5G usage of the C-band spectrum is just lame as f**k. There are far more worthless spectrum bands they could have taken away to give to cellular companies than the secret cool band where all the live events got backhauled that only a few technologically inclined individuals were 'in the know' about. Now we lose a fun secret hobby for the elite and get 'skibidi toilet' Internet idiocracy in return.

No, a bunch of worthless normies on AT&T or Verizon uploading dogshit quality stupid aspect ratio 9:16 videos of them doing dumb sh*t out in public to a Chinese psychological warfare platform will never be as cool as getting all the professionally produced live events you could dream of backhauled in Blu-ray or better quality for free via satellite.

I've received zero benefit from this. I have the best wireless provider -- T-Mobile -- which doesn't use the C-band spectrum, and their 5G service works great for me. And at home I have AT&T Fiber, symmetrical 2.5 Gbps. So taking away my ability to get all sorts of cool feeds from around the world just so normiecattle who use inferior mobile providers (AT&T or Verizon) can keep their eyeballs glued to big tech social media psyop platforms at all times at faster speeds when they're grazing in public is an utterly useless prospect to me.

By what metric? I drove from Albuquerque to Las Vegas on Christmas Eve and Verizon had the entire drive covered. I have dual SIM's- one on TMO and the other on VZW. TMO dopped out several times and my Verizon SIM had to kick in. Verizon still reigns supreme in rural areas.

Do I hate Verizon's shady business practices? Yes. Are they still better when it comes to total coverage? Yes.

I have a new Verizon tower I scoped out for Trip of Rabbitears the other day. It's only 1.4 miles as the crow flies from our house. It's not live as of yet, (he suspects it's waiting for fiber to be installed) but once it is, it'll likely solve all our reception issues. Right now, we can only get 1 bar of service for 4g, and rarely get a 5g signal longer than a few minutes here and there. Cell internet for when we have a power outage, is just this side of non existent.

I'm hoping this tower will cure all that.

Tsk Tsk... according to some, you'll just be "normiecattle who use inferior mobile providers (AT&T or Verizon)" because, dontcha know, T-Mobile is the BEST in the MIDWEST!! 😂

In New Mexico there are plenty of areas away from major roads that have zero cell phone coverage because of the mountains. Our previous home had a weak 4G signal from a Verizon tower 15 miles away. Zero signal from any other provider.

I'm still learning and open to new ideas and ways of thinking. What spectrum block do you think would be better suited for sub 6 5G in lieu of c-band?

DoD was limited to only 40 MHz nationwide from what I understand. And DoD can be aggregated with c-band to provide even more capacity. I know 4.9 is also out there, not sure what it's status was during the c-band auction, but the government awarded that to AT&T for FirstNet. So forgetting about 3.45 and 4.9 for a minute, what spectrum block(s) would be more ideal and why?

It's more than that. 5G based connections for home, business and for back up are a thing. I personally do not believe that a FWA connection is a suitable replacement for a high quality cable or fiber connection, but many people do. I host my own VPN and need a real public IP address, so I can't use T-Mobile Home Internet, even if they had coverage where I live. I know about a dozen people that have switched from Spectrum Internet to Verizon 5G Home Internet and are happy to be saving money. Without c-band, this would not be possible. C-band is giving people who never had good quality internet before something that can use, and that is a good thing.

I'm involved in a project that has been put on hold for budget reasons that involves vehicle cameras that are connected to a CradelPoint 5G router with dual WAN failover supporting two cellular connections. T-Mobile reception is very poor, AT&T is LTE only and now with c-band from Verizon reaching out campus, we will be able to make this work with Verizon being WWAN 1 and AT&T being WWAN 2.

Verizon's n77 is the only mid band 5G that is present in my facility, and it is making a huge difference already.

Cellular internet is not just used for phones you know. Whenever I'm not at home and have a laptop with me, I connect to my mobile hotspot on my phones, choosing the provider with the best signal at the time. I could be at a hotel, using my hotspot, connected to my VPN, uploading the photos I took to my NAS back at home.

I've received zero benefit from this. I have the best wireless provider -- T-Mobile -- which doesn't use the C-band spectrum, and their 5G service works great for me. And at home I have AT&T Fiber, symmetrical 2.5 Gbps. You received zero benefit from this because the T-Mobile acquired 2.5 from Sprint (as well as 1.9) and had no real need for c-band. 2.5 GHz n41 is doing all of the heavy lifting. Had the Sprint buyout never happened or was denied by government regulatory agencies, T-Mobile would have been chomping at the bit for c-band. They did participate in the auction and got a very, very small portion of the c-band licenses, so there will be some T-Mobile customers that will be benefiting. US Cellular also participated in the auction and got licenses. I'm not sure if T-Mobile conceded them as part of the buyout or not, but if they didn't T-Mobile customers in the upper mid-west will be benefiting as well.

What you are benefiting from is the demise of OTA analog TV. All of the 600 MHz that was once used for analog TV is the backbone for T-Mobile's LTE and NR networks. A lot of people were upset about analog OTA TV going away. But here you are benefiting from that. You are upset about the slow demise of c-band satellite, but a lot of people are benefiting from that. How is that any different?

I've had T-Mobile since 2018, AT&T (FirstNet account) for exactly a year, and a Verizon work issued phone since 2022, and now a Verizon personal account as of last month. While location dependent, in a lot of testing and comparison between the three, there is no doubt T-Mobile is generally the fastest, usually by large margins, but Verizon and AT&T generally have better coverage especially in rural areas, although T-Mobile has improved a lot. T-Mobile is my primary provider, but they are not the end all, be all. AT&T appears to be best positioned for the future. Between the 600 MHz and DoD they bought from Dish, the ripping and replacing of all of the Nokia gear to convert to Ericsson, 4.9 GHz and ASTS they may have the network to beat. Time will tell.

T-Mobile offers a Starlink connectivity option if you have the extremely unusual use case of wanting cellular connecivity 100% of the time while driving around in the most isolated deserts in North America. I have never had connectivity issues with TMO while driving around the Midwest.
AT&T will be using AST Satellite, which should provide a superior user experience versus T-Mobile/Starlink. I signed up for the T-Satellite beta and never got it to work. The whole thing seemed extremely hokey, half-baked and rushed to the market. The AT&T solution seems to be more well thought out.

I tried posting some pics I took of the tower, but for some reason, this forum turns them ALL sideways! Nothing fixes it in this case. I tried turning them every way, and no matter what, they all post sideways...

I already have the info, but it's not very useful. Here's the link:

It looks like it's just been sitting there completely built for months. IF it's true they are simply waiting on fiber install, they certainly aren't in any hurry.

A big win for the Patriots, and they are now 3-2.

Browns lose a close one with... The Jets. That is a classic Browns loss (granted, any loss is a classic one it seems). 49'ers, Vikings, and Chiefs remain undefeated. The AFC north have a three way tie at 3-2 for second place.

24 team playoff seems to be real close.

Are we really that far from a 64-team tournament?

The benefit of the 24 team playoff:
  • All the cartel teams that cartels want in playoff are in playoff
    • Independent of record too! Bonus.
  • MONEY!!!!! for the cartels.
  • I'm out of ideas.
Cons
  • Regular season really doesn't matter now other than the rivalry games
    • Top cartel teams can lose three games and still make the playoff
  • Going to start resting players?
    • The playoff is going to be *checks notes* several games!
    • Resting players could make games dumb.
    • Maybe even restrict NIL players from games played.
  • How much are streaming sub costs going up a month to pay for this?!

One of the pro's I see is in a year with so many undefeated teams they have a good chance of an opening. Few years back you had lower divisions that didnt get a shot. I love collage football and I have no problem with that addition.

We are in what week 5 now? Been two real good ranked games to watch.....Other than that top 25 teams are playing nothing.

Back on the Goliath Roller Coaster ... I'm interested to find more details as well ...
Like where on the track did this happen (somewhere I read that it was on the climb up the top), which is impossible ...

They really need to take that ride and add at the very least, seatbelts ...

The Park is opening back up on Friday, the ride will Not be opening ... personally, I would keep it closed until different type of restraints can be designed and installed (over the winter).

I find it hard to believe that this ride is even allowed to be running with the restraints that exist at the moment, there are other rides that use the same type and they have been shut down across the country.

You got to believe that every ride has at least 2 types of restraint systems in place.

I wonder what and when we will hear from the Manufacturer ... and whatever governing bodies control these ...

Just think, this is a Major Amusement Park .... I would not have any problem getting on the Roller Coasters I have rode ...

Imagine what these County Fairs and others like them, I would not be caught Dead on one of them ... they get put up and tore down every other week, where is the safety for those rides ... No Thank You.

Had no idea there were that many redundancies built into those restraints.

Had no idea there were that many redundancies built into those restraints.
It makes sense, however, I would want more types of restraints, so if one doesn't work, the other does ... the restraints coming over the shoulder I would have expected ... with a Seat belt as last resort.

Fwiw, I inquired with what they use on Coasters at Cedar Point, various Coasters, different restraints according to what the car and track requires ...

NONE of the Coasters at CP use THAT particular system :)
I'm glad to see ...

According to the article, when you see a seat belt on a ride like this, it is basically used as a way of making sure the rider isn't too large/fat to safely ride the ride.

Well, the over the shoulder support is better, but would require reconfiguring the cars.

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Just had a customer come in inquiring about internet. He has HughesNet and had heard good things about mine. He asked if we provided email addresses and it kinda caught me off guard. I said he should be able to keep whatever email he had been using....my sister in law is still using a BellSouth email addy and they haven't been around here for many years. He said he had gotten a letter from HughesNet stating that they had until Nov 16th to save, move, forward, whatever, their Hughesnet emails because they would lose them after that date.

I have never heard of a company simply mass-deleting email accounts (the customer still has his HughesNet service). From what I understand, in the past, the company who was ditching their email service simply sold the customer base to a company like Google.

Anyone else getting this letter. He said he would show it to me tomorrow when I go out there and set up his internet.

Doing a Google of the HughesNet Email notice, it seems that HughesNet has been trying to eliminate hosting emails since 2019. And with HughesNet filing Chapter 11 back in August, it would be a smart move to switch to a more stable Email provider. Even AT&T farmed out their Email to Yahoo! years ago.

SpaceX's Starlink and the Cellular 5G Home Internet solutions have pretty much relegated HughesNet and its high latency, low bandwidth Internet service to History. If Earth had shorter days, maybe a Geostationary Internet Solution might have stood a fighting chance…

Well, I helped him set up a gmail acct....I actually wanted to see what the new process is for setting up a gmail acct since it had been years since I set mine up. Anyway, I showed him how to forward the emails he wanted to keep over.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Have you tested using external power? Over the years, have found unpowered polarity switching to be unreliable. Especially problematic when used with DiSEqC motors or switch stacking.

No I have not. I just got it the other day and it is connected to six receivers working just fine. What I do is non power mini multi-switches work best with LNBF's and with LNB's

It also has a IPS and a OPS switch on the side of it with a power led light showing when is on. It seems to be very nice build switch
