I am currently a DISH Network customer and have been for the past 11 years. My current setup is a 40" Samsung LCD (TV 1), HD-DVD player (for up-scaling abilities only), and the Dish DuoDVR 625 receiver. I also have a 32" Vizio (TV 2) in the bedroom connected to the 625 via coax cable (its about 20 feet away).

TV 1 is connect through a S-Video cable (which is the best method for the 625 receiver) and composite audio cable. TV 2 is straight Coax. Last week I bought a 50 ft composite cable and hook up the second TV that method but saw no video quality improvement.

So my next step was to contact DISH and inquire about an HD receiver. My wife called the first time and they told her it would be $299 for a HD-DVR receiver and $150 installation plus sign another 2 year contract. Luckily she didn't say OK without talking to me first.

So I call them the next day and ask them why they have an advertisement on their site that says "Up to 3 HD receivers for free..." yet they are going to charge me, who has been a loyal customer for 11 years over $300 for 1 receiver.

After some discussion we reached an agreement. They are going to offer me 2 HD-DVR's (722 or 722k...cant remember), Turbo Bronze Package, and Free installation for $53/month.

I am more than like going to call back and go with it (I had them put it in my notes so the next CSR knows the whole story).

I have heard/read a few different places the 722/722k receivers come with a OTA module for receiving off the air channels? True?
(I already subscribe to my locals in SD so they will show up in my channel guide).

Currently I have an indoor Phillips antenna that a friend loaned me and I receive about 7 channels (most in 1080i or 720p some are in 480i but those are the latino stations). I can run the antenna out the bedroom window and pick up about 10 stations which led me to purchase a DB8 Multi-Directional antenna last week.

Edit: Does the 722k come with a built in OTA module? I only watch my local channels so that's all I really care about getting, but DISH does not offer my local stations in HD (DirectTV said they can though).

Can you tell me why I get guide data for the Shreveport CBS channel and not for the Tyler CBS channel?
C
Because Dish doesn't carry the Tyler LIL, therefore doesn't have guide data for it?

All guide data comes through Dish; none of it comes through the antenna. If you're not listed as being within the Shreveport DMA, I think it's funny that Dish is supplying you that data, or rather that your receiver is decoding and displaying that data, but c'est la vie.

This is what the DISH site says I receive with my local channel subscription . I was getting 19 through the OTA antenna but, it said Digital Programming in the guide.

That is interesting. I'd call Dish about that.

The Tyler/Longview/Nacogdoches/Jacksonville stations are on 110 in SD only spotbeam 21 . Are you receiving 110? SatelliteGuys.US - Subscription 110°W
It took me quite a while to find them, so my 1st post about LIL was incorrect. You should be getting guide data for them on the big 4 nets. The link shows the channels on 110 in descending order.

I know HipKat said that they were working on conversions but we got the official news yesterday right from Dish that starting next month all DMA's will be on the western arc, and all customers will be assigned to that. That's gonna mean a lot of customers around here aren't gonna get Dish unless there are exceptions. Too many mountains and trees.

Even if you are broadcasting old SD-only shows, I would think advertisers would still want their commercials to look good.

Advertisers on SD channels are probably Far and Few, very hard to find, they have very few viewers to watch them.

I watch mostly SD channels (H&I, Start and ION, etc.). There are plenty of advertisers, this time of the year it is mostly Medicare Advantage plans, auto extended warranties and the occasional walk-in-tub. They know who is watching.

Why didn't Charlie end up launching starlink
Because he didn't have a fleet of reusable rockets. Starlink works because SpaceX is able to launch hundreds (thousands?) of their Starlink satellites for what a single geostationary Internet satellite costs to build and launch on a disposable launcher.

But how is it reusable if it's disposable

He does not have the resources aka $$$ compared to Elon Musk as in reality, Elon can eat Charlie for lunch or even mop the floor with Charlie if he wanted to.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Also watched part 2 about a week or so ago after rewatching part 1. It's not as faithful to the book as I was hoping for. Part 1 stayed fairly faithful to the novel, but part 2 took some liberties that I felt were rather excessively non-novel. It looks like a prequel series will happen before part 3. My issue is: there's no prequel that was written as a novel, so what will it be pulled from? Or will it just be "based loosely" on the novel?

There is a bunch of other Dune written by Kevin J Anderson and Brian Herbert (Franks son). I think the series in production is taken from one of their books about the Bene Gesserit.

Correct. I've read all of them (yes, it took awhile, better part of a year, in my spare time). And they can't really consider or classify a series about the Bene Gesserit as a prequel. Sure, I suppose they can call it that, if they want to, because it begins before the time of Paul Atredies, but it's still a stretch. It's a Dune-related novel, not a prequel as we generally think of prequels...
long_time_Dish
Well, it looks good! I just hope they stayed close to the trilogy, but it doesn't look like it.
