CinemaClassics-HD: Operation Eichmann **+ (1961, Doc)

Summary: What makes this movie so frightening without spectacular, graphic violence or overly righteous handwringing is demonstrating that the architects of even the most extreme forms of evil are quite human and can be urbane and even likeable. They can honestly view their workaday world of mass murder as simply a day at the office. The film "The Wansee Conference" makes the point even more effectively but isn't nearly as artful as this film since it was basically a "manufactured documentary".

The only thing that hurts the movie is the pairing of "Klink" as Eichman and "Schultz" as his chief lieutenant. Of course, this should not be criticized since the movie predates Hogan's Heroes by 4 or 5 years. The actors are actually perfectly matched for their roles and play them well, but their popular identification as the "funny" nazis of Hogan's Heroes gives the film an unintentional comical slant at times. In fact, there is a scene where Eichman is having dinner with Schultz and his wife and kids. A seemingly normal family scene with dad and his boss discussing business----in this case, how efficient Zyklon B gas is for human extermination. The "Schultz" character replies, (I kid you not) in his best Sgt Schultz voice and manner, that "the best thing about it is that you hear NOTHING you see NOTHING..." As an interesting aside, Werner Klemperer, John Banner, and the Hogan's Heroes General Burkhalter (Leon Askin, who is not in this movie) were all Jews who fled Germany and Austria.

This low budget film effectively communicates the fact that evil can easily disguise itself as business as usual.

CinemaClassics-HD: The Asphalt Jungle ***+ (1950, Crime)

6301966430.01._PE_SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg

Summary: The dark urban world of The Asphalt Jungle is one of the essential destinations in film noir, but be warned: despite tough guy Sterling Hayden's dreams of bucolic escape, there is no way out. John Huston directed this superbly calibrated crime classic, which displays his usual wry appreciation of fringies and down-and-outers. This time the task for Huston's eccentric ensemble is a jewel robbery, which--this being a Huston film--can't possibly work out as well as its plan. The cast includes Sam Jaffee, indelible as a criminal mastermind, and the pre-stardom Marilyn Monroe. Hayden plays the kind of mug he would revisit in Stanley Kubrick's The Killing, which is an informal homage to this film. And the film's look is definitive: both artful and gritty, it creates a noir landscape that traps its people just as surely as the tar pits trapped the dinosaurs. No wonder they call it noir. --Robert Horton

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Except they haven't priced out the market, the viewers are there and broadcasters are willing to pay. If Fox doesn't pay then the games will be elsewhere.
With the expansion of NFL games to Every day of the week ...

Shouldn't the Sunday Ticket be reduced in price by at least 25% ...
This doesn't make any sense.

If a Sunday sport sees a significant percentage of its games move to days other than Sunday, shouldn't there be some consideration other than "we haven't raised the price"?

It's a false premise, 25% of the games haven't left Sunday, and makes no effort to tie number of games to the price - for a sport that continues to grow / maintain it's popularity... which has helped justify increases to the package cost.

I'm all ears, I'd love to hear him justify suddenly cutting the price 25%, lol. Make it make sense. Just because a game moved from Monday to a Wednesday this year isn't it.

The game is not growing in the US. It is exceedingly popular, but it has hit the ceiling. Hence games on other continents where room for growth is much greater. So the NFL transmissions rates in the US increase like household fiber optic Internet costs increase... because they can.

And we are the ones who take the impact of it.

Ok now demonstrate that with data. If it's hit the ceiling and not declining, then where is the justification for an arbitrary 25% decrease to NFLST based on the sentiment of game inventory changes, rather than actual data? Also, maintaining popularity and demand and expanding viewership overseas aren't mutually exclusive efforts.

Isn't this when the market fights back?

Coming back to this - there is 1 fewer game in the Sunday afternoon window compared to last year. 197 down from 198. If that's a bridge too far for some then then they should absolutely speak with their wallet. Speaking personally, we're probably passing on NFLST this year, depending on the deals available - life's just busier for us and we get what we want from Red Zone 95% of the time. While I don't support the arguments as presented, I'll admit the irony that my withdrawal will feed them.

I'm not supporting an argument saying costs should go down any arbitrary amount. I'm saying the up'ing of the cost is getting a bit much and we, the actual consumer, are the ones who pay for it down the line.

This is the problem with "competition". It doesn't help the consumer in this case, it helps the *insert league*.

Ok, but I'm not disagreeing with that. All I am saying is I'm not surprised they're getting more and more for their programming, and it makes sense to maximize the value while at it's most popular - with no signs of it waning.

In response we've gotten:
- The government should largely ruin the sport by repealing the antitrust exemption because billionaires are bad - ignoring the harm it would do to both players and fans
- Drop NFLST 25% because there's 1 less game on Sundays

:what

Speaking of maximizing revenue, Fox picked up the rights to broadcast games in Mexico.

Well certainly, any product producer is going to want more money and the NFL is the franchise for programming.

And I'm quite happy they have NFL+ which allows me to watch every game commercial free and in less than an hour. I have to wait for the game to end, but that is an easy cost to absorb.

What I find odd is that I felt the whole pay a large amount for exclusive rights was a source of our higher cost. But now the NFL is diversifying the product, providing access to more services... making it more pricey for us. Networks and services are paying high premiums for splintered NFL content.

DLink only manages 27 pages.

TP-Link has only scored six pages, and they're the supposed motivation behind the router ban.

Thought this was neat, been chatting w/ Claude (Sonnet v4.6) off and on for a while about some DIY solar / power management stuff I am thinking about doing at home. It offered to do some math for me, and instead of just giving me the answer it made a full fledged calculator to compare these products that are somewhat apples to oranges in function.

This was a fun exercise, I vibe coded a fix to a pet peeve of mine, and it just went live in the Chrome Web Store. My first Chrome extension.

Basically when you want to search youtube from a google search result, you have to click Tools and then Sources and then Youtube. I just surfaced those filters (just this static list of them) when you are on the videos tab, and added options for the style to be like Google or the buttons.

Was kind of neat going through it all, setting up a github repo for some things to live, paying the $5 to get the Chrome Developer account and then resubmitting it a couple times for approval as I navigated some things there (inadvertent keyword stuffing because I listed the filters, and I was asking for too many permissions on accident because of some things I was trying in an earlier version I think)

Did anyone have a price increase today on their equipment? I own my VIP211k's, and they have been $5.00. My bill that I received last week shows the "add-ons" as being $5.00. However, I just logged into my Dish account, and my "add-ons" are now $10.00. Did the additional receivers go up by $5.00 recently?

As I mentioned, my last bill shows $5.00 and under the notes, nothing is mentioned about a price increase.

I just got notice of my July bill, going up by over $60.
Probably my 2 year just lapsed.

Sent an email to my dish contact. Hopefully he can get it back down.
I'd like to stay with dish mostly because it's easy to use for my tech challenged wife, but also for some of the cool features, like PIP and MultiView.

I also have access to YouTube TV through a family plan, which I use sometimes.
That could be the fallback if the price can't get down to my current level, although training my wife to use that may be too much to ask. 😬

To put it in perspective.... She can't figure out how to connect to Wi-Fi on her iPhone unless I help her. This is for saved profiles! 🤦‍♂️

She will look at the cellular signal display on the phone...."See... I only have one bar on Wi-Fi!"
Me: Honey that's not Wi-Fi, that's your cellular connection. (Shows her how to connect, and look at the Wi-Fi display....)

A few hours later....
"See... I only have one bar on Wi-Fi!"

Another few hours later....

Have you had her checked for dementia by chance? Or is this just typical woman tech challenged. My wife is tech challenged like a mother. I can show her how to use something and she will yell at me across the house my phone won't connect to the wifi! Show her again and the same thing the very next day. My aunt is 11 years older than me and she is also tech challenged. I hated getting phone calls from out of state from her saying my computer is messed up what do I do? I said stop using one. So she bought an expensive lap top and still can't figure out how to use it. Some people you can't help. You just have to be their ongoing tech support.

My Joey 4 is installed on a bedroom tv.

The diamond buttons had been reset.

I thought this was unusual.

I had to reprogram the double diamond button for PIP which I watch.

No problem.

PIP feature on the Joey 4 had been used to watch two channels at once which I thought was the limitation being only two channels vs.Hopper 3's multi-view four channels.

This time when I selected the PIP feature I noticed an option for Multi-View?

Could this be?

Yes it could.

This software update does this.

Multi-view PIP (4 channels) Is Now Available on Joey 4.

This is freaking awesome and very surprising!!!

Very wonderful for me.

Unfortunately do to NDA's I can't discuss beta features until they are released to the public. But lets just say the DISH team is doing some amazing work. :)

Just ordered two Wireless Joey 4s to replace my 4KJs. Was offered a no-contract or a 12-month contract with a $10.00 reduced monthly bill, no activation fee, and free shipping. They are sending out an installer even though I asked to do it myself. Very pleased with the Dish rep I worked with.
Thank you to the OP for bringing this information about JOEY 4 MULTI-VIEW to my attention and to the members here at Satellite Guys.

Received this e-mail 3 days ago... At the bottom, it says limited to one Multi-view session per household. How does it work if someone had Hopper 3, Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus, Wired Joey 4 and a Wireless Joey 4 for example? Can they all do Multi-view session at the same time?

Recently had a Hopper 3 installed and noticed that I have a green bar at the top of my screen, also occasionally a thin green line on the right side. I have tried switching hdmi ports on the tv as well as different cables. My only thought is that it is the age of the TV. Thoughts and suggestions?

Tried the Adjust Screen settings and the green bar was still present. Did have a random day when the green bar was gone, but it came back. Did look at the TV setting and found I could stretch the screen a little where the green bar was gone, but it does cut off things across the edges of the picture slightly. Likely will start shopping for a new TV as mine is close to 20 years old and the Dis Remote doesn't seem to like the TV.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

I suggest you get an LG Oled 4k TV. You will love the picture on this thing from all angles in the room. The picture is the best I've seen ever. I have the B 3 series 55 inch TV and it was on sale in the fall of 2024 for like $749.00 - because they sell off their older models when they reach end of year.

I even bought one for my parents. They had a huge living room and sit at the weirdest angles with their furniture and the viewing angle was a problem using just about any TV we tried, but not with the LG Oled Tv. They love the picture. Walmart sells them and so does Amazon.
