Yep...you knew there HAD to be a story where SOMEONE got screwed over...in this case, it was 400 SB 45 ticket holders. I wonder how Goodell and Jerry Jones are gonna spin THIS ONE?!

Displaced fans will receive free Super Bowl tickets next year

By Chris Chase

The 400 Super Bowl ticket holders who lost their seats at Cowboys Stadium because a temporary seating structure wasn't approved by a fire marshal will be guests at next year's Super Bowl, the NFL announced on Monday. Displaced fans will also receive $2,400, triple the face value of the $800 tickets that went to waste.

The move was the league's initial attempt at damage control from the embarrassing incident, which they admitted to knowing about early last week. It's a fine effort but makes the mistake of presuming that more tickets and money can replace the experience of watching your favorite team in the Super Bowl.

"It's not the money. It's the whole issue. We came here for the memories and it's not happening," said Wayne Rusch, a Green Bay Packers fan told CNN on Sunday.

I get that the NFL wants to make a nice overture toward the displaced fans, but how are a few hot dogs and Pepsis going to make up for the fact that some people traveled for days and incurred huge costs to watch their favorite team play in the Super Bowl, only to arrive at the game and find out they didn't have a seat. The $2,400 (which is triple the face value of the $800 ticket) is a fair amount, but I doubt it covers what some people spent on airfare, hotel, car rental, meals and lost time at work. Some of those 400 fans may have bought tickets on the secondary market, where the average ticket was going for around $3,500. One man told Fox40 News in Dallas that he paid a total of $9,000 to attend the Super Bowl.

The cost is only one concern. Folks were understandably livid on Sunday night when they discovered their section was closed.

The reality of the situation is that the NFL can't make up for what happened. Getting tickets to Super Bowl XLVI only matters if the Packers or Steelers are in that game. What interest would a Green Bay fan have in seeing the Patriots and Falcons play in next year's title game? And who's paying for them to get to Indianapolis for the game? Or to stay in a hotel? Or pay taxes on the cost of the reimbursement package, which the IRS will certainly consider a gift? The NFL should step up and pay those costs too. (And that's assuming there even is a Super Bowl next year with labor strife looming.)

The league is making the best of a bad situation, but the bad situation was completely of its own doing. It wasn't an unforseen circumstance that led to these folks getting kicked out of the stadium. It was a baffling oversight by whoever was in charge of getting the seats ready.

A police officer told a reporter that the ice storm which paralyzed Dallas earlier in the week played a role in the delay of the construction of the seating structure. You're telling me that Ines Sainz and that guy from "The Tonight Show" could get to the stadium on media day, but construction workers couldn't? The Cowboys' last home game was before Christmas! The Cotton Bowl was played in the stadium on Jan. 11! Surely there was enough time to put up some stands and get them approved.

Jerry Jones and the NFL blew it. They were so concerned with party plazas and attendance records that they ignored 400 football fans who spent time and money to come see their favorite time in the Super Bowl. Empty gestures can't solve that.

They say everything is bigger in Texas. Even the debacles, it seems.

All this because Jerry wanted to set an attendance record ....
Jerry is the one they should be suing, not the NFL, the NFL isn't the one that added seats at the last minute to set a record ...

Sorry, but that statement is not true. The NFL sent the company from New York to put in the extra seats. When it became apparent that the company from New York was not going to finish the seats in time, Jerry Jones brought in another company to help finish the job. This was in the Dallas Morning News. I'm not a defender of Jerry Jones by any means, but the NFL was squarely in the middle of this mess.

The NFL has NO need to set a record for attendance.

You stated "the NFL isn't the one that added seats at the last minute to set a record". The NFL are the ones that hired the firm from New York to install the additional seats. Not Jerry Jones. If they didn't want to set an attendance record, why are they the ones who hired the seating construction company? Jerry did hire an additional company to assist the NFL crew when he saw they were not getting the job done. I am not by any means a fan of Jerry Jones, but he is not the only one responsible for the seating disaster.

Hmmm, wonder what he had to pay the NFL for that ...

His point is that the NFL had to approve the decision for additional seats, no matter what the reason. They also chose such poor contractors to begin with that they couldn't get the job done by game time even when Jerry tried to step in to get it done. Jerry has to play by the NFL's rules. I think he would've been better off if he were able to call all the shots himself.

And STILL More :

NFL offers more to fans

Associated Press

DALLAS -- The NFL upped the ante again Tuesday for the 400 fans displaced by problems with temporary seats at the Super Bowl.

Spokesman Brian McCarthy said the league e-mailed all the fans to offer either $5,000 or reimbursement for "actual documented" Super Bowl expenses, whichever figure is higher.

The latest offer is the third and most valuable option for fans who had tickets but no seats in Cowboys Stadium for Green Bay's 31-25 victory against Pittsburgh on Feb. 6.

The NFL decided to extend another offer after commissioner Roger Goodell talked to fans over the past week, McCarthy said in an e-mail.

The first offer was for $2,400 -- three times the face value of the affected seats -- and a ticket to next year's Super Bowl. The league soon added a second option of a ticket to any future Super Bowl plus airfare and hotel costs.

"As you may know, we have been reaching out directly to those fans who regrettably and inexcusably were unable to watch Super Bowl XLV from a seat in Cowboys Stadium," the e-mail to fans stated. "In listening to your feedback, we have decided to offer a third option."

The seating issue has sparked at least two lawsuits against the NFL and the Dallas Cowboys, and the lead attorney for one of the suits was unswayed by Tuesday's move. Attorney Michael Avenatti said the NFL still isn't offering reimbursement for all Super Bowl expenses, or addressing fans who were delayed or relocated to "substandard" seats.

"The NFL and its lawyers need to come clean with the fans as to their right to full compensation and sit down with us to fairly resolve this matter," Avenatti said.

About 1,250 seats were declared unsafe hours before the Super Bowl, and the NFL scrambled to find new seats for about 850 fans. The remaining 400 were forced to watch from standing-room areas or on TV from places with no view of the field.

Documents released after the game show that the Cowboys were slow to respond to requests for building permits needed to install the seats, and indicated that a contractor walked out on the job in the days before the game.

They didn't sell many, they were pricey and not out long. Quickly got replaced by the Hopper.

They were high-end specialty, somewhat buggy and the 612/622/722 just overwhelmed it in popularity.
HipKat
I think they were more of a transitional receiver bridging the VIPs to the Hopper. They were a PITA to install and were buggy. Personally, I thought at the time that they were the best receiver out there. The versatility of the VIP's with the new Hopper GUI and, by far, the coolest-looking front plate and lighting.

I don't recall that they came out just before hopper, but rather that they came out even before 722. Or could be thinking of 921.

As to the title pf the post, "rare" does not necessarily mean valuable or desirable.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

I'm also seeing longer appearances of the blue bar at the top and the "3 blue bars" loading symbol.

Was down due to an emergency update at the ISP. They did email me seconds before they took it down and apologized for the short notice.

However once the server was back online NGINX failed to start.

I was at the grocery store and just rebooted the entire server and everything came back up again.

Just got home from the grocery store I will bring in the groceries and then take a look at what NGINX failed the first time.

Ok checked it out and for some reason the web server (NGINX) tried starting before the DNS resolver fully loaded. This is why it worked when I rebooted the machine.

Thanks to ChatGPT it had me change the NGINX config to prevent this from happening again.

With that said I can't prevent the ISP from doing emergency upgrades which was the cause of all of this.

Has anyone noticed an FF stutter with 713? I used to be able to hit FF a few times and skip smoothly. After 713 (maybe 712), when I skip forward, there is a definite stutter for as many times as I have pressed FF.

Can anyone check on this and report back? Recorded programs and then press skip forward a few times to see if it's smooth? Normally, it just jumps to the right place after the skips.

It's a known issue.
For a temporary fix, go into the menu, Audio, and turn Dolby Audio "OFF". You will have PCM stereo audio.

I was able to give the tech ops team some data logs so they could diagnose the problem, and they rolled me back to H708 temporarily. It fixed that issue.

They let me know that they understand what caused the issue, and it will be fixed within a few weeks in a new update.

The number-one US state for EV growth, according to the June 22 Yardi report?
Oklahoma.

:eek

It has no ZEV mandates and "minimal" incentives, Yardi says, but also has cheap electricity, high multi-car household rates (so, for example, a non-Lightning Ford F-150 pulls their trailers), and a consumer base willing to switch.

Never realized that Tesla is losing to BYD at manufacturing too, which IMO is Tesla's biggest accomplishment and area of innovation. Nice writeup about the state of play and how we got here though. I have no faith that we're moving any productive direction though sadly, most changes and efforts feel reactionary rather than rooted in making use of the time being bought by tariffs, with few exceptions.

So: how are the cars so cheap, and what is being cut to get there? The best public accounting comes from the Rhodium Group, which compared BYD, Geely, and Leapmotor against Tesla's Chinese operation, a fair comparison because it removes labor costs and shipping from the equation entirely. Their estimate is that BYD builds a car for about $4,700 less than Tesla builds a Model 3 in Shanghai, roughly 15 percent of the Model 3's price. The breakdown is the interesting part. Direct government grants account for about $292 per vehicle, which is 5 percent of the gap. The biggest single factor is vertical integration: BYD makes about 80 percent of its top-tier components in-house, against 37 percent for Tesla, and that eliminates roughly $2,369 per vehicle in supplier markups. Lower overhead, meaning cheaper engineering talent and administrative cost spread across enormous volume, accounts for another $1,719. And BYD pays its suppliers on 155-day terms, against Tesla's 60, which is worth about $214 per car in float. When people say the Chinese advantage is subsidies, the per-vehicle number says otherwise. When people say it is slave wages, the Tesla Shanghai comparison says otherwise too. The advantage is mostly that BYD decided, twenty years ago, to make its own batteries, its own motors, its own power electronics, and its own semiconductors, and Western automakers decided the opposite.
harshness
The EV company to watch out for is SAIC. They seem likely to take over Government Motors at some point.

GM originally struck a JV deal with SAIC to gain access to China. Now SAIC has taken China back with the substantial library of technology GM shared and they're looking to export to Mexico, South America, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.

On the West Coast, a 40-cent differential is common. It used to be 30 cents before the prices rose above $3.

A "full dollar more" sounds like it may be boat gas (non-alcoholic), which is a whole different discussion.
