Trying to decide where to install a satellite dish, if I stick with my Winegard DS 3100
I have a spot that has a completely unobstructed view of the south, but if I want to go with
something bigger it gets harder.

I am at Latitude: 42.2603° Longitude: -85.5591°; my true south satellite is 85, viewing these photos
south is straight ahead the house and garage face east/west.

The peak of the garage is 50 feet from the possible install site, and is ~15 feet tall.
The house is 65 feet away and ~ 26 feet tall.

Trying to calculate if I will have any problems clearing the house and garage, and if the trees to
the east could cause interference with any normally viewable sats. Based on info on ftalist dot com
it looks like 72 is the farthest east sat, is that right? If it's correct I think I'm ok.

I welcome all input

Thanks
FS

Doing some math, my house peak is ~ 27 feet and sits 60 feet from the install site.
My south satellite is 85 and my dish angle is 45.

Using the formula tan(angle) * Distance, using my figures tan(40)*60 = 50.345
which I believe shows me that if the dish was at 40 degrees (used 40 instead of actual 45
in order to be conservative) that at that location as long as the house is les than 50 feet I'm ok right?

The garage's peak is 45 feet from the install site, using the above formula and these figures
tan(40) * 45 = 37.759 which I believe means I would clear the garage as long as it is lower than 37 feet.

My property runs lengthwise north/south, and my south satellite is @ 85, using a compass I rotated
the dial so that the needle is to the left of 90 (on 85) and visually sited the tree which seems to be
at 60-65 degrees in relation to the install site.

I'm not an experienced installer but it looks like the site should work, does my logic and math make sense?

EDIT
Found an aerial photo of my house which has lot line mesurements, I have two lots each measure 48 x 120 for a total of 96 x 120
and are indicated on the photo. Leaves are gone but the trees are visible. My roofline runs North/South with my south sat
being 85.

So what sats would I get if I put a dish behind the white fence in the bottom right corner of this pic?

I think I'd scout out the end of your house opposite the garage because I would think you will end up with tree issues on the east and west side of the arc.

Hi, you might want to make yourself a soda straw inclinometer and use it to double check the house and the tree. Check out the pictures for some ideas on how to make one. I used a scrape piece of 1x2, three straws so the center one would be straight and duct tape to hold it all together. Then used an old camera tripod to steady it so I can make very accurate spots.

Hope this helps, DC
K
Thats a neat inclinometer.
Thanks

But.....if you like Tulsa King....looks like you would probably like this as well. I don't mind spin-offs as long as they don't involve a sassy niece who moves from the big city

I thought I would come here and find lots of complaints about the update to the dish anywhere mobile app, but am not seeing any. It used to look just like the desktop webpage. Now you can no longer filter by sports channels or movie channels. Plus that they made it look like a big button telephone and you see fewer channels in the screen which requires more scrolling. Yes I realize you can look at sports then select which sport you want to look at, I just liked being able to see all sporting events in the guide with all other channels being filtered out. Am I alone in the wilderness on this?

I'm not a big fan of the new layout, especially on my Apple TV. It used to look like the old Guide layout on the Hopper 3, but they changed parts of that, too.

You don't like Tony, or Tony as the Director (he's only been there for 30 seconds now) or you don't like NCIS ?

No. Bring in someone new.🤔 Tony is not serious enough for me. Parker is too close to the team and Tim is too young to take over IMO.

I don't think Tim and Tony are that far apart in Age ...

Remember what Tony said to Tim when they first got back together ...
Tony said: I am the New Tony, Tim .... (something to that effect)

Tony has changed, he's been running his Security Business ... I'm sure he has grown up.

Give it time ... your judging the New Tony from the old Tony.

It sounds like Tim won't be around the Team much longer either.

Might be worth a watch when it comes out. Looks like typical big corp against the little guy movie BUT....there is a reason this plot type is so oft repeated, it draws audiences.

If you're going try to read / listen to the book (can't recommend the audio book enough) before this comes out, I'd avoid trailers.

Trailer below, spoiling it to make sure you read the above bold message first. The book / audio book are fantastic. Go into this blind if you can IMO!

Kind of disappointed at how much they show. A lot still to see, but man, some good reveals in the book that are just served up here.

I've seen it twice. Can't recommend the audio book enough, Ray Porter's performance is amazing and there's so much more in the book than the movie.

Forgot to comment. I did watch when it first came out on MGM. I enjoyed it a lot. I think reading the book made it easier to watch. Several friends commented it was a little hard to follow.

I agree. That can go for pretty much any book vs movie. Back when I was single I would read any Stephen King or John Grisham book I could get my hands on. When you read a book you make up the scenes and characters in your mind.....the movie version always disappoints.

A big win for the Patriots, and they are now 3-2.

Browns lose a close one with... The Jets. That is a classic Browns loss (granted, any loss is a classic one it seems). 49'ers, Vikings, and Chiefs remain undefeated. The AFC north have a three way tie at 3-2 for second place.

I had quit watching this show years ago because I ended up more annoyed than entertained. Well......I'm STILL more annoyed than entertained. I DO find it interesting to see how things work behind the scenes at many businesses. What annoys me is how utterly out of touch CEOs are with the companies they run. At the end of almost every episode the head of the company is amazed at how hard the employees have to work and many times have to work around impossible guidelines set forth from headquarters.

I found this one interesting because the new CEO had big plans for this company, Muscle Maker Grill, and it looked like the stores were all pretty busy. Recent history hasn't been good to this company however. I bet the covid lockdowns were the real killer.
