Hello everyone, I'm breaking down and asking for help. Here's the sitch

currently working on the North slope in Alaska and staying at a man camp. The camp is two years old and very nice. However they've been trying to install dishnetowrk at the camp for 2 years. Being a new worker to the area I've taken on the task.

The full system sent was the hopper 3, I ran a dual cable from the LNB to the DPH42 then A new jumper cable from the DPH42 to the power inserter then the power inserter to the hopper 3 receiver.

from what I've read I need an updated LNB I'm using a 36" dish that I've flipped upside down to get a lower degree signal. The degree of elevation recommend is 8.1°. The current LNB is an old school dual LNB from what I've read I need to upgrade the LNB but I don't know what to upgrade it to. I'm also having trouble pinning down the satellite. Anyone have any recommendations on a cheap sat finder that works well???

I was told I need to line in a network Hub but while perusing the site it seems I don't need a network hub unless I'm running dual hoppers or more than 3 joeys with a super Joey set up??

please any direction is worth it any help is appreciated. Trying to get to watch

This is the old receiver. Which at some point before me was playing free channels through it from the satellite.

That is either a 301 or a 311. In either case it's a standard definition single-tuner receiver and cannot use that separator. I don't know what that was doing in the mix. To confuse us?
I see by the part number that is a DirectTV LNB.

Are we consensus that this Directv LNB will still work???

No we are not. I think they are interchangeable with Dish's legacy dual LNBs. "Legacy" in DIsh parliance means the LNB used two different voltages to switch from left to right circular polarization. But I don't think DirecTV ever used bandstacking like the DP line of LNBs, which is what is required for that DPH42.

You will just have to buy a DishPro dual or single LNB to make that DPH42 switch work at all. If you want to get really fancy, you could get a hybrid LNB/switch assembly and try to hit 3 birds at once. I don't see how to do that with your big dish.

One thing, you are correct about that dish only hitting one Sat. You'd need 2 Dishes, pointing at 2 Sats running into the 42 Switch, which would combine them. I think once you get the correct LNBF, you'll be in business!

Alright so I only need the one satellite signal though to be able to use the 42 switch and the hopper 3 ???!

Correct, but you'd only pick up the channels, obviously, coming of that particular Satellite

I'd get most of the channels with sat 119° though correct ? From what I understand.

Little late to the party here but I have a couple dpp 33 switches laying around somewhere. Sounds like you won't need it but if you do I'd happily send one your way for the cost of shipping.

The OP is intending to "hit" only 119. The only reason he needs a DPH42 is to allow the H3 to tune up to 16 channels on any of the transponders on 119. He doesn't actually need a switch to do that, but that is all Dish has to make such a configuration work.

To my memory DTV used/went with Channel Stacking while Dish went with Band Stacking, and the switches used in those systems were designed to support EITHER Band or Channel Stacking, not both. Agreed. No those are NOT compatable.

FWIW, I don't see Band or Channel stacking as better than the other, but they each have their advantages and disadvantages.

Not necessarily. Aren't a great many HD general interest/entertainment channels for Alaska on the Alaskan spot beams at 129?

Yeah, but he stated that soon after getting a signal, he was going to deal with supporting additional TV's. So, there may be a use for 16 tuners, after all.

Isn't "channel stacking" what the Dish hybrid LNB does?

I know HipKat said that they were working on conversions but we got the official news yesterday right from Dish that starting next month all DMA's will be on the western arc, and all customers will be assigned to that. That's gonna mean a lot of customers around here aren't gonna get Dish unless there are exceptions. Too many mountains and trees.

Even if you are broadcasting old SD-only shows, I would think advertisers would still want their commercials to look good.

Advertisers on SD channels are probably Far and Few, very hard to find, they have very few viewers to watch them.

I watch mostly SD channels (H&I, Start and ION, etc.). There are plenty of advertisers, this time of the year it is mostly Medicare Advantage plans, auto extended warranties and the occasional walk-in-tub. They know who is watching.

Because he didn't have a fleet of reusable rockets. Starlink works because SpaceX is able to launch hundreds (thousands?) of their Starlink satellites for what a single geostationary Internet satellite costs to build and launch on a disposable launcher.

But how is it reusable if it's disposable

He does not have the resources aka $$$ compared to Elon Musk as in reality, Elon can eat Charlie for lunch or even mop the floor with Charlie if he wanted to.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Also watched part 2 about a week or so ago after rewatching part 1. It's not as faithful to the book as I was hoping for. Part 1 stayed fairly faithful to the novel, but part 2 took some liberties that I felt were rather excessively non-novel. It looks like a prequel series will happen before part 3. My issue is: there's no prequel that was written as a novel, so what will it be pulled from? Or will it just be "based loosely" on the novel?

There is a bunch of other Dune written by Kevin J Anderson and Brian Herbert (Franks son). I think the series in production is taken from one of their books about the Bene Gesserit.

Correct. I've read all of them (yes, it took awhile, better part of a year, in my spare time). And they can't really consider or classify a series about the Bene Gesserit as a prequel. Sure, I suppose they can call it that, if they want to, because it begins before the time of Paul Atredies, but it's still a stretch. It's a Dune-related novel, not a prequel as we generally think of prequels...
long_time_Dish
Well, it looks good! I just hope they stayed close to the trilogy, but it doesn't look like it.
