YouTube's contract with Disney expires this Friday: YouTube TV - Watch & DVR Live Sports, Shows & News

If no deal is reached, YouTubeTV will cut it's monthly price by $15 while the content remains off of the platform.

I really like that YouTube is very upfront that they tell the adjusted price if channels are dropped.

I use a 2020 Roku Ultra, and the DirecTV Stream quality is excellent. There were some issues when I first made the switch in March where it would buffer and crash at least once a day, but I haven't had any problems since a major app update in mid July. With that update, they added a more robust pause feature with a 60-minute pause buffer that allows full trick play functions. My experiences and screenshots were the basis of this article:

Another advantage of the Roku app over FireTV (I have a 4K FireTV stick) is the Roku app has preview thumbnails when you FF/RW recorded programing, as you can see in the images in that article.

I never use my 4K FireTV stick anymore as the DTV Stream experience is so much superior on Roku. I'm not familiar with any "best" settings on either device. I just hook it up and it works. If I have PQ issues, I toggle my TV's preset image settings.

Best, good, fair settings are under preference. The pause feature is also on firetv using the gen2 box replaced with the newer cube connected with an ethernet connection. The 15-second skip forward or reverse preview box work with firetv on live TV.

They are losing dozens of talented engineers because, for some reason, Disney has decided their engineers must live in a Florida swamp.
Just moved here a year ago. no swamp as far as I can see and we live in the rural area of Kissimmee, where every house has about 2 acres of land/yard.

Much like cable/satellite fees exceeding inflation rates, so have Disney Ticket Prices, and the additional fees they are not starting to add, like Genie+ and Lightning Lane. It just isn't worth it anymore. I no longer am willing to pay for linear TV, and the same is true for Disney. Universal at least is still affordable in comparison.
Went to Universal in July 2020, when I closed on the house, it may be less expensive, but my daughter and I made it thru both parks in a day, last time at just Disney World, took us about 3 days to see everything at Magic Kingdom.

And I agree with you on liner TV, we have 11 TVs and to get a box for each would increase a monthly bill about $70 a month.

Enough with the political posts! Next one gets a vacation. Everyone understand? Good!

I wasn't aware of those settings in the DTV Stream app. I thought you were talking about picture setting on the Roku device itself. I guess that setting just always defaulted to "best" on my devices, and since I didn't have any issues, didn't look for them.

Playing around just now on my 4K FireTV stick, I did see the preview window FF'ing through I recorded program, but not live TV, and then when I went back, the preview window was gone again. So if the FireTv app has received an upgrade like the Roku, it's inconsistent at best.
This is subjective of course but IMO the Roku has a crappy image. Same TV, the same camera no adjustments.
I did an A-B comparison for one of my recorded programs, and I might give a slight edge to the PQ on my 4K FireTV stick, but that might be due to minor differences on my input picture settings for each device (using a different HDMI port for each one; HDMI cable to my Roku could be a factor as well). Regardless, the remote response lag on my 4K FireTV stick makes any slight PQ differences more tolerable on my Roku.

Having tested other services for the first time since moving from Dish to YTTV (which was meant to be a temporary switch during a cross country move, because we greatly preferred the Dish interface, DVR system, basically everything except the two year contract and the flexibility of not having to have wiring run to the TV locations) - here are my FWIW observations:

Hulu Live: Just didn't like their interface very much, DVR was limited.

Fubo: This is the one that I expected to replace YTTV. All the channels other than the Turner stations (and I was using a low cost Sling sub to supplement for those when needed) and in many ways I preferred their live guide and DVR interface. However, as much a YTTV's compression artifacts drive me crazy on our large 4K TV, especially DVRed network shows, flipping back and forth between Fubo and YTTV on the NFL games demonstrated a MUCH better PQ on the same game, same channel on YTTV. I don't think it was so much the 720 (Fubo) vs. 1080 (YTTV) as much as Fubo was streaming the game at 30 fps vs. 60 fps on YTTV. 1080/60 looks MUCH better than 720/30. I think if it had been 720/60 it might not have been so noticable. But that ruled out Fubo.

DTV Stream: I'd tested them back when they were "Now" and it is MUCH improved. The picture quality overall was better, without some of the compression artifacts you get with YTTV, channel lineup was superb (though I was missing the NFL network for games that are on that channel) and love having the RSNs back. Honestly, I'm not all that concerned about paying, say, $15 more for a service that gives me more of what I want. The one big downside is that it does not have a native app for my Sony TVs (which is crazy, there are more apps than you can count on the new Sony TVs.) I have a CCWGTV, Shield, and Roku Ultra, and I just received a new 2021 Apple TV 4K, so I assume one or all of those have the Stream app. I'm not crazy about paying over$200 for two DTV Stream boxes, though if I ended up using Stream full time I'd consider it.

For now, we're back to YTTV, but I see a test of Stream in our future. The great thing about streaming is you can test a service for a couple of months or so with no long term commitment.

FWIW.

You can stream Directv through Roku so no need to spend big bucks on the boxes.

For some reason, the satelliteguys.us site is loading a lot slower than usual on both Chrome on my Asus laptop and Safari on my iPhone.
I'm also seeing longer appearances of the blue bar at the top and the "3 blue bars" loading symbol.
Is anyone else also having the same problem? Thanks in advance.

Yeah. It's probably something going on with the MacBook as my iPhone has been pretty snappy.

I rebooted my MacBook Air and it's zipping right along. Sorry, but it was taking over 20 seconds to load pages, with the pulsing blue bars so it was munching on something.

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Just had a customer come in inquiring about internet. He has HughesNet and had heard good things about mine. He asked if we provided email addresses and it kinda caught me off guard. I said he should be able to keep whatever email he had been using....my sister in law is still using a BellSouth email addy and they haven't been around here for many years. He said he had gotten a letter from HughesNet stating that they had until Nov 16th to save, move, forward, whatever, their Hughesnet emails because they would lose them after that date.

I have never heard of a company simply mass-deleting email accounts (the customer still has his HughesNet service). From what I understand, in the past, the company who was ditching their email service simply sold the customer base to a company like Google.

Anyone else getting this letter. He said he would show it to me tomorrow when I go out there and set up his internet.

Doing a Google of the HughesNet Email notice, it seems that HughesNet has been trying to eliminate hosting emails since 2019. And with HughesNet filing Chapter 11 back in August, it would be a smart move to switch to a more stable Email provider. Even AT&T farmed out their Email to Yahoo! years ago.

SpaceX's Starlink and the Cellular 5G Home Internet solutions have pretty much relegated HughesNet and its high latency, low bandwidth Internet service to History. If Earth had shorter days, maybe a Geostationary Internet Solution might have stood a fighting chance…

Well, I helped him set up a gmail acct....I actually wanted to see what the new process is for setting up a gmail acct since it had been years since I set mine up. Anyway, I showed him how to forward the emails he wanted to keep over.

Can't help but wonder if a worker overlooked checking the harness. I rarely ride a roller coaster anymore but when I do I check the harness myself pretty aggressively.
Can't imagine what the son is going through.

Back on the Goliath Roller Coaster ... I'm interested to find more details as well ...
Like where on the track did this happen (somewhere I read that it was on the climb up the top), which is impossible ...

They really need to take that ride and add at the very least, seatbelts ...

The Park is opening back up on Friday, the ride will Not be opening ... personally, I would keep it closed until different type of restraints can be designed and installed (over the winter).

I find it hard to believe that this ride is even allowed to be running with the restraints that exist at the moment, there are other rides that use the same type and they have been shut down across the country.

You got to believe that every ride has at least 2 types of restraint systems in place.

I wonder what and when we will hear from the Manufacturer ... and whatever governing bodies control these ...

Just think, this is a Major Amusement Park .... I would not have any problem getting on the Roller Coasters I have rode ...

Imagine what these County Fairs and others like them, I would not be caught Dead on one of them ... they get put up and tore down every other week, where is the safety for those rides ... No Thank You.

Had no idea there were that many redundancies built into those restraints.

It makes sense, however, I would want more types of restraints, so if one doesn't work, the other does ... the restraints coming over the shoulder I would have expected ... with a Seat belt as last resort.

Fwiw, I inquired with what they use on Coasters at Cedar Point, various Coasters, different restraints according to what the car and track requires ...

NONE of the Coasters at CP use THAT particular system :)
I'm glad to see ...

According to the article, when you see a seat belt on a ride like this, it is basically used as a way of making sure the rider isn't too large/fat to safely ride the ride.

I just received 6 receiver 2 port mini Multiswitch and it work great, no external power need it, and you can connect 6 receiver instead of 4 on most Mini Multiswitches... If anyone is interested in where they can get one PM me....

Have you tested using external power? Over the years, have found unpowered polarity switching to be unreliable. Especially problematic when used with DiSEqC motors or switch stacking.
H
No I have not. I just got it the other day and it is connected to six receivers working just fine. What I do is non power mini multi-switches work best with LNBF's and with LNB's

I bought the fixed color version of these bulbs for my store several years ago...work great and no more replacing ballast. Finally had one go out and when I went back to Amazon I saw that now they come in selectable versions so no more guess work as to what color light would do best in a certain area. They are now double OR single ended...used to be strictly one way or the other. If any of you are looking at replacing the old style 4 or 8 ft bulbs, you might want to give these a try. The 8 footers are BRIGHT. I put 5 in my shooting/target shed and you can get a decent tan if you are in there long enough.

When we re-lamped my in-Laws' house for sale last year, we were able to get all the Edison bulbs and a few fixtures with switch-selectable Color Temperature. We tried a few and settled on 3000°K as the best fit for the house. Matching the lighting in all the rooms made for an inviting experience. The Shop was the only place that we went with 4000°K for the LED 4' fixtures.

The house was sold within a month of going on the market, so we must have done something right.

The other advantage is if the new owners decide that they prefer a warmer light, they can unscrew the bulbs (I think it was close to 70 bulbs) and set them to the 2500K/2700K settings.

I'll have to check these out. Thanks!
