If you don't trust the accuracy of Lyngsat for listings of what's on satellites, then here's an idea.

Spectrum Monitor magazine, November 2024 issue, has a complete listing of what's on Ku satellites from 133W to 15W. It is an article written by Mike Kohl. The chart in the article is up-to-date and accurate. You can download the whole magazine for just $3. You might discover you want to subscribe to receive the magazine monthly.

Furthermore, the listing of C-band satellites from 139W to 55.5W is in the October issue of the same magazine.

I'd guess Mike's sources are his own knowledge and his first-hand checking using his own systems since he is a Chief Bottle Washer in Global Communications by trade.

This is the same way I know his Ku listings are accurate though I can't see to the east beyond 77W any longer. He's been in this game a long time. I bet he will add his comments here shortly.

I kept a live list of C and Ku-band for all of North America, as well as some West Coast observations of a few Asian satellites that I encountered while building a cable system at a Canadian-owned gold mine in Far East Russia, back in 2008. That refined my knowledge base acquired while pioneering some of the first home satellite systems in Alaska, during my life there in the late 1970s and into the 80s. Global Communications actually had a list maintained on a regular basis from about 1998 to 2015, which was part of my website. I am now semi-retired in a small village in SW Wisconsin, which greatly limits what antennas I can put in my yard (only C band antenna in the village). A 10-foot Winegard covers 55.5 to 139 West on C-band, and a collection of fixed multifeed Ku-band antennas as well as some standalone Ku-band antennas fixed on selected satellites. This fall I did some research with 90 cm and 1.2 meter offset dishes on low-elevation angle satellites on my eastern horizon. Dragged them around the edges of my yard, at one time almost onto the street in attempts to find 30 and 34.5 West Ku-band satellites, with the help of a spectrum analyzer. This allowed some temporary measurements and scanning to see what is currently on both birds. To my utter surprise, I am one of the lucky northerners with good signal levels of 34.5 West, which allows a huge number of French radio signals normally intended for French territories in the Caribbean. Very little verified information could be found anywhere on the internet on 34.5 W, so I did it myself, and compared notes with Ken Reitz, the publisher of The Spectrum Monitor. He saw fit to encourage a deep search on those satellites for the benefit of all readers, as many of the audio and video channels are not available anywhere else from North America. Think Vatican Media, dozens of audio channels, and a number of Middle Eastern TV and radio channels that mirror and expand upon our experience getting signals from the easy to find 97 West - Galaxy 19 satellite. Then look at the sizeable number of signals from Spain on 30 West. A properly set up 1.2 meter offset dish could receive both 30 West and 34.5 West at the same time on Ku-band, in stronger locations east of the Mississippi River, and to points southward. Here in Wisconsin it's starting to get on the edge, but you can always put up two separate satellite antennas. These are in locations well to the east of the rest of satellite signals receivable in the Midwest, so you could just drop them in place, either on an elevated location such as a rooftop, or on the ground if you can get clear line-of-sight after researching live signals. You just need some patience and spare time to locate these prizes. The sky is not going dark quite yet, especially if you seek out unusual things like those mentioned above. And I fully agree that multiple sources should be checked, while comparing your own reception results, to locate the feasibility of what you might find in your location. No satellite channel list is going to be perfect, so cross reference as many sources as you can find, along with your own results.

Christmas idea: Spectrum Monitor has lowered the price of yearly volumes, delivered via PDF link.
2015 to 2023 has all 12 issues of each year for the price of $12 per year. 2024 is $24 for the entire year.
That's a dollar per issue when purchased a year at a time for the 2023 and earlier, and two dollars an issue for 2024 when that year is purchased. You can also enter a subscription for 2025 now, and have monthly links for January-December emailed to you every month..see their website for further information on the 2025 set.

If you are not sure about getting the entire collection, click on the link to November 2024, and then click on boxes for each individual year. There is an alphabetical article directory and reference to which month's issue it was found in.
This is not only satellite information, but a huge amount of info that would be beneficial not only to Hams, but all sorts of electric and electronic specialties. Restoring old radios, grounding and homemade antenna techniques for RF reception.
Historical articles on the development of early radio stations from the beginnings of the industry.
The list goes on and on, and is like a miniature encyclopedia of How-To Information on an amazing number of subjects.

The Spectrum Monitor is a monthly Internet distributed magazine that follows on the historic trail blazed by the Monitoring Times magazine, and goes much further. The publisher is one of us, and has been a satellite hobbyist for many decades, as well as a seasoned Ham radio type. Take a look and see if any of these resources belongs in your library.

I am a big fan of The Spectrum Monitor Magazine. And Ken Reitz is a great guy too. Back when i ran legalfreetoair.com forum (rip) i would promote the magazine all the time. It is well worth the small amount they charge and then some. So if your wife or kids are asking you what you want for Christmas, tell them you want a subscription to The Spectrum Monitor Magazine.

And thanks to Mike and Ken for the great article with the Ku Band FTA Satellite Channel list. The C Band list from the Oct issue is a little out of date now (just cross off Weigel channels on 101W lol), but still great info. I wish you guys would keep this updated in the magazine every couple of months, but i know its a lot of work.

24 team playoff seems to be real close.

Are we really that far from a 64-team tournament?

The benefit of the 24 team playoff:
  • All the cartel teams that cartels want in playoff are in playoff
    • Independent of record too! Bonus.
  • MONEY!!!!! for the cartels.
  • I'm out of ideas.
Cons
  • Regular season really doesn't matter now other than the rivalry games
    • Top cartel teams can lose three games and still make the playoff
  • Going to start resting players?
    • The playoff is going to be *checks notes* several games!
    • Resting players could make games dumb.
    • Maybe even restrict NIL players from games played.
  • How much are streaming sub costs going up a month to pay for this?!

One of the pro's I see is in a year with so many undefeated teams they have a good chance of an opening. Few years back you had lower divisions that didnt get a shot. I love collage football and I have no problem with that addition.

We are in what week 5 now? Been two real good ranked games to watch.....Other than that top 25 teams are playing nothing.

This will be a SAD DAY when this passes ....

They complained the last year that we had a bunch of Blow Outs in the Playoffs ... heres an idea, lets Double the amount of teams and hope for Closer games ... ya right.

This never should have went past 8 teams, 10 at the most.

Now, I have heard that play in games are being talked about, such as #13 plays #24 and so forth, to cut the field down (why cut it down, just don't expand it.)
I'm not sure exactly how thats going to work out or if it was just someone talking.

They were also talking about starting the Season earlier ...

I really don't like the National Championship game being the end of January ... if the Semi Finals are over New Years, thats fine with the Championship game the next week.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Had no idea there were that many redundancies built into those restraints.
It makes sense, however, I would want more types of restraints, so if one doesn't work, the other does ... the restraints coming over the shoulder I would have expected ... with a Seat belt as last resort.

Fwiw, I inquired with what they use on Coasters at Cedar Point, various Coasters, different restraints according to what the car and track requires ...

NONE of the Coasters at CP use THAT particular system :)
I'm glad to see ...

According to the article, when you see a seat belt on a ride like this, it is basically used as a way of making sure the rider isn't too large/fat to safely ride the ride.

Well, the over the shoulder support is better, but would require reconfiguring the cars.
Jimbo
Heres an article from the Akron Beacon ... seeing Six Flags has bought Cedar Point and Kings Island, they are included ...
I said earlier that Cedar Point doesn't use this type of seat restraint ... well, it does use it, But the difference is, the ones up here ALSO have the Over the shoulder restraint as well ... like I was suggesting that they should have used with the Goliath.

One of the new(er) one at Cedar point the Gate Keeper, uses the Clam shell .. I have rode it many times and have Mostly felt secure, that ride will stop you part way on the ride and you just hang, till the ride is ready to continue ... I typically ride the Front Car ... when its getting ready, you ARE hanging, in the car, looking down .... it would require 2 separate restraint systems to unlock at the same time to possibly get out of it.

A big win for the Patriots, and they are now 3-2.

Browns lose a close one with... The Jets. That is a classic Browns loss (granted, any loss is a classic one it seems). 49'ers, Vikings, and Chiefs remain undefeated. The AFC north have a three way tie at 3-2 for second place.

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Just had a customer come in inquiring about internet. He has HughesNet and had heard good things about mine. He asked if we provided email addresses and it kinda caught me off guard. I said he should be able to keep whatever email he had been using....my sister in law is still using a BellSouth email addy and they haven't been around here for many years. He said he had gotten a letter from HughesNet stating that they had until Nov 16th to save, move, forward, whatever, their Hughesnet emails because they would lose them after that date.

I have never heard of a company simply mass-deleting email accounts (the customer still has his HughesNet service). From what I understand, in the past, the company who was ditching their email service simply sold the customer base to a company like Google.

Anyone else getting this letter. He said he would show it to me tomorrow when I go out there and set up his internet.

Doing a Google of the HughesNet Email notice, it seems that HughesNet has been trying to eliminate hosting emails since 2019. And with HughesNet filing Chapter 11 back in August, it would be a smart move to switch to a more stable Email provider. Even AT&T farmed out their Email to Yahoo! years ago.

SpaceX's Starlink and the Cellular 5G Home Internet solutions have pretty much relegated HughesNet and its high latency, low bandwidth Internet service to History. If Earth had shorter days, maybe a Geostationary Internet Solution might have stood a fighting chance…

Have you tested using external power? Over the years, have found unpowered polarity switching to be unreliable. Especially problematic when used with DiSEqC motors or switch stacking.

No I have not. I just got it the other day and it is connected to six receivers working just fine. What I do is non power mini multi-switches work best with LNBF's and with LNB's
H
It also has a IPS and a OPS switch on the side of it with a power led light showing when is on. It seems to be very nice build switch
