Babylon 5 reboot coming

Believe it when I see it : 'Babylon 5' Series Reboot From J. Michael Straczynski In Works At the CW

Coincidentally, I just last night finished watching the latest Remastered version on Apple TV. While I enjoyed watching the show again after all these years the results of the remastering aren't worth the price. Picture quality overall is poor IMO.

Well Straczynski wrote it and the same actors are doing the voices ( except of those who have died of course), so that tilts to it could be good, if crappy animation, that will take away even if a good/great story

Michall Straczynski also writes comics and graphic novels, if you like his works, read Midnight Nation, best thing he has ever written.

Saw the movie. I had some credits on Amazon so saved on the price. Mixed feelings. The problem with a B5 movie is the same problem I had with a Veronica Mars movie. The two were based on long, brilliantly sewn story arcs. So when you get it in a much smaller package, it feels unnaturally rushed and not genuinely B5. Knowing this, I think Straczynski built this on something that could fill the cracks of the series (metaphor for information gaps, not flaws), be its own story, brain candy for the devoted.

And I think he managed that well. The voice acting was good for me, trademark qualities of the show's comedy at points, and the animation mature enough to get over the fact it was animated pretty quickly. Unlike Serenity, however, which gave us all that we needed for the premature cancelling of Firefly, and rewatchable over and over, the B5 film feels as if it was watched and needed only to be watched once. Kind of like the Pilot, but more interesting than the Pilot.

Not a spoiler, as I don't even know if it is a spoiler...

I will say, I'm curious whether the events in the movie set up a potential reboot timeline for a new show (if that ever happens), not particularly as ended in the movie, but possibly adjacent during it.

This is an HD Homerun "Extend" HDTC-2US. There were 3 models of this unit made, this one was the first edition (with plastic case and on-board cooling fan). Comes with power adapter and ethernet cable.

Unit has 2 tuners and a built in transcoder so it doesn't hog your computer/network resources. I have used it to stream to Roku and Fire TV with no issues.

Works fine, I just upgraded to a newer model.

Dish network will never merge with Directv. Dish tried buying Directv in early 2000 but George Bush adminstration blocked it. One time Directv had over 24 million customers now maybe 7 to 8 million. Dish had 15 million now less than 5 million. No one ordedring satellite TV.
Only seniors like me keeping it. Both will keep loosing customers. Echostar houston tracker and they made very good receiver back in the 80s and the best DBS receivers including hopper.

With the cost of streaming services going up and they need to switch from app to app, with the advent of android OS and the hopper equipment, dish has taken away some of that pain by centralizing everything on one device, with one remote where you can still stream watch, live TV and record whatever you want, whenever you want and view all the content from anywhere with an Internet connection

streaming services You need high speed internet costly. Thursday night football i ordered it via Amazon prime i have 80 speed internet the picture locking up it sucks. streaming is like electric car not proven. i will stay with dish network still the best out there. Even dish anywhere app on my phone it looses signal when you are watching on my phone. Not as reliable as satellite tv.

I was checking in to youtube tv. Since youtube tv is one of the biggest tv provider. Looks like you need a smart TV. My TV is a Panasonic 42 inch plasma. Also .no way of channel surfing like we all loved doing on dish receiver. That sucks. You tube tv charges $10 for NFL redzone. Let see If Echostar dish will suvive or go under?

All you need is a streaming box such as Roku, Google TV streamer or ONN 4k box from Walmart connected to your TV.

I cycle mine out every three years or so.

Someone gets a deal on a still REALLY good tv, I get a discount on a better one.

I'm not sure how long TVs would last now tbh, my last plasma I sold was at least a decade ago. Probably more.

Those however, I did love them. The tech simply passed them by.

I am going to buy the google streamer at wallmart. After 28 years with dish. Now i herd they are going to increase the price monday. I am paying $109 for americas 250 until end of Ocotober. I will test google tv, My question is can you channel surf youtube tv like dish VIP-211k receiver with google tv streamer? Dish lost more customers according to report today. The way it is going it will be zero customers i dont see too many satellite dishes on houses both dish and directv. But easy to operate both dish and directv. Thanks

directv stream has a cable like experience. but each streaming box is 10.00 a month for the gemini airs. that's a lease fee to.

Plasma was absolutely fantastic, I retired my LG last year (25 years old) when the control board died and couldn't find another. The OLED replacement is good and much bigger and has a bunch of HMDI ports (no more DVI converters)

But its true the blacks might not be quite as good but at least I don't need to crank up the air in that room anymore.

Except you do not need a Gemini Air for DirecTV Streaming, a Roku ( or others) will work also, no lease fee.

I can assure you, that any OLED has better black levels than even the best Pioneer Kuro Plasma. And you will save on AC in the Summer, but may pay a bit more for heat in the winter.

Modern OLEDs have better (true/infinite) black levels.Pioneer Kuro plasmas (especially the later 9G and 9.5G models like the KRP-500M/Elite PRO-101FD from around 2008–2009) were legendary for the deepest blacks of any mainstream flat-panel TV of their era. Measured black levels on well-performing or voltage-tweaked units typically reached roughly 0.0005–0.001 fL (about 0.001–0.003 nits/cd/m²). In a dark room they looked extremely close to true black and far superior to contemporary LCDs or earlier plasmas.

They do have a puppet episode you might like. Don't know when but Anson Mount talked about it and showed the puppet on the View a week ago. Now if they could just combine that with the musical episode, everyone would be happy. :biggrin

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea did a puppet episode 59 years ago. It also had Vincent Price on it, so even better.

Continuing the Kilauea thread in the Pub here. Perhaps the Iceland one too next time there's remarkable activity.

Currently there is precursory lava flowing into the crater, leading to the next episode that'll probably start within the next day.

You can see the pace of inflation / deflation here. It serves as the primary predictor for when the expect the eruptions, which coincide w/ inflation turning into significant deflation and last for several hours on average with significant fountaining.

One important thing to keep in mind is what causes these volcanos to erupt in the first place. Now when it comes to Hawaii, that is what is called a hot spot but with all others, it is due to plate subduction. One tectonic plate is plunging beneath another one. That is why you see a string of volcanos along the Pacific Northwest. Volcanic activity means these plates are moving which if a section of the plate is locked, that increases the probability of a mega-quake.

FM translator / no AM signal

How long can an AM station run their FM translator with the parent AM signal off of the air?
KAMA 750 in EL Paso, TX has been off of the air for over two weeks now. They continue to broadcast on the 92.7 translator and cite the AM 750 and FM K224FC frequencies near the top of the hour. (The station is owned by KBNA 97.5 and the FM translator is not listed on the FCC web site).
For a little background on this station, for over 20 years "Hit 104.3" originated here in El Paso but leased a transmitter in Juarez, Mexico. This has been a common arrangement in this area for many years. Evidently earlier this year they lost the lease for the Mexican facility and moved the operation ( with some minor programming changes) to long time Spanish broadcaster KAMA and it's relatively new FM translator.
Over the past couple of years I have tried to listen to KAMA's Sunday oldies show in English after it was discontinued on El Paso's only "Classic Hits" station. The audio on KAMA was always very distorted and the 250 watt FM translator is hard to tune in as it is sandwiched in between two 100K watt blowtorches on 92.3 and 93.1. The 750 AM signal seemed to improve a bit and at 10K watts I was able to listen to it half way to Carlsbad, NM on a recent trip. However, I doubt that very many of their listeners use the AM signal.
I have my doubts that this operation can survive which would be a shame as there are so few radio stations here that even announce in English. It does make for an interesting situation for this long time radio enthusiast.

The FCC lists K224FC as a translator for KVIV 1340, so there's a certain amount of funny business going on with an apparent rebranding.

KAMA's Internet stream is working just fine in the interim and probably offers better AQ than the broadcast outlets.

Thanks for looking that up Harshness. I had just seen no translators listed for KAMA. If the information for K224FC is still correct they only have 99 watts. No wonder it is so hard to tune in even on a digital car radio. I also do not believe the location coordinates given on the FCC site are correct as that takes me to an abandoned industrial site that is nothing but a large dirt field.
If they want to be an internet radio station that is just fine but they should not be taking up the publics airwaves using false information and an almost unusable signal.

Some just can't drag themselves into the 21st century, or they don't have access to streaming.

There's probably also an expectation coming from advertisers that they're getting out on all media.

The Evolution Of Hot Dogs

I love a good hot dog every once in a while. I try to keep it simple and traditional though. True to my NY roots mustard and sauerkraut is a favorite. Onions in red sauce is another, although that's hard to find around here in NM. Even Chicago dogs with that neon green relish is a treat. But recently "gourmet" hot dogs seem to be the fad. I'm the kind of guy that will try just about anything. But here's the problem. There's too much of it. I used to grab a "dirty water dog" off a cart with a Coke in NYC and be on the move. You could eat one of those when you were walking no problem. These "gourmet" dogs have so much on them. And they are swimming in sauce that they squirt on them in a squiggly fashion. if you try to pick them up it makes a mess. Or worse, half of it winds up on your clothes or the ground. I want my hot dog to be portable. Not something I have to sit down and eat with a knife and fork. Maybe I'm just old fashioned. But in my humble opinion this is way overdone.
