dish network SUCKS
NOTE, THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT HAPPENED TO ME, IT IS A COPY AND PASTE FROM A CRAIGSLIST POST HENCE THE LINK ABOVE.
i have been a customer for many years and been happy with your service but due to recent actions i will make sure that i tell everyone i know how you treat your loyal customers!

i lived on the bolivar peninsula and everything we owned was wiped out in hurricane ike. our house, our family heirlooms, clothes, furniture, & everything else we worked for 42 years is GONE!!! i am very sorry that in my haste of evacuating i did not take my dish receiver. it was not that i didn't care about your precious equipment, i just thought that taking my 13 year old border collie and my two cats took precedence.

after the hurricane struck i called your company to cancel my service. your representative strongly suggested that i just transfer my service to the house that i was and currently staying at. i told her that i did not think that i had line of sight since it is a very wooded lot. she said that the technicians might be able to find a spot and that if they could not that my contract would be cancelled.
i also explained to her that i did not have my equipment and that it was lost along with my ENTIRE house. We rented the property and did not have renters insurance or could not file it with any other insurance. she stated that i would not be charged for the lost equipment. she also stated that they would bring a replacement set of equipment when the technicians came out.

when the technicians came they stated that i had no line of sight and that a second technician would come out to verify this. several days later i received a phone call from YOUR representative and that the second technician came out and that he confirmed that i did not have a line of site. she said that i would be released from my contract. i confirmed once again that i would not be charged for the lost equipment.
on october 23rd i again called to confirm that my account had been cancelled and that i would not be charged for the equipment and was told that my contract had been cancelled and my equipment charge had been waived. this was the last contact i had with your company.

imagine my surprise when i looked at my online statement for my credit card had been charged for $501.00. i did not have my credit card on file with your company, not set up for automatic payment, and had not authorized any charges on my credit card. luckily it was declined! i then called the customer service line and spoke to a very unconcerned man that said that my service had been terminated on november 15th due to nonpayment and that i needed to return your equipment.

i once again explained that i did not have your equipment and that i had cancelled my account and the equipment charge had been waived. he said that they had no record of my account being cancelled, you had no record of a second technician coming out to verify the line of sight issue, and no record of my equipment charge being waived, and no record of anyone calling me.

i once again tried to call and talk to your customer service department today three times!!! i was disconnected once, told that i could not talk to a supervisor, and told that i have no recourse in this matter.

i have also talked to other people affected by hurricane ike and were also charged (unauthorized) for equipment fees after they were told they were waived. if this is how you treat your loyal customers when they have had their entire life gone then i will make it my personal conquest to repost this letter to as many people as i can. maybe, just maybe, it will make someone think twice before signing up for your wonderul service.
thanks also for the box that i received by ups this afternoon so that i could return your equipment. if i lend you my snorkle and flippers you are more than welcome to try and find your precious equipment. i suggest first looking around goat island in galveston bay.

Not the first time this has happened as a result of a hurricane or other naturaul disaster.

Petty, minor improvements, for such a long period.

You forgot that during the post-war period space travel was developed. The transistor. The computer. CNC machines. Satellites. Large-scale agriculture. Appliances. Plastics. The interstate highway system. The public library system.

All unbelievably radical developments before their time, which you unthinkingly take for granted today, and which make modern life possible. In fact much of this wouldn't ever happen in today's environment, as 'too socialistic'. But it was those conditions and limited regulation, which made America great. And deregulation and transfer of risk to the individual (who especially today can least afford to carry it) is bringing us down.

Let me tell you son, the innovators and thinkers can only produce in top form when they feel safe. And no one feels safe today, deny that. Fundamental breakthroughs can only happen when basic research is supported. And almost no basic research has been supported for twenty years.

You have no idea.

Okie dokie pops! You're right, I guess I don't know. You forgot about the caveman inventing the wheel! It is just silly to think that innovation has slowed since the "old days". You might not be a part of the innovation that is going on in today's world, but it is happening everyday. BTW, I can't believe your using the internet, on your PC, on a satellite dish forum that provides hundreds of channels with the latest video technology and still say nothing significant has happened in the last 2 decades. Medical advancements, which a man of your age probably utilize are far greater than the mid 1900's. The list goes on and on. I think you're the one who is taking things for granted...actually, you probably don't take them for granted, you just disagree with the free market way of providing goods and services that have given us these advancements.
Q

Oh so you think we have a Free Market... this explains alot.

Apparently you haven't noticed that that computer system you are pounding on is a monopoly. Your satellite service is a monopoly. And automakers are an oligopoly, as are most other industries today. As the Strong get stronger, they do not encourage competition... they use their strength to crush it. This is what happens with no regulation. The only possible mathematical end result is one provider for everything, your car, your job, your food, your entertainment. Piss off McDonaldsGMSonyKrogerFluorExxonLowesCitibank, and you lose your car, your house, your job, everything, in the same day.

Your kind of 'free market' has resulted in the most massive transfer of wealth in the history of the world, from the US taxpayers, to the wealthiest 1%. Our Treasury is now $10.5 TRILLION in debt. Since you have no idea how much money that is, let me help you; divide that by the US population, and that works out to $35,000 for each man, woman, and child in the nation!! On top of all their personal debt!

Have you taken a little of that Personal Responsibility and paid your share yet, of this debt you've so vociferously advocated for, chikagobnd?

Thought not.

All talk, and no walk.

I pay it every two weeks...to fund all the BS government programs you love so much. Believe me, I would love to get rid of all the government spending that goes on to put us in such a position. Just like I'm paying all this money into social security for you to sit around and drink the Kool-Aid when I'll never see a dime of it. Enjoy it! BTW, that top 1 percent you talk about takes in about 18% of total personal income and pays 28% of the total federal income tax. That's according the Congressional Budget Office. They are paying more than their fair share. And also, you talk about the poor people with all their personal debt. Here's a thought...spend what you have, and don't spend what you don't. Pretty simple. Quantam, you are so pompous with your arguments, yet you don't seem to have a real grasp on how things work. Older doesn't always mean wiser.

Now this is hilarious. The poorest of the poor, defending the top 1%, vociferously advocating against his own best interests!

How incredibly ignorant!

No, by paying your share I don't mean your regular taxes. That's for ongoing operations. I'm asking whether you've paid your fair share of the debt! Actually your fair share would include my share because I have been fighting this massive Republican debt buildup which you've been supporting, from the beginning.

No little pagwan, little do you know, that you paid more taxes last year than Rupert Murdoch! Look it up.

No, what's ignorant is that you base your philosophy on life on what has the most benefit to you, rather than each doing what they have to do to be successful. You are an extremely jealous person, that is obvious. You're upset that there are a bunch of people out there who make a lot of money because they were either smarter than you, or have talents that you don't possess. I don't fault those people for being successful and wanting to continue to be that way. The only thing I advocate is personal responsibility, limited government and free markets. The only way that can be detrimental to me is if I don't take advantage of opportunities that are available to me, and everyone else for that matter. So, maybe the free market system doesn't benefit you...if that's the case, that's your problem, not mine.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

You have no idea who I am nor what I've done, obviously.

Yeah, you gourd head and take advantage of opportunities that are available to you, Mr. Janitor. Lessee how that works out for you.

For some reason, the satelliteguys.us site is loading a lot slower than usual on both Chrome on my Asus laptop and Safari on my iPhone.
I'm also seeing longer appearances of the blue bar at the top and the "3 blue bars" loading symbol.
Is anyone else also having the same problem? Thanks in advance.

Scott, I was having major issues getting connected around noon ET. Looks fine now. I captured a Safari session that was showing high CPU utilization in the Rendering of the page, like 90+%. I have a JSON file I created that I could share.

Been using the site at that time and saw no issues. A quick look at the logs shows nothing strange.
Foxbat
Yeah. It's probably something going on with the MacBook as my iPhone has been pretty snappy.

I just received 6 receiver 2 port mini Multiswitch and it work great, no external power need it, and you can connect 6 receiver instead of 4 on most Mini Multiswitches... If anyone is interested in where they can get one PM me....

Have you tested using external power? Over the years, have found unpowered polarity switching to be unreliable. Especially problematic when used with DiSEqC motors or switch stacking.
H
No I have not. I just got it the other day and it is connected to six receivers working just fine. What I do is non power mini multi-switches work best with LNBF's and with LNB's

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Just had a customer come in inquiring about internet. He has HughesNet and had heard good things about mine. He asked if we provided email addresses and it kinda caught me off guard. I said he should be able to keep whatever email he had been using....my sister in law is still using a BellSouth email addy and they haven't been around here for many years. He said he had gotten a letter from HughesNet stating that they had until Nov 16th to save, move, forward, whatever, their Hughesnet emails because they would lose them after that date.

I have never heard of a company simply mass-deleting email accounts (the customer still has his HughesNet service). From what I understand, in the past, the company who was ditching their email service simply sold the customer base to a company like Google.

Anyone else getting this letter. He said he would show it to me tomorrow when I go out there and set up his internet.

Doing a Google of the HughesNet Email notice, it seems that HughesNet has been trying to eliminate hosting emails since 2019. And with HughesNet filing Chapter 11 back in August, it would be a smart move to switch to a more stable Email provider. Even AT&T farmed out their Email to Yahoo! years ago.

SpaceX's Starlink and the Cellular 5G Home Internet solutions have pretty much relegated HughesNet and its high latency, low bandwidth Internet service to History. If Earth had shorter days, maybe a Geostationary Internet Solution might have stood a fighting chance…

Can't help but wonder if a worker overlooked checking the harness. I rarely ride a roller coaster anymore but when I do I check the harness myself pretty aggressively.
Can't imagine what the son is going through.

Back on the Goliath Roller Coaster ... I'm interested to find more details as well ...
Like where on the track did this happen (somewhere I read that it was on the climb up the top), which is impossible ...

They really need to take that ride and add at the very least, seatbelts ...

The Park is opening back up on Friday, the ride will Not be opening ... personally, I would keep it closed until different type of restraints can be designed and installed (over the winter).

I find it hard to believe that this ride is even allowed to be running with the restraints that exist at the moment, there are other rides that use the same type and they have been shut down across the country.

You got to believe that every ride has at least 2 types of restraint systems in place.

I wonder what and when we will hear from the Manufacturer ... and whatever governing bodies control these ...

Just think, this is a Major Amusement Park .... I would not have any problem getting on the Roller Coasters I have rode ...

Imagine what these County Fairs and others like them, I would not be caught Dead on one of them ... they get put up and tore down every other week, where is the safety for those rides ... No Thank You.

The first roller coaster I ever road was one of those. I was terrified but I was with my friends and didn't want to wuss out. While in line I kept looking at the guys running the ride.....few teeth, not that bright looking....I just KNEW my life was over.

Had no idea there were that many redundancies built into those restraints.

Had no idea there were that many redundancies built into those restraints.
It makes sense, however, I would want more types of restraints, so if one doesn't work, the other does ... the restraints coming over the shoulder I would have expected ... with a Seat belt as last resort.

Fwiw, I inquired with what they use on Coasters at Cedar Point, various Coasters, different restraints according to what the car and track requires ...

NONE of the Coasters at CP use THAT particular system :)
I'm glad to see ...

I bought the fixed color version of these bulbs for my store several years ago...work great and no more replacing ballast. Finally had one go out and when I went back to Amazon I saw that now they come in selectable versions so no more guess work as to what color light would do best in a certain area. They are now double OR single ended...used to be strictly one way or the other. If any of you are looking at replacing the old style 4 or 8 ft bulbs, you might want to give these a try. The 8 footers are BRIGHT. I put 5 in my shooting/target shed and you can get a decent tan if you are in there long enough.

When we re-lamped my in-Laws' house for sale last year, we were able to get all the Edison bulbs and a few fixtures with switch-selectable Color Temperature. We tried a few and settled on 3000°K as the best fit for the house. Matching the lighting in all the rooms made for an inviting experience. The Shop was the only place that we went with 4000°K for the LED 4' fixtures.

The house was sold within a month of going on the market, so we must have done something right.

The other advantage is if the new owners decide that they prefer a warmer light, they can unscrew the bulbs (I think it was close to 70 bulbs) and set them to the 2500K/2700K settings.

I'll have to check these out. Thanks!
