New Avenger PLL321S-2 LNB Installed

Well, that was disappointing. I replaced my current universal LNB with the new Avenger LNB I've been waiting for to arrive in the mail. It finally arrived. I have a good idea of what each satellite's signal should be (even based on time of day / type of weather) and my first impressions of the Avenger were positive. Stable signals, signal quality as high or higher than I expected on each satellite as I swung the motor across the arc.

Suddenly, without warning, I had no signals from any satellite. It was as though somebody had disconnected the cable from the LNB. I went to check the LNB and noticed, probably due to the motor moving, the RG-6 connector had come a little loose. I tightened the connector and put away my tools/ladder so confident I had found the problem. Still no signals.

After monkeying for a while, I ran out of light and had to give up for today. End result is no signals from the Avenger. I did connect my Shaw Direct dish to my FTA receiver and have verified the receiver is fine.

Tomorrow, I will swap my old LNB back in to see if all is OK with that one. I have no switches; my RG-6 runs from my receiver to my motor, and from the motor directly to the LNB.

What happened? Is this Chinese quality control? Did the loosened connector connect/disconnect the voltage several times causing a failure? It was all looking so promising at first try. I had even scanned in MICROHD on 103W which I haven't seen in months since my tree leaves started growing.

Now can you imagine those critters rambling around like that in tall thick grass, in the dark, with mosquitoes biting...that's why I only venture to my dish in (bright) daylight.

I upgraded my microHD firmware so I could get the continuous motor movement. Although it seems I could use some new better cable, as of now, I have all satellies scanned in and I can operate normally with one exception. When motoring to the ends of the arc (15W and east, west of 103W), my dish is like an old man sitting down. It's easy to get down, but it's a struggle to get back up. So when my dish is moving back toward the higher elevations from the ends of the arc, I may need to electronically bump the dish a bit back and forth to get it to move properly. Maybe some commands are getting lost. I've developed a technique.

Bottom line is we should encourage everybody to get PLL LNBs. This device cost no more than a non-PLL, and I have found its performance is wonderful. In almost every case, my SQ on channels is higher perhaps because in many cases I had marginal signals. What's nice is this LNB seems to operate a little like AFC does on an FM radio. As long as the dish is quite near peak, this LNB grabs the transponder signal and you don't need to worry about peaking things much. Therefore USALS is fine to use; no point switching to DiSEqC mode to bump a little here and there (except to get Granpa Motor to move).

I believe that is to be expected. I realize the newer 2100 models have been beefed up. However, that model has many clones out there. I see some ads now claiming 1.2 metre and 33 lbs. I think that is total hype. A couple years ago, they were only good for about 25 pounds.

My starchoice 1 metre weighs 33 pounds. If I had a good LOS for a motor, I'd put a Staab HH120 on it, or possibly the new SG 6100.

The SG2100 served me well while I was using my light Ariza 39" dish. I could tell as soon as I had to struggle to get this new heavier, larger dish into place on the motor that the two likely were not a good pair. This dish is too heavy for that motor. Fortunately, I'm not receiving much of interest west of 103W since 125W is blocked by a hill. Today I spent an hour standing beside the dish and issuing commands so I could see exactly what the dish does. Once the dish goes too far west and you try to motor back toward east, the dish just sits there without moving. When inside you can't know this. One trick is to power down the LNB which reserves maximum power for the motor. And use the Reference command. That gets the dish back to a known point. From there, USALS takes it correctly where you want it to be.

The things we'd do differently if we knew then what we know now.

I guess you are also aware of the other trick is to have the motor move on a horizontal TP. The STB will supply 18v rather than 13v which may help move the stubborn over weight dish.

Never thought of that, but it sounds like a good idea. My motor spec does say that the motor speed at 18V is 2.5 degs/sec and at 13V is 1.9 degs/sec, so the dish will get there faster too.

Site is slooooow

For some reason, the satelliteguys.us site is loading a lot slower than usual on both Chrome on my Asus laptop and Safari on my iPhone.
I'm also seeing longer appearances of the blue bar at the top and the "3 blue bars" loading symbol.
Is anyone else also having the same problem? Thanks in advance.

PHP and a heapin' helpin' of JavaScript.

As dated as it is, PHP is eminently adept at projects like a forum. With modules, it is competitive in flexibility and computational efficiency with tools like Node.js or Ruby (where you must choose from many outboard tools).

I'm surprised Walmart hasn't banned this guy from all of their stores. He has been on their CASE the past few months.

When walmart set a price...they weigh the container and the product...the product label only shows the weight of the product...I am sure if you brought your own plastic baggies to bring the product home you could get the cheaper price

Well, the bag can't weigh that much, right? But by law food product packaging must display the actual net weight of the product, i.e., the contents of the container, so by any logic, if not law, a store's stated per-ounce cost should reflect that figure. But since there's not any law regulating shelf statements, a store can say whatever it wants without violating any rules. So I guess the answer is more consumer legislation. Or simply caveat emptor.

Well, according to the price per ounce on that first bag of coffee he mentions, that would mean the bag weighed over 6 ounces. That bag does NOT weigh 6 ounces. According to Google, an empty bag weighs half an ounce.

You need to weigh the actual bag...a deli bag weighs less than that but a thick coffee bag is gonna weigh around an ounce...an empty tin can has some weight

Products sold by the ounce, pound, etc, should always be priced for the product only. Only the shipping weight should include the packaging.

Unless the specific product or its packaging is known at the time of weighing, estimating the tare weight for a PoS system is a tall order.

I'm pretty sure that produce bags can't get any thinner. ;)

You certainly don't want to put unbagged produce on a belt, scale, or in a clerk's hands (gloved or not).

I would think that all the packaging would already be accounted for ... they weigh the container, subtract that from the scale, then add the product , so its weighing the Product only

Obviously you didn't read my post.....google says a coffee bag weighs half an ounce. But let's say you are correct and it DOES weigh a full ounce, that would still fall 5 ounces shy for Walmart's numbers to match.

It appears we are not getting both home & away feeds out of market on League Pass for these teams either…

I've been watching the Spurs home feed on channel 676-1 (was part time San Antonio specific feed) out of market with NBALP for YEARS on satellite (through the multiple iterations of Fox Sports SW, Bally Sports SW, FanDuel Sports SW) Looks like that will not happen unless a deal is reached with DAZN. I do see the placeholder channel on 680 if it happens.

Center Ice does have the non-carried feeds, including the Hurricanes, Wild, Blues and Blue Jackets and spotbeam local only teams like the Panthers, Mammoth and Golden Knights. So it probably depends on the available part time bandwidth each night as things they are able to provide to in market viewers in the 600s, PPV Events in the 100s and commercial events in the 9000s get priority first, along with games where neither team has a remappable feed.

League Pass tonight for example (it is almost a full slate tonight):
Hawks @ Magic (only Hawks feed which is easy to insert since its OTA this season and simulcast across multiple Gray Television markets, Magic signed a non- exclusive streaming deal with DAZN and also OTA)
Bucks @ Wizards (only Wizards feed easy to remap, Bucks are OTA & there own streaming service Bucks+)
Hornets @ Nets (only Nets feed which DirecTV already carries so simply YES remap, Hornets signed non-exclusive streaming deal with DAZN, also OTA)
Bulls @ Raptors (Bulls only feed via CHSN remap, its common that we don't get Raptors feeds that often)
Jazz @ Grizzlies (Jazz only feed OTA easy to insert, Grizzlies signed streaming deal with DAZN)
Pacers @ Pelicans (Pelicans only feed which is OTA easy to insert, Pacers signed streaming deal with DAZN)

Maybe it will change but it looks like DirecTV may only carry DAZN feeds on NBA LP when there is no other option, such as when two teams (either Cavaliers, Pacers, Grizzlies, Timberwolves, Spurs) that are both DAZN exclusive are playing each other, we shall see as the season goes on I guess.

This NBA season will be the first in a long time where many League Pass games are carried on feeds DirecTV doesn't normally carry or are only available through OTA spot beams. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out, especially whether we eventually get both home and away feeds for these teams out of market again.

Now in the Hornets and Hurricanes markets we just get the TV promise screen. But Directv still charges sports fee I am assuming.
Luckily my DTV stream package doesn't have a rsn fee. Figure DTV that always says is the leader in sports would have come to an agreement by now.

Greenville-New Bern is $11.99 for MASN (Orioles) and Nationals
Raleigh is $11.99 for MASN and Nationals
Charlotte is $12.99 for BravesVision, MASN, Nationals and Reds

The fee in NC also includes the higher in state rate they have to pay for ACCN. Down in SC the fee is $15.99 as they are also a SEC state.
I'm not sure if they're doing it with those teams, but in some markets they also use the fee to cover the additional cost they have to pay for independents and MyNet stations that picked up full season NHL and NBA rights.

If you go to the TVPromise site, you'll likely be able to get a credit for not getting the Hurricanes and additional Hornets games that air on WITN-D2

Part of the hold out might be the packaging and price for outer areas like how the Thunder needs sports pack for other states. Hopefully they are also pushing for a guarantee from the teams that they would require whoever wins their local broadcasting rights in 2028 to negotiate with MVPDs. Commercial distribution rights are probably a factor too.

I'm guessing they got a deep discount for the Clippers based on how long it took them to officially announce ClipperVision and their KTLA simulcasts after they were basically handed a multi-year draft death penalty.

The Predators and Pistons channels are using feeds supplied by Scripps Sports

The Heat likely depends on whoever they sign for the Fort Myers DMA, as there's no point in paying a high price for the Heat just for that DMA when WPLG is streaming it for free on their app and website for viewers in the Miami DMA, and they already carry the West Palm Beach station.

I tried this with both the Hurricanes and Hornets since I'm in upstate SC, and wasn't offered any kind of credit by the site. It's not a huge deal to me as I can pick up WSOC/WAXN over the air at my location even though I'm outside the Charlotte market.

Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson had an argument about who was responsible for the dynasty building of the early 90's Cowboys.

The rest of us figured it out in about 3 years, Jerry has had over 30 years but still can't admit it. It's all he lives for, to show everyone he can put together a winner. I don't think he can. His kids only know what he taught them.

NFC East. For the 2nd straight week no team from this clown show of a division won a game. Eagles are cooked without Hurts. Who's not that good anyway. Commanders suck, Dallas is well ..... Dallas and the Giants have no QB.

Ravens. Lamar is out (as usual). But still. Losing to the Browns is never ok.

Chargers. Still can't win.

Rams. So much for the powerhouse team. They are 2 games under .500

Seattle. Lost to the offenseless Broncos.

Jerry made himself General Manager after he bought the team but make no mistake Jimmy engineered that trade. As well as a lot of others at the time.

Just finished S2. Watching Gary Oldman as deshvilved, dejected MI-6 agent, Jackson Lamb, is one of the best things streaming right now. Already 2 more seasons in the works. HIGHLY recommended. And yes, Mick Jagger sings the theme.

I think this new season is a little too slow of a burn (as of ep #4, probably due to new show runner. However, I can't wait to find out what's up with Taverner!

Well, the season finale went balls to the wall. Non stop action and several twisted twists. Gary Oldman at his best. Very well written and executed. Tavener owes Jackson big time. Only "if" was Jack Lowden's (River) cliffhanger, especially admin-st the buzz that he is the next James Bond in waiting.
