Does the Elite come pre-programmed with the Correct Satellites Location installed.

I bought a used pansat 3500, but it is outdated, name of satellites not correct.

Mr. Crane,

I assume that the stock list of satellites and transponders for the Elite and the Premium models are going to be identical. With the Premium model that I have, I found that the satellite names and some of the transponders are incorrect. They are usually simply outdated names of sats, but there are some TPs that are listed incorrectly. Example: 123.0°W is listed as Galaxy 10R and not Galaxy 18.

The actual positions of the satellites are correct and that is the most critical.

For the majority, the list is just fine and just a satellite name or a transponder frequency being wrong here and there won't cause any functional problems. Editing the correct transponder frequencies or adding updated ones is very simple.

However, you cannot edit the name of any satellite from what I have found. You must delete it and reenter it with the name you desire, which means reentering the entire list of TPs for that sat.

The fact that the stock list contains nearly every satellite in the world is the problem that I found the most troublesome. Because of this, when you would go in to set up or edit a satellite in the menus, you might have to wade through so many to get to the one you desired.

Therefore, I intentionally deleted every satellite that was from the eastern hemisphere and many of those that were in the western hemisphere, but that I could not view from my location. This helped considerably.

I am very particular about how my list appears. The most recent thing that I did was attempt to delete ALL the satellites from my list. DON'T DO THIS! THe AZBox doesn't like this. I found that it actually won't really let you do this, but it will sure scare the heck out of you if you try! So, you can delete all but one. Leave that one last satellite alone until after you add one back, then you may go ahead and delete that last one. This is a LOT of work, but I found it worthwhile in the long run. I guess.

RADAR
M
Radar, thanks for the excellent explanation. so deleting all the eastern birds from europe, would be ok to delete.

Mr. Crane,

Yes, this is fine to do. It sure made the process of searching through the entire list much easier. We here in N.A. cannot view those eastern hemisphere sats anyway, so why have them in the list?

I did quite a bit of work cleaning up my own Premium AZBox satellite list and after all was said and done (and I had scanned the Ku Band channels that I was able to receive) my satellite list resulted in appearing like this (see attachments).

EDIT: I noticed that when you edit a satellite (enter a new sat) that you are not allowed to enter as many characters for the sat name as some of the stock satellite names originally had. I don't understand why this is. You would think if they had a satellite name as long as 101.0°W AMC 4 North America that you could reenter the same name if desired, but it doesn't allow this. For instance, on Hispasat 1C/1D I could only enter "Hispasat 1". Maybe if I tried this editing or adding using an editor program it woud allow this or maybe there is something unique about he text font or size that is different. I am not certain of this yes.

Re the original question, I have never seen ANY sat receiver that came with an updated satellite/transponder list. The Elete is no different. It needs to be edited.

Re Radar's response, we've posted on this matter before, and it may depend upon what firmware version your receiver comes with, and what particular set of channel data that comes loaded, but in my opinion, it proved to be next to impossible to get the satellite/transponder data sorted out by just using the remote, and the reason was that the data was corrupt in the files that came with the receiver. It may be that the ability to fix things with the remote may depend upon what files are installed on the Azbox when you get it. I found that the ONLY way that I could get a good set of satellite/transponder data into the receiver was to use the channel editor.
The MAIN problem, was that in MY Elete, and I've seen several other posts from people with the same problem, is that there was a satellite that I think was at 1.0W longitude. I forget the name of the sat off hand {I think it is INTELSAT 10-2, THOR 2,3,5} , but I would look to see if you have a sat at 1.0W, and try to delete it. If you CAN'T delete it, then the odds are good that you have corrupted satellite/transponder data, and in my opinion, it is a waste of time trying to correct it using the remote, because as long as that satellite is in there, the Azbox will do some strange things. Even though the editor has problems, and can't be used to edit many/most of the sat/transponder parameters, it WILL allow you to enter an uncorrupted list of satellites, and it will allow you to change the names of those satellites, and it WILL allow you to then upload those satellites into the Azbox. Once you get them there, THEN, I wouldn't touch the editor again, because it has bugs. Do thing with the remote after that. OR, some people have used the MAZ program, which does seem to have promise, however before using MAZ, I'd really suggest using the regular editor program first to get a basic sat list, and SAVE that list, so you will have something to come back to if things go wrong.

Anyway, I can't remember where I got the editor, but there may be a version saved on this forum, I'm not sure. There are a few versions of the editor. The one the finally worked for me is one called AzboxEdit_0.9.2880. This is for use with firmware versions after 0.9.2880 obviously. There was another editor for earlier versions. This editor didn't work for me. I've seen posts referring to a AzboxEdit_0.9.2880a , however I think I used the one without the a. If you can't find this editor, I have a copy. I'd also recommend reading the editor thread over at Rick's forum, ie :
AZBox HD Channel Editor - Ricks Satellite Wildfeed and Backhaul Forum This thread starts out talking about the earlier editor that didn't work, then talks about issues with the 2880 editor. But most importantly, it discusses how to get a valid satellite list into the editor, and that is by using a web site that generates a .xml file that can be imported into the editor. The web page is at:
satellites.xml generator
This site will allow you to select which sats you want, and it will create the .xml file that can be imported into the editor.
Actually, I didn't use that site, because in the above forum thread, someone posted a link to a sample .xml file, which I downloaded and edited myself with a text editor, THEN imported this list into the editor. Once in the editor, I was able to do some generic add/delete/change name things to the sat list, but I avoided trying to make changes to the actual sat parameters.
Once the list is in the editor, the editor will upload this list to the Azbox, replacing the corrupt file that comes with the Azbox.
After getting the file up on the Azbox, I'd really suggest just using the remote to make changes after that, because one of the 3 files that the Azbox uses for sat/transponder/channel data is kept in a protected partition, and if the Azbox detects a problem, it puts this file back in, in place of the one you've generated, and it messes stuff up again. However, despite some issues with the editor, I really think it is the only sure way to get a non-corrupt version of satellites into the Azbox. After getting the non-corrupt satellite list in there, I think that some of the other issues that people report don't happen.

If you DON'T want to try the editor, then, I'd really recommend using a USB keyboard, either wired or wireless, because using the remote to type in names can take forever. However, if you DON'T use the editor, and start seeing strange behavior, I would really start suspecting that it is due to the corrupted satellite list.

BTW, the 2880 editor I mentioned works with the 0.9.3877 firmware, which is the most recent "semi-tested" beta version, which I am using. Most people here have added more recent " weekly update versions that aren't tested. I don't know if the editor works with those or not, but I think it should.
If you get an Azbox with prior to the 0.9.2880 firmware, I'd recommend upgrading to the 3877, then use the editor, then try upgrading to newer versions, since that is pretty certain to work. If your azbox comes with 2880 or later, then you may not even have the corrupted file issue, and you can use the editor immediately.
Also, if you decide to use the editor, you will probably need to enable FTP and TCP in the Azbox setup in order to upload/download files to/from the Azbox. I'd advise making copies of these 3 files regardless of whether you use the editor. THe files are:

antenna_list.dat ,
DVBS.dat , and
antenna_list.dat .

The DVBS.dat file is the one that is kept in a protected backup partition that the Azbox will revert to.

If all else fails, you can get a copy of the above 3 files from someone who has loaded in satellites sucessfully, and manually upload them to the Azbox.

With the 1st Quarter Report just released, Dish lost another 180,000, now at 4.84 Million.

Sling now at 1.79 million subscribers, down approximately 190,000.

For comparison, YouTube TV now has about double the subscribers of Dish and Sling combined.

I'm surprised Dish still has that many subscribers. I don't know a single person in my area that is still with them after getting either Starlink or fiber at their home. They all cancelled Dish and went with streaming. I used to get offers pretty regularly in the mail to come back to Dish, but no more. Haven't seen one in a couple of years now.

Only about 3.6% of Households in the United States, still have Dish Network.

For comparison, YouTube TV has about 10%.

$25 a month for 1 gig, for two years with Spectrum. I'd be darned that their router was MUCH better than AT&T's. I didn't realize that what I thought was something else was the bloody router. Those buffering issues stopped when I swapped... after AT&T refused to lower my bill, after 25 years of high speed internet service. They wanted $80 or so a month for 1 gig, with no drop to a lower speed.

1gbit up and down here from att start out great was suppose to be $60 for life of service, with years time it went back up to $80 I complained about they gave us $49 for year which about to end, I Wonder what prices will be when it "up" I in no way like ATT fiber service there DNS that are hardcode and unchange able in the router are some WORSE DNS I ever used. you know how much of pain it is to change DNS setting on EVERY single wireless device...

I dropped Dish a couple years back after having them for 25 years. The pricing got higher and after we got high speed internet, I watched it less and less. It got to the point all I watched was TCM for classic movies. Many of them are on You Tube now and a Premium subscription is $14 a month. A far cry of the $100 a month was paying with AT180, Supers, and locals. I get locals OTA anyway. I took down the dish several months ago and tossed it. I owned all my my equipment, so nothing to return. Do I miss a traditional cable type service? No way. If I want one I have all of the free live streaming with Roku, the Fire Stick, as well as Google TV. Right now as I type this, I am watching episodes of "The Midnight Special" from 1976 on You Tube, ad free. Dish was fine for many years. I do not regret buying the equipment and installing it myself (No installers in 1999). I enjoyed Dish for many years. My thoughts, Dish & Direct will be forced to merge in time, or they both will be gone. Even cable companies are getting out of TV. Some are only selling the internet and phone packages.

A lot of it flows back to the 4 big networks.

In my area we get 2 news feeds spread over 4 local stations.
ABC/NBC (TEGNA)
Same news cast simulcast over both channels.

CBS/Fox (Sinclair)
Same news casters at 5pm, 6pm, 10pm.
Fox shows an hour at 9pm but same news casters.

Did anyone have a price increase today on their equipment? I own my VIP211k's, and they have been $5.00. My bill that I received last week shows the "add-ons" as being $5.00. However, I just logged into my Dish account, and my "add-ons" are now $10.00. Did the additional receivers go up by $5.00 recently?

As I mentioned, my last bill shows $5.00 and under the notes, nothing is mentioned about a price increase.

Never mind - according to chat, it seems like there is a glitch in their website. The prices for owned receivers are still $5.00.
zippyfrog
However, when I make a change (tried to add the Columbian pack for $2 so I could generate my bill) and there is a new line - it says "Access for TV" - whereas previously that line item was not there. I hope they aren't charging $5.00 for the initial TV now...

Apparently it's not an "owned receiver" fee but rather an extension fee that's applied to 2nd and subsequent viewing. Maybe that played into their decision to force a box at every TV- garnering those fees

Possibly. In theory, $9 of the base pack has a rental fee built in. But now is this $5 a chance to get a little more? I don't know for sure. According to chat, it is a glitch and will be resolved in a timely manner, but we shall see. Part of my thinks there is a going to be a new charge, whether it is now or this fall. Here in Illinois, the law requires we are given 30 days notice of any fee changes, but I have not been given anything.

These fees are why streaming has caught on so well across the country and DISH is losing subs each quarter. Soon won't be enough subs to be profitable.

Hello again, haven't posted here in a while.

This morning, around 6:30am, I woke up and found the front panel lights on my HR44 on (I leave it off all the time as it is co-located with one of my Geminis).

Immediately thinking that either a reboot or power outage occurred, I checked the software version, and found that it's still the same release that was sent out last month.

I then ruled out a power outage by checking the clocks on my appliances and seeing that they're still correct (they reset when there's an outage, somewhat similar to the "blinking 12" on VCRs).

I then confirmed a reboot by checking the Upcoming Recordings (fka To-Do List) and seeing that the number was much lower than before (it always resets after a reboot).

I am definitely guessing what happened (and it may very well be actually what happened) is that the "Reset Required" prompt may have come up sometime overnight, and it eventually timed out and rebooted automatically. IIRC that prompt comes up when new software "plugins" have to be installed.

Would like to hear your thoughts, especially since I probably haven't talked to some of you reading this in a while (was a former CE member, left almost a year ago).

Thank you all in advance!

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Our DNS provider is encouraging us to enable DNSSEC on our domains for added security.

I have gone ahead and enabled it, and am told it may take anywhere from 90 minutes to 24 hours for it to take effect.

Hopefully doing this does not harm the site in any way. (It shouldn't) but if it does, you will then know why and I will revert the settings.

But from what I am reading it should be ok. so just giving a warning as I have screwed up DNS stuff in the past. :D

Due to security concerns and the fact that the Tapatalk Plugin for Xenforo is no longer being updated we have removed Tapatalk support from SatelliteGuys.

For those who were using it we recommend using our PWA App instead which is faster and does not have all the spam Tapatalk had. Below is a graphic showing how to add SatelliteGuys to your devices home screen. (While iOS is shown the process is mostly the same for Android.)

Actually, PWA stands for "Progressive Web Application" and is basically just saving a site's homepage to your desktop where it appears as an "App" with the rest of your smartphone's Apps.

A PWA is a custom version of SatelliteGuys which is optimized for mobile devices. While it may look like the website, its actually different so that only the files needed for mobile are sent, meaning its a much faster experience all around.

TapaTalk is essentially dead. It was written for PHP 5.4 and we are now running PHP 8.4. There have been a LOT of PHP security updates since then and since Tapatalk for Xenforo has not been updated in a long long time it is not the safest idea to keep running it.

In addition those trying to view the site on their mobile devices using a browser were getting spammed on the top of the screen for people to install TapaTalk, this ad in some cases would take up 20% of the users screen. We could get rid of that ad but we would have to pay $20 a month to get rid of it.

Screenshot 2026-06-11 085611.webp

In addition TapaTalk could and was inserting their own ads on SatelliteGuys in the app which only benefitted them, SatelliteGuys was not paid for those ads they were displaying on our site. Again we could pay to get rid of those ads.

Screenshot 2026-06-11 085641.webp

And here was the cost of the Premium Tier.

Screenshot 2026-06-11 085701.webp

Now to make matters worse Tapatalk recently announced that they are going to start charging users of the app 99 cents a month to continue using it.

Screenshot 2026-06-11 090141.webp

So soon you would be paying them each month to access SatelliteGuys via their app, again all the money going to them... and you would still see all their ads too.

Tapatalk was a great program which we run for many many years, and for a long time we DID pay for the premium tier. But now with such a small offset using it (My numbers show a total of 6 members) it wasn't work paying for any longer.

In addition Tapatalk was sold to a different owner who made lots of promises of improvements and updates but then that owner has been really radio silent since, instead they have been letting TapaTalk rot on the vine.

If you visit their support forum at https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/tapatalksupport/ you will see there is not much going on, in fact most of the support questions posted there go unanswered.

Please give the PWA a try, I was a die hard Tapatalk user myself but now only use the PWA on devices. It is a much better all around experience, with no bloatware or additional ads based on your user membership level.

I don't have an android phone so I could not make a graphic showing you how to add SatelliteGuys PWA to your phones apps or home screen. But here is a site that explains how to do it on all kinds of devices. How to Install a PWA on iOS, Android, Windows & Mac [2025 Guide]

The above link also explains PWA's better as well. :)

If Tapatalk were to update their plugins so we know we are more secure and up to date and allow us to remove the "Smart Banner" without having to pay $20 a month, we would consider adding it back. I don't even care about their ads, as if a user wants to use their app and is willing to sit through their ads in order to use that app then I am ok with it.

But hopefully that explains better why it was removed. It was not done to cut anyone off from the site. :) Please give the PWA a try.

As you may have noticed we are doing a Fund Raiser for SatelliteGuys!

As many of you know I have been paying for a majority of the operation of the site out of my own pocket for awhile now. Now looking at things we have a number of renewals coming up that I could use some help with. These renewals include the license renewal for our Forum Software, Renewal of a number of our add on's the site uses, renewal of domain names etc.

I have set a goal of $400.00 - any extra that comes in will just go to fund the operations of the site. None of the money will go to me (I tried BuyMeACoffee a few months ago, and they denied me saying they do not do business with Satellite Piracy sites... which we are not... hell we host the beta programs for both DISH and DIRECTV here...)

Anyways... if you would like to help out please click the link below.

Thank you in advance. :)

Awesome pictures, Yespage! Thanks!

I caught the end of the four hour race on YouTube so I wasn't "spoiled", but got to see the exciting last lap action in the TCR division!

I heard on the radio, after the final pitstop, Turner Motorsport were resigned to second place. 'You're in second. Don't worry about it. First is McLaren, we aren't catching them.'

Caught up to the 500... err... k in St. Louis. What a race! Andretti Motorsport were doing very well with Ericsson and Kirkwood, meanwhile Power was moving up the grid. Veekay started cautiously. He was working the tires just right, becoming more lethal later in the stint. Rasmussen was racing likewise, not nearly as insane as he has in the past. Palou was leading the race, in a shocker to all. Caio Collet was having a wonderful ride, making Ferucci potentially sweat a bit. Rain came, rain went, rain came, rain went. Generally mild sprinkles, but enough to pause racing on an oval.

Palou would kind of send Siegel into the wall. Siegel really didn't do much wrong. As he noted, you have to turn at some point. Palou had acres of room below and Siegel might have had his ticket out of Indycar stamped. Dixon was doing the fuel thing and got busted twice by yellows, not pitting before the flag came out. Then the most critical happened... Palou ran out of gas on pit lane, effectively giving Newgarden the race lead and win. Newgarden had a very early pit, so he was able to slide in, get service and go. Meanwhile, everyone else was confused and stuck behind Palou for a bit. Once people figured what was happening, Newgarden had a major advantage of several seconds. Newgarden wouldn't look back and when it went green again, he'd hold the lead for the win.

Massive credit to Juncos Hollinger who bested Penske in getting Veekay out before Malukas in a transition that was oddly bizarre. I haven't had time to check, but I'm wondering if Veekay was about to run out of fuel or cut a tire. He was charging late in a stint, got up to fifth, and then tailed back for a few laps to 10th or 11th. It looked like it was over. Went into the pits, and after the pitting sequence was over, Veekay was well inside the top ten again. It was weird. And he charged, getting up to fourth. He made a late move on Rasmussen, but Rasmussen held his position with some great driving. In fact, there was a ton of incredible racing passing, not passing all race long. Veekay would finish 4th. A podium would have been awesome, but it is a great outcome for a guy who hopefully will get a break with a big team. We saw what Veekay could do with a Honda last season with fuel save, imagine replacing Simpson on Ganassi and having speed to go with fuel saving. His 6th at Indy and 4th at St. Louis get him up to 13th in the points standings and only 5 points outside of the top 10.

Ericsson finished second, resigned to finishing behind the current best in the world guy on a short oval. Rasmussen got the final step on the podium, a nice rebound to what has been an otherwise bad year for him, and a good reward to ECR who just extended his contract.

They raced USAC cars at Daytona once. Once! People died. Aj Foyt said 'f this', and left after the first go around. AJ freaking Foyt thought it was crazy! And cars weren't nearly as fast as they are now.

I think they tried Talladega once too.

LeMans qualifying on going. WEC has d9ne a great job expanding the automotive company entries. Even without Porsche, a large nunber of manufacturers.
