Fta?

Im trying to get white springs tv from Galaxy 27 at 129W. im haveing no luck so i try to scan other sats for true fta and i only find 4 stations of onPPV from what i think is echo8.10. i know this is not true fta but is the only thing that comes in.im useing a Fortec ultra with a 33 inch whinguard dish with a universal lnb. i scan whith the sat info already in the reciever from factory and can;t find any fta at all. i get very little change in scale of sat meter also. any sugestions would be appreciated

Try this satellite calculator.
Install your System Locating Satellites Antenna Look Angles @ Kusat.com
Use the look angle calculator 1 for standard oval dish.
The value it calculates is true and not magnetic. Use the link in the lower right hand corner to see if you need to add or subtract to get your compass reading. Once you have your compass heading, magnetic north will be 360 deg. and south will be 180 deg. Set your board across the scale on the compass on the reading you require. This will be pointing in the direction you need to point your dish to. Also as mentioned in previous posts, this will get you close and you need to turn the dish left and right to get a signal. The markings on compasses are very small, and you can easily be out 4 or 5 degrees by how you place your board across the compass. Just remember, any metal around the compass will cause it not to point exactly at magnetic north.

Many dishes have inaccurate elevation scales stamped on the mount, you might have to SLOWLY move the dish up and down (elevation), then east-west (azimuth) until you find the signal.

I hardly ever rely on a compass, unless I'm out in the woods and there are no other dishes or landmarks to judge South by. They cause more confusion than anything else.

Larry1, i didn't understand the calculater you sugested, it only said Nan,what ever that meens. i probebly did it wrong. acording to lyngsat,the sat tracker tells me that my location is 82.32W 29.18N, azimuth is 245.15 elevation 29.18 when tracking Galaxy 27 at 129W. im in North central Florida zip 32139 if you could tell me the degree i need i would appreciate it. I do use a sat meter and scan every thing that has even a slight variation in the scale or sound and still come up blank,no hits scanning FTA only. i have only the white springs TP in my sat info for G27. i have a few of the tp's listed at lyngsat for G10R in its info. I never get anything at all on the Quatity scale when moveing the dish around. I do get blank DN channels from what probebly one of the Echo sats even with a universal lnb. so i would think that the thing is working rite.
im at a loss but still not ready to quite.

Hello, I have only read your reply today, so I am sorry I could not get the information back to you in a more timely manor. The azumith is the reading in which you point your dish. From the link of the magnetic deviation chart, you add to your azumith to get your compass heading. (from the chart in the link, it appears to add 2 degress). Different charts show different values.
For Whitesprings
Your compass heading will be 245.15 + 2 + 247.15
Your dish elevation will be 29.18
Your calculations look to be correct. Some of the others on this forum should be able to verify them as well using your zip code.
I have found G10R easier to point at, so you might want to try aiming at it first for practice.

22khz -ON- for universal

Couple of months ago, I was looking for Whitesprings on a little 20" dish with a universal LNB.
I used a compass and some nearby subscription dishes to get an idea where to point.
My test-mast was off-plumb by 20º (see first picture!).
Using a $10 signal meter, I think I found the satellite on my second try, and peaked the reading.
Not sure how 61 signal and 59 quality ranks on the meter of the Satpros 500, but reception was fine.

So, pretty much nothing above is the proper way to go about getting the signal.
The one thing I did right, was to have the 22khz tone turned on while searching.

If this map is right, you have as good a signal down in Florida, as I do in southern California.
Your bigger dish will have a little tighter beam width, so it'll be a bit more critical to aim.


PS: for dealing with the magnetic correction, I use any one of the many sat finder programs which include that correction.
So, you never have to worry about whether you add or subtract the offset.

Well, the season finale went balls to the wall. Non stop action and several twisted twists. Gary Oldman at his best. Very well written and executed. Tavener owes Jackson big time. Only "if" was Jack Lowden's (River) cliffhanger, especially admin-st the buzz that he is the next James Bond in waiting.

Another great season.

Sorry to see Flyte go. I also liked the Coe character. Sooner or later someone is going to take Taverner out. I think I will enjoy that.

I read that Lowden (River) was photographed during production of Season 8. Hopefully he will be back for 7 as well.

Hear, hear! Flyte was probably the most competent character in the show. We were also sad to see Coe come up short against the Russian operative.

Still some uncertainty about the last five minutes. The line from Lamb about "faking one's death" gives us something to think about until the next season.

Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS) - Had never heard of this but some of you might find this news story helpful

Now right up front....this is NOT intended to devolve into a "pot is good" vs "pot is bad" thread. The whole point is to make you aware of a potential problem that a person can develop when they start smoking pot at a young age. Not that they WILL, but CAN. Kinda like getting lung cancer from smoking cigs....some do, some don't. The purpose of posting this news story is to keep anyone from paying an outrageous emergency room bill......knowledge is power.
While this may not affect you, you might run into someone who is experiencing these symptoms and can share the info. Fortunately, it looks like stopping smoking is the cure and isn't a permanent condition.

What supplements have you found that really helped your overall health

Didn't see a thread like this so I figured why not start one. This is about natural supplements. If you aren't into supplements, fine, but please let those of us who do want to discuss this discuss it.

The first one I wanted to mention has been a real life changer. I'm 62 and still do all of my own install work at my business....also do all the yard work at the house. A few years ago I started noticing that I was losing my range of movement, it was even getting hard to bend over and lace up my boots. Almost got stuck in an attic because I couldn't get turned around once the work was done. Didn't think much of it and figured with age comes stiffness that was only going to get worse as time went on.
It was then that I stumbled across a video which was discussing rotator cuff tears and why they were to prevalent these days. Turns out, the culprit is a simple deficiency in MANGANESE which is key in keeping your tendons flexible. Most anti-biotics strip your body of any manganese it might have had which is why certain anti-biotics, especially those in the Cipro family. I actually knew a man who had two tendons tear while on that stuff.
Went to Amazon and ordered some manganese. Now it took a while, it wasn't instant, but gradually I have regained all of my flexibility. I can bend over and touch my toes while standing with no pain and putting on my boots is no longer a chore.
Pretty cheap too. The bottle I ordered was a 200 ct for under $13. They said to take double the normal dose for the first month because most people are severely lacking, then go to one a day.

Andy it builds your bones if I had used it in my food all my life I would not have the joint issues I have there is 3 types of calcium only the one from real foods build better bones

I have taken this stuff for years to help my joints. Over 20 yrs ago my shoulder sounded like it had gravel in it when I rotated it. Started taking this and after a few months I had my range of motion back. I mentioned this product to a doctor and told him the results I had and he totally blew it off....said it was just a coincidence. This has no shellfish like most joint supplements.

IT FIXED my wife's shoulder and knee pain, I only wish I took it before I got into Sat in 83, that beat my body up, I'm still here I turn 85 on the 31th

This would be good for me being I am allergic to shellfish. I have arthritis bad in my right sholder.

I have tried the pill form and this liquid form and found the liquid to be far superior. It wasn't immediate, my joints slowly improved over time.

Comcast called fiber pricing "irrational" because the ROI is over three years. What is irrational to me is Comcast internet is based on lines they put in the ground decades ago at this point, for the most part. Is copper that much more expensive to maintain?

yes. even copper lines in a house degrade over 70 years, I doubt coax would last that long. Fiber Optic on the isp side will last over 70 years with very dedgration

The fiber coming in to the house looks like 300 ohm old TV wire I think that is the weak point.

I thought Voyage was decent (for the first two seasons). The rest, not so much. All other shows were pretty lame, IMO. Especially Land of the Giants.

Well, the bag can't weigh that much, right? But by law food product packaging must display the actual net weight of the product, i.e., the contents of the container, so by any logic, if not law, a store's stated per-ounce cost should reflect that figure. But since there's not any law regulating shelf statements, a store can say whatever it wants without violating any rules. So I guess the answer is more consumer legislation. Or simply caveat emptor.

I would think that the Vendor/Maker of the product would have a say in it, showing the Correct weight ...
You would think it would be in the contract.

I do look at the ounces of items, but unless its way off, I don't check the math, may have to start now.

I remember when a pound of coffee was 16oz. Now its 12oz, they don't call it a pound anymore and its three times the cost of the 16oz pound.

Well, they don't call it a pound anymore ....

Ice cream is that way too, use to be a half gallon, now its 1.5 quart or some say 48 oz

The larger discrepancies are likely from a data or sync issue. Digital tags don't cause the error, but they can spread one bad entry across a whole store or region instantly. The small cent differences are probably just rounding in the weight, the price data, or both.

It's simple math. You take the price and divide by the number of ounces and come up with the price per ounce. I find it hard to believe that Walmart's computers can't carry out simple division.

The division isn't the problem, the inputs are. On the Starbucks pods, $9.22 @ $3.35/oz works out to 2.75 oz, but the box is 1.94 oz. So either the system has the wrong weight on file, or the unit price is left over from an older price of about $6.50 that never got updated. Garbage in, garbage out. Walmart's had unit-pricing data problems before, too - in 2024 they paid $1.64M to settle with New Jersey after inspectors found 2,000+ instances of unit prices using the wrong unit of measure.

Wrong unit of measure? Having a hard time believing that or were they conflating solid and fluid ounces (stupid US measuring system).

The first two coffees aren't off on the same amount, so likely the unit price is linked to some previous price. Now I have to *bleeping* double check more math? Does anyone check anything anymore? Bad enough in the professional world having to QA/QC a third party's work. Don't want to have to do that in the grocery store now too! Not with the absurd measures that are used in the US. Is that unit price for blueberries in ounces or pints...

First world problems, but man... argh!!!

Starlink Router question

I set up a music server for my brother a few years ago. It's basically a small headless computer but it needs to have a DHCP IP address reserved for it in the router settings. This was easy to do in his DSL router. He's switching to Starlink now and I was wondering if these setting are easily accessible in the Starlink router. I'm pretty sure he will be getting the latest V5 router.

If you can't get into the router to reserve an IP address just don't use DHCP on the device that needs connected and assign it to a specific IP address in the network settings.

They are not. Your best bet is to set up a third-party router, attached to the Starlink for your server, that you can get into, like a Linksys, etc

The Starlink V5 Install Kit I just got comes with the Mini Router. It is pretty limited in what it can do. For example, it can provide only one IP subnet at a time, no Guest Network, but it does support the pass-thru to a third-party Router. You can also split the Wi-Fi into separate 5 GHz & 2.4 GHz SSIDs to help some IoT devices that don't support 5 GHz bands to work.

The larger Starlink Router that still comes with the V4 Kit does support a Guest Network with separate IPv4 Subnet, but it's $120 from Starlink. And it still won't do DHCP Reservations.
