When you go to edit a bin file in Channel Master, and you set up a satellite to use DisEqC 1.2 instead of USALS in the bin file's entry, do you put in the real satellites East/West location or put in the East/West Location in comparison to your zero reference point? I was playing around with a bin file yesterday, and set up everything East of 33 West to DisEqc 1.2 instead of USALS because my motor's USALS only to go 33. For east of there you need to use 1.2. I was seeing tps light up on faraway satellites like 15 and 8 west - but these were data tps, a few scrambled channels, and one channel that looked like Macys channel that's on what is my true south - so I'm guessing instead of using the real 8 west it was moving 8 degrees west of true south or something... or I messed up when editing the bin somehow... so what is it - is CM's DisEqc settings based on real East/West coordinates of the satellite's position like it is with USALS or is it based on adding and subtracting from true south or something else?

satellite positions as stored

I dont use USALS on my Coolsat and when I load the channel list to CM it shows Diseqc 1.2 as 1,2,3,4,5, etc (basically what satellite I did 1.2 first, 2nd, etc). You physically would have to move the dish first before working with it in CM
M
I know that USALS can get me to 33 degrees west. What I've been doing so far is going there via usals, saving that position in 1.2 and then moving east with clicks east in 1.2, hoping to pick up signals, using tp listings on Mike's list and on lyngsat to try to get the right signals, if they exist... I found 30 w pretty easy - it was roughly 7 clicks East from 33. I'm hoping, if I've got this figured out right, that means that 3 degrees further east = about 7 clicks... Is that right, or does the number of clicks not matter so much any more when you are that far out in the arc since everything is on the horizon at a very low angle?

I'm gonna study this all some more over the weekend some more.

I didn't have 15 w in the bin file until I manually entered it in CM... and put 1.2 position in the bin via CM... some stuff, albeit scrambled stuff, showed up - I need to look over that to see if that's really stuff from 15 or somewhere else.... there was definitely a lot of data tps wherever it was that the dish was pointed... thing is since I'm not totally used to using 1.2, and am spoiled by USALS, I have no real clue yet as to what it really is looking at... I though I was getting lucky or something when 8w started picking up stuff, until I saw that it was scanning in Macys.... I manually loaded 30 w in 1.2 in the receiver without using CM, and that still works fine, so Maybe I need to copy that bird in CM and change settings?
M
I cant get past 30W so I don't know on those.

I know on my Pansat 1500, the Diseqc 1.2 settings are a number between 27-49 whereas the Coolsat is what sequence I put them in
gabshere
i was using clicks also but mine was working out to be 10 clicks =2 degrees
but this was closer to the center of arc and would have to recheck everything
to verify actual distance. the main problem i have noticed with trying to find the dish angle (while being offset & skewed by the motor ) this throws me of a few degrees.

and there is also a variable that it might be each receiver moves the motor a little differently , but i have the same motor and the Prime* round dish
M
That would make sense that the P* would be about 10. I'm using a 76 cm... The P* is quite a bit wider than 76 cm, so I guess it should take a few more clicks?

Yes, you are right, the numbers seem to between 27-49 in 1.2... I have 30W saved as 49. I'm fiddling around with the others. I think in CM last night I put 15w as 15 so maybe I need to change that to a number between 27-48? I dunno... Will review what's in the bin tonight to see what the heck I'm actually picking up, because at the moment, I'm really not sure what the heck is going on.

--------------
edit:
Guess, what it really boils down to, once I figure all of this stuff out and get the 1.2 figured out, is when you reach USALS limit on SG2100 and have to resort to 1.2 to go further east/west, what's the real outer limits beyond that? I read somehwere that you have about 15 degrees past that... if that's so I'd should, in theory be able to go from my USALS limit, which is 33w to 18w... 18w is close to 15w, but not quite there...

now whether or not there's really signals that I can read that far out with a 76cm dish is a different question - first thing I need to do is get my head wrapped around getting 1.2 working correctly, then figure out max limit on the hardware in the motor, and then try to find some KU signals out there, if it is possible to go that far out.
-------------------------
Ok, True South from here is IA6... i.e. 93W. Read online that sg2100 goes from 70E to 70W from TS...
so
93-70=23... Does that mean that 23W is the max to the East that I should be able to get this sucker to go?
-----
but reaad somewhere else it's 75 E to 75W so... that'd be 93-75=18W as furtherest East from here??? Gotta check my motors specs since I'm not sure if it's 75 or 70

Now right up front....this is NOT intended to devolve into a "pot is good" vs "pot is bad" thread. The whole point is to make you aware of a potential problem that a person can develop when they start smoking pot at a young age. Not that they WILL, but CAN. Kinda like getting lung cancer from smoking cigs....some do, some don't. The purpose of posting this news story is to keep anyone from paying an outrageous emergency room bill......knowledge is power.
While this may not affect you, you might run into someone who is experiencing these symptoms and can share the info. Fortunately, it looks like stopping smoking is the cure and isn't a permanent condition.

Love this guy's channel. Looks like Walmart has thrown in the towel when it comes to conventional car batteries.

I bought a new AGM battery from Walmart about a year ago, it is already needing replacing. I thought about just buying a regular battery but from what I've read, that might not be a smart move. Might check my Forscan program and see if I can change the battery type from AGM.

When you need a battery, you need a battery.

If you can wait, new technologies are on the not-too-distant horizon.

You're probably doing something wrong if you're only getting a year out of an AGM battery. Heat and infrequent charging both significantly reduce lifetime.

Season 2 order already in hand:

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

I'm sure I will watch at least the first episode but I am not optimistic.
Here i am over a year later and just finished season 1. Not great but not as bad as I was expecting. Did not care for the barefoot captain stuff but overall ok. Actually looking forward to see what they did for season 2.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

There would still be dirt ,dust in the future I am sure. So walking around the station like she did she would get stuff on her feet. I am sure the robot vacuum is still going to miss stuff, with all those different alien species running around there.

I don't know, but I still don't like her walking through the station or the academy with out her shoes. It looks unprofessional and very "hippy like" for someone of her status and I personally don't get off to feet, so there is that. ;)

I set up a music server for my brother a few years ago. It's basically a small headless computer but it needs to have a DHCP IP address reserved for it in the router settings. This was easy to do in his DSL router. He's switching to Starlink now and I was wondering if these setting are easily accessible in the Starlink router. I'm pretty sure he will be getting the latest V5 router.

If you can't get into the router to reserve an IP address just don't use DHCP on the device that needs connected and assign it to a specific IP address in the network settings.

They are not. Your best bet is to set up a third-party router, attached to the Starlink for your server, that you can get into, like a Linksys, etc

The Starlink V5 Install Kit I just got comes with the Mini Router. It is pretty limited in what it can do. For example, it can provide only one IP subnet at a time, no Guest Network, but it does support the pass-thru to a third-party Router. You can also split the Wi-Fi into separate 5 GHz & 2.4 GHz SSIDs to help some IoT devices that don't support 5 GHz bands to work.

The larger Starlink Router that still comes with the V4 Kit does support a Guest Network with separate IPv4 Subnet, but it's $120 from Starlink. And it still won't do DHCP Reservations.
harshness
If you can restrict the DHCP address space to assign addresses to one end of the subnet (i.e. x.x.x.50+), you can manually assign the IP address on pretty much any operating system. This is a default behavior on several popular routers. As the Router Mini only supports 235 devices, I expect that's already done.

Another option is to use a router that supports PoE to power the antenna. This article discusses that option (under PoE Power heading):

Well, the season finale went balls to the wall. Non stop action and several twisted twists. Gary Oldman at his best. Very well written and executed. Tavener owes Jackson big time. Only "if" was Jack Lowden's (River) cliffhanger, especially admin-st the buzz that he is the next James Bond in waiting.

Sorry to see Flyte go. I also liked the Coe character. Sooner or later someone is going to take Taverner out. I think I will enjoy that.

Hear, hear! Flyte was probably the most competent character in the show. We were also sad to see Coe come up short against the Russian operative.

Still some uncertainty about the last five minutes. The line from Lamb about "faking one's death" gives us something to think about until the next season.

Didn't see a thread like this so I figured why not start one. This is about natural supplements. If you aren't into supplements, fine, but please let those of us who do want to discuss this discuss it.

The first one I wanted to mention has been a real life changer. I'm 62 and still do all of my own install work at my business....also do all the yard work at the house. A few years ago I started noticing that I was losing my range of movement, it was even getting hard to bend over and lace up my boots. Almost got stuck in an attic because I couldn't get turned around once the work was done. Didn't think much of it and figured with age comes stiffness that was only going to get worse as time went on.
It was then that I stumbled across a video which was discussing rotator cuff tears and why they were to prevalent these days. Turns out, the culprit is a simple deficiency in MANGANESE which is key in keeping your tendons flexible. Most anti-biotics strip your body of any manganese it might have had which is why certain anti-biotics, especially those in the Cipro family. I actually knew a man who had two tendons tear while on that stuff.
Went to Amazon and ordered some manganese. Now it took a while, it wasn't instant, but gradually I have regained all of my flexibility. I can bend over and touch my toes while standing with no pain and putting on my boots is no longer a chore.
Pretty cheap too. The bottle I ordered was a 200 ct for under $13. They said to take double the normal dose for the first month because most people are severely lacking, then go to one a day.

Chia Seeds
Kinda the whole idea is to mention something and explain WHY it is something we might want to add to our daily routine.
This is what I got from google. Looks like I'm going to be adding them, thanks

Key Health Benefits
    • Digestive Health: One ounce (28 grams) of chia seeds provides nearly 10 grams of fiber, which promotes regular bowel movements, feeds beneficial gut bacteria, and helps prevent constipation. [1, 2]
    • Heart and Cardiovascular Support: Rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA)—an essential plant-based omega-3 fatty acid—chia seeds can help lower blood pressure, reduce triglycerides, and improve cholesterol profiles. [1, 2, 3]
    • Blood Sugar Regulation: The combination of soluble fiber and protein slows down carbohydrate digestion, preventing sharp blood sugar spikes after meals. [1, 2]
    • Weight Management: When soaked in liquid, chia seeds absorb up to 10 to 12 times their weight in water. The resulting gel expands in the stomach, increasing feelings of fullness and curbing appetite. [1, 2, 3]
    • Bone Strength: They contain high levels of calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus, which are vital for maintaining bone density. [1, 2, 3]
    • Antioxidant Protection: Compounds like chlorogenic acid and caffeic acid help fight cellular damage from free radicals and reduce chronic inflammation. [1, 2, 3]

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....
