Successful change today of 4DTV to DSR 410, meant the long awaited install of the G-box sitting in-box since August.

Dish was left on AMC-1/W-1 for reference, 4D removed, G-box installed with coax, and motor wires transferred first, then sensor wires.

4DTV had a ground post on rear panel, G-box does not. Not sure if I need to ground the sensor wire, but think so, as it's under (daytime) 5kw of RF. Could be the G-box doesn't ground well, and RF causes issues with the error:

G-box errors when trying to move dish (Birdview,) but will "bump it." I did not put limits into it as they are not required by the box.

Pretty darn sure I did it "by the book"....and there are those who don't believe the G-box can mover a birdview, but others have said, "no problem."

Plan on applying DC to the motor tomorrow, (12 volt) to verify it can move, and will watch for pulses on a meter. It was functioning fine with 4D driving positioning for FTA, but earlier today, in re-working 4D before taking it offline, there were a few motor errors, which cleared themselves by hitting the "back" button on the 4D and going back to the aligning of dish for programming satellites. Yes, it's cold, nasty weather today, but don't think that's it. Odd that the problem would develop right before retiring the 4D, and then carry through.

Will also check for off-kilter magnet wheel in better weather tomorrow.

Any thoughts from the forum gang appreciated.

The serial number is 0905100035. Bought in August of this year, stored til just recently. One problem could be that I bought one of their "bargains" which is a return.....but apparently it had an issue. I wouldn't have known to check for voltage on the sensor terminals if it weren't for someone else posting info on this site. (Which is SO cool...thanks again for the existence of this site!)

The terms on the Sadoun site seem pretty black & white, and I don't look like I'm eligible for any help, and repair would cost almost as much as another positioner. So, we search. Hope the info you requested helps. It's not their fault I didn't install soon enough to find a problem. Wish I had.

The station is WION in Ionia, MI. I own it, and do management/Mornings. I've removed the G-Box for now, and am putting the 4D positioner back online. I've never had a voltage on a sensor in the old STS, HTS, or 4D receivers as I recall. In fact, the possibility of a voltage on the reed-switch at all was an invitation for failure of the switch/sensor! This is all very interesting!

Yeah, mine was an Ebay auction priced low to start so it may been a return also. One never knows until later. No disrespect intended Sadoun.

I'm cleaning out my closet & have an analog GI2400 & 2000PS I may put up for adoption. If you're interested.;)

At this point, I'm tempted to go back to manual adjustment of FTA dish. (not outside, but not in any way connected to the FTA receiver by a protocol) You know, the funny part is, the old-style "potentiometer" sensor on the ORIGINAL birdview units worked first with a knob, then went digital..and, in all honesty, putting the FTA back to that wouldn't be so terrible! And, they were "remote ready", too..if I can find one digital box with remote for the codes to put into a "learning remote" But yes, I'd look at options right now! Feel free to PM with info, and if possible a pic or two of the unt(s). I agree, by the way on the "no disrespect intended" to a supporter of this site, but...it appears there may be a problem with some of the positioners if I have my collected facts correct.
FaT Air
Since you could move the dish, with a battery, and the Gbox counted the pulses, I tend to think it is drawing too much current. I'd hook it up again with 2 batterys, for 24 volts, and have an ammeter inline, to see what it does draw. There is no other way to rule this out
The shield should not be connected to anything at the Gbox end. Only connect it to ground(metal) at the dish end. (ground loop and/or conduction of RF into the Gbox, where it could cause problems) Also, you can put a small"grain 'o wheat lamp on the sensor leads connected to the Gbox (or other mover) and watch the pulses. Missing pulses are pretty easy to see. I use a 12v, 50ma lamp.Similar to a R/S #272-1092

Thank you to everyone for the input thus far......Here's my general plan...
1) Compare notes with a few other people...
2) Replace G-box.

So, everyone has their own solution to C-band movers. I see GREAT reviews of G-box, I see a few people with problems similar to what mine was, and, I see a few fans of the V-box, and some that have their troubles as well. My G-box put out 15 volts on the sensor terminals....my 4D unit around 3 (across the two sensor terminals, no 5v used for a birdview.) I think the G-box just didn't like the birdview, but I'd be curious to know what the voltage is across others' properly functioning G-boxes.

So, with the resurgence in interest on this site about positioners, I've sold the old G-box (as-is, explaining my problem) and..I'm ready to replace it. I can get a "new" one, not from the catalog return section, I can go "V-box"....or, I can even (maybe??) go back in time to manual changing of position and buy a NOS GI 350ips which appears to be a stand-alone positioner, but manual operation. Or.....skyvision still has the "AP 600" unit, but it doesn't have the automatic interface with my Pansat.

Thoughts?
Voltages on working G-boxes across the sensor terminals (with no load, no wires attached just to settle my curiosity).....?????

Im listening, and I'm GRATEFUL for your input.

From the "Now white" Central West Michigan area....(where we now warn people for 6" of snow...it wasn't that way when I was growing up..)

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Just had a customer come in inquiring about internet. He has HughesNet and had heard good things about mine. He asked if we provided email addresses and it kinda caught me off guard. I said he should be able to keep whatever email he had been using....my sister in law is still using a BellSouth email addy and they haven't been around here for many years. He said he had gotten a letter from HughesNet stating that they had until Nov 16th to save, move, forward, whatever, their Hughesnet emails because they would lose them after that date.

I have never heard of a company simply mass-deleting email accounts (the customer still has his HughesNet service). From what I understand, in the past, the company who was ditching their email service simply sold the customer base to a company like Google.

Anyone else getting this letter. He said he would show it to me tomorrow when I go out there and set up his internet.

Doing a Google of the HughesNet Email notice, it seems that HughesNet has been trying to eliminate hosting emails since 2019. And with HughesNet filing Chapter 11 back in August, it would be a smart move to switch to a more stable Email provider. Even AT&T farmed out their Email to Yahoo! years ago.

SpaceX's Starlink and the Cellular 5G Home Internet solutions have pretty much relegated HughesNet and its high latency, low bandwidth Internet service to History. If Earth had shorter days, maybe a Geostationary Internet Solution might have stood a fighting chance…

Finished it this evening. General impressions with no story spoilers, but will spoil it anyways as it just came out today.

Not quite as impactful of a finale as past seasons I thought, we'll see how far down the rabbit hole things go as the latest plot twists and turns unravel. Thought this season had a full episode or two too much rom-com style disagreements, but it was more or less paid off later. Ultimately didn't enjoy that being more of a throughline in the stories this season compared to what I remember of the priors.

My least favorite of the 3 seasons, but still very good. Really wonder how far they'll go with things, hard to see a nuclear attack or something ever actually happening. They just had a better story to tell and more meaningful beats in the prior season.

Regarding the no sound bug when watching 4K HDR events or DVR recordings with Dolby set to ON:
I got rolled back to H708 last night after getting an email from the support team. It fixed the bug.

The email indicated that they believed they found the issue, and if the fix works, they would roll it out via an update in the coming weeks.

So... we should see that bug exterminated in the near future.

Hmmm, I'm not seeing anything like those events in our Hopper 3 guide for tonight or Saturday.🙁

I went into the Tools menu and requested a Guide Update. I'll try looking at it after the update completes.

edit — I now have the 148-01 4KFox events for Saturday, but not anything for 148-02 or 148-03 which don't even show as available channels. I do have 148-04 4KUSA.

Apple has finally released their Apple TV 4K with built-in Siri and a microphone so it can respond to your queries even if you don't have the remote. It also increases in price, to $299. I had been planning on updating my current Apple TV 4K streamers, but that's $600 for the two of them, and that's a pass at this point.

At $299, it had better come with 256 GB of Storage, Gigabit (or better) Ethernet, the latest HDMI tech and standards, and one year of free Apple One. But it probably won't…

Not a bit. IMO, apple's are slow to boot up. Time is about the same with 1st gen and 3rd. Roku runs rings around them in that department. I only stick I with the Apple tv's is the Apple infrastructure, which has it's definite advantages. But $300 is not worth sticking with it. Later, Apple!

PISTONS and THUNDER are finally testing on the stream server. PISTONS is showing the Ion/Scripps Sports promo loop filler that their NHL and WNBA feeds have, THUNDER has a "You are watching Thunder+" slate

The Clippers still haven't officially announced their TV plans beyond 10 simulcasts on KTLA, but the NBA's FAQ for ClipperVision is now live. The CLIPPERS feed is currently showing a loop of their Hawaii preseason game.

The Heat still haven't announced their West Palm Beach or Fort Myers affiliates. Since WPLG is streaming the games for free via their app, I doubt we'll be seeing the return of WPLG on stream.

So far nothing testing for the Bucks, Magic, Hawks or Hornets.

For quite a while now, people with a VIP211k have been losing their recordings on their activated external HDDs... even when there's nothing physically wrong with HDD. I believe this is an intentional and underhanded tactic that Dish is pulling in an attempt to force users away from the VIP211k.

They are obviously regretting that they ever let users have a "non-dvr" dvr in the first place. You would think they would be happy charging you a $40 one time fee... and then be happy letting the customer be the one responsible for HDD failures.

Dish clearly hates the 211k bitter-clingers. This recording deletion problem is intentional (IMO), and I think it is just one more tool that they are using. Hopper and a 2-year agreement... that's what they want you to have. Think about that... a 2-year agreement... with a company $30 Billion in debt (that's with a B). What happens when all that debt causes them to drop the channel that may have been your whole reason for having Dish in the first place? Guess who's stuck with a service that no longer suits their needs... for the remainder of the 2-year agreement.

On top of that, they don't want you to install it yourself. I purchased and installed all my equipment myself. That used to be common. Now, they lie to me and tell me that my dish must be updated to use a Hopper. Funny thing is... they don't even know what dish I have because they didn't install it, and I didn't tell them. If you ask what type of dish/LNBs the hopper needs... good luck getting an answer. All they know is that whatever you have needs to be upgraded by an installer.

It is quite apparent to me that they care much more about staying in their box, than they do working with the customer. That's too bad, because it hasn't always been that way. It's like they are totally unaware of the current business environment that they are trying to compete in.

I have been a customer since 2010. I will be cancelling my service before the next period. Yeah, I know, my $1,200 a year won't make a difference to them. It just seems like they have forgotten who needs who, especially when you consider the competition in today's streaming world. But hey, they will have succeed in forcing me off the 211k.

Actually, it is. A couple of people PMed me when I posted this, and when I asked for an address, they never responded. Then I just sort of let it go. Send me a PM to continue the discussion

Well, after nine months of being on pause, I finally figured out that I was wasting $5 a month. So I cancelled. For the first time since 2010, I no longer have a Dish account.

I do have to say that I did appreciate the account pause option. That just gives a person some time to see what the fallout of cancelling will be... without having to go all the way over the cliff first.

Since I never once had an "oh shoot, I need Dish Network for..." moment, the decision was a lot easier.

Funny enough, when I called to cancel (for real, not playing the pricing game), all of a sudden, they were offering me deals that I was told before that I couldn't get without changing out my VIP211k. Now, I could have had those specials with them just sending me a new card for the receiver. LOL!

Of course, my mind was already made up because of having not missed the service while on pause. That, and the fact that I bet the 211k still kills recordings.

All in all, I'm glad that I had Dish for all those years. I just outgrew the need, and they pressed the issue by deleting recordings. I would have eventually went this route without the deleted recordings issue. But, for sure, that did hasten the outcome.

I'll still pop in at this site from time to time. Believe it or not, I still have a C/Ku BUD that I intend on playing with again if life ever slows down.
