DISH Guarantees $250 Savings to Satellite Pay-TV Customers Who Switch
Release Date:
Tuesday, February 10, 2015 7:11 am MST
Terms:
Dateline City:
ENGLEWOOD, Colo.
  • DISH guarantees that DirecTV customers will save at least $250 when they switch to DISH
  • Real consumers show what they would do for $250 in DISH challenge-themed video series
  • New customers can receive America's Top 250 package, including more than 250 channels for $39.99 per month for 12 months
ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DISH Network L.L.C. (NASDAQ: DISH) announced today that it launched a value-themed campaign targeting DirecTV customers. The promotion, which runs through April 8, highlights the savings that DirecTV customers receive when they switch to DISH. The campaign challenges DirecTV customers to ask themselves "Why pay more?" for the same programming and service they get with DirecTV. On average, DirecTV customers spend approximately $250 more annually than DISH customers.

"Consumers' purchase decisions are often closely tied to value, and our new campaign highlights DISH's undeniable advantage in price plus technology over DirecTV," said James Moorhead, senior vice president and chief marketing officer. "With DISH, customers get the same channels, shows and the sports they love, and we save them hundreds in their first year. When combined with the industry's most awarded DVR, the Hopper, choosing DISH becomes an easy decision."

To illustrate the value of its service, DISH created a series of short videos asking real consumers what they would do for $250. The series, released on DISH's Twitter and Facebook pages, reveals how far consumers are willing to go in order to get $250. The videos highlight that people do not need to go to extreme lengths to save money; they can save $250 by switching to DISH. The complete video set is available on the DISH Challenge website, as well as DISH's YouTube channel.

How to take the DISH Challenge

DirecTV customers interested in taking advantage of this limited-time offer will need to complete the following steps:

  1. Customers should visit DISHChallenge.com to see a price comparison. To see if they qualify for the promotion, customers can chat live with a representative from the DISH Challenge website, or call DISH at 1-800-CALL-DISH (1-800-2255-3474) and ask to take the Challenge.
  2. If the customer qualifies, a DISH customer service representative will work with the customer to determine the best package for their home and interests.
  3. The customer will then need to set up an appointment for installation.
  4. If DISH is not able to save the new customer $250 in their first year, the customer will need to submit their last DirecTV bill for online verification.
Other requirements of the DISH Challenge

  • Promotional prices will require a 24-month commitment with AutoPay and Paperless Billing, as well as a credit qualification. The offer will not be available in Puerto Rico or USVI.
  • To participate in the Challenge, new customers must chat live with a representative from the DISH Challenge website or call DISH at 1-800-CALL-DISH (1-800-2255-3474) and ask to take the DISH "Challenge."
  • If the customer's first year savings are determined to be less than $250 after switching to DISH, the customer will be eligible for a $250 prepaid card after new service activation.
  • Savings calculations are based on an annualized comparison of the customer's last monthly DirecTV bill and their first DISH bill for comparable services and equipment, as determined by DISH.
  • Requires online validation of the new customer's last monthly DirecTV bill within 60 days of activation. Customers should expect to allow 6-8 weeks for the delivery of the prepaid card.

Don't be surprised if DirecTV counters with an identical offer. DTV can play hardball with Charlie all day long.

Problem with Comcast and the other major cable providers, is they force the telephone on you. The double play would work for most, since the cell phone. The telephones just carry far to many taxes. I had one last year for a couple months, the plan was $9.99, the taxes made it $23.99(give or take a dollar), which was ridiculous.

Most correct. I would have to bundle at triple pay to POSSIBLEY save a LITTTLE BIT of money for what I get today, but for that meager savings I also get the crappy cable co DVR (in my area back to a seperate DVR for each room and in every other way inferior to Hopper or Genie) and pay the FULL fees for each DVR and OTHER fees that, upon adding it all up, actually cost me MORE than my top tier package, premium with several add-ons and 2 Hoppers and many Joeys--and that is getting from cable what I get today from Dish. Now, as much as I would LOVE to have the option of FiOS, it works out to being a bit more than $20 per month MORE expensive for the same programming and comparable equipment I get with Dish, but the savings with a bundle disappears once the bundles are added on top.

FWIW: I have Ooma, and even cable telephone can't come close to the massive savings with Ooma (and far more and powerful features). So the cable co would expect me to increase my monthly phone bill 3 to 4 times what it is today for a "savings" bundle. Then I have to add the ISP to that, as well, and that kills the bundled "savings". For me, my current set-up of Dish for TV, Ooma for phone, and cable co for ISP (I have NO OTHER CHOICE for broadband--certainly not since the FCC's new definition of broadband) actually works at CHEAPER than if I dared to bundle with the cable co--and get the cable co crap DVR and other problems. I'm glad if some people do save money on bundling, but I think many people don't really run the numbers or feel wedded to a bundle just for the notion it is a cost saving move, while often complaining about how bad their cable TV service is.

You said probably better than I have but that is exactly what I have found when I did do a real comparison. Change out VoicePulse for Ooma in my case and the result is the same.
I stand by what I posted 100% - if you are not interested in checking out the available services and paying three different bills, then bundling is for you. It will save you over and usually only over the regular prices of that particular cable provider. It will not necessarily save you over getting three separate services and probably will not give the best features for the money.

I dunno about that. I've often wondered why it is that in all the TV commercials I see for Dish and DTV, Dish is always comparing itself to DTV but DTV compares itself to cable companies, not Dish. It has been that way for years. Maybe there is truth to the Dish ads? The funny thing is, I'm considering returning to cable when my contract with Dish expires in July or even earlier since the cable company will buyout my contract now if I switch. The capability of their DVR may make or break my decision though.

Because Directv is better than Dish.

It's like comparing the Chevrolet Suburban to the Cadillac Escalade.

If your the Chevy then you need to show people why your the better choice.

When your the Cadillac, you don't compare yourself to lesser products.
ChadT41
There is this toy too. Although not from DTV, it is a toy none the less.

People still buy Cadillacs? Haven't seen one for years. Mercedes, BMW, etc yes, but in CA Cadillac disappeared long ago.

Maybe in your part of California, but in mine Cadillacs stand right up there with the German autos....

Cadillacs don't look like Cadillacs of years ago nor are they marketed towards the same crowd anymore, IMO... A few models are quite the performance machines too.

Yes, to me, "Genie" = Alladin (Genie in the bottle) or "I Dream of Jeanie"
ChadT41
That's what DTV was hoping to play off of. That's why they went with the mirror from sleeping beauty. Can't tell me that wasn't in some way suppose to peak the interest of the childhood memories of folks.

Yeah, there are some people who do prefer ONE bill with higher cost than multiple bills with cost savings. I understand that mentality--at least back in the pay by snail mail days and juggling paydays with due dates and factoring the time it takes for the snail mail payment to arrive and the more time for the payment to be PROCESSED by the billing company on what seemed a hundred different bills, but since I've migrated to paying via internet, I find no advantage to bundling. But that is me, and I know others may still prefer as few bills to deal with as possible.
D

Because it is DTV that has had the most success in net gain of subscribers, and, ironically, it is DTV that seems to have a number of people who LEAVE DTV because of the shock of DTV's REAL cost of subscribing once the discounts end AND, the whole mess with NFLST when people are find they have a $300 plus charge on the bill that for the 2nd year of NFLST they feel they should have been in some way offered the opportunity to decline or asked before DTV put the charge on the bill. That has been my personal experience with most people who opt for DTV with whom I have spoken. DirecTV is a very good service, it is some of the practices that leave those who leave with a bitter taste in the mouth.

So, Dish may see an opportunity for Dish to grab that subscriber while they still have negative feelings toward DTV and are now defiantly changing pay-TV services. In other words, the strategy may be to get the dissatisfied customer as they leave the door in a fit. It's something like how local individual real estate agents will bombard you with advertising for years or even decades like free note pads or other goodies on your doorstep, their picture ads on the sides of trucks of bus benches (I know at least one very successful agent who spends more than $10,000 per year on advertising costs alone--because it works). You aren't selling your home tomorrow, but when the time comes, they have planted their name and face in your head when you reach the moment of figuring out WHO to contact to sell your home. I think Dish wants to plant their service in the head of DTV current customers and those imminently set to leave, and quite a few do leave even with the net gain, and are considering a new pay-TV service, but may not be to keen about returning to cable. That is total IMHO.

I was watching some of this guy's stuff and realized some of you may not be familiar. Basically his show is Candid Camera meets a magician. This is a comp of a few of his exploits. I first learned of him when I was out at a meeting in Denver about 10yrs ago. The men I was sitting at the table with started talking about this show and said it was one of the funniest things they had seen. When I got home I started watching it....yes, it is funny.

This started a couple months ago. I have 2 H3s on one network, both with 2 EHD identical 3 TB seperately powered so all recordings are accessible by all 4k & J4s (8 of them).

On one H3 (not the main one that controls the MOCA network), after it reboots, it doesn't recognize it has two EHDs plugged into it. Rebooting the EHD by their power source doesn't fix it. Resetting the network doesn't. Software h3 reset doesn't fix it. Rebooting MOCA h3 doesn't fix it but so far, after 3+ cold boots (unplug pwr to H3 with unrecognized EHDs), it finally it figures out they are plugged into it. BUT.... Then when you open a program it only partially shows series and episodes, but instead of showing recordings, it only shows upcoming airings. HELP!!!!

Thanks JohnGalt1234 - That's interesting. I wonder are the Boot Strap versions different between a Hopper 3 only and a Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus setup as I have the later. I guess when charlesrshell is able to since he has both setups, he can do the test. Unless the bootstrap version is tied to when the specific Hopper 3 is manufactured, in my case, mines is from February 2016 when it was installed.

At least Google Search AI is saying the bootstrap version will never change and unique to each Hopper 3.

This is probably why different people seem to either have the issue or they don't because the bootstrap code could also be tied to the hardware revision and
components other than the internal HD.

JohnGalt1234 - So you basically have 2 Hopper 3's. The CasinoH3 is the one that is Hopper 3 only while Master Bedroom is a Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus setup.
Master Bedroom uses Android TV (ATV) software so the DISH part is actually a app and will behave differently as you can probably tell the Guide's are different on the Master Bedroom which will resemble the same guide used on other ATV devices such as the Joey 4 and Wireless Joey 4. If I am correct, the CasinoH3 is the one with the problem since you did say the one dated 09/05/2026 is the naughty one while 08/15/2026 named Master Bedroom is the nice one. Usually I would expect the CasinoH3 to be the one without the problem because it's Hopper 3 only and Master Bedroom would be the one with problems because it has the Hopper Plus involved. That is why they behave differently because CasinoH3 is running the native Hopper 3 software while Master Bedroom is running the Android TV software and also it runs a app called DISH known as package com.dish.atv.launcher, the version for mines is P15403 2026100917 so it's probably the same version as the Hopper Plus software version with the date of October 9, 2026, not sure what the 17 means except maybe revision 17?

This explains it better than I can. Sorry, had to take all the ads out.

As I understand it, the android is just the display signal from the hopper+. I can disconnect the H+ and plug the hdmi directly into the master hopper3.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

PISTONS and THUNDER are finally testing on the stream server. PISTONS is showing the Ion/Scripps Sports promo loop filler that their NHL and WNBA feeds have, THUNDER has a "You are watching Thunder+" slate

The Clippers still haven't officially announced their TV plans beyond 10 simulcasts on KTLA, but the NBA's FAQ for ClipperVision is now live. The CLIPPERS feed is currently showing a loop of their Hawaii preseason game.

The Heat still haven't announced their West Palm Beach or Fort Myers affiliates. Since WPLG is streaming the games for free via their app, I doubt we'll be seeing the return of WPLG on stream.

So far nothing testing for the Bucks, Magic, Hawks or Hornets.

West Palm Beach is getting it on WTCN-CD/43 MNT. Still nothing for Fort Myers

Also, the Thunder's deal for KSBI/52 OKC and KQCW/19 Tulsa will be via a special cable and DIRECTV only feed of those stations. OTA viewers and Dish customers will be limited to 10 games.

Thanks for the updates on CW norfolk
Hopefully comes to sat soon!!
dtv757
Not seeing 44 (WVBT-DT/44 CW Norfolk ) on my D* app for firestick
K
It's only available for streaming customers, they still haven't added that batch of CW stations to satellite.

Even if it was, satellite customers still can't stream their CW affiliates via the app, just the Big 4, select PBS stations and some independents (mainly the ones that have full season NHL/NBA rights)

24 team playoff seems to be real close.

Are we really that far from a 64-team tournament?

The benefit of the 24 team playoff:
  • All the cartel teams that cartels want in playoff are in playoff
    • Independent of record too! Bonus.
  • MONEY!!!!! for the cartels.
  • I'm out of ideas.
Cons
  • Regular season really doesn't matter now other than the rivalry games
    • Top cartel teams can lose three games and still make the playoff
  • Going to start resting players?
    • The playoff is going to be *checks notes* several games!
    • Resting players could make games dumb.
    • Maybe even restrict NIL players from games played.
  • How much are streaming sub costs going up a month to pay for this?!

One of the pro's I see is in a year with so many undefeated teams they have a good chance of an opening. Few years back you had lower divisions that didnt get a shot. I love collage football and I have no problem with that addition.

We are in what week 5 now? Been two real good ranked games to watch.....Other than that top 25 teams are playing nothing.

Oh, I Hate the idea ...

It would be different if it was a game that you could play 2 or games each week, but when you only play 1 game a week, the larger playoff is Not a good thing ...

The season has how many games now, is it 14 ... then you want to play another 5 (with more to come) against Top 12 (eventually 24 teams) ... remember, the 5 games in the playoffs will be the hardest games all year and back to back.

For example, IF Ohio State should win it all this year ... they play 5 teams in the Top 25, plus they would play 5 more to win it all, depending on how the ranking shake out and if Bye weeks are given.

Thats 10 Ranked teams ... in one year ...
I don't see that happening very often ...
Edit, Bama plays 4, Georgia plays 3, But Ole Miss plays 5 (didn't expect to see that)

That said, I don't see the Buckeyes winning it all this year.

Yes anyone here knows you 100%....Astros failed no posting...Ohio state loses we hear it.....Its ok....Its called an opinion....I have one so do you.....Problem is?
Seeing theres very little activity in the MLB threads, it wouldn't matter if I posted that the Astros didn't make the Playoffs ...

Theres more NFL info in the Pub section than in the Sports/NFL thread.

IF they go to 24 teams, and it looks like they will soon ....
Do we Really want Teams with 3 and 4 losses in the Playoffs ?
Is a 3-4 Loss team one thats able to win 4-5 more games against Top teams ?
Y
One of the pro's I see is in a year with so many undefeated teams they have a good chance of an opening. Few years back you had lower divisions that didnt get a shot. I love collage football and I have no problem with that addition.
A 12 team playoff net should catch any undefeated team. The 12 team playoff also exposed that rankings suck. I mean, we kind of knew already that the rankings weren't particularly reproducible, but we now have the empirical evidence that the rankings suck because judging who is the best among a mickey mouse scheduled football season isn't a rational endeavor. So the 12 team playoff ensures most teams that should make it, do, including the mid-major undefeated team. 8 teams should be able to work as well, but puts greater risk at OSU and Alabama missing the playoff... can't have that.

Which is the run up to my main problem with the 24 team set up is that it is designed to keep the OSU's and Alabama's from missing the playoff. The cartels are ensuring widespread participation for their own cartels to increase the monetary reward to themselves. It is fixing the system while not fixing the outcomes, merely making the regular season game outcomes virtually irrelevant. Sure, a bye for winning the conference would be nice, but we've already seen that byes aren't that influential.
We are in what week 5 now? Been two real good ranked games to watch.....Other than that top 25 teams are playing nothing.
That is college football in a nutshell. Again, college football isn't about competition, it is about revenue. The entire setup is about making money, from regular season squash games against local jobbers like the WWF days to tax exempt bowl games.

And to add to the first world woes, the college football cartels have made being a College Football fan even more expensive... so they can get paid more.

Nah, you just don't understand how ignore works, which is why you made your own NFL thread thinking there wasn't one 🤣

Howard ...
You don't like Tony, or Tony as the Director (he's only been there for 30 seconds now) or you don't like NCIS ?

No. Bring in someone new.🤔 Tony is not serious enough for me. Parker is too close to the team and Tim is too young to take over IMO.

I don't think Tim and Tony are that far apart in Age ...

Remember what Tony said to Tim when they first got back together ...
Tony said: I am the New Tony, Tim .... (something to that effect)

Tony has changed, he's been running his Security Business ... I'm sure he has grown up.

Give it time ... your judging the New Tony from the old Tony.

It sounds like Tim won't be around the Team much longer either.

I'm curious how they are going to implement Tony into Origins (If they do) ...
Tony was introduced to Gibbs and the team, on NCIS, which makes it the Mothership side of things, he worked in Baltimore prior to NCIS, NO mention when they met that anyone had known one another ...

Please post your remote make/model here and any details of your issue. We are looking to collect as many examples as possible. I may reach out to you for your receiver number, but please do not post it here.

If you've already reported this to me, please repost it here so I can track all instances in one thread.

Thanks!

I lost IR control of my H3 after the H398 update in September of 25. We were using the Harmony Hub remote system from Logitech. We have been using the H3 OEM remote to turn the receiver on and off ever since then.

I have a solution that is guaranteed to work.
All Hopper developers are required to turn in their RF Hopper remotes and use only IR remotes.

I guarantee you that the bug will be fixed in two days!
Try it; it will work! They will work 24 hours a day to fix it when the WAF goes into the toilet!

BTW my bedroom H3 does not have this problem where I am using a Harmony 650. Also has there been any more feedback? Are they still working on this or what?

I think I have a separate issue with our Hopper 3 when watching/recording a 4K event. I have had many instances of it spontaneously restarting when I "disturbed" it during a 4K event. I learned to not touch the remote after a given point.

But it might be the IR code subroutine and 4K that make it touchy. I'll try it Wednesday night during the NLCS Game 3.

I was having similar issues last night while watching and recording the NLCS game on 148. When I tried resuming the game at one point the screen went blank and I couldn't get my H3 to respond to any remote commands. Eventually the Hopper went to a HD channel but still no remote response. After a while the Hopper went into a re-boot cycle. This happened at least 3 times. I was using an IR universal remote only.

A little frustrating to have the game broken up like that but at least the Brewers won:)

Yea, I've only been a CIO for the last 30 years! :)
Trust me, when something important breaks, they get to own it!

Loaded H713 software on my Hopper 3 last week. Have not seen any change in the IR/RF remote issues with my Harmony 700.
Has Dish acknowledged this is a problem and are they committed to fixing it?
I'd be happy to roll back to last July.

I will look, but I don't think I have seen it. Owen's breakfast sausage use to be favorite, but I can't find it anymore. Jimmy Dean's country mild is OK also when I can find it.

No Kroger's near me. I live in the heart of Walmart land. The only option besides Walmart is Harp's.

Surprisingly I moved here from the Gulf Coast due to the heat. But it has been hotter here due to the heat domes than it did down there.
