1st off, I looked for but couldn't find the PC tuner card forum. It seems to have been removed?

OK, I've got a real mess going on..

I just put a brand new ASUS screen on my satellite PC.

It's a PC screen not a TV but I'm using it primarily as a TV.

In the past I had two screens on the pc, one is a Vizio 720p 32" screen in another room and the other was an OLD school GIANT pc screen with a tube, it weighs like 100lbs. Really. It's a 21" screen and it's huge.

The Vizio runs at 720p but the other screen runs at a different resolution. And the sound, in one room it was over the laser wire and in the other room it's from regular wires to little PC speakers.

A total mismatched setup.

Every time I would go from one room to the other I would have to terminate the satellite app, My Theater, open the sound card properties in windows and change it from the laser sound to the wired sound (or the other way around), turn off the screen, go to the other room, turn on the screen and speakers in there.

If I didn't do it just like that, the My Theater app would crash badly and cause me a lot of grief, it would go into a black screen that you can't get out of.

So, enough was enough. I have had too much of that and I decided to change things up a little.

So, I bought a new screen to replace that monster beast screen, it's an ASUS VH238 LED screen.
And to make sure that ALL the screen in the house run the same resolution I bought a box for the HDMI to split it 4 ways.
It has one HDMI in and four out. It passes the sound through as well.
I also bought an Nvidia GTS 450 video card.
And to hook them all up, I bought a 6; HDMI cable, a 30' HDMI cable and a 50' HDMI cable. They are a little long but I found out the hard way, cables don't stretch very well. Better to have extra and not need it than not enough.

So, from what I ~think~ should happen, the pc sends HDMI video and sound to the splitter box which then sends it to the two screens. Two for now, two more in the future.

I had total h*ll getting the Nvidia to work. It came up, windows tripped out in it's pants and spent 30 minutes "installing drivers" which I could not interrupt. I did not want windows to install anything.
So I go to Nvidia's site and do the automatic thing and it tells me what to download, I do, install it and it goes through it's own 30 minute install routine! :(

Then it reboots and I have proper video. It came up in 1920x1080 but I didn't want that, I wanted it in 720p to match the capabilities of the Vizio as it can not do 1080p, it can only do 720p or 1080i and I don't want 1080i !!!!
So I reset the screen resolution to what I want and it looks GREAT on the new ASUS screen. But, no sound. :(

So I spent another two hours uninstalling, reinstalling, uninstalling, reinstalling Nvidia drivers.

Finally, I got the bleepin sound to play over the HDMI wire and I'm super happy with that. Looks awesome, sounds awesome!

But now, My Theater? Flakey. Sometimes I get a picture and sometimes not. I always get the sound but the picture just comes on sometimes. All the other My Theater stuff shows up, the menus, the EPG guide, all indications that it's functioning normally but it's not.

More times than not it has no video and it's a throw of the dice as to if it will work or not.

I can have a channel on, it looks great, sounds great then I change channels and it's a black screen with sound. It's not crashed or locked up because I can bring the My Theater menus up.
I checked to be certain the the video is turned on as there is an option to turn video on/off, I use it frequently when I switch screens from one room to another, a recent trick I learned a few months ago. So that is not the problem.

There is a screen in the menus about the IVR. I have no idea what IVR stands for but I know you can change the screen resolution with it. I tried all the various settings, namely the one for 720p and the one that says IVR with screen resolution. No help with those or any of the others. :(

There is a screen with stuff about "graphs" which I had to fiddle with after the nvidia drivers installed, it changed the sound card settings and MT complained that it couldn't connect to a graph so I went a-clickin till it quit complaining and the sound started working. I had video and sound so I left it alone after that. I do not know what graphs are for. Someone tried to explain it to me once and it went right over my head. I am not a programmer or a hacker. I can click things and follow basic directions but that's the limit of my PC skills. :(

Also, I opened up the VLC player and played back all sorts of things and they all play back perfectly. I have sound and video on everything, it's all in sync and it looks and sounds great to me. So that tells me the problem is with My Theater.

Can someone help me please? I'm tired, frustrated, hungry and have a terrible migraine from these stupid machines. I just can't think clearly to reason this out so I could sure use some clear headed guidance, I'm stuck here unable to watch satellite and it's a major bummer.. :(

I'm open to suggestions and advice because I'm fresh out of everything and at the end of my last nerve on this thing.

Thanks guys! :)

If you can do 150mph in a 1/4 mile, you definitely have my respect! :)

sorry, i have nothing more to offer.. :(

The guy in your avatar, I kind of feel about how he looks. Not the drums guy, the angry, screaming guy.. I feel like that today... :(

As for 150mph and 1/4 mile, I just made up arbitrary numbers out of thin air. It sounded crazy fast to me.
My son tells me "You drive like old people." I told him "I am old people."
So 10 mph over the speed limit is crazy fast to me..
Dee_Ann
I think I fixed it. My remote control is working again after a week or more of not having one at all. THAT was annoying.

I'm not sure if the video is going to work right though, it seems to be after 8 hours of use. I guess I'll know after a few more days..

Fixing PC's is no fun.. I have no patience for it.. Or skills.. :(
Dee_Ann
Um, kinda fixed it..

Since I put the new video card in, and this one is waaaaay more powerful than the one it replaced, the picture is "jerky"

It looks like everything is playing in stop motion. Several times per second the picture freezes for just a split second, just enough to cause the picture to be very unsmooth, like an old stop motion animation film is the best way I can describe it.
When watching anything with motion, it's unbearable. I'm trying to watch the ballet on PBS right now and it's horrible, it's making me insane!

HD stuff, it's really, really bad. Lo-res stuff like MeTV, This, etc. it's not very noticeable. It never did this before I changed the video card... :(

So..

I installed the latest Nvidia drivers. I just checked for updates and it says none are available. I have driver 290.36 installed and I have it even checking everyday for beta updates.

I'm using Mytheater, still, and under settings, Autograph, I have it set for Cyberlink video DVD9.

2011-12-14_205212.jpg

The Cyberlink DVD thing is a few years old. So I got the new one, #11 and installed it.
Now I can not find any way to uninstall the old one, #9. I went to windows uninstall and it's not listed in there, at all.
I looked in the Cyberlink 9 folder and there is no uninstall app listed. I checked for hidden files and have it clicked to show all files, hidden and system.

I got an app called "de-crapify" (really) and it scanned the PC for everything it thinks is installed. It turns up a lot of stuff but not the Cyberlink #9.

I installed the new #11 version and it shows up in the windows "uninstall programs" list but not the #9. Both apps are co-existing on the PC, I can run either program but the only one with an uninstall app is the new one.
I would have thought it would replace and remove the old one during the install. :(

Now when I go into Mytheater is does not list the new #11 version. I can only select the old version.. :(

Why are these things so STUPID?? I really hate computers and they hate me back..

I should just pour gas on my house, toss a railroad flare over my shoulder, go to Tibet and become a Buddhist nun...

:(
T
try ffdshow.... or other codecs elecard is a good one for 422 vids, when messing with dvb never limit urself to 1 thing, kinda the reason that i disliked mytheater over dvbdream

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

I set up a music server for my brother a few years ago. It's basically a small headless computer but it needs to have a DHCP IP address reserved for it in the router settings. This was easy to do in his DSL router. He's switching to Starlink now and I was wondering if these setting are easily accessible in the Starlink router. I'm pretty sure he will be getting the latest V5 router.

If you can't get into the router to reserve an IP address just don't use DHCP on the device that needs connected and assign it to a specific IP address in the network settings.

They are not. Your best bet is to set up a third-party router, attached to the Starlink for your server, that you can get into, like a Linksys, etc

The Starlink V5 Install Kit I just got comes with the Mini Router. It is pretty limited in what it can do. For example, it can provide only one IP subnet at a time, no Guest Network, but it does support the pass-thru to a third-party Router. You can also split the Wi-Fi into separate 5 GHz & 2.4 GHz SSIDs to help some IoT devices that don't support 5 GHz bands to work.

The larger Starlink Router that still comes with the V4 Kit does support a Guest Network with separate IPv4 Subnet, but it's $120 from Starlink. And it still won't do DHCP Reservations.

IS Amiko MIRA 3 any good ???
Can you recommend the best to cover all bases. NO BEEPS on certain channels 101w (NEWSMAX ,NEWS NATION), a clock that keeps working STEADY for timed recording ,solid unit with good lifespan. My Amiko died AND my Linkbox has NO Favorites Button and BEEPS on many channels. Picking up 105 west with a NEW SHED IN THE Way with 6 foot Cband ..95 percent quality ...unbelievable.

That's great!

Many people have all sorts of power bricks laying around. Provided the plug fits, and it's the right polarity and same voltage and the same OR higher amps, why not try another one IF the device you want to try it on doesn't seem to work right.

Some people just call them power supplies (which really isn't a good fit in this case), some call them "wall adapters" but it's an external power supply or AC adapter that converts (AC) from a wall outlet into low-voltage (DC) that an electronic device needs to run.

[Give us a summary of what you receive with a 6-footer. I'm very curious.]

Right now on C band getting 105w, a Mexican channel with 95% quality and I am near Detroit! I'm recording a TECHNO MUSIC FESTIVAL today from Mexico ..if you can believe it.....and yes that SHED is partly in the path so I'm puzzled. There are also christian channels on 105w.

105W has some very strong transponders. I received more than four transponders using a 41-inch dish recently. See here.

Didn't see a thread like this so I figured why not start one. This is about natural supplements. If you aren't into supplements, fine, but please let those of us who do want to discuss this discuss it.

The first one I wanted to mention has been a real life changer. I'm 62 and still do all of my own install work at my business....also do all the yard work at the house. A few years ago I started noticing that I was losing my range of movement, it was even getting hard to bend over and lace up my boots. Almost got stuck in an attic because I couldn't get turned around once the work was done. Didn't think much of it and figured with age comes stiffness that was only going to get worse as time went on.
It was then that I stumbled across a video which was discussing rotator cuff tears and why they were to prevalent these days. Turns out, the culprit is a simple deficiency in MANGANESE which is key in keeping your tendons flexible. Most anti-biotics strip your body of any manganese it might have had which is why certain anti-biotics, especially those in the Cipro family. I actually knew a man who had two tendons tear while on that stuff.
Went to Amazon and ordered some manganese. Now it took a while, it wasn't instant, but gradually I have regained all of my flexibility. I can bend over and touch my toes while standing with no pain and putting on my boots is no longer a chore.
Pretty cheap too. The bottle I ordered was a 200 ct for under $13. They said to take double the normal dose for the first month because most people are severely lacking, then go to one a day.

Chia Seeds
Kinda the whole idea is to mention something and explain WHY it is something we might want to add to our daily routine.
This is what I got from google. Looks like I'm going to be adding them, thanks

Key Health Benefits
    • Digestive Health: One ounce (28 grams) of chia seeds provides nearly 10 grams of fiber, which promotes regular bowel movements, feeds beneficial gut bacteria, and helps prevent constipation. [1, 2]
    • Heart and Cardiovascular Support: Rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA)—an essential plant-based omega-3 fatty acid—chia seeds can help lower blood pressure, reduce triglycerides, and improve cholesterol profiles. [1, 2, 3]
    • Blood Sugar Regulation: The combination of soluble fiber and protein slows down carbohydrate digestion, preventing sharp blood sugar spikes after meals. [1, 2]
    • Weight Management: When soaked in liquid, chia seeds absorb up to 10 to 12 times their weight in water. The resulting gel expands in the stomach, increasing feelings of fullness and curbing appetite. [1, 2, 3]
    • Bone Strength: They contain high levels of calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus, which are vital for maintaining bone density. [1, 2, 3]
    • Antioxidant Protection: Compounds like chlorogenic acid and caffeic acid help fight cellular damage from free radicals and reduce chronic inflammation. [1, 2, 3]

I have taken this stuff for years to help my joints. Over 20 yrs ago my shoulder sounded like it had gravel in it when I rotated it. Started taking this and after a few months I had my range of motion back. I mentioned this product to a doctor and told him the results I had and he totally blew it off....said it was just a coincidence. This has no shellfish like most joint supplements.

Heres an article from the Akron Beacon ... seeing Six Flags has bought Cedar Point and Kings Island, they are included ...
I said earlier that Cedar Point doesn't use this type of seat restraint ... well, it does use it, But the difference is, the ones up here ALSO have the Over the shoulder restraint as well ... like I was suggesting that they should have used with the Goliath.

One of the new(er) one at Cedar point the Gate Keeper, uses the Clam shell .. I have rode it many times and have Mostly felt secure, that ride will stop you part way on the ride and you just hang, till the ride is ready to continue ... I typically ride the Front Car ... when its getting ready, you ARE hanging, in the car, looking down .... it would require 2 separate restraint systems to unlock at the same time to possibly get out of it.

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

There would still be dirt ,dust in the future I am sure. So walking around the station like she did she would get stuff on her feet. I am sure the robot vacuum is still going to miss stuff, with all those different alien species running around there.

Well, the bag can't weigh that much, right? But by law food product packaging must display the actual net weight of the product, i.e., the contents of the container, so by any logic, if not law, a store's stated per-ounce cost should reflect that figure. But since there's not any law regulating shelf statements, a store can say whatever it wants without violating any rules. So I guess the answer is more consumer legislation. Or simply caveat emptor.

I would think that the Vendor/Maker of the product would have a say in it, showing the Correct weight ...
You would think it would be in the contract.

I do look at the ounces of items, but unless its way off, I don't check the math, may have to start now.

Remember when you use to get a 13.5 oz bag of Chips .... Thats a PARTY Size now.

I remember when a pound of coffee was 16oz. Now its 12oz, they don't call it a pound anymore and its three times the cost of the 16oz pound.

Well, they don't call it a pound anymore ....

Ice cream is that way too, use to be a half gallon, now its 1.5 quart or some say 48 oz

The larger discrepancies are likely from a data or sync issue. Digital tags don't cause the error, but they can spread one bad entry across a whole store or region instantly. The small cent differences are probably just rounding in the weight, the price data, or both.

It's simple math. You take the price and divide by the number of ounces and come up with the price per ounce. I find it hard to believe that Walmart's computers can't carry out simple division.

The division isn't the problem, the inputs are. On the Starbucks pods, $9.22 @ $3.35/oz works out to 2.75 oz, but the box is 1.94 oz. So either the system has the wrong weight on file, or the unit price is left over from an older price of about $6.50 that never got updated. Garbage in, garbage out. Walmart's had unit-pricing data problems before, too - in 2024 they paid $1.64M to settle with New Jersey after inspectors found 2,000+ instances of unit prices using the wrong unit of measure.

THAT is most likely the culprit.

So....its intentional. The new fine needs to be a billion $...that would cause someone to fix the issue.

*nit pick* You want cream or more precisely FAT to make ice cream. Milk isn't heavy enough. When making my own, I use half and half.

Wrong unit of measure? Having a hard time believing that or were they conflating solid and fluid ounces (stupid US measuring system).

The first two coffees aren't off on the same amount, so likely the unit price is linked to some previous price. Now I have to *bleeping* double check more math? Does anyone check anything anymore? Bad enough in the professional world having to QA/QC a third party's work. Don't want to have to do that in the grocery store now too! Not with the absurd measures that are used in the US. Is that unit price for blueberries in ounces or pints...

First world problems, but man... argh!!!

You always have the option of moving to a country that uses a unit of measurement that better suits your needs.

Thought this might be a nice diversion, this same guy audited Publix's package weight....yes, I know this is different from the original post on this thread.....and it was accurate.

Love this guy's channel. Looks like Walmart has thrown in the towel when it comes to conventional car batteries.

I bought a new AGM battery from Walmart about a year ago, it is already needing replacing. I thought about just buying a regular battery but from what I've read, that might not be a smart move. Might check my Forscan program and see if I can change the battery type from AGM.
