Dish 522 Problems...

I recently got the DVR 522 after having used the DVR 501 for 3 years. Although I've only had it for 3 days now, I'm very disappointed with it. The system is extremely slow scrolling thru the Guide or recorded programs lists. Also, I've noticed that at least 7 programs which were scheduled to record failed to do so for no apparent reason?!? This is a problem I never experience in the 501. Last, I noticed last night that it showed I had two programs recording on the unit itself, but the DVR list showed nothing. When the programs finished recording, they never did appear on the recorded program list..

So far I'm very dissatified...is anyone else sharing these same frustrations? Or do I have a deffective unit?

I actually quit service earlier this year...then I had to argue to get them to accept me again as a new customer. Finally, after speaking to the supervisor I was told, "it will be a $25 service activiation fee, and then I would qualify for new customer promotions". Have you tried threatening to quit? If you do, they'll transfer you to their retention dept who I have found will offer you all kinds of things to stay (i.e. months of free service, equipment upgrades, etc)

Things to try(forgive me if these seem obvious to you).

1. Look for obvious wiring problems e.g. loose connections, etc.
2. After the install do you have good signal strength on all the sat. you use?
Is this reflected by good picture quality on both TV's you are feeding with your 522?
3. This may seem very obvious but it took me 4 months to convince my installer that the 522 needs two inputs from the Dish. Sat 1 to feed TV1 and Sat 2 to feed TV 2. You have both feeds installed, correct?
4. Is your current software version L162? If not it might help to do a hard boot to get software upgraded to L162.
5. If all else fails go ahead and do a hard boot. If you are using 110,119 sat's turn to a 110 sat station first such as 185 Hallmark. Hold the power button for 30 seconds then release it. The 522 will power up, program guide and potentially new software will be downloaded.

Thanks for the suggestions...I have tried these and 'yes' I am on L162. Had to recheck hoping I wasn't and this would be my fix. The 501 guide was quite responsive when scrolling thru menus & guides...interesting you don't have any recording problems though. Try recording multiple programs (even two at a time) and see if any are missed...we lost two last nigh (Smallville & the Bachelor - which my wife is furious about). I'm about to post info from a call I just placed to Dish that verified all these problems...

I placed a call with Dish technical support this morning who validated that they have had several complaints with the 522 units. The verified that both of my complaints as being among the bugs they are addressing thru a software upgrade (slow responsiveness & missed recordings). The technician told me that it could be close the June before the upgrade is sent out...but they're working to get the upgrade/fixes out as soon as possible.

In terms of features and usefullness, the 522 is a terrific device: having two tuners in one unit not only saves money (you avoid the $5 charge if you have the phone line plugged in), but it's also very convenient since you can modify timers from both TV's and/or watch DVR programs from both tuners. In practice, this is very handy and quite unique.

However, the bugs are almost a deal-breaker at times. I've experienced a few, from very minor to very major. Here are a few:

MINOR: Ocassionally, the menu system will glitch a little and cause some weird colorations or loss of color while manipulating something in the menu. No immediate cause that I can think of and it doesn't happen when watching Live TV - just in the menu. Another somewhat minor bug is an ocassional audio or video glitch/hiccup when watching a recorded program. It doesn't happen a lot, but seems to happen more when both tuners are busy recording or when watching something from the DVR while recording something else.

MAJOR: I've had a disturbing number of timers fail to record properly or fail to record at all. Sometimes, it's like you said where the red light will come on and show it recording, but nothing shows up in the DVR. Other times, it will show something in the DVR, but when you start the program, it just glitches and goes back to the menu right away - and it may show some odd number of hours recorded which don't match what the timer should have recorded. Either way, it's greatly frustrating that you never know for sure if your program is going to work or not. If these things were worked out, I would truly say the 522 is an awesome unit.

My first 522 didn't have any problems other than it started to freeze the video and Dish replaced it with a new/refurb.

I have noticed on the replacement that sometimes the guide is slow and almost feels hung, then it will take off and scroll after 5-10 seconds. I have not had any DVR events not record though and I have 8 timers set for daily/weekly events.

I did have a problem with having to reset all of my timers after the daylight time change. Everything was 1 hour off.

The Caller ID still isn't fixed with L1.62. It is better, but sometimes it displays the last person that called as the current caller or sometimes not at all when someone calls.

Seems to be a pattern with all of E*'s newer equipment. Shove it out the door and get the money for it. Clean up the mess later.

Can't help but wonder if a worker overlooked checking the harness. I rarely ride a roller coaster anymore but when I do I check the harness myself pretty aggressively.

It makes sense, however, I would want more types of restraints, so if one doesn't work, the other does ... the restraints coming over the shoulder I would have expected ... with a Seat belt as last resort.

Fwiw, I inquired with what they use on Coasters at Cedar Point, various Coasters, different restraints according to what the car and track requires ...

NONE of the Coasters at CP use THAT particular system

According to the article, when you see a seat belt on a ride like this, it is basically used as a way of making sure the rider isn't too large/fat to safely ride the ride.

Heres an article from the Akron Beacon ... seeing Six Flags has bought Cedar Point and Kings Island, they are included ...
I said earlier that Cedar Point doesn't use this type of seat restraint ... well, it does use it, But the difference is, the ones up here ALSO have the Over the shoulder restraint as well ... like I was suggesting that they should have used with the Goliath.

One of the new(er) one at Cedar point the Gate Keeper, uses the Clam shell .. I have rode it many times and have Mostly felt secure, that ride will stop you part way on the ride and you just hang, till the ride is ready to continue ... I typically ride the Front Car ... when its getting ready, you ARE hanging, in the car, looking down .... it would require 2 separate restraint systems to unlock at the same time to possibly get out of it.

What supplements have you found that really helped your overall health

Didn't see a thread like this so I figured why not start one. This is about natural supplements. If you aren't into supplements, fine, but please let those of us who do want to discuss this discuss it.

The first one I wanted to mention has been a real life changer. I'm 62 and still do all of my own install work at my business....also do all the yard work at the house. A few years ago I started noticing that I was losing my range of movement, it was even getting hard to bend over and lace up my boots. Almost got stuck in an attic because I couldn't get turned around once the work was done. Didn't think much of it and figured with age comes stiffness that was only going to get worse as time went on.
It was then that I stumbled across a video which was discussing rotator cuff tears and why they were to prevalent these days. Turns out, the culprit is a simple deficiency in MANGANESE which is key in keeping your tendons flexible. Most anti-biotics strip your body of any manganese it might have had which is why certain anti-biotics, especially those in the Cipro family. I actually knew a man who had two tendons tear while on that stuff.
Went to Amazon and ordered some manganese. Now it took a while, it wasn't instant, but gradually I have regained all of my flexibility. I can bend over and touch my toes while standing with no pain and putting on my boots is no longer a chore.
Pretty cheap too. The bottle I ordered was a 200 ct for under $13. They said to take double the normal dose for the first month because most people are severely lacking, then go to one a day.

Not sure if this would qualify as a supplement but here goes: When I meet someone who is in their 90s and doing very well healthwise I always ask what they attribute their longevity to. Out of all the people I questioned, there was only ONE thing that they ALL did. They all drank some apple cider vinegar daily....usually before bed. You can water it down all you want. Who knows why, but I do it. You want to buy the organic type with the mother.

I've always been super interested in things space related so this is a pretty cool event coming up. Nov 18, 2026 early in the morning, Voyager 1 will reach the distance of one full light day from Earth. Took almost 50 yrs. I was 13 when it launched.

But by law food product packaging must display the actual net weight of the product, i.e., the contents of the container, so by any logic, if not law, a store's stated per-ounce cost should reflect that figure. But since there's not any law regulating shelf statements, a store can say whatever it wants without violating any rules. So I guess the answer is more consumer legislation. Or simply caveat emptor.

But a box can weigh more than an ounce..maybe 2...a can might weigh 5 ounces..a bag...not much

Well, according to the price per ounce on that first bag of coffee he mentions, that would mean the bag weighed over 6 ounces. That bag does NOT weigh 6 ounces. According to Google, an empty bag weighs half an ounce.

I would think that the Vendor/Maker of the product would have a say in it, showing the Correct weight ...
You would think it would be in the contract.

I do look at the ounces of items, but unless its way off, I don't check the math, may have to start now.

Remember when you use to get a 13.5 oz bag of Chips .... Thats a PARTY Size now.

You need to weigh the actual bag...a deli bag weighs less than that but a thick coffee bag is gonna weigh around an ounce...an empty tin can has some weight

Products sold by the ounce, pound, etc, should always be priced for the product only. Only the shipping weight should include the packaging.

Unless the specific product or its packaging is known at the time of weighing, estimating the tare weight for a PoS system is a tall order.

I'm pretty sure that produce bags can't get any thinner.

You certainly don't want to put unbagged produce on a belt, scale, or in a clerk's hands (gloved or not).

The larger discrepancies are likely from a data or sync issue. Digital tags don't cause the error, but they can spread one bad entry across a whole store or region instantly. The small cent differences are probably just rounding in the weight, the price data, or both.

I believe that per federal law the "net weight" of the given commodity, without regard to its packaging or the particular weight of that, must be clearly stated by the producer on the packaging. As in "Net wt. 2 lbs., 7 oz." So now the stores themselves commonly state a $ "per oz." or "per count" figure at the shelf whereas they never used to, supposedly to help people to comparison shop and/or to demonstrate that they are offering good prices. I would make the first assumption that they are simply taking the product label net weight and translating from that, as that would seem both the most logical as well as the easiest. If they're otherwise plopping the product onto a scale to arrive at a stated unit cost, then obviously that adds time & effort.

The ultimate question would be, if they are doing that, what really would it gain them? They'd get to show a very slightly lower unit price, but then presumably the competition between brands would still be even. I don't see how it can really much matter, but on principle there should be rules in this regard.

It's probably just a programming error in the price labeling computer

I buy my coffee beans from a local small batch roaster. The scale they use has a large stainless steel bowl on top. They scoop the beans from large mylar bags containing the roast of your choice. After weighing the coffee the beans are poured into a bag or ground, your choice. I have a grinder and prefer grinding right before I brew.

Weigh at least 4.5 pounds per gallon.
Contain at least 1.6 pounds of total solids per gallon and at least 20% total milk solids.

Products that don't meet those standards must still contain some milkfat and milk solids to be labeled a "frozen dairy treat".

It's simple math. You take the price and divide by the number of ounces and come up with the price per ounce. I find it hard to believe that Walmart's computers can't carry out simple division.

Can you recommend the best to cover all bases. NO BEEPS on certain channels 101w (NEWSMAX ,NEWS NATION), a clock that keeps working STEADY for timed recording ,solid unit with good lifespan. My Amiko died AND my Linkbox has NO Favorites Button and BEEPS on many channels. Picking up 105 west with a NEW SHED IN THE Way with 6 foot Cband ..95 percent quality ...unbelievable.

Have you tried a new power brick on your Amiko? It's slim pickings out there anymore. The FTA market in the US has pretty much been abandoned.

This would likely be your best bet, and Rick is a good seller. I've never had any issues with him:

The EV company to watch out for is SAIC. They seem likely to take over Government Motors at some point.

GM originally struck a JV deal with SAIC to gain access to China. Now SAIC has taken China back with the substantial library of technology GM shared and they're looking to export to Mexico, South America, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.

GM said its next-generation vehicle architecture will provide 40 times more computing power and 30 percent less wiring than before and will expand from the 2028 Cadillac Escalade IQ to its high-volume SUVs, trucks, crossovers, and fourth-generation EVs, which will be powered by lithium manganese-rich (LMR) prismatic batteries

Despite the politicization and perceived consumer pivot away from EVs in America, GM needs to remain globally competitive, so it's doubling down on its fourth generation EVs, with energy-dense, cheaper-to-manufacture LMR batteries, more efficient motors, and state-of-the-art centralized computing architecture. With a stated goal of cutting the traditional four- to five-year concept-to-production time in half, GM is clearly challenging the concept of "China speed," which in the Chinese automotive industry can be as quick as 18 months from design to start of production. In the AI space, GM is smartly collapsing all of its marque-specific apps under the familiar OnStar brand, while providing more features—both on the phone and in the car—than it ever has before.

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Just finished S2. Watching Gary Oldman as deshvilved, dejected MI-6 agent, Jackson Lamb, is one of the best things streaming right now. Already 2 more seasons in the works. HIGHLY recommended. And yes, Mick Jagger sings the theme.

I think this new season is a little too slow of a burn (as of ep #4, probably due to new show runner. However, I can't wait to find out what's up with Taverner!

Well, the season finale went balls to the wall. Non stop action and several twisted twists. Gary Oldman at his best. Very well written and executed. Tavener owes Jackson big time. Only "if" was Jack Lowden's (River) cliffhanger, especially admin-st the buzz that he is the next James Bond in waiting.

Another great season.

Sorry to see Flyte go. I also liked the Coe character. Sooner or later someone is going to take Taverner out. I think I will enjoy that.

I read that Lowden (River) was photographed during production of Season 8. Hopefully he will be back for 7 as well.
