I'm having the DishNet ( Exede ) Service installed on the 24th, and intend to try to use it heavily.
I'm looking for any and all comments about this service so that I can get a better feel for what I can and can not do.
I'm going to install it on a second wan port , and do testing with it as primary, secondary, load balancing, round robin ... in an attempt to see:
- how quickly the data consumption goes
- how badly the latency comes in to play
With the hopes of ending up using it as my primary full time connection.
The other ( and current ) service is Verizon DSL 3mb ... but I'm a touch past normal service distance and am having frequent noise problems resulting in slow downs and having to manually hard reboot the modem. So far I've avoided the recommendation to reduce my throughput to 1.5mb to allow for a "smother ride".
Note: This is all in my home office, and we are pretty much way out in the country with zero options outside of our very lucky to have copper from verizon. Cell/mobile isnt even really an option since service is spotty and inconsistent. So ... here I looking at sat internet after many years away from it. ( was a beta tester of the *band service, before that had isdn, and before that dial up )
Anyways ... on the exede ...
I regularly do the following:
1) voip on a polycom
2) gotomeeting ( 1 to 3 hrs a day )
3) logmein ( mostly incoming to a xen vm from a remote subcontractor )
4) vpn in a at least two vm's at any given time.
5) ftp and telnet sessions
6) dishnetwork cnn ipad app live streaming.
7) remote access to ms sql and mysql servers
8) regular browsing and email
all with an active AT&T microcell/femtocell
I know this may not be extreme power user stuff to a few of you ... but its not casual user stuff by any means and is a non trivial use of my ( current ) little 3mb problematic pipe.
So ... anyone have experience using exede with any of the above list of activities?
Comments or suggestions on what to do or not to do before, during and once it is installed?

The agreement does not appear to be clear on the 30 day thing at all. way too many qualifications. And my eyes glaze over way too quickly when trying to read it. :-(
I have definitely researched, but not necessarily come away with a definitive view of what the service will really do. I was fully aware of the latency, but not so much its impact on real world results. Some people said real world results were usable, others not really usable. I suppose I'm like many, and subconsciously try to favor the optimistic comments.
Some have said that gotomypc or logmein works perfectly fine. And that they were very happy to find out that they could actually use the vpn's.
Some said the service was garbage for these type of things.
Anyways, on paper .. and your comments tend to support this ... I should not expect it to be really usable as a day to day thing.
So, my current primary plan is to use this as a fail-to pipe. So, when my dsl is down, I use this.
But my hopes are to do much more than this .. based on *some of the user comments.
Anyone know how to run something that would emulate the latency ?
... hows that for an odd thing to want to do?
Introduce a .2 second latency adder ( both ways) ?
Anyways, this may be too late to also ask ... but what if any are the options when cell is spotty, there is no cable, and only one copper path between you and the real world?

I set up a music server for my brother a few years ago. It's basically a small headless computer but it needs to have a DHCP IP address reserved for it in the router settings. This was easy to do in his DSL router. He's switching to Starlink now and I was wondering if these setting are easily accessible in the Starlink router. I'm pretty sure he will be getting the latest V5 router.

IS Amiko MIRA 3 any good ???
Can you recommend the best to cover all bases. NO BEEPS on certain channels 101w (NEWSMAX ,NEWS NATION), a clock that keeps working STEADY for timed recording ,solid unit with good lifespan. My Amiko died AND my Linkbox has NO Favorites Button and BEEPS on many channels. Picking up 105 west with a NEW SHED IN THE Way with 6 foot Cband ..95 percent quality ...unbelievable.

Didn't see a thread like this so I figured why not start one. This is about natural supplements. If you aren't into supplements, fine, but please let those of us who do want to discuss this discuss it.
The first one I wanted to mention has been a real life changer. I'm 62 and still do all of my own install work at my business....also do all the yard work at the house. A few years ago I started noticing that I was losing my range of movement, it was even getting hard to bend over and lace up my boots. Almost got stuck in an attic because I couldn't get turned around once the work was done. Didn't think much of it and figured with age comes stiffness that was only going to get worse as time went on.
It was then that I stumbled across a video which was discussing rotator cuff tears and why they were to prevalent these days. Turns out, the culprit is a simple deficiency in MANGANESE which is key in keeping your tendons flexible. Most anti-biotics strip your body of any manganese it might have had which is why certain anti-biotics, especially those in the Cipro family. I actually knew a man who had two tendons tear while on that stuff.
Went to Amazon and ordered some manganese. Now it took a while, it wasn't instant, but gradually I have regained all of my flexibility. I can bend over and touch my toes while standing with no pain and putting on my boots is no longer a chore.
Pretty cheap too. The bottle I ordered was a 200 ct for under $13. They said to take double the normal dose for the first month because most people are severely lacking, then go to one a day.

Can't help but wonder if a worker overlooked checking the harness. I rarely ride a roller coaster anymore but when I do I check the harness myself pretty aggressively.

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

I don't know, but I still don't like her walking through the station or the academy with out her shoes. It looks unprofessional and very "hippy like" for someone of her status and I personally don't get off to feet, so there is that.

Love this guy's channel. Looks like Walmart has thrown in the towel when it comes to conventional car batteries.
I bought a new AGM battery from Walmart about a year ago, it is already needing replacing. I thought about just buying a regular battery but from what I've read, that might not be a smart move. Might check my Forscan program and see if I can change the battery type from AGM.
