This is going to make me sound stupid but I have been trying all day to get some channels and after hours of trying and research it appears that I will need a second dish?

This is my set-up: dish on the roof, coaxial cable down from roof to back of fta receiver. This dish was installed years ago and the only channel that I cared about is the last one in this list
fta channels.png

but today I realized I also need all the ion channels. so I went to my receiver's menu and it didn't have SES 18 and 19. so I created those with 103.0 W and 135.0 W in the receiver settings. Then I did all sorts of scans, blind scan, accurate scan, I messed with LNB settings from I think 550 to 1700. at the end of the day I realized that 103.0 W and 135.0 W are literally the positions of the dish upstairs?

so do I have this right? currently my dish is pointed at angle 97 W so it's not possible for it to be pointed at 103 at the same time? I will need another dish to watch ion channels? if the answer is yes, can the second dish use the same coaxial cable so I don't have to run another cable from the roof to my house?

Wikipedia lists these four and the other Iranian domestic channels. Of the four channels you listed, none of these links work for streaming through my Edision though the links are there.

The only channels on the 97W Ku satellite that originate from Iran are:
Jam Jam Global Network 2 (Persian)
Press TV (English)
iFilm English (Persian & English)
Hispan TV in Spanish

The government web site mentions an app for use on an Android smartTV. If you happen to have one of these, then you could set that app up on the TV and he would have more of a TV experience.

The guys have it pretty much covered. With your uncle, you are in a bit of a pickle.
It would be possible with a ku band dish to place multiple lnbf's that would cover a limited arc. And the dish would not have to move.
It would require at least a 1 meter or larger dish. And a bit more preipheral device(s) to control which lnbf is active.
But with a single tuner satellite receiver. One satellite at a time.

Your Uncle. How teachable is he? The laptop at the TV with HDMI cable is a great idea. A bluetooth mouse and keyboard is perfect to put on the coffee table to control the laptop.
For a test. I went to the website you gave. And simply dragged the link from Firefox, Chrome, and Edge to the desktop.
Each one opened immediately when double-clicked.
I ran the website through Google Translate. And it came up in English.
Dragged that to the desktop. And it opened in English.

The options to use a streaming box sounds good too. The new Fire TV Cube has an HDMI input.
Alexa responds to "Alexa. Switch the TV to HDMI 1 (or 2, 3, etc.). And the same for launching applications on it.

For the life of me with my dad. I felt defeated.
I authored technical documentation at work for years. Trained workers to setup and operate complex machinery.
Condensed multi page manuals down to a ten-step "cheat sheet".
And then had a few of my close coworkers run through the steps. Rewriting and having them repeat the setup and operation procedures until we got it down to what became company wide standards.

I tried and tried with my dad to teach him how to play a DVD on his TV. Went over and over how to switch the remote control to a different HDMI port. He had no concept. He understood VHF and UHF antenna terminals.
Dish Network setup his TV so that when the satellite was turned on. Everything was automatic.
I could not no-how, no-way get him to understand that the satellite came in on HDMI 1 and the DVD player was on HDMI 2.
Nor how to switch between each one. He would switch the remote control for Dish to turn the TV off and then turn it back on.
Because once on DVD, he could not get back to HDMI1.
It beat me down. So. You have a job to do, mister.

Your story gave me a PTSD episode about trying to teach my mother in law how to use an iPhone.

She has a Fire tablet that she navigates well on, viewing facebook and pinterest and a few other things. But the very idea of making a phone call with a glass rectangle, where all you have to do is touch the picture of the person you want to call, was a completely foreign concept that she steadfastly refused to entertain.

She has a flip phone now. And still a land line. And has to remember all these 10-digit numbers in her head. But somehow that's easier than learning how to touch a picture on a screen.

Right...but do any youth brains "work that way," that they can't use a laptop or smartphone but photographically remember directions...?

At least as of a few years ago, it was said that the fastest-growing cohort of computer users was older people. So, it's not age per se, but rather mental plasticity. Some folks retain the ability to adapt novel concepts and operations basically all their lives while others become set in stone by 30. My dad was very challenged but learned to use computer to read farming articles (had incentive). My mom, forget about it. My sister, 5 years younger, was married to a computer engineer- nothing. Born 1965. There was no universal home computing until the '90s; she missed it, and that's that. Has no 'puter, noodles on her iPhone. Aha, right, she could at least figure that...As could my dad; I had him almost there, and then he died.

A big win for the Patriots, and they are now 3-2.

Browns lose a close one with... The Jets. That is a classic Browns loss (granted, any loss is a classic one it seems). 49'ers, Vikings, and Chiefs remain undefeated. The AFC north have a three way tie at 3-2 for second place.

24 team playoff seems to be real close.

Are we really that far from a 64-team tournament?

The benefit of the 24 team playoff:
  • All the cartel teams that cartels want in playoff are in playoff
    • Independent of record too! Bonus.
  • MONEY!!!!! for the cartels.
  • I'm out of ideas.
Cons
  • Regular season really doesn't matter now other than the rivalry games
    • Top cartel teams can lose three games and still make the playoff
  • Going to start resting players?
    • The playoff is going to be *checks notes* several games!
    • Resting players could make games dumb.
    • Maybe even restrict NIL players from games played.
  • How much are streaming sub costs going up a month to pay for this?!

One of the pro's I see is in a year with so many undefeated teams they have a good chance of an opening. Few years back you had lower divisions that didnt get a shot. I love collage football and I have no problem with that addition.

We are in what week 5 now? Been two real good ranked games to watch.....Other than that top 25 teams are playing nothing.

Can't help but wonder if a worker overlooked checking the harness. I rarely ride a roller coaster anymore but when I do I check the harness myself pretty aggressively.
Can't imagine what the son is going through.

Back on the Goliath Roller Coaster ... I'm interested to find more details as well ...
Like where on the track did this happen (somewhere I read that it was on the climb up the top), which is impossible ...

They really need to take that ride and add at the very least, seatbelts ...

The Park is opening back up on Friday, the ride will Not be opening ... personally, I would keep it closed until different type of restraints can be designed and installed (over the winter).

I find it hard to believe that this ride is even allowed to be running with the restraints that exist at the moment, there are other rides that use the same type and they have been shut down across the country.

You got to believe that every ride has at least 2 types of restraint systems in place.

I wonder what and when we will hear from the Manufacturer ... and whatever governing bodies control these ...

Just think, this is a Major Amusement Park .... I would not have any problem getting on the Roller Coasters I have rode ...

Imagine what these County Fairs and others like them, I would not be caught Dead on one of them ... they get put up and tore down every other week, where is the safety for those rides ... No Thank You.

Had no idea there were that many redundancies built into those restraints.

It makes sense, however, I would want more types of restraints, so if one doesn't work, the other does ... the restraints coming over the shoulder I would have expected ... with a Seat belt as last resort.

Fwiw, I inquired with what they use on Coasters at Cedar Point, various Coasters, different restraints according to what the car and track requires ...

NONE of the Coasters at CP use THAT particular system :)
I'm glad to see ...

According to the article, when you see a seat belt on a ride like this, it is basically used as a way of making sure the rider isn't too large/fat to safely ride the ride.

Well, the over the shoulder support is better, but would require reconfiguring the cars.

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Just had a customer come in inquiring about internet. He has HughesNet and had heard good things about mine. He asked if we provided email addresses and it kinda caught me off guard. I said he should be able to keep whatever email he had been using....my sister in law is still using a BellSouth email addy and they haven't been around here for many years. He said he had gotten a letter from HughesNet stating that they had until Nov 16th to save, move, forward, whatever, their Hughesnet emails because they would lose them after that date.

I have never heard of a company simply mass-deleting email accounts (the customer still has his HughesNet service). From what I understand, in the past, the company who was ditching their email service simply sold the customer base to a company like Google.

Anyone else getting this letter. He said he would show it to me tomorrow when I go out there and set up his internet.

Doing a Google of the HughesNet Email notice, it seems that HughesNet has been trying to eliminate hosting emails since 2019. And with HughesNet filing Chapter 11 back in August, it would be a smart move to switch to a more stable Email provider. Even AT&T farmed out their Email to Yahoo! years ago.

SpaceX's Starlink and the Cellular 5G Home Internet solutions have pretty much relegated HughesNet and its high latency, low bandwidth Internet service to History. If Earth had shorter days, maybe a Geostationary Internet Solution might have stood a fighting chance…

Well, I helped him set up a gmail acct....I actually wanted to see what the new process is for setting up a gmail acct since it had been years since I set mine up. Anyway, I showed him how to forward the emails he wanted to keep over.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Have you tested using external power? Over the years, have found unpowered polarity switching to be unreliable. Especially problematic when used with DiSEqC motors or switch stacking.
H
No I have not. I just got it the other day and it is connected to six receivers working just fine. What I do is non power mini multi-switches work best with LNBF's and with LNB's
H
It also has a IPS and a OPS switch on the side of it with a power led light showing when is on. It seems to be very nice build switch
