Sling TV Launches Industry-First $4.99 Day Pass Redefining How Viewers Watch Live TV
  • New Sling TV passes offer instant, contract-free access to live sports, tv and entertainment for a day, weekend or week
ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Aug. 12, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Sling TV, the most flexible live streaming service, is flipping the script on traditional streaming bundles with the launch of the first of its kind, new $4.99 Day Pass, $9.99 Weekend Pass and $14.99 Week Pass. Sling TV shook up how we watch TV in 2015. Now it's breaking the mold again, just in time for football season with fresh, flexible ways to tune in, giving customers even more control over how they watch television.

Passes are the latest move in Sling's mission to challenge industry norms by creating flexible, fan-first streaming solutions at a time when consumers are demanding more control and less cost. This industry-first product gives viewers instant, 24-hour access to live TV, sports and entertainment without a long-term commitment.

    Sling TV Day Pass
"This launch is about putting control back in the hands of the fans, whether it's tuning in for college football, professional sports, award shows, or a spontaneous movie night, all without having to sign a long-term, binding contract," said Seth Van Sickel, Senior Vice President, Product and Operations, Sling TV. "With college football just around the corner, our new Day Pass offering is all consumers need to win on game day, for just $4.99."

New Offerings: Built for Real-Life Moments
To give football fans the ultimate flexibility, Sling TV has launched its new passes, short-term streaming options built for real-life viewing habits. Whether you're catching a single Saturday or Sunday showdown, settling in for a weekend of back-to-back games, or need a full week of access during playoffs or a school break, these passes make it easy. Get instant access to live football, entertainment, family friendly shows and news—no contracts, no long-term bills, just the action you want, when you want it.

  • Day Pass ($4.99): Instant 24-hour access. Perfect for a big game, an awards show, or an impromptu movie night.
  • Weekend Pass ($9.99): Access from Friday to Sunday. Ideal for a weekend of games, a movie marathon, or catching up on a show.
  • Week Pass ($14.99): 7-day access. Great for a week-long tournament, watching a new series, or keeping the family entertained on break.
Along with the launch of Day Pass, subscribers can also add Sling Extras, add-on channel packages. These add-ons offer a way to customize your channel lineup by category. Current Sling Extra packages include, Sports Extra, News Extra, Entertainment Extra, Hollywood Extra, Lifestyle Extra, Heartland Extra and Kids Extra. Fans can add Sling Extras to their passes for $1 for Day Pass, $2 for Weekend Pass and $3 for Week Pass.

Day Pass, Weekend Pass and Week Pass include live and on-demand access to popular networks on Sling Orange like ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, TNT, A&E, TBS, Disney Channel, Comedy Central, History Channel, CNN and more.

"Built for the way people actually watch TV today, our new passes put viewers in control," said Van Sickel. "For just $4.99, fans can dive into live sports, trending shows, or special events with no strings attached. It's instant access, ultimate flexibility and an unbeatable value."

Great for college football fans who only care about one team that ESPN carries. The weeks they are on OTA or a bye week you can just skip payment. Can bring the bill down to $15-$20 a month. Even less if it is a popular team that is on ABC quite a bit.

Pretty cool!

Interesting how its only Sling Orange that you can get. Yes I know it has ESPN and its "children" only on Orange. And only one stream
Blue has FS1, USA and NFL Net which has sports on it

So, I've recently been checking out the Sling Freestream app and have found quite a bit of 'limited" content such as a watered-down version of Fox News that apparently has its own production separate from the regular channel (and it always seems to be what the app starts you out on.). But have also seen some gems such as The Repair Shop.

Does the paid service require downloading a different app?

As to offering day passes and the like, that would more seem to reflect low subscribership angst

Same app on Android, not sure on Apple.

Sling is the cheapest already, they are just looking to capture the football market for the people who are dropping live TV services. With ESPN and Fox services, it is finally an option for many. At $10 per weekend, you could get those people who want ESPN for the weekends. There are plenty of weekends were the games are bad or they have other plans, so $10 2-3 times a month is cheaper or the same as the ESPN service.

I'm just surprised their contracts let them do this. Everything else has moved to 1 month, pay in advance.

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Just had a customer come in inquiring about internet. He has HughesNet and had heard good things about mine. He asked if we provided email addresses and it kinda caught me off guard. I said he should be able to keep whatever email he had been using....my sister in law is still using a BellSouth email addy and they haven't been around here for many years. He said he had gotten a letter from HughesNet stating that they had until Nov 16th to save, move, forward, whatever, their Hughesnet emails because they would lose them after that date.

I have never heard of a company simply mass-deleting email accounts (the customer still has his HughesNet service). From what I understand, in the past, the company who was ditching their email service simply sold the customer base to a company like Google.

Anyone else getting this letter. He said he would show it to me tomorrow when I go out there and set up his internet.

Doing a Google of the HughesNet Email notice, it seems that HughesNet has been trying to eliminate hosting emails since 2019. And with HughesNet filing Chapter 11 back in August, it would be a smart move to switch to a more stable Email provider. Even AT&T farmed out their Email to Yahoo! years ago.

SpaceX's Starlink and the Cellular 5G Home Internet solutions have pretty much relegated HughesNet and its high latency, low bandwidth Internet service to History. If Earth had shorter days, maybe a Geostationary Internet Solution might have stood a fighting chance…

Well, I helped him set up a gmail acct....I actually wanted to see what the new process is for setting up a gmail acct since it had been years since I set mine up. Anyway, I showed him how to forward the emails he wanted to keep over.

I still have one of those although I've been trying to wean myself off it.

For some reason, the satelliteguys.us site is loading a lot slower than usual on both Chrome on my Asus laptop and Safari on my iPhone.
I'm also seeing longer appearances of the blue bar at the top and the "3 blue bars" loading symbol.
Is anyone else also having the same problem? Thanks in advance.

Yeah. It's probably something going on with the MacBook as my iPhone has been pretty snappy.

I rebooted my MacBook Air and it's zipping right along. Sorry, but it was taking over 20 seconds to load pages, with the pulsing blue bars so it was munching on something.

Can't help but wonder if a worker overlooked checking the harness. I rarely ride a roller coaster anymore but when I do I check the harness myself pretty aggressively.
Can't imagine what the son is going through.

Back on the Goliath Roller Coaster ... I'm interested to find more details as well ...
Like where on the track did this happen (somewhere I read that it was on the climb up the top), which is impossible ...

They really need to take that ride and add at the very least, seatbelts ...

The Park is opening back up on Friday, the ride will Not be opening ... personally, I would keep it closed until different type of restraints can be designed and installed (over the winter).

I find it hard to believe that this ride is even allowed to be running with the restraints that exist at the moment, there are other rides that use the same type and they have been shut down across the country.

You got to believe that every ride has at least 2 types of restraint systems in place.

I wonder what and when we will hear from the Manufacturer ... and whatever governing bodies control these ...

Just think, this is a Major Amusement Park .... I would not have any problem getting on the Roller Coasters I have rode ...

Imagine what these County Fairs and others like them, I would not be caught Dead on one of them ... they get put up and tore down every other week, where is the safety for those rides ... No Thank You.

Had no idea there were that many redundancies built into those restraints.

It makes sense, however, I would want more types of restraints, so if one doesn't work, the other does ... the restraints coming over the shoulder I would have expected ... with a Seat belt as last resort.

Fwiw, I inquired with what they use on Coasters at Cedar Point, various Coasters, different restraints according to what the car and track requires ...

NONE of the Coasters at CP use THAT particular system :)
I'm glad to see ...

with a Seat belt as last resort.
According to the article, when you see a seat belt on a ride like this, it is basically used as a way of making sure the rider isn't too large/fat to safely ride the ride.

I just received 6 receiver 2 port mini Multiswitch and it work great, no external power need it, and you can connect 6 receiver instead of 4 on most Mini Multiswitches... If anyone is interested in where they can get one PM me....

Have you tested using external power? Over the years, have found unpowered polarity switching to be unreliable. Especially problematic when used with DiSEqC motors or switch stacking.
H
No I have not. I just got it the other day and it is connected to six receivers working just fine. What I do is non power mini multi-switches work best with LNBF's and with LNB's
