Copied from the recently released 10-K:

EchoStar I, a 7000 class satellite, designed and manufactured by Lockheed Martin Corporation ("Lockheed"), is currently
functioning properly in orbit. However, similar Lockheed Series 7000 class satellites have experienced total in-orbit failures, including our own EchoStar II, discussed below. While no telemetry or other data indicates EchoStar I would be expected to experience a similar failure, Lockheed
has been unable to conclude these and other Series 7000 satellites will not experience similar failures. EchoStar I, which is fully depreciated, can
operate up to 16 transponders at 130 watts per channel. During prior years, the satellite experienced anomalies resulting in the possible loss of
two solar array strings. The anomalies have not impacted commercial operation of the satellite to date. Even if permanent loss of the two solar
array strings is confirmed, the satellite is not expected to be impacted since it is equipped with a total of 104 solar array strings, only
approximately 98 of which are required to assure full power.

EchoStar II. During July 2008, our EchoStar II satellite experienced a failure that rendered the satellite a total loss. EchoStar II had been
operating primarily as a back-up satellite, but had provided local network channel service to Alaska and six other small markets. All
programming and other services previously broadcast from EchoStar II were restored to Echostar I within several hours after the failure. The
$6 million book value of EchoStar II was written-off during the third quarter 2008.

EchoStar V. EchoStar V was originally designed with a minimum 12-year design life. Momentum wheel failures in prior years, together with
relocation of the satellite between orbital locations, resulted in increased fuel consumption, as previously disclosed. In addition, to date, EchoStar
V has experienced anomalies resulting in the loss of 13 solar array strings. These issues have not impacted commercial operation of the satellite.
However, during 2005, as a result of the momentum wheel failures and the increased fuel consumption, we reduced the remaining estimated
useful life of the satellite. As of October 2008, EchoStar V was fully depreciated.

EchoStar VII . During 2006, EchoStar VII experienced an anomaly which resulted in the loss of a receiver. Service was quickly restored
through a spare receiver. These receivers process signals sent from our uplink center for transmission back to earth by the satellite. The design
life of the satellite has not been affected and the anomaly is not expected to result in the loss of other receivers on the satellite. However, there
can be no assurance future anomalies will not cause further receiver losses which could impact the useful life or commercial operation of the
satellite. In the event the spare receiver placed in operation following the 2006 anomaly also fails, there would be no impact to the satellite's
ability to provide service to CONUS when operating in CONUS mode. However, we would lose one-fifth of the spot beam capacity when
operating in spot beam mode.

EchoStar X . EchoStar X was designed with 49 spot beams which use up to 42 active 140 watt traveling wave tube amplifiers ("TWTAs") to
provide standard definition and HD local channels and other programming to markets across the United States. During January 2008, the satellite
experienced an anomaly which resulted in the failure of one solar array circuit out of a total of 24 solar array circuits, approximately 22 of which
are required to assure full power for the original minimum 12-year design life of the satellite. The design life of the satellite has not been
affected. However, there can be no assurance future anomalies will not cause further losses, which could impact commercial operation of the
satellite or its useful life.

EchoStar III . EchoStar III was originally designed to operate a maximum of 32 DBS transponders in CONUS at approximately 120 watts per
channel, switchable to 16 transponders operating at over 230 watts per channel, and was equipped with a total of 44 TWTAs to provide
redundancy. As a result of past TWTA failures only 18 transponders are currently available for use. Due to redundancy switching limitations and
specific channel authorizations, we can only operate on 15 of our FCC authorized frequencies at the 61.5 degree location. While we do not
expect a large number of additional TWTAs to fail in any year, and the failures have not reduced the original minimum 12-year design life of the
satellite, it is likely that additional TWTA failures will occur from time to time in the future, and such failures could further impact commercial
operation of the satellite.

EchoStar IV. EchoStar IV was originally designed to operate a maximum of 32 DBS transponders in CONUS at approximately 120 watts per
channel, switchable to 16 transponders operating at over 230 watts per channel. As a result of past TWTA failures, only six transponders are
currently available for use. There can be no assurance that further material degradation, or total loss of use, of EchoStar IV will not occur in the
immediate future.

EchoStar VI. EchoStar VI, which is being used as an in-orbit spare, was originally equipped with 108 solar array strings, approximately 102 of
which are required to assure full power availability for the operational life of the satellite. Prior to 2008, EchoStar VI experienced anomalies
resulting in the loss of 22 solar array strings, reducing the number of functional solar array strings to 86. Although the operational life of the
satellite has not been affected, commercial operability has been reduced. The satellite was designed to operate 32 DBS transponders in CONUS
at approximately 125 watts per channel, switchable to 16 transponders operating at approximately 225 watts per channel. The power reduction
resulting from the solar array failures currently limits us to operation of a maximum of 25 transponders in standard power mode, or 12
transponders in high power mode. The number of transponders to which power can be provided is expected to decline in the future at the rate of
approximately one transponder every three years.

EchoStar VIII . EchoStar VIII was designed to operate 32 DBS transponders in CONUS at approximately 120 watts per channel, switchable to
16 transponders operating at approximately 240 watts per channel. EchoStar VIII also includes spot-beam technology. This satellite has
experienced several anomalies since launch, but none have reduced the operational life. However, there can be no assurance that future
anomalies will not cause further losses which could materially impact its commercial operation, or result in a total loss of the satellite.

EchoStar IX. EchoStar IX was designed to operate 32 FSS transponders in CONUS at approximately 110 watts per channel, along with
transponders that can provide services in the Ka-Band (a "Ka-band payload"). The satellite also includes a C-band payload which is owned by a
third party. Prior to 2008, EchoStar IX experienced anomalies resulting in the loss of three solar array strings and the loss of one of its three
momentum wheels, two of which are utilized during normal operations. A spare wheel was switched in at the time. These anomalies have not
impacted the commercial operation of the satellite.

EchoStar XII. EchoStar XII was designed to operate 13 DBS transponders at 270 watts per channel in CONUS mode, or 22 spot beams using a
combination of 135 and 65 watt TWTAs. We currently operate the satellite in spot beam/CONUS hybrid mode. EchoStar XII has a total of 24
solar array circuits, approximately 22 of which are required to assure full power for the original minimum operational life of the satellite. Prior to
2008, eight solar array circuits on EchoStar XII have experienced anomalous behavior resulting in both temporary and permanent solar array
circuit failures. Although the design life of the satellite has not been affected, these circuit failures have resulted in a reduction in power to the
satellite which will preclude us from using the full complement of transponders on EchoStar XII for the operational life of the satellite.

AMC-14. In connection with the Spin-off, we distributed our AMC-14 satellite lease agreement with SES Americom ("SES") to EchoStar with
the intent to lease the entire capacity of the satellite from EchoStar. During March 2008, AMC-14 experienced a launch anomaly and failed to
reach its intended orbit. SES subsequently declared the AMC-14 satellite a total loss due to a lack of viable options to reposition the satellite to
its proper geostationary orbit. We did not incur any financial liability as a result of the AMC-14 satellite being declared a total loss.

Parts I found interesting were the failures on E12 and E10. Looks like E12 can't use all its spotbeams at once due to some solar array failures.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Hmmm. Reason to get another toy for the KitchenAid.

Is it cheaper than store bought?

Is fresh or dried sage used?

So do you use the plastic or metal sausage grinder? I'm assuming you use a mixer. I'm looking at attachments for my Kitchenaid.

Mixed 1 lb pork same way, tested about 4 hours later, both good.
Meal prepped scrambled egg bowls with both and stashed in fridge, had beef version this morning… Good mix.

It has been years since I had some good country breakfast sausage. Each time I find some at a meat market I try it, but I go back to ordinary Jimmy Dean's breakfast sausage. My last try was from Fresh Market. For some reason it always ended up hard like they did not have enough fat in it.

I don't think Tim and Tony are that far apart in Age ...

Remember what Tony said to Tim when they first got back together ...
Tony said: I am the New Tony, Tim .... (something to that effect)

Tony has changed, he's been running his Security Business ... I'm sure he has grown up.

Give it time ... your judging the New Tony from the old Tony.

It sounds like Tim won't be around the Team much longer either.

For quite a while now, people with a VIP211k have been losing their recordings on their activated external HDDs... even when there's nothing physically wrong with HDD. I believe this is an intentional and underhanded tactic that Dish is pulling in an attempt to force users away from the VIP211k.

They are obviously regretting that they ever let users have a "non-dvr" dvr in the first place. You would think they would be happy charging you a $40 one time fee... and then be happy letting the customer be the one responsible for HDD failures.

Dish clearly hates the 211k bitter-clingers. This recording deletion problem is intentional (IMO), and I think it is just one more tool that they are using. Hopper and a 2-year agreement... that's what they want you to have. Think about that... a 2-year agreement... with a company $30 Billion in debt (that's with a B). What happens when all that debt causes them to drop the channel that may have been your whole reason for having Dish in the first place? Guess who's stuck with a service that no longer suits their needs... for the remainder of the 2-year agreement.

On top of that, they don't want you to install it yourself. I purchased and installed all my equipment myself. That used to be common. Now, they lie to me and tell me that my dish must be updated to use a Hopper. Funny thing is... they don't even know what dish I have because they didn't install it, and I didn't tell them. If you ask what type of dish/LNBs the hopper needs... good luck getting an answer. All they know is that whatever you have needs to be upgraded by an installer.

It is quite apparent to me that they care much more about staying in their box, than they do working with the customer. That's too bad, because it hasn't always been that way. It's like they are totally unaware of the current business environment that they are trying to compete in.

I have been a customer since 2010. I will be cancelling my service before the next period. Yeah, I know, my $1,200 a year won't make a difference to them. It just seems like they have forgotten who needs who, especially when you consider the competition in today's streaming world. But hey, they will have succeed in forcing me off the 211k.

Well, after nine months of being on pause, I finally figured out that I was wasting $5 a month. So I cancelled. For the first time since 2010, I no longer have a Dish account.

I do have to say that I did appreciate the account pause option. That just gives a person some time to see what the fallout of cancelling will be... without having to go all the way over the cliff first.

Since I never once had an "oh shoot, I need Dish Network for..." moment, the decision was a lot easier.

Funny enough, when I called to cancel (for real, not playing the pricing game), all of a sudden, they were offering me deals that I was told before that I couldn't get without changing out my VIP211k. Now, I could have had those specials with them just sending me a new card for the receiver. LOL!

Of course, my mind was already made up because of having not missed the service while on pause. That, and the fact that I bet the 211k still kills recordings.

All in all, I'm glad that I had Dish for all those years. I just outgrew the need, and they pressed the issue by deleting recordings. I would have eventually went this route without the deleted recordings issue. But, for sure, that did hasten the outcome.

I'll still pop in at this site from time to time. Believe it or not, I still have a C/Ku BUD that I intend on playing with again if life ever slows down.

Unless things have changed at Dish, which is entirely possible, they won't activate the 211, even as a replacement. I gave one to a customer a while back....which when I turned it off I made sure to tell the CSR I wanted it freed up so another customer could use it, I was assured it was.....and when they called to swap out there's they were told it couldn't be done. Now like I said, things MIGHT HAVE CHANGED.

It hasn't changed. When I cancelled my service the other day, they told me I didn't need to return the receiver (which I already knew because I purchased it).

But in addition to that, the young man told me not to sell it, but to take it to a recycling place. The reason he gave for the advice was because 211Ks can no longer be activated.

So as far as the VIP211k goes... once grandpa dies, he's dead.
T
They tell you to trash it and not to sell simply because they're phasing them out, not particularly because someone might be "confused" into buying it and not be able to activate. They tell people that in every case where they're not acting to get a box back, either from a replacement or service cancel.

Although my VIP211K hasn't been subscribed or connected to a dish in probably 5 years since canceling service, my 1 TB HDD full of programming still works fine.

Upon occasion I power it up to watch something I recorded as far back as 2010. The last time I had it going in September it even let me rescan the local OTA channels which I think it refused at some earlier time. I will use it until the day it fails but this topic makes me think some software download is responsible for current subscribers.

Has anyone subscribed to NBA League Pass for 2026-27 and try to link their account to NBA.com to stream League Pass? I purchased it for 2026-27, and when I linked, I got a message saying success, but then I receive an error that my linked subscription does not include the preseason games for NBA League Pass. Is that how it has always been? I know satellite doesn't have the preseason games on the NBA League Pass channels, but I thought that I was able to stream the preseason once I linked my account on NBA.com?

I found my answer...when I log into the NBA app on my phone and try to watch, it gives me a more clear answer that it acknowledges I have paid for NBA League Pass from Dish and it is linked, but I need an "upgraded" subscription to League Pass for the preseason games. So I guess it is by design that Dish does not show the preseason games on League pass and that the contract Dish has signed for league pass is explicitly for the regular season games. (I know the description for League Pass says regular season games, but I thought that was only by satellite and the preseason would have worked)

I plan on doing what I did last season. I ordered the more expensive arena feed version from the NBA website. It's worth it because you get to watch what's going on in the arena instead of just staring at the ad break slide on the Dish version. The main advantage to ordering from the website is you can go on a month by month basis and cancel if you get tired of it.

24 team playoff seems to be real close.

Are we really that far from a 64-team tournament?

The benefit of the 24 team playoff:
  • All the cartel teams that cartels want in playoff are in playoff
    • Independent of record too! Bonus.
  • MONEY!!!!! for the cartels.
  • I'm out of ideas.
Cons
  • Regular season really doesn't matter now other than the rivalry games
    • Top cartel teams can lose three games and still make the playoff
  • Going to start resting players?
    • The playoff is going to be *checks notes* several games!
    • Resting players could make games dumb.
    • Maybe even restrict NIL players from games played.
  • How much are streaming sub costs going up a month to pay for this?!

One of the pro's I see is in a year with so many undefeated teams they have a good chance of an opening. Few years back you had lower divisions that didnt get a shot. I love collage football and I have no problem with that addition.

We are in what week 5 now? Been two real good ranked games to watch.....Other than that top 25 teams are playing nothing.

Oh, I Hate the idea ...

It would be different if it was a game that you could play 2 or games each week, but when you only play 1 game a week, the larger playoff is Not a good thing ...

The season has how many games now, is it 14 ... then you want to play another 5 (with more to come) against Top 12 (eventually 24 teams) ... remember, the 5 games in the playoffs will be the hardest games all year and back to back.

For example, IF Ohio State should win it all this year ... they play 5 teams in the Top 25, plus they would play 5 more to win it all, depending on how the ranking shake out and if Bye weeks are given.

Thats 10 Ranked teams ... in one year ...
I don't see that happening very often ...
Edit, Bama plays 4, Georgia plays 3, But Ole Miss plays 5 (didn't expect to see that)

That said, I don't see the Buckeyes winning it all this year.

One of the pro's I see is in a year with so many undefeated teams they have a good chance of an opening. Few years back you had lower divisions that didnt get a shot. I love collage football and I have no problem with that addition.
A 12 team playoff net should catch any undefeated team. The 12 team playoff also exposed that rankings suck. I mean, we kind of knew already that the rankings weren't particularly reproducible, but we now have the empirical evidence that the rankings suck because judging who is the best among a mickey mouse scheduled football season isn't a rational endeavor. So the 12 team playoff ensures most teams that should make it, do, including the mid-major undefeated team. 8 teams should be able to work as well, but puts greater risk at OSU and Alabama missing the playoff... can't have that.

Which is the run up to my main problem with the 24 team set up is that it is designed to keep the OSU's and Alabama's from missing the playoff. The cartels are ensuring widespread participation for their own cartels to increase the monetary reward to themselves. It is fixing the system while not fixing the outcomes, merely making the regular season game outcomes virtually irrelevant. Sure, a bye for winning the conference would be nice, but we've already seen that byes aren't that influential.
We are in what week 5 now? Been two real good ranked games to watch.....Other than that top 25 teams are playing nothing.
That is college football in a nutshell. Again, college football isn't about competition, it is about revenue. The entire setup is about making money, from regular season squash games against local jobbers like the WWF days to tax exempt bowl games.

And to add to the first world woes, the college football cartels have made being a College Football fan even more expensive... so they can get paid more.
