First Look: DishONLINE

Ok, so this may not be our first look since SatelliteGuys member jbman73175 brought this to our attention last week. However in typical SatelliteGuys style I dug to find out more information on DishONLINE. And I think I hit a goldmine.

If you feel that you must post this information at other forums, PLEASE give credit to SatelliteGuys. Thanks.

And from what I have found, I think DishONLINE sounds very, VERY exciting! Let's just hope Dish Network does not screw it up by charging for access to the service and overcharging for video rentals. I am not going to pay $5 for a movie, when I can get it from Blockbuster for $1.99. If you keep the prices low people will eat up this service. ARE YOU LISTENING DISH NETWORK?

Ok here we go, here is the information I have found.

DishONLINE is currently scheduled to GO LIVE on February 15th, 2007.

It will feature the following:
- SD and HD Quality Movies
- Music
- Adult Programs
- Entertainment News

Some of the content on DishONLINE may be FREE, some things such as movies will be a one time charge, and some options may encoure a monthly charge (one can only hope that Dish will offer programming such as WWE 24/7 and Howard TV)

Payment for services can be done a number of ways...

1 time payments can be done with a ewallet using a credit or debit card
Paypal
By Check
Or billed to your Dish Network Bill (If your credit qualifies)

Certain programs such as International Channels, Adult and Music Services will be streamed in real time.

Other services such as Cinema Now, certain adult services and other programming can be downloaded to your hard drive for later viewing and you can watch them as they are downloading.

If you have rented a title you have up to 7 days to watch it, however once you start watching it you only have 24 hours to view it. (All DVR features except record will work)

If you purchase a movie, you can keep the program on your DVR forever, however you can not transfer these items to your PocketDISH or other means of storage.

I have a good feeling we will see this demoed at CES, and of course SatelliteGuys.US will be there letting you know all about it. I would love to get in on this beta because this product can be so exciting.

Thats it for now, but I will keep digging.

Again this feature could be really exciting, as long as its done correctly and if customers are not gouged by high pricing.

yeah, pretty much this entire thread! There is currently no free content or HD available. At least this is what I have read as I don't have this on any of my 622s. I am officially the last one to receive any software updates.

You're not missing anything with dishonline. I have it on my 722 and when I tried to download a 5 year old movie WHICH they charged me 4.99 for, I got 66 % of the movie with the ending cut off. IT doesn't work worth a sh*t. I won't be using it anyway since they have NO Free content at all and the new selections are old too.

Everytime I attempt to add my account number on DishOnline, it tells me that there is a system time out. It goes to say, I can add it later. I try and still get the same message. Its a bunch of CRAP!

Anybody notice that in message #1 it says DishOnline was supposed to go live last February? It just goes to show what a useless bunch of people are running Dish these days.

Right now I am showing 199 regular movies & 50 adult titles. Older movies are $2.99 newer ones are (2006 & 2007) $4.99. Also my screens have the pictures of the DVD jackets where Scott is showing the Dish logo on a black background.

I do not show HD movies yet.

You can't even trust the cost per ounce info in grocery stores anymore

I'm surprised Walmart hasn't banned this guy from all of their stores. He has been on their CASE the past few months.

When walmart set a price...they weigh the container and the product...the product label only shows the weight of the product...I am sure if you brought your own plastic baggies to bring the product home you could get the cheaper price

Bone-in is a well-known and often prized attribute. Adding the tray and the film isn't right.

Well, the bag can't weigh that much, right? But by law food product packaging must display the actual net weight of the product, i.e., the contents of the container, so by any logic, if not law, a store's stated per-ounce cost should reflect that figure. But since there's not any law regulating shelf statements, a store can say whatever it wants without violating any rules. So I guess the answer is more consumer legislation. Or simply caveat emptor.

Site is slooooow

For some reason, the satelliteguys.us site is loading a lot slower than usual on both Chrome on my Asus laptop and Safari on my iPhone.
I'm also seeing longer appearances of the blue bar at the top and the "3 blue bars" loading symbol.
Is anyone else also having the same problem? Thanks in advance.

Its crazy how the ViP922 is so rare for no reason.

Why are ViP922s So rare? like its crazy how ebay has none, i checked everywhere, also, i got a ViP222k now, which is actually activated!

I think they were more of a transitional receiver bridging the VIPs to the Hopper. They were a PITA to install and were buggy. Personally, I thought at the time that they were the best receiver out there. The versatility of the VIP's with the new Hopper GUI and, by far, the coolest-looking front plate and lighting.

As to the title pf the post, "rare" does not necessarily mean valuable or desirable.

You are thinking of the 921. The 922 was the first DVR with Sling functionality built in (that was eventually disabled along with the Sling Adapter for the 722s and the 1st Hopper because they relied on now-defunct Adobe Flash technology). With the bugginess described by others and the removal of its marquee feature (Sling) the 922 faded into obscurity once the Hopper 2 with built in Sling was released and they finally made the concept into a fully functional product.

I had one, the front panel lighting was cool, the menus were fresh and a lot more modern looking than the ViPs. However, it was very buggy and the Sling functionality just didn't work well - I think it was due to internet speeds at the time. I think I had to pay $40 for the Sling app on my phone iirc.

I had both the 921 and the 922. I used to buy them from DishDepot.com in Florida and trade in my older owned receiver towards the newest receiver. The 921 was a reboot receiver and the sling part was hit or miss. I look back on all those receivers I paid for over 25 years and I think it was just TV. If I had that money back now I would be lot richer. My Owned Hopper 3 is sitting in a drawer in my office not being used.

That was part of the Ergen scheme, to sell the product as well as the service. And who didn't want the best box?

Maybe they went to the hopper because they were running out of 3-digit model #s- 1022 would have been kinda clunky. Folks would have tried to say "one-thousand and twenty two" instead of "ten-twenty-two".

Like some say "two thousand and twenty six".

Dish vs Streaming Apps?

Every time my Dish contract comes up I weigh the options of keeping Dish or switch to streaming. Right now I can watch/record the OTA channels vis my HDHomerun. I also can stream CBS and NBC via the Paramount+ and Peacock apps. What I would need to find is how to watch the Food Network, HGTV, Syfy, USA, Hallmark channels, Great American Family, Lifetime channels plus a few more with an app or two. My current Dish bill is $118, so I should be able to get a few apps for a lot less.

Any suggestions? I would want the best picture quality and audio quality I could get.

Does that raise, or lower, the overall price? Our State Government has been doing everything it can to minimize the impact of the current situation and put a freeze on the State Taxes on fuel sales at the pump. That's why we're still under $4.00/gal. while across the border in Michigan it's much higher.

Now live in the satellite guide:

So even though DAZN keeps touting 'only way to see games' if you are a subscriber to Choice (like my stepdad) if an agreement is reached he can see the Wolfies on 668?
I know the Wild are in dispute and a slate is on 668-1.
