What is the point of dual tuner boxes now?

Now that Dish is increasing the price for a dual tuner box on your account by 7.00, what is the point of having one now? I have 3 in my house and a 14.00 a month increase is pretty heafty. I spoke with dish about this and they said every one charges for each tuner and they are rolling all fees into one. The first part might be true, but there was never a fee for the second tuner to roll into one. If I have to pay 7.00 for each tuner I might as well get all single tuner boxes to feed my tv's with hdmi's. I use two of the feeds right now off of each of the 222k's to feed my kids beadrooms with coax, which looks like crap on 26" LCD tv's but I deal with it to keep my price down. Also the rep which I spoke to could not explain the 3.00 more fee per box for the dvrs, all he kept saying was there is only one dvr fee now. Maybe I am missing something her, but I wish they would have just done there standard 3.00 per year programming price increase instead of this. I think I am just goint to sell my 222k or trade it for a 211k. Just my 2 cents.

Crap, Crap. I purchased a 222k as a direct replacement for my 322 mainly because a CSR incorrectly told me it would accept an EHD. I didn't do any research to confirm this because it seemed logical that it should/would accomodate an EHD. Now with this new pricing, I think I would have been much better off purchasing 2 211k receivers instead of the 222k.

True. I suppose I have no one to blame but myself, and I should know better. Oh well, my worst case scenario would be to buy two 211k's and have the 222k sitting on a shelf collecting dust.

This isn't directed to you (but it might apply). I personally think a fair number of people have more rec'rs then they really need, and that means that -- especially with the new price changes -- they are wasting a lot of money. It seems many people think they need a separate rec'r for each TV, when at most what they really need is an output for each person in their household. And depending on the TVs and the person some of those outputs might only need to be SD. I think most typical families could probably be content with no more than just two rec'rs (with probably with just one being a Duo). I know my three person family (that is soon to be four) gets by just fine with a single Duo 722 that is outputting to three HDTVs as well as two SDTVs. I have an IR distribution system for controlling the 722 in various rooms, but the same could be accomplished with a few of Dish's RF remotes. So you might have to spend a few $$ on some equipment and long cables, but at these new lease prices you'll be able to make up the $ outlay within a few months.

Gramma (ch 22) has hers, the kids (ch 44) have theirs all off a 625; we just gave Grampa (ch 55) on a 501, but since he never uses the DVR that may become a 4000 here real soon. And I share a 722 (single mode) in my office and the Media Room, which can also be watched through the media room feed on channel 39 throughout the grounds. Everybody has their own channel out that can be seen on any TV on the property, all they have to do is remember to have their RF remote for their channel. Grampa has three. But as I have posted before I have a plan in place that has already reaped a bit of a reward in HBO replying to my eMail that I am dropping their service to balance the new fees. Netflix, CinemaNow and Vudu are proving more useful anyway. HBO was not amused to say the least. We had a long talk over the phone. They called me.

And on a second note, I have been noticing a drop in HD PQ more so now than a while back on the 722. Which I was told quite a while ago that was acknowledged and going to be fixed in a then future software release. Looks to me that it's gone the other way. A field supervisor that came to the house a while ago was amazed to see the difference from what I could show him. He made it sound like they have no way to actively make comparisons.

Isn't this how companies start on the long slow decline?

I'm glad you noticed this. I posted another message about the dramatic difference in picture quality between my 211k and 722. My wife commented that she remembers the 722 once having as good a picture of the 211. Not any more.

So I'm alittle confused also. I'm a new subscriber to Dish and I just received my first bill. I have a VIP222 and a VIP722 DVR. The only fee I have on my bill is a $7.00 DHA Leased Receiver. Some have been saying there is a DVR fee. Is this included with the package? I subscribe to the Classic Silver 200 with DVR for $37.99 for the 1st year and then $57.99 after that.

For me PIP died long ago when I got a DVR -- especially one with a dual tuner. Why try to watch anything in that little window? Just record both shows, or at least buffer each and swap between them (skipping commercials).

Gotta have PIP to swap! lol
612 has two sat. tuners but cannot swap or PIP!

I wasn't trying to argue against a Duo rec'r (because I do like the benefits of the dual buffers in Single mode) but I still think PIP is dead -- and you don't have to use PIP to be able to Swap. Just hit the Swap button anytime (even without a PIP window up) and swap between the tuners. That said, with a 612 just record both shows, and watch them one at a time skipping commercials (and thus saving time) along the way.

USA Healthcare Costs are Ridiculous

Pissed off at the crappy healthcare costs

My health Insurance renewal for 2027 just came in. Going from $827 a month to $1,187 a month. Deductible going up a $1k to $9,350. Max out of pocket also going up $1k to $11,000. Doctor co-pay of $40. Urgent Care co-pay $50. ER 50% coinsurance after deductible. That's all in network. Out of network is double, should it be needed.

Have to think about this. I'm really tempted to just go without now. I only go to the doctor once or twice a year. I pay out of pocket for Tirzepitide and can do without the Rosuvastatin (crestor) now. Really tired of spending over $10k a year and getting nothing out of it.

After years with Blue Cross I switched last year to Ambetter as my Blue Cross premium was going from $1200 to $1800 for a Silver plan and the Bronze plan was still going to be $1300 at BCBS. Ambetter was $827 for the same coverage with a Bronze plan. Didn't think it would jump this much so soon.

I'm guessing a Silver plan is probably over $2,000 a month for 2027.

I didn't start it as a political statement and have no interest in the political BS of this country. Everyone wants to make everything political nowadays. This was just my rant over the outrageous increase in my premiums and how unaffordable healthcare is becoming to the average person here.

There are no dues to be paid to be in the Pit. You just have to use the password which is clearly shown when you try to log in to it.

Dish Hopper and Dish Hopper Plus No Alexa in settings

I have Dish Hopper and Hopper Plus and also have Alexa Echo. I link the Alex skill to Dish and it asks me to enter the pairing code shown on the TV. I go into Dish Settings and there is no Alexa shown. Not sure what to do.

Understood. But here's the rub - Google Assistant setup is ALSO missing from the Hopper Plus setup. I'm a paraplegic.and need to use voice controls as much as possible but I can't press a button on the remote to activate Google Assistant. I prefer ALEXA (or ALEXA+) but I have one older google device and will go that route IF they make it available. BTW calling Dish Customer Service is no help- they just say they have no info on if/when there will be an update.

Or maybe, when I return with a full glass in one hand and a new plate in the other, I realize I forgot to pause to hear this good story from its start. So I say, "Alexa, skip DISH backwards 3 minutes", and I still get to catch the whole story.

I use this every day. Or until I acquire a third hand.

Does that raise, or lower, the overall price? Our State Government has been doing everything it can to minimize the impact of the current situation and put a freeze on the State Taxes on fuel sales at the pump. That's why we're still under $4.00/gal. while across the border in Michigan it's much higher.

Winter blend is reportedly 10-30 cents cheaper, but I would point out that prices have dropped as much as 62 cents at RP.

Thought I was getting a Chorizo and egg burrito (marker had rubbed off)but was a roast beef/potato I made up before hunting this morning.
Btw every morning at camp I cooked my homemade Chorizo and scrambled eggs plus sausage side while my brother brought bacon. (they liked both the beef and pork versions)

Mixed one egg, one tablespoon cottage cheese with a small fine grated potato, salt and pepper, made 3 waffles in the small waffle iron... Bacon, sausage and milk. (next time will add grated cheese to mix)

When I see a football player get a 15 yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct (like taunting) in a close game, I often wonder what he was thinking. Was he thinking, I'm doing everything I can to make this a better team and help win a championship? Or, was he saying to himself, I want everyone to notice how great I am?
