I bought a 12 foot Com-tech Portable dish. I am lost as how to setup the Feedhorn and LNBs on it. There is a cover on the front of the feedhorn and on the side. It looks like you can bolt LNBs to both covers. There is also a couple of gears. Is this to adjust Skew? I am also not sure how to set the elevation. I would like to point it at 87w, 91w, or 135w. I know how to setup Ku dishes but I am new to C-band. I already have the mount level on it. Does anyone have any recommendations on which LNB to buy? There is no motor control for this.

Can't see the back side of the dish, but I'll bet there's a place you can stick in inclinometer.
I wouldn't want to take a 12' board up the middle on the front side, just to check the elevation. :)
The mount being plumb may not really matter much for fixed operation (more critical if you're motorized).

That knob below the feed looks like your skew.
Maybe you pull down on the lanyard, then twist the knob half a turn at a time (?)
Suspect it'll be obvious to ya, once you play with it a bit.

For the dirty middle of the dish, I'd go with a power wash.
Some guys have discussed a stiff brush, hot water, soap, and maybe a little bleach for cleaning.

You've already got an orthomode feed (two LNBs, one for each polarity).
And a fancy matching scalar.
Life doesn't get much better.
Not sure how to clean it, though. Kinda have a similar problem myself.

Depending on your intentions, you might go with inexpensive LNBs like these from Galaxy Marketing.
Think HyperMegaSat is one of their dealers (unless I am corrected).
Or, you could invest in higher quality Norsat 8515 LNBs, such as these.
Considering it's a 12' dish, and not motorized, I might just go with the cheaper ones.
Yes, you need two.

To hook the LNBs to your receiver, most folks use a multiswitch, like a 2x4, or 4x4.
Pendragon described a very nice 4x8 that is very cheap (see the thread).
While it may seem overkill, it was the cheapest solution I could find.
The mod gives 18 volts to both the V and H LNBs for best performance.
You can try an unmodified multiswitch at first, and see if the Vert transponders seem compromised (should still work).
Even a lowly $5 surplus 2x2 multiswitch would be enough, but stumbling over one is less likely.

Cool I ordered 1 lnb for it I suppose I will order another now. The dish came with an inclinometer. The LNB that came with it has a different fitting on it. I think it came with some of the switches you speak of but they have the bigger style connector on them. You aren't talking about the Diseqc switches are you? I have several of those. It also came with a smaller feedhorn which I think the guy said was for Ku but I just want Cband for now.
T
Multiswitches provide 2 polarities to multiple receivers. They're a great way to combine 2 lnbs into a single cable for receivers that use voltage switching.

Back in the day, including 4dtv, receivers supported 2 inputs, 1 per polarity, most today use voltage switching on a single input.

The Ku lnb flange will be smaller and square compared to the cband rectangle shape. The collector or arm for ku is different to cband. From your pictures it doesn't look like the feed horn supports ku.

For an example check out the chaparral supercorator which supports cband and ku on a single feed horn using a polariser servo.

Just reread your last post, you have a separate ku feed horn which is correct.

I think the ku feed has a different feedhorn. So I need to get a multiswitch to plug the 2 lnbs into a main coax which I can then feed into a diseqc switch?

Basically, yes.

2 lnbs, 1 polarity each will go into a multiswitch 13volts and 18volts.

You could then connect a receiver directly to the multiswitch, to a receiver port. The receiver will switch polarities using voltage.

You only need the disecq if you have multiple dishes that you want to use on the same receiver.

What the multiswitch does is effectively turn the 2 lnbs into a lnbf.

For the naysayers who did not think this service would make it, just added another 4.9M subscribers and that was after the removal of 1.2M Russia subscribers.

This is even better, Paramount+ revenue grew 120% and Subscription revenue grew 74% year-over-year ( 2nd quarter 2021/ 2nd quarter 2022) to $830M, principally reflecting paid subscriber growth on Paramount+.

Now compare that to Peacock with only 13 million paid, 13 million free.

Just noticed, CBS shows on Paramount+ are now same day premieres vs next day, which is how they used to be.

Also in 4K/HDR/DV.

I wonder how providers feel about this, they pay an expensive per sub fee for CBS, who is giving another positive reason to drop Paid Live TV and subscribe to P+.

So, this means that those of us with Commercial Free subs, won't be Commercial Free, unless we wait till after the show is over ?
Which would make same day, not that big of a deal.

Paramount+ has always had the CBS shows on the CBS local channel and yes with commercials. What they are doing now is releasing the OnDemand versions of the show which I believe they don't release until after the shows air on the west coast. And they will be commercial free if you subscribe to the ad free version of Paramount+.

So, the New season won't be on the same day commercial free ???

Looks like the On Demand will Still be the Next Day ...

If you have the Top tier, you could get the LIVE Network feed same as any Cable or OTA would.

  • Premiere date: Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026
  • Release schedule: Weekly on Tuesdays
  • Network: CBS
  • Streaming: Paramount+*

*New episodes of NCIS stream live on Paramount+ as they air on CBS for subscribers of the Paramount+ Premium plan. Episodes stream on demand on Paramount+ on the day after they air on CBS for all subscribers.

Watching it on the CBS local on Paramount+ is the exact same as watching it on your CBS local on your current cable/satellite/mvpd/vMVPD service. The OnDemand versions of it can be released on the same day that it airs but usually it is after the show airs on the west coast so if you have a show at 7:00 pm in your time zone and it airs 3 hours later on the west coast at 10:00 pm your time then they could release it at 11:00 pm your time if it was a one hour show. I really have not checked to see what time I can see the ad free OnDemand shows on Paramount+. I know today that last nights FBI and CIA show did not pop into the Up Next row on my Apple TV until this afternoon. I guess it may have been in Paramount+ since last night but I never checked it.

While on many of the sports channels and non sports channels there is a multi view option button. It will pull up a side bar with many different multi view options.

If it wasn't for what I want, I wouldn't need any of this.

Do I need a collection of handheld radios, scanners and speed enforcement countermeasures? Nope, but I want them. Very little, if any of the software used to interface with these devices is available on Linux.

For niche use cases, yes I agree. Kali for ethical hacking and security testing, and running a Cacti server for network monitoring are the two things I have experience in. Plus thousands and thousands of other things, but for every day use I just can't see it. The owner of the GMRS repeater that I pay to access is changing the Tx DPL tones tomorrow, while Chirp is available on Linux, the software to program my MXT500 is not.

I run Fedora and Ubuntu in VMWare, honestly I don't care much for the UI of either of them and I don't feel like spending days/weeks to customize the UI to make it look Windows-like when I could just use Windows. The cartoonish dock at the bottom of the screen reminds me of Apple products.

What is so fantabulous about the Windows UI? By many accounts, it has been going downhill since Windows 7.

There are Linux desktops that offer Windows or Mac UIs, yet you don't hear much chatter about them outside of questions about when the creators might get sued.

Because it's what I prefer. I know I've said this a few times, I use Open Shell to give me the cascading start menu a la WIN 95 and NT4.0. The only reason I went from Windows Vista to 7 back in the day was because of Classic Shell. I cannot stand anything other than the OG start menu from 30+ years ago. I'm using ExplorerPatcher to give me Windows 10 UI elements of the taskbar and right click context menus.

If you could take a look at how I set up Windows 95, you'd find many similarities to how I use 11.

I could probably use that as a starting point, but I don't like the full size icons. If you have to click on each folder that's also a no-go for me, it has to be cascading.

I used to have Peppermint Linux in a VM, that was about as close as I could get to recreating a Windows NT4.0 style of menu structure, but I could never get it to scale properly in VMWare on a 4K display and eventually gave up.

Whatever the boot up time it's fine with me. The longest part of my bootup is the HP SureStart BIOS integrity check. Once that is done, it's only a few more seconds. I haven't done this reg tweak yet since the reformat, but I switched the bootup animation to the Windows 10 style spinning circle of dots, and it's two and a half rotations. I can live with that.

I hope you don't believe that makes it wonderful (especially when you're using workarounds for Microsoft's malfeasance).

I use LibreOffice as opposed to Microsoft office (even in Windows) because it's UI is like the Office of old, so I'm putting my money where my mouth is (in a manner of speaking). The ribbon was one of the worst ideas to come out Redmond.

I used to pin the C: drive to the Win Taskbar and it would open in cascading style

For some reason, the satelliteguys.us site is loading a lot slower than usual on both Chrome on my Asus laptop and Safari on my iPhone.
I'm also seeing longer appearances of the blue bar at the top and the "3 blue bars" loading symbol.
Is anyone else also having the same problem? Thanks in advance.

Not for me, mines has no mention of how long aka the offer period and the Terms and conditions the $0.00 is good for. All I see is one can lose $5.00 if you decide to remove it before day 31 after you add it to the account.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....
