On top of the last one they just had? Sounds like to me You tube TV has turned into streaming cable. No more use to me if they are fighting over locals again. Now if find a way to separate the locals from the rest of the channels and make then an add on , I can see them still being of some use. I still have TABLO for ota recording and don't need locals.

It wasn't just locals it was all Paramount owned channels like Comedy Central, Paramount network and a bunch of others. Plus it was all CBS locals even 3rd party owned locals as the networks negotiate carriage contracts for all locals including 3rd party owned locals with the streaming vMVPD services.

Still fighting over carriage of any channel makes it just like Cable /satellite. That is the reason why people went to streaming in the first place.

People that went over to streaming, using the on demand services, do not have to worry about contract disputes.

Still have CBS, both live and on demand via Paramount+.

When you sub directly to CBS/Paramount+, who would the dispute be with?

3rd party owned local CBS affiliates. I questioned that on the previous page of this thread but people seem to think if those 3rd party locals wouldn't renew they would no longer be CBS affiliates. I am skeptical about that but I don't have a copy of their contract with Paramount+.

Everybody raises prices every year, but Cable/Satellite are raising them a larger amount.

I just looked, the 3 Price increases that Charter and DirecTV had in 2 years (two in 2023, one in 2024) was about $20 total, Comcast same 3 increases in 2 years, was about $25-30 more.

Also with those increases, you are receiving less and less new content.

Who cares about channels, the vast majority of them are nothing but reruns, that same content you could receive for free from the Pluto TV type services.

I get all the vast majority of new content from Traditional TV, plus all the new streaming content, shows and movies, for under $80 a month, that includes Paramount, Peacock, Hulu, Disney, Apple TV, AMC, HBO (MAX), Showtime and Netflix.

You realize that these Pluto's and Fubos and whatnot that people are watching are RE RUNS

Theres a whole tread out here that asks what show pulls you back in, those are Re Runs.

Exactly, yet we continually get told that no one watches (reruns) them.

Where did I post that?

All I said was, those reruns are available for free on the Pluto TV type services, both live and On Demand.

Personally, I want new content, which the streaming services provide, so much of, I cannot catch up.

But the point I was making, that monthly Pay Live TV bill used to include a lot more new content, but Cable Channels that had new content, have either cut way back (FX, AMC) or stopped altogether (USA, TNT).

There are a lot more channels that are nothing but reruns.

Yet that monthly bill keeps going up a lot more than the streaming services.

I also hate paying twice for the same content, for example, why pay for CBS/Paramount Channels on Pay Live TV, when I receive that same content and a lot more, both Live and On Demand, in better Video/Sound quality, on Paramount+.

Well, if your third-party-owned CBS station goes out of business or ends their contract with CBS, then it would no longer be on Paramount+. Of course, it also wouldn't carry CBS content OTA or on MVPDs either. Not saying it couldn't happen, but I suspect another station would step up pretty quickly to fill the void by signing on with CBS as an affiliate.

However, I don't think that is what you mean. I think you mean the local CBS affiliate, such as the one in my market, WNCN (a Nextar station), decides they don't want their channel streamed on Paramount+ unless they get more money, so it gets pulled. I don't know that won't happen, but here is why I think it is unlikely: the streaming rights are held by CBS and not the station as part of the affiliate agreement. So, if WNCN decides it doesn't want their channel streamed, they lose the entire affiliation. No more CBS content for WNCN at that point, period. It isn't even a dispute at that point. It is a take it or leave it situation. Given the only growth (and I use that term loosely) in live audience for local stations is coming from streaming while all other sources are shrinking, I don't think they would risk losing affiliation over it, especially when the viewer data is so much better for streaming. When the agreement comes back up for negotiation, they may try to play hardball, but CBS really holds all the cards.

I also suspect CBS would substitute a national feed in market where that were to happen, given that is what they've done when there were technical issues with a feed in the past. My wife likes to watch Survivor live, and we got the NYC channel one time when WNCN was having problems supplying the feed.

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Just had a customer come in inquiring about internet. He has HughesNet and had heard good things about mine. He asked if we provided email addresses and it kinda caught me off guard. I said he should be able to keep whatever email he had been using....my sister in law is still using a BellSouth email addy and they haven't been around here for many years. He said he had gotten a letter from HughesNet stating that they had until Nov 16th to save, move, forward, whatever, their Hughesnet emails because they would lose them after that date.

I have never heard of a company simply mass-deleting email accounts (the customer still has his HughesNet service). From what I understand, in the past, the company who was ditching their email service simply sold the customer base to a company like Google.

Anyone else getting this letter. He said he would show it to me tomorrow when I go out there and set up his internet.

Doing a Google of the HughesNet Email notice, it seems that HughesNet has been trying to eliminate hosting emails since 2019. And with HughesNet filing Chapter 11 back in August, it would be a smart move to switch to a more stable Email provider. Even AT&T farmed out their Email to Yahoo! years ago.

SpaceX's Starlink and the Cellular 5G Home Internet solutions have pretty much relegated HughesNet and its high latency, low bandwidth Internet service to History. If Earth had shorter days, maybe a Geostationary Internet Solution might have stood a fighting chance…

Well, I helped him set up a gmail acct....I actually wanted to see what the new process is for setting up a gmail acct since it had been years since I set mine up. Anyway, I showed him how to forward the emails he wanted to keep over.

Can't help but wonder if a worker overlooked checking the harness. I rarely ride a roller coaster anymore but when I do I check the harness myself pretty aggressively.
Can't imagine what the son is going through.

Back on the Goliath Roller Coaster ... I'm interested to find more details as well ...
Like where on the track did this happen (somewhere I read that it was on the climb up the top), which is impossible ...

They really need to take that ride and add at the very least, seatbelts ...

The Park is opening back up on Friday, the ride will Not be opening ... personally, I would keep it closed until different type of restraints can be designed and installed (over the winter).

I find it hard to believe that this ride is even allowed to be running with the restraints that exist at the moment, there are other rides that use the same type and they have been shut down across the country.

You got to believe that every ride has at least 2 types of restraint systems in place.

I wonder what and when we will hear from the Manufacturer ... and whatever governing bodies control these ...

Just think, this is a Major Amusement Park .... I would not have any problem getting on the Roller Coasters I have rode ...

Imagine what these County Fairs and others like them, I would not be caught Dead on one of them ... they get put up and tore down every other week, where is the safety for those rides ... No Thank You.

Had no idea there were that many redundancies built into those restraints.

Had no idea there were that many redundancies built into those restraints.
It makes sense, however, I would want more types of restraints, so if one doesn't work, the other does ... the restraints coming over the shoulder I would have expected ... with a Seat belt as last resort.

Fwiw, I inquired with what they use on Coasters at Cedar Point, various Coasters, different restraints according to what the car and track requires ...

NONE of the Coasters at CP use THAT particular system :)
I'm glad to see ...

According to the article, when you see a seat belt on a ride like this, it is basically used as a way of making sure the rider isn't too large/fat to safely ride the ride.

For some reason, the satelliteguys.us site is loading a lot slower than usual on both Chrome on my Asus laptop and Safari on my iPhone.
I'm also seeing longer appearances of the blue bar at the top and the "3 blue bars" loading symbol.
Is anyone else also having the same problem? Thanks in advance.

Scott, I was having major issues getting connected around noon ET. Looks fine now. I captured a Safari session that was showing high CPU utilization in the Rendering of the page, like 90+%. I have a JSON file I created that I could share.

Have you tested using external power? Over the years, have found unpowered polarity switching to be unreliable. Especially problematic when used with DiSEqC motors or switch stacking.
H
No I have not. I just got it the other day and it is connected to six receivers working just fine. What I do is non power mini multi-switches work best with LNBF's and with LNB's

I bought the fixed color version of these bulbs for my store several years ago...work great and no more replacing ballast. Finally had one go out and when I went back to Amazon I saw that now they come in selectable versions so no more guess work as to what color light would do best in a certain area. They are now double OR single ended...used to be strictly one way or the other. If any of you are looking at replacing the old style 4 or 8 ft bulbs, you might want to give these a try. The 8 footers are BRIGHT. I put 5 in my shooting/target shed and you can get a decent tan if you are in there long enough.

When we re-lamped my in-Laws' house for sale last year, we were able to get all the Edison bulbs and a few fixtures with switch-selectable Color Temperature. We tried a few and settled on 3000°K as the best fit for the house. Matching the lighting in all the rooms made for an inviting experience. The Shop was the only place that we went with 4000°K for the LED 4' fixtures.

The house was sold within a month of going on the market, so we must have done something right.

The other advantage is if the new owners decide that they prefer a warmer light, they can unscrew the bulbs (I think it was close to 70 bulbs) and set them to the 2500K/2700K settings.

I'll have to check these out. Thanks!
