I'm sure eventually there will be a super bundle or they will go the Disney+-Hulu route where P+ is one price and then HBO Max is an add-on (or something)

And HBO Max to join together with Paramount+. (paywall)

article said:
Paramount Skydance will combine Paramount+ and HBO Max into one streaming service, David Ellison, the company's CEO, said on a Monday call with investors.

"As we said, we do plan to put the two services together, which today gives us a little over 200 million direct-to-consumer subscribers," Ellison said. "We think that really positions us to compete with the leaders in the space."

I started streaming because that is where the content was, specifically content that didn't come with a bunch of franchise fees, equipment fees, and a bunch of expensive sports that I didn't think was worth the cost.

I don't think the Sports is worth the cost, but I still buy the NFL and MLB.

When I say, not worth the cost ... I mean they could cut the cost in half and they would get more people watching.

MLB is actually pretty decent price, for the Out of Market ... the Home team they charge to much.

And with streaming, you get that choice, you also no longer have to pay that RSN fee for sports you do not watch, like the NBA/NHL.

I would assume they you paying for YTTV, MLB and the NFL ST, is still a lot cheaper than DirecTV and MLB/NFL and of course, the RSN fee.

Yep, then Peacock has tons of sports, Netflix, Paramount.....Your not getting away from sports or kids programming. Your only fooling yourself if one believes it....The prices will rise and we will be right back to square one soon enough. And it will be more inconvenient if you have to flip back and forth from programming!

I don't really have a big issue with flipping between apps. Most apps don't have to restart any more when you exit and then relaunch them, so it really doesn't take that long to switch. Plus, the only time when it matters how quickly the flipping happens is when there is a live event on, such as sports, which I tend not to watch live unless I just want something on in the background.

Most of my watching is one show at a time, for 25-60 minutes, and then watching another one. If I have to switch apps in between, no big deal.

What I find irritating is the multiple services sports use to broadcast games. They're not always easy to find, you have to start/cancel subscriptions and/or free trials to see them all.

Its not a Lot different
With D* I paid $150 for MLB EI, same with YTTV might have been $189 actually.
If I bought the Tigers, with D*, that would be the RSN Fee witch is now, latest what $19.99 which is the same as what I had to pay for Detroit Sports Net ...
Drawback is I would typically by the sport for the Season and pay a bit less, they wanted $189 for the whole year (YTTV) ... which included the Red Wings, which I wouldn't pay for anymore.
Thru D* that was all part of the RSN ... ($19.99)

With D*, if I wanted the Local MLB Games, for that $19.99 I got not only the Tigers, but the Reds and the Indians and Red Wings ... for that same price ... With YTTV, if I want the Reds and Indians and Tigers, they are $20 EACH per Month. Or $100 per year each.

So, theres advantages and disadvantages.

I'm still saying it. You don't need everything. Once you understand and accept that, it all changes.

Stop trying to reconstruct your Dish or DirecTV package. Pay for what's worth paying for and move on from the rest.
The prices will rise and we will be right back to square one soon enough.

This has been the claim for a decade now - it hasn't happened yet. I'll worry about it when it gets here and speak with my wallet. It's not hard. The big difference is regardless of my programming options I'm not paying all sorts of extra fees for a middle-man, and with a couple clicks it's all shut off or spun back up as my needs change.

This is why I'll never be back to square one. $37 in fees, before RSN. And I have 4 more rooms with access to all of my programming than the account below:

Nexstar's relationship with CBS brokedown in several markets, so on August 1st:
Albuquerque: CBS is moving to a subchannel of Hearst's KOAT, KRQE/13 is switching to FOX (FOX is currently on Nexstar's KRQE-D2)
Birmingham: CBS is moving to a subchannel of Hearst's WVTM, WIAT/42 is switching to CW (CW is currently on Sinclair's WTTO/21)
Greenville SC: CBS is moving to a subchannel of Hearst's WYFF, WSPA/7 is switching to CW (CW is currently on Nexstar's WYCW/62)
Jackson MS: CBS moving to a subchannel of Hearst's WAPT, WJTV/12 is switching to CW (CW is currently on Nexstar's WJTV-D2/13)
Minot-Bismarck: CBS is moving to a subchannel of Forum's KBMY, KXMB/12 is switching to CW (CW is currently on Nexstar's non-carried KXMB-D2). In other part of market Minot assume CBS moves to Forum's KMCY and KXMC moves to CW
Rapid City: CBS is moving to a subchannel of Forum's KNBN, KCLO/15 is switching to CW (CW is currently on Nexstar's KCLO-D2)

The other 36 Nexstar CBS markets were renewed

Greenville SC: CBS is moving to a subchannel of Hearst's WYFF, WSPA/7 is switching to CW (CW is currently on Nexstar's WYCW/62)

This was reported by "TheDesk.net", but it has not been confirmed that WSPA/7 is switching CW programming to their signal.

A Nexstar spokesperson said that the multi-year agreement with CBS to extend its affiliations in 36 markets was reached this month.

The spokesperson said, "We will be replacing the CBS affiliation with a CW affiliation in at least three markets (Jackson, MS, Bismarck, ND and Rapid City, SD) and promoting FOX to replace CBS as our primary network in Albuquerque, NM. We will be elevating the CW affiliations from the digital subchannels they currently occupy to a premiere slot widely available over-the-air and across all major paid platforms. In addition, we look forward to expanding our local news in Greenville/Spartanburg, Birmingham, and several of these markets with the new scheduling flexibility these transitions will afford."

This implies WSPA is going Independent. If that is the case they very well may lose some carriage completely. YTTV for example doesn't usually carry Independent stations. They dropped WCCB in Charlotte for example when they went Independent.

Just did a rescan with my Zapperbox. Getting four 4.1's all with the same programming. I erased all chanells and still get the same result. All the ATSC are showing different formats, well pairs actually. They are showing to differnt things in the info. Two are showing HDR10 and two are showing AHDR. power is up also on that frequency. Still just using a VHF high antenna even though all are UHF. Getting to be a old man with problems, would be more than willing to pay someone in Upstate SC, to give me a hand raising my two Telves antennas.

Sounds like you're getting the ATSC 1.0 and 3.0 feeds and some of their translators most likely. The new 4.3 isn't active yet to my knowledge. That likely will happen closer to August 1

I'll check it out tomorrow on my end too. I'm in the same boat you are- my antenna setup has had issues since Helene. I'd love to do what you describe- put up two antennas pointed at Charlotte & GSP and mesh them together with a Televes Avant or Smartkom to get all the channels but don't like heights myself.

Couple issues since Hopper 3 H708 update. Sometimes when I select watch to view a recording in my H3+ Plus, the Hopper goes to live TV mode. On second attempt recording playback works OK. Haven't notice that issue in my Joey 4s. Also, my J4s and WJ4s remote control names keep disappearing. Re-entered the remote control names several times but they disappear the next day. No issue with the Hopper 3 Plus remote control names. Anyone else having these issues?

Yes, I've had some issues lately. On many programs I will start out live, then pause for about 15 minutes while I do other things around the house. I will then return to the program by pressing play, then when commercials come on I press the 30 second forward button 6 to 8 times and then return to the program. Last night when I hit play after pausing, the program went into live mode. When I pressed the back button I could see everything that was recorded; however, when I stopped the back button it went back to live TV. I tired several times to no avail.

Loved this episode. Not only had time travel, but they were instrumental in the death of the dinosaur and an explosion that takes out the 5th planet that is now the asteroid belt and lead to the orbit of Mars moving further out away from the sun, sealing its fate as a dead planet in our time. So the Enterprise was always supposed to go back 65 million years. So much for the prime directive in this situation.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Charter-

Video customers decreased by 21,000 in the second quarter and 172,000 for Internet.

The broadband losses are actually quite bad for both Comcast/Charter, since that is the more profitable part of their business.

I wonder how much Starlink is impacting those internet customers, I know the 5G offerings definitely are.

Fiber also, Charter is/was really big here in Florida, Quantum (AT&T) and Frontier(Verizon) moved into their territory, has been really successful in getting customers to switch.
MikeD-C05
Maybe Cable companies should rethink their strategy to attract new customers and to keep them. The old plan of announcing new fees for things you never had before after you subscribe and hiking the price every 6 months to a year is not working. Or they could continue to circle down the drain till they go under. At this point I don't really care as long as there is competition that can provide you with their services at lower prices. :smug

A skinny bundle with minimal fees would probably get them a few more years, but the corporate conglomerates that own the networks won't allow it. They're going to milk every penny out of 3 FXs, 6 MTVs, 7 ESPNs...all playing content available on Pluto.
