Dish Pro Digital Twin LNBF - Check Switch = XXXX

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Current Setup:
Receiver: DP510
Software: P369
Dish: Directtv
Lnb Device: DP-Single
1 single 100 foot rg6 coax cable swept to 3 GHZ directly from lnb to receiver
Signal strength ranges from 120 to 124 on any given day

(Yes I currently rigged a dishnet lnb to a directtv dish pointed at 119...works for me!)

Currently in the Check Switch menu it says:
Input: 1
Satellite: 119
Polarity: ALL
Device: Sgl
Status: Satellite reception verified

A little background about my setup and me:
I am VERY technical, as such very capable, so please…take off the kid gloves with me.
I am VERY NEW to this hobby so I do not know abbreviations or the lingo'

Here are my questions:
1) I received from a friend a dish 500 complete with a Dish Pro Digital Twin LNBF (P/N 150782 Lot# C208) and when I hooked it up all I got in the Check Switch was XXXX…WHY?
2) Do I need a valid signal first before the switch check will work?
3) This is not as important as question 1 or 2 but what the heck is a spot beam channel and why don't I get them?

I do not know the difference between dual, twin, plus, legacy. Basically this thing looks like on the front it has a big logo sticker that says Dish Pro, looking at the lnb's I see another sticker that says Dish Pro Digitial LNBF with the part and lot # on it. And It has 2 female f connectors on it, and in metal they are etched 1 and 2 respectively

Here is what I tried:
I tried getting a signal for about 30 minutes and gave up, I didn't think it should be that hard since every time I hooked up my smaller dish with a single lnb, it never took more than 45 seconds to find a signal!

I took a volt meter out there and had my wife change transponders and at the end of the 100 foot cable I DO get the 2 correct voltages.

I took off the Twin LNB, took it in my house, and took a 3 foot cable, hooked it up to my receiver and to the lnb's, ran a check switch and still got XXXX.

What the hell am I doing wrong?

Considering that you have a DishPro receiver and a DishPro Twin LNB, your 3 foot test setup should reveal the following result:

Conn | Conn
X | X
DPTWin | DPTwin

It should only be doing a 2 step test: 1 of 2, 2 of 2

In any circumstance, the DP receiver you have should recognize the DP switch (LNB) that you have, regardless of whether you have a satellite signal or not. If the switch result is not identifying the LNB you have, then you have a bad receiver, bad cable, or bad LNB. Isolate the problem by swapping one part at a time. Try a different receiver, try a different cable, try a different DishPro LNB.
If it is doing a 38 step test or some other long series of tests, then you probably have a bad LNB or the receiver is bad. The 38 step tests are for older LNBs that are not DishPro.

If your result is

|x|x|x|x| then your receiver is doing a legacy switch test and is not communicating with the LNB.

NOT! If he is not getting a signal from any satellite, he will get exactly what he is getting; a bunch of "XXX."

Overheating?

Your LNB might be having drift problems. Give DISH a call and ask them to send a replacement for you. Have you checked the diagnostic screen yet to see how much drift you have?

with no sat signal its all xxxx GINGER--swap your rcvrs the run a checkswitch test by going to the menu -6-1-1- checkswitch then test see if the issue follows the rcvr or stays in the room that will determine if its the box or the sat feed ---dish network TSR III

Legacy systems won't identify the LNB types but an all DP system will regardless of whether signal is present.

Good Morning. I have just joined here and am also looking for some help. I took my 522 from home and was trying to set it up in my Motor Home in Dallas. I live in Canton, Tx. I bought a Dish 500 from Dish and first tried my single receiver (don't know number on it as of now) and found the satillites fine. But when I hook up my 522 I cannot find a signal of any kind. I think it has something to do with the switch but I can't run a switch test because I cannot get a signal. I have tried 3 times at about 2 hours each. I suppose the dish on my house is different than the one I bought. I just don't have any other ideas. Thanks in advance for your help. Don

DISH Terminates all Distributers

I am hearing a rumor that this morning DISH canned all of their equipment distributers. All Distributers will remain active until December 31st. Dish Retailers will start getting their equipment directly from DISH moving forward.

Some of these folks have been with DISH since the beginning.

It will be interesting to see where DISH goes from here.

Good question. In my case the choice was very easy to go with Dow vs Dish direct. I became a dealer in 1999. Dow had a location up in Albany, GA and had a delivery truck that ran every week. They charged something like $25 flat rate. I saved thousands of dollars...probably tens of thousands, because back in the day, I was doing 30-50 installs per month. Then you add in DishNet internet and the savings on shipping REALLY added up fast. If some type of emergency happened I could drive up there in under 2 hrs.
Even after they closed that location due to shrinking dealer orders, it was still better going with Dow because they shipped from either Duluth, GA or Tampa, FL, either one got the order here the next day.

Years ago, I was sitting in a Carl Jrs in Duluth, MN having a coffee and morning biscuit.
The driver of an 18 wheeler walked in and asked me if I could help him find an address.
He was pulling a load of dog food from Dallas, TX.

He was looking for a location on Peach Street as I recall.

Told him there is no Peach Street.
He shows me his papers and it has Duluth, GA as the city.

There is as I just looked it up. Granada, Minnesota has one. There is no Peach Street in Duluth, Georgia either as the closest would be Peachtree which exists in several types of streets.

Hopefully he learned to be more careful in the future as it was probably a very expensive mistake in both time and money costs just like there is a difference between Portland, Oregon and Portland, Maine and at least in the current age, look up the complete street address with the city, state and zipcode to make sure it exists.

I'm a NASA Astrophysicist so I learn about new things and curiosity kills. Believe me, if I didn't comment, I wouldn't have learned something new.

When Duluth was mentioned, the first thing that came to mind was Duluth Trading Company which originated from Duluth, MN. I was curious if GA actually had a Peach St as I remember back in the 1990s or 2000s, there was a company called Peachtree Software. I know even before there the iPhone, people used to use a notebook and software to do maps. Truckers had always used NaviSat, can't remember the exact name of the company for their mapping over 20+ years ago which is where Google Maps and other companies originally bought/licenses their maps/maps data from for routes.

Peachtree St. is a major Atl. thoroughfare...changes over to Peachtree Rd. at Buckhead.

Thinking back today on dist's, they were, and presumably still are, essential for all of the various installation and servicing supplies, as well as ancillary consumer products. Echo never carried all of that, but most all of the dist's did, from their inception into C-band. Thus it only made sense for them to partner with dists in supplying dealers to well serve sat customers.

I asked Google how many streets in Atlanta had "peach" in the name...it came back with 71...which stands to reason. GA is called The Peach State. Even the toll system is called Peach Pass.
A lot of towns in our area of the SE have a Peach St....also buttload of Orange St. as well.

Near me in North-Central Indiana, there is a Peach Road, Peach Trail, Peachtree Lane, and Peachstone Drive. Twenty miles to the east is the nearest Peach Street. Likewise, there are a number of Peach St in Southwest Michigan, too.

So, maybe we have a strong Southern contingent?

I figured that the whole "hand not recognized" control system snafu was going to be the spark that Pike used to eliminate all the capacitive devices on Enterprise, bringing back physical switches and knobs. But nope, all a dream, so unless Spock can convince the rest of the crew that they need to convert to physical controls based on his nightmare, this isn't the trigger.

OTA no working after Update

My OTA is not working anymore. This started after the latest update. I have the OTA dongle with a OTA antenna that I've been using for years. My hopper does not recognize the dongle anymore and when I go to the OTA setting, it has a screen that says to plug a dongle into the USB. I tried unplugging and plugging back, in the same usb port and other ports. The Hopper does not recognize it. Anyone have same issue?

Why can't DISH send out replacement ota tuners for 2 ota channels at a time and get rid of the single ota tuner? That seems to be the best way to fix it , unless they have a software fix that can be downloaded quicker. But, I haven't seen things fixed that quickly before - when I had a software problem that broke something.

Maybe the replacements would not be cost effective for DISH. I thought H711 was a quick fix for something as it came out shortly after H710 did and ofcourse broke something else.

That is why I am always hesitant to do a software update on something like my iPhone.....I usually wait a few days just to make sure it didn't turn out to be a turdware update.

My hws downloaded h611 this a.m.
Had to rescan ota channels and reset several settings. Also lost remote info on diagnostic screen. Haven't checked the 2nd hws or the wireless Joey's but expecting the same

I just purchased the dual OTA adapter from Amazon. It arrived in two days and was new in sealed Dish packaging. I replaced my original single tuner with this newer version, and everything works. I now have OTA again on the Dish guide. I have a Hopper-3. My best reasoning is that the latest update, #711, somehow corrupted the old original tuner. I researched the problem on this forum and I'm glad I did not have to call a repair man. Old parts fail, and sometimes are not supported anymore. My new dual OTA adapter works. Check out Amazon…I'm a Happy Hopper!

From what I've heard, Burke was hard on the back.

And speaking of hard on the back, the word "bumpy" is being brought up regarding the course in DC. Passing... one, maybe two spots. They are doing 147 laps on this course. Rain totals have dropped, but still well over half an inch. Same window for rain. Radar for forecast implies blobs of small storms to pop up. Raceday weather is looking pleasant.

Despite the doom-to-gloom prognostications, across all classes the practice sessions, qualifying, and races, virtually every thing went off without a hitch. By every measurable metric, it was both an amazing and completely successful day, particularly given Jeff Gordon's IROC dominance and performance. Tomorrow should be fun.

It rained a lot, just not directly in DC. That was luck.

Markham had quite a bit of great drama for the practice qualifying, but the racing fell flat. Same thing is lining up here. The issue is going to be the passing. There are very very wide straights, but the bumps are going to limit the lines entering into turns. And with this being 147 laps, if passing can't happen, it could be devastatingly boring. The opening lap is up in the air. The drivers "behaved" at Markham, but again, the bumps put in a wildcard regarding someone just losing their car at random with too many other cars around them. Also, that exit out of the pits is something else.

There could be intrigue with several pit strategies. We'll see. The weather is clear and warm, but not super hot. Drivers will feel it though with the race length, which could get worse if there are a bunch of yellows. I'm kind of pulling for Grosjean winning, a French man to represent who helped the US claim their Independence.

As it turned out, the forecasted rain was a completely nonexistent factor during the weekend as absolutely all of the races were exciting and competitive.

The setting was well beyond awesome, with virtually all participants expressing both their amazement with, and their appreciation of, the venue and their overall experience.

All in all, this was a very good racing weekend for all who appreciate the same.

Switch to Joey4?

I have been a DISH customer for over almost 30 years. My main problem is that I bought a 4K Joey that no longer recieves 4k (because they changed to 4K HDR which the 4K joey doesn't accept. Is anyone have the Joey4 and could you tell me how you like the interface compared to the regular non android interface that the old Joeys and Hopper have? Please help!!!

There is absolutely no reason to drop the 2nd H3 to get a Hopper plus the second H3 will work just like it does now. You just need to go through retention to do it you can't go through a normal CSR.

Might just buy the joey 4 from solid signal and not have to deal with the dish twits other than activating it

You don't need a Hopper Plus. The reason why they want you to have one is so all your TV's have the same interface.

With that said now that Multiview is available there is no reason not to get a Hopper Plus as it is a very good product now.

Anyone have a spare motor to sell or any suggestions?

I got me a 36 inch geosat dish, now I need a motor. If anyone has one for sale i am interested. I seen some online, but would the dm 2800 be too big for the geosat 36 inch dish? It says it ia for 1.2 meters.

Has Dish nixed offers?

I have noticed the offers are blank right now under my programming. Maybe it is because I haven't paid for Showtime for 6 or so months because they keep offering it for free, or I'm on and off a lot with the Movie Pack at half off. However, I'm surprised the rest of the Flex pack offers are gone as well. Is Dish shifting from these offers or did I hit a threshold of I've gotten my fair share?

Well, this year some of the offers I had last year were there last week and gone today. Cookies/incognito did not help this time. I had not considered using the Hopper itself to manage the account as mentioned in the post just above. When I went there, ALL the usual offers were present - the 6 I can see on the web site and the few others that were missing from the web site. Thanks Conway for the reminder

Yeah - they redo the offers the day they update the new pricing... I no longer get the option for DogTV free for a month. They are really tightening up!

When they chopped my tv off without my permission. they lost all the offers on my hopper. now if i call in they have these offers. why haven't they downloaded back onto the hopper? id'e prefer not to call em and just use my remote :biggrin

. And has anyone else tried calling in and seeing what they have for offers might be worth a shot!!!

Just out of curiosity but where can one find these offers on the hopper?

I called in to dish. Goto the my dish app on your hopper or joey select it then scroll over to my offers and that will tell you your offers if you have any.
