I'd suspect whoever could come up with something like t hat would be extremely rich in an extremely short amount of time... doubt it's possible, but new technology always pushes the limits... Who'd think circular+linear lnbfs would exit or cband+ku ? It's probably just a matter of time...

master, I haven't tried it, but I've given it a lot of thought as well as discussed it (or tried to) in this forum and come to the conclusion that the closest you might get to doing this would be using an ADL Dual C/ku feedhorn with a regular lnb for one and an lnb with dielectric plate for the other lnb. I don't know if it will work, but I don't know why it wouldn't. I've sort of been waiting for this (below), to see how well it works first. Although it has nothing to do with you question?

The new BSC621-2 C/KU LNBF comes with a dielectric plate that turns it into a circular LNB!

Have not tried it yet!

Isolation is the ugly word that is going to come up with any such device.
A dielectric plate device on a C-band feedhorn, LNBF or polarizer is only a poor man's short-cut at achieving slight improvements in circular reception without
the use of a proper true circular feedhorn (such as the ADL CP-300, the former
CP-400 polarizer, or the two port CPOR-100 circular feed).

Look at the specifications for isolation between horizontal and vertical
polarization on a typical linear C-band feedhorn. Your average everyday
inexpensive C-band polarizers are typically 25 to 30 dB between H and V.
Look at a dual port orthomode feedhorn; 35 dB can be had on some models.
Then look at a circular feedhorn such as the ADL units mentioned above,
if you can find documentation, and you will sometimes struggle to get
isolation in the teens (15-17 dB) with an orthomode circular device.

A dielectric plate is lucky to provide isolation in the single digits of dB.

What this means is that unwanted signals from the other polarity may sometimes tend to overwhelm the desired signal. It's a balancing act that is best done with an oversized antenna for the job, unless you have a proper circular feed.

Leave a dielectric plate in the feed and then try looking at a linear C-band signal.
Try one of the transponders on PAS 9 at 58 West that happens to share the exact frequency on H and V, with only a minor difference in symbol rate. This will show you true effects of poor isolation. In many cases you will be lucky to resolve one of the two signals. In some situations, maybe unacceptable on either.

A true circular feedhorn will normally reduce one linear polarity by about 3 dB
(half power), while coming very close to full power on the other linear polarity.

This is all about mathematics, and numbers usually do not lie.
Which is probably the reason why nothing fully acceptable has hit the market
even in this day and age that combines circular and linear, and especially C and
Ku-band, in the same device. Something is always going to have to be compromised, and there will never be a "perfect" feed for all situations.
You have to decide what positive attributes are important, and hope that any negative performance does not overwhelm your desired result.

(Off the soap box)

So PSB, how's that testing going on the Primestar?

And what can you pick up with it? I'd just be interested in this sort of stuff if it worked on that since I have an old Primestar sitting in the basement that and some old Direct TV dishes just waiting to be torn apart to get Primestar working as a KU/Circular (and maybe C Band?) dish

I gave up on the 40" P* dish for C-Band when I got a 6' dish! I get about 99% of the C-band satellites NO PROBLEM now :)

Luckily my DTV stream package doesn't have a rsn fee. Figure DTV that always says is the leader in sports would have come to an agreement by now.

Now in the Hornets and Hurricanes markets we just get the TV promise screen. But Directv still charges sports fee I am assuming.
Greenville-New Bern is $11.99 for MASN (Orioles) and Nationals
Raleigh is $11.99 for MASN and Nationals
Charlotte is $12.99 for BravesVision, MASN, Nationals and Reds

The fee in NC also includes the higher in state rate they have to pay for ACCN. Down in SC the fee is $15.99 as they are also a SEC state.
I'm not sure if they're doing it with those teams, but in some markets they also use the fee to cover the additional cost they have to pay for independents and MyNet stations that picked up full season NHL and NBA rights.

If you go to the TVPromise site, you'll likely be able to get a credit for not getting the Hurricanes and additional Hornets games that air on WITN-D2

Figure DTV that always says is the leader in sports would have come to an agreement by now.
Part of the hold out might be the packaging and price for outer areas like how the Thunder needs sports pack for other states. Hopefully they are also pushing for a guarantee from the teams that they would require whoever wins their local broadcasting rights in 2028 to negotiate with MVPDs. Commercial distribution rights are probably a factor too.

I'm guessing they got a deep discount for the Clippers based on how long it took them to officially announce ClipperVision and their KTLA simulcasts after they were basically handed a multi-year draft death penalty.

The Predators and Pistons channels are using feeds supplied by Scripps Sports

The Heat likely depends on whoever they sign for the Fort Myers DMA, as there's no point in paying a high price for the Heat just for that DMA when WPLG is streaming it for free on their app and website for viewers in the Miami DMA, and they already carry the West Palm Beach station.

Still with Choice package? My stepdad says when the game started he got black screen and something to do with not the right package.
He had the Twins the last 2 years and I saw the Wild screen on 668-1 when I was there a few weeks ago.

There were some technical issues during the pregame, where 668 was showing the Pacers feed instead of the Timberwolves feed until a few minutes before the game.

On the stream API it looks like some areas need the Sports Pack, what's his zip code?

Hmmm, I'm not seeing anything like those events in our Hopper 3 guide for tonight or Saturday.🙁

I went into the Tools menu and requested a Guide Update. I'll try looking at it after the update completes.

edit — I now have the 148-01 4KFox events for Saturday, but not anything for 148-02 or 148-03 which don't even show as available channels. I do have 148-04 4KUSA.

Which is what is interesting, I see the 4KFox channel on 148-01 but we're not subscribed to our Locals. So why it's coming in is puzzling. I thought that maybe it was a perk for Dish subscribers for the MLB Postseason.

I set a Timer for the Indiana - Ohio State game on Saturday. I'll take advantage of it while I can.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Well, the bag can't weigh that much, right? But by law food product packaging must display the actual net weight of the product, i.e., the contents of the container, so by any logic, if not law, a store's stated per-ounce cost should reflect that figure. But since there's not any law regulating shelf statements, a store can say whatever it wants without violating any rules. So I guess the answer is more consumer legislation. Or simply caveat emptor.

Well, according to the price per ounce on that first bag of coffee he mentions, that would mean the bag weighed over 6 ounces. That bag does NOT weigh 6 ounces. According to Google, an empty bag weighs half an ounce.

Products sold by the ounce, pound, etc, should always be priced for the product only. Only the shipping weight should include the packaging.

Unless the specific product or its packaging is known at the time of weighing, estimating the tare weight for a PoS system is a tall order.

I'm pretty sure that produce bags can't get any thinner. ;)

You certainly don't want to put unbagged produce on a belt, scale, or in a clerk's hands (gloved or not).

I would think that all the packaging would already be accounted for ... they weigh the container, subtract that from the scale, then add the product , so its weighing the Product only

You would be thinking wrong when it comes to goods that are sold by weight (meat, produce, nails). Those items typically go on the scale wrapped without an associated tare. The weight only excludes the sticker because it hasn't been printed yet.

Thats ridiculous ....

Thats not how Deli does it, I know your talking pre packaged.
They need to CHANGE that.
Jimbo
A pound of Coffee, does that include the package it's in ?

No, a pound of coffee refers strictly to the net weight of the coffee itself (16 ounces), not including the weight of the bag or packaging. [1, 2]
  • Net Weight: Food and coffee sold by weight are required by law to list the net weight on the label, which measures only the contents inside the package. [1, 2]
    • Packaging Weight: The foil bag, valve, and label add extra weight to the total item when you hold it, meaning the gross weight on a scale will be slightly more than 16 ounces.
    • Watch Out for Bag Sizes: Always check the label carefully, as many specialty roasters now sell 12-ounce (three-quarter pound) bags while keeping the price or visual impression similar to a full pound. [1, 2, 3]
meStevo
The larger discrepancies are likely from a data or sync issue. Digital tags don't cause the error, but they can spread one bad entry across a whole store or region instantly. The small cent differences are probably just rounding in the weight, the price data, or both.

Perhaps only for sliced meat and cheese. Salads and similarly "shifty" or "drippy" items are typically weighed in deli cartons of some sort.

My monster burritos (up to two lbs.) are weighed in their foil jackets or paper mache take-out trays, and the jacket/tray is then "sealed" with the printed label as it comes off the printer.

Precision has to give way to practicality in situations like that.

You mean you were pirating the VCII and entering "Wizard numbers" every month after key change? GI finally resorted to changing out the keys twice as often, then even more often, down to just hours, making it mostly untenable?

When i was a kid, i used to salivate envisioning me having a Cband dish. It wasn't until about 1995, I installed my first Cband dish, and i remember it took me about 2 weeks to get that dish aligned properly.. This was before internet, and i had to call and talk with people on the phone about advice on how to properly tune the dish. I can't remember the receiver, but it had a UHF remote. I had the satellite receiver in the living room, but i ported it to two TV's, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. It was so nice being able to control the receiver with the remote in the bedroom about 40 feet from the living room. I remember watching Rosanne feeds where it would air the entire week in succession. Nice nostalgia.

That is a misnomer. In the old days you subscribed to telephone service. That included the telephone line and one telephone. An extension cost $1 a month extra. So that $14,000 over 42 years was for the service not the leased telephone. There is no way they paid $28 a month for 42 years for a leased telephone.

This piece gets me - the fact that Dish has removed SD channels from satellite completely in the name of "HD upgrades".
