trouble or that guy is having trouble. Keep that in mind today. Try not to be in the same boat with them. Try to get the thing in the bag and get some points. But I don't know. They're just not very informative when it comes to those types of things. I have to pry the Redskins score out of them and everything when it comes down to it, even when they're winning. Tony Jr. is not much of a talker."

Kyle Busch, No. 5 Kellogg's/CARQUEST Monte Carlo SS, qualified third at Pocono Raceway, transcript from the post-qualifying press conference:

ON HIS QUALIFYING LAP AND CHANGES IN THE TRACK:
"Well, in the beginning, I think it was pretty cool. Jimmie Johnson ran it out a little bit as it was sprinkling. Seemed like the sun came out and it got a little bit warmer for everybody, times seemed to slow down for a few guys. Kurt (Busch) still laid an awesome lap down there is the middle of the sun. Then it started cooling off a little bit with the shade and, of course, the brief rain shower there again right before Junior (Dale Earnhardt, Jr.) was trying to complete his lap there and was able to get back out.

"Being third is not bad here at Pocono. We ended up I think fourth in qualifying here in the Spring. Had a great race going, we were battling up in the front there with some of those guys. So hopefully we can do the same this time.

"The lap was good. I felt like I got everything I could out of the race car, unlike Indianapolis last week where I felt like I missed every corner. This week, we were able to hit everything right and third best was it."

ON LOOKING AT FIRST DRAFTS OF CONTRACTS:
"That is about it. We have a few drafts from some people. We will sit down and look at those on Monday and a couple of them showed up I think Thursday and another one Friday - today. I will look at the Monday, I don't like to take attention away from my racing program any, so we aren't going to worry about that until Monday."

ON RACING CLOSE WITH KURT GOING IN TO THE FIRST TURN OF THE FIRST LAP:
"It should work out just fine. I think I start behind the Bud car, so hopefully no blue paint gets on the red car and I think Newman (Ryan) is fourth so hopefully no white/black, whatever color is on his car, gets on the white of the bottom of Kurt's rear bumper. I think everything will work out just fine. We will get down in there and see who comes out of Turn One with the lead, I think we will have a pretty good race car for Sunday overall and be able to race those guys up front. I know when we raced here the previous time, Denny (Hamlin) was really really good and (Tony) Stewart was really really good, they run up front most of the time. There was a gaggle of us that were battling for third. It was Newman, myself, Kurt, Martin Truex and I think I am spacing out one other one that was up there, we were all just all over each other, Burton, Jeff Burton. There was definitely a battle for third going on. But it seems like one and two with the No. 11 and the No. 20 were pr etty good."

ON KURT MAKING THE CHASE:
"Well, there are 500 miles here to race on Sunday. Lining up doesn't mean much I don't think. I think it is just about a battle throughout the whole race, seeing who can come out better. Kurt has an awesome shot at making the Chase, so does Junior. I think it is going to be tight, hopefully an exciting Chase for TV so they can make something of it coming to Richmond."

ON WHAT POINT RACING AT POCONO DO YOU THINK YOU MIGHT HAVE A CHANCE TO WIN:
"On probably about lap 10, maybe eight, you figure it out and see where you are going to end up. Some guys who start further in the back who maybe didn't qualify so well, they will come up through the field and be there at the end of the race. It can all come down to pit strategy. It could all come down to fuel mileage. It can come down to guys having brakes at the end of the race; I mean brakes on the race car, not breaks on the track. It can come down to basically keeping all four tires under you. You can't burn your right front off or burn your brakes out. There are a lot of different circumstances every week that come in to play. Sometimes you are running around there in fifth and all of a sudden you see guys dwindling down either because they are crashing or something goes wrong. I am sure a lot of guys have seen that with me and I have seen that with a few others too. It is the same thing every week."

He needed this after last week... ;)

Next thing we're going to hear is JR says he's part indian and did a rain dance in his car the first time he went out to qualify.
Jimbo
Yes he has tough luck last week, had a real good car at Indy too.
I think he's re energized by the DEI / Hendricks thing.
He need something to go his way for a change and he'll be in good shape for the Chase...
IF the car run good he should be able to hold off Busch and Neuman to make the Chase.

And finishes 2nd to the guy he has to beat to get into the Chase .... thats the way his season has been going.

On Tuesday, I recorded the first episodes of the new season's NCIS shows on CBS (Dish provided, not OTA). The new New York series and Origins will both do Auto Skip, but the original, now season 24 does not. What's stranger, when I do a search for NCIS, Origins and New York show the current recording and the next episode it will record, but the original show only shows the current recording and some other channel showing the very first episode of season one. It makes no sense. When I set up the timers, I was able to use search for Origins and New York, but for the original, I had to scroll ahead in the guide until last Tuesday when the show was airing. Then set the timer from there. You can see its timer type is DVR where the other two are Seek. What am I missing?
Thanks!

And there is a difference between fast forward and skip forwad....

With both CBS and Fox autohop (as we know) is not enabled for a week..But after 24 hours if you mash the FF button until the red kangaroo shows up in the bottom right you wont overshoot the program. No need to try to figure how long the break is.

Yep. We do this all the time, but we use the 30-sec skip forward button until the red kangaroo shows up. Love this feature.

I'm a bit confused about the recording methods.
Do you havePrime Time Anytime enabled, by doing that you don't have to set recordings for Prime time programs on ABC, CBS, NBC or Fox stations, it's done daily, 7 days a week.
And only 2 weeks recordings are saved, no deletions either.

Correct. If you enable PTAT, you don't have to set other timers for those programs. You can choose all of the 4 networks or as few as you want. You also can choose all 7 days or other options. However the programs will auto delete after 8 days unless you save that episode or save the whole series.

Wait…..
So even though DAZN keeps touting 'only way to see games' if you are a subscriber to Choice (like my stepdad) if an agreement is reached he can see the Wolfies on 668?
I know the Wild are in dispute and a slate is on 668-1.

They're finally live in the app's API, doing a check

PISTONS is not available in Detroit (WMYD/20), it is available in the rest of Michigan including Marquette who also gets the games on their MyNet station WJMN/3, along with the Toledo DMA and the northern portions of the South Bend and Fort Wayne DMAs.

THUNDER is available in OKC and Tulsa, so I wonder if DTV is just going to keep the OTA feeds of KSBI/52 and KQCW/19 and direct viewers to 675 for the rest of the games.
On stream it's in Choice for Oklahoma and Western Arkansas and requires Sports Pack for Nebraska, Kansas and Western Missouri, I'm not sure if it's the same for satellite.

Just finished S2. Watching Gary Oldman as deshvilved, dejected MI-6 agent, Jackson Lamb, is one of the best things streaming right now. Already 2 more seasons in the works. HIGHLY recommended. And yes, Mick Jagger sings the theme.

Well, the season finale went balls to the wall. Non stop action and several twisted twists. Gary Oldman at his best. Very well written and executed. Tavener owes Jackson big time. Only "if" was Jack Lowden's (River) cliffhanger, especially admin-st the buzz that he is the next James Bond in waiting.

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

I had one, the front panel lighting was cool, the menus were fresh and a lot more modern looking than the ViPs. However, it was very buggy and the Sling functionality just didn't work well - I think it was due to internet speeds at the time. I think I had to pay $40 for the Sling app on my phone iirc.

I had both the 921 and the 922. I used to buy them from DishDepot.com in Florida and trade in my older owned receiver towards the newest receiver. The 921 was a reboot receiver and the sling part was hit or miss. I look back on all those receivers I paid for over 25 years and I think it was just TV. If I had that money back now I would be lot richer. My Owned Hopper 3 is sitting in a drawer in my office not being used.

That was part of the Ergen scheme, to sell the product as well as the service. And who didn't want the best box?

Maybe they went to the hopper because they were running out of 3-digit model #s- 1022 would have been kinda clunky. Folks would have tried to say "one-thousand and twenty two" instead of "ten-twenty-two".

Like some say "two thousand and twenty six".

That's not really unusual. Cable companies like to the provide the box too. The phone company provided the phones in until the government forced them to allow third-party phones.

Much better than the critics would want you to believe. Only problem, the last guy was pretty obvious a couple of episodes in.

Amazon Sets 'The Lord of the Rings' TV Series In Mega Deal With Multi-Season Commitment

$250 Million just for the rights to make something :eeek

The LOTR original series, a prequel to Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Ring, will be produced by Amazon Studios in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust; HarperCollins; and New Line Cinema, a division of Warner Bros. Entertainment, which produced the hugely successful LOTR movie franchise.

Set in Middle Earth, the television adaptation will explore new storylines preceding Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Ring.

Two friends recommended this show to me and I was hooked by the second ep of season 1! Production values are amazing and the episode runtimes are (typically) over an hour, which makes it really easy get hooked on the story because they're playing it out with movie-like pacing rather than a 34-40 minute episode. Acting and casting is really good as well!

I got started on season 2 a few nights ago and was wondering if anyone else is watching?

I am amazed you like it.

Made it thru season 1, thought it was terrible, but wanted to give it a chance, made it to halfway on Season 2, Episode 2, just could not take it anymore.

It like they took the worse Lord of the Rings fan-fiction off the internet and made it into a TV Series.

Yes, the production values are high, but that does not make it into a good series.

They're taking a lot of this from The Silmarillion, of which I'm not quite a third of the way through yet, and sure, they've invented some new people, places and situations, but it's still (IMHO) a really good prequel to LOTR. Having only just started season 2, I'm still enjoying it quite a bit. I'm really not seeing the fan-fic angle in it. If season 2 proves to be as enjoyable as season 1 was for me, I'd sure like to see a 3rd season.

For some reason, the satelliteguys.us site is loading a lot slower than usual on both Chrome on my Asus laptop and Safari on my iPhone.
I'm also seeing longer appearances of the blue bar at the top and the "3 blue bars" loading symbol.
Is anyone else also having the same problem? Thanks in advance.

PHP and a heapin' helpin' of JavaScript.

As dated as it is, PHP is eminently adept at projects like a forum. With modules, it is competitive in flexibility and computational efficiency with tools like Node.js or Ruby (where you must choose from many outboard tools).

I'm surprised Walmart hasn't banned this guy from all of their stores. He has been on their CASE the past few months.

When walmart set a price...they weigh the container and the product...the product label only shows the weight of the product...I am sure if you brought your own plastic baggies to bring the product home you could get the cheaper price

Then they are stupid. Everyone knows that the price per ounce should be the price per ounce of actual product.

Meat with a bone in it. It contributes to the weight.

Bone-in is a well-known and often prized attribute. Adding the tray and the film isn't right.

Well, the bag can't weigh that much, right? But by law food product packaging must display the actual net weight of the product, i.e., the contents of the container, so by any logic, if not law, a store's stated per-ounce cost should reflect that figure. But since there's not any law regulating shelf statements, a store can say whatever it wants without violating any rules. So I guess the answer is more consumer legislation. Or simply caveat emptor.

But a box can weigh more than an ounce..maybe 2...a can might weigh 5 ounces..a bag...not much
dishstaller

Well, according to the price per ounce on that first bag of coffee he mentions, that would mean the bag weighed over 6 ounces. That bag does NOT weigh 6 ounces. According to Google, an empty bag weighs half an ounce.

For quite a while now, people with a VIP211k have been losing their recordings on their activated external HDDs... even when there's nothing physically wrong with HDD. I believe this is an intentional and underhanded tactic that Dish is pulling in an attempt to force users away from the VIP211k.

They are obviously regretting that they ever let users have a "non-dvr" dvr in the first place. You would think they would be happy charging you a $40 one time fee... and then be happy letting the customer be the one responsible for HDD failures.

Dish clearly hates the 211k bitter-clingers. This recording deletion problem is intentional (IMO), and I think it is just one more tool that they are using. Hopper and a 2-year agreement... that's what they want you to have. Think about that... a 2-year agreement... with a company $30 Billion in debt (that's with a B). What happens when all that debt causes them to drop the channel that may have been your whole reason for having Dish in the first place? Guess who's stuck with a service that no longer suits their needs... for the remainder of the 2-year agreement.

On top of that, they don't want you to install it yourself. I purchased and installed all my equipment myself. That used to be common. Now, they lie to me and tell me that my dish must be updated to use a Hopper. Funny thing is... they don't even know what dish I have because they didn't install it, and I didn't tell them. If you ask what type of dish/LNBs the hopper needs... good luck getting an answer. All they know is that whatever you have needs to be upgraded by an installer.

It is quite apparent to me that they care much more about staying in their box, than they do working with the customer. That's too bad, because it hasn't always been that way. It's like they are totally unaware of the current business environment that they are trying to compete in.

I have been a customer since 2010. I will be cancelling my service before the next period. Yeah, I know, my $1,200 a year won't make a difference to them. It just seems like they have forgotten who needs who, especially when you consider the competition in today's streaming world. But hey, they will have succeed in forcing me off the 211k.

Actually, it is. A couple of people PMed me when I posted this, and when I asked for an address, they never responded. Then I just sort of let it go. Send me a PM to continue the discussion

Unless things have changed at Dish, which is entirely possible, they won't activate the 211, even as a replacement. I gave one to a customer a while back....which when I turned it off I made sure to tell the CSR I wanted it freed up so another customer could use it, I was assured it was.....and when they called to swap out there's they were told it couldn't be done. Now like I said, things MIGHT HAVE CHANGED.

It hasn't changed. When I cancelled my service the other day, they told me I didn't need to return the receiver (which I already knew because I purchased it).

But in addition to that, the young man told me not to sell it, but to take it to a recycling place. The reason he gave for the advice was because 211Ks can no longer be activated.

So as far as the VIP211k goes... once grandpa dies, he's dead.
T
They tell you to trash it and not to sell simply because they're phasing them out, not particularly because someone might be "confused" into buying it and not be able to activate. They tell people that in every case where they're not acting to get a box back, either from a replacement or service cancel.
Corrado
Although my VIP211K hasn't been subscribed or connected to a dish in probably 5 years since canceling service, my 1 TB HDD full of programming still works fine.

Upon occasion I power it up to watch something I recorded as far back as 2010. The last time I had it going in September it even let me rescan the local OTA channels which I think it refused at some earlier time. I will use it until the day it fails but this topic makes me think some software download is responsible for current subscribers.

Since it hasn't been connected to a dish in that long, it probably missed the firmware update that they designed to cause the problem.
